I cannot recommend these guys enough! They are insured (our building required it) organized, and efficient! I contacted several companies for our move. Puma was the most communicative, the fastest to reply to emails and questions, and provided the most information upfront about costs, time frames, qty of movers needed, and day-of communications. Zena handled this and she was a BOSS! The three guys that moved us from a 1 bdr to a 2bdr in Mission Bay were ON POINT! I have used Puma moving twice in the last 3 years for moving an entire household. Anytime you are moving, there are many vendors involved from changing utilities to having repairs/improvements on both ends of the move. Puma moving employees/staff are far and above the best experience of both moves. They were punctual, went "over & above" expectations to ensure that our moving experience was as stress-free as possible and were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They made sure appliances and furniture were where we wanted it and would go to great lengths to make it work even if somewhat inconvenient. They worked within our schedule and any little mishaps were repaired and made right in a timely manner. I have only written 13 yelp reviews, all 5 stars because I don't waste my time writing reviews unless I really appreciate the excellent service/food. But Puma Moving was the opposite and deserves zero stars. I hired Puma because of their good yelp rating and immediate availability as we signed a new lease on the 28th of the month and were looking to move ASAP. They came on Sat to pack everything into boxes and move the boxes/furniture on Sun. Sun morning, I needed some items that they had already packed the day before. While opening a few boxes looking for the items, I quickly realized the packing job, which we paid $1100 for (this is just for the packing for our SF condo, not moving) was a complete disaster and would probably lead to damaging our things if moved. As an example, one of my laptops was haphazardly thrown into a box on top of misc shaped hard items with zero paper packing/bubble wrap. I also have a large bonsai tree in a delicate mud filled glass pot, which they oddly put in a cardboard box, unlabeled! It did not even have an arrow stating to keep upright and the branches were bent to fit in the box! Given how poorly the boxes were packed, we didn't trust the same movers to come back the next day, so made the hard decision to cancel the move. Things started out poorly. They showed up to pack items with just flat boxes and tape, but brought a giant moving truck and were so rude to my door man, that he actually called up complaining about the movers being "very aggravated" as they were trying to park. Puma had asked us to reserve parking for the move day. We live in a high-rise condo/hotel and reserved the loading bay that fits semi-trucks for the move day/Sun. There are many large van sized visitor spots available in my building anytime, but not moving-truck sized spots without reservation, but Puma had scheduled a move for another customer immediately after our packing, so drove a full sized moving truck here. They eventually found street parking and told us we were responsible for any parking tickets they received. I asked if it was an illegal spot to make sure they wouldn't get towed, and the manager Ricardo said it was two metered parking spots, but they didn't bother filling the meters. When I asked him why he didn't fill the meters (which can be paid by credit card) he tried to convince me the parking tickets would be cheaper than paying the meter. Obviously not true, so my wife went out to pay the meters. $8 later, problem solved. They quoted us over email $300-$360 for packing material, which seemed reasonable (it's just my wife and me in a 2bdrm SF condo and they did not pack one of the bdrms). When they finished packing, they charged us $760 for packing material. As I found out later, they did things like pack a rubbermaid storage box into a cardboard box 2x its size and otherwise empty (see pic), so it's not surprising they came out to double the estimated packing material. Also, we have a white cashmere throw on our couch and later found it in one of the boxes, as they had used it to wrap a statue as packing material. Wtf? I also packed a bookshelf of books. When I opened a box of the books, the books (along with my nice book ends) were thrown as if they just swiped their arm across the shelf so that none of the books were stacked in the box but in every direction. They did the same thing with shoes, throwing them randomly jumbled in a box, though they said they would layer the shoes and put packing paper in between the layers, when we asked how they pack shoes. I feel bad giving any business a one star rating, but this was a completely failed job. It was a tough to cancel the move because we didn't want to delay our move past the weekend and have to take time off work. Also, EVERYTHING of ours was packed in boxes that were poorly labeled only with the room (e.g. kitchen, office) or not labeled, so we had to search through a lot of boxes to even find clothes, toiletries, cups, etc. to last us to when we can find another moving company. The only positive thing i can say about them is the manager Ricardo packed carefully, but the other workers clearly were very sloppy. I actually tipped them after the first day since they seemed to work hard, and I was not there for most of the packing, so didn't realize how poor of a job they did until the next day when I opened some of the boxes. Zena, the office manager, who was our main contact, was responsive and professional, and when she saw the way the boxes were packed, said that wasn't the usual way they packed and only charged us for the original packing material quote ($360 vs. $760). She also let us cancel the move without a fight. We still ended up paying the $1100 for packing, but my wife and I spent our Sunday repacking more than half the boxes that they packed so poorly. Money wasted, time wasted, and still no move. Hopefully, our replacement movers do a better job. read more

I worked with Puma on my most recent move and got connected with them through the Handled app. I have only used movers once before and it was great- but these guys were fantastic. It was a short-distance move from a small but very full 1-bedroom apartment on the second floor with a very tight winding staircase, into a 2-bedroom duplex on the first floor [up just a few stairs]. Puma arrived and got straight to work, efficiently and quickly. They were super helpful. There were a few things I didn't have ready for them and I thought I would just have to come back and get them myself another day. Nope- Puma happily helped me get ALL our stuff out that day. They were so friendly and extremely careful with our stuff while still working quickly. I'm super happy and would recommend them to anyone. read more

It has taken me a while to leave a review, because moving after 10 years is pretty tough getting a moment to your self! I recently moved locally from a about a 1050sqft home to a 1700sqft, and I am loving my new space. Puma Moving was the best option for me in price, in responsiveness and in professionalism. Their way of operating was perfect. They arrive on time, take a tour of what needs to be moved and immediately get to work. I had a 4 man team and a huge truck, which was awesome. There were a few items that weren't wrapped or hung up and they took care of it no problem. Not once did I feel iffy or sketch about anything they were doing. They made my move a lot less stressful, as they may know moving can take a lot out of you. I would highly recommend them and honestly you can't beat the pricing! I paid less than $1200, and they arrived at 8:30 & left me at 1:15! That was a steal!! Thank you to all the Guys Jordan, Kyle, David and a name that starts with a B but I can't understand the writing, (apologies) regardless they were all very nice and very hard working. These folks did an amazing job on my most recent move. We were helped out by Dave, Kyle and Irvin and one truck. We had a ton of stuff (way too much stuff honestly) in both large furniture form plus 60 large boxes. A bunch of stairs to deal with at both our old place and the new place. I was impressed- the whole move was over in about 4 hours. There were some things I hadn't managed to pack up in time, but they handed me free boxes and packing material to make sure I included it too. I used puma in January 2021 to move out of a 1 bedroom apartment and put my things in storage. They were on time, worked efficiently, were very careful and diligent, and also helped me take some additional stuff to my mom's house. They were very respectful (for example, they offered to take off their shoes at my mom's place even though I didn't ask them and it was a hassle for them, but they saw me do it and were kind off to do the same). I see they have some low Yelp reviews but my experience with them from the initial call to the final box was nothing but positive. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. This is a sham operation! I booked Puma (which is actually Unpakt, a national company that subcontracts with Puma) to move us from apartment to apartment within San Francisco. We have a 4-month old so we booked the earliest time we could, 8-10am. Two days before we were supposed to move, I received a call from Vena (might not be her real name), to ask if we could move in the afternoon. I told her, "No," because of said 4-month old and that we needed to move between the original timeframe. She said, "ok". Well, at 7am on the day of moving, I received a call from a mover named Nick asking if we were all packed and ready to go. I said yes and confirmed they would be at our apartment between 8 and 10, he hesitated and said, "Uh, that sounds about right. I'll call you when I'm on my way." When I hadn't heard from him by 9:30, I called for an update. No response. When I hadn't heard from him by 10:15, I called Vena at the front office. She said they had a move earlier that morning but it finished by 9:15 so she didn't know where they were. Vena and I went back and forth several times until 11:30 when she said that the mover's truck broke down and that they had to get it towed and then they would come back to the warehouse where they could pick up a new truck. She said they would be at our apartment by 12:30. This was clearly bullshit but it was too late to cancel them so I tried to maintain my cool. When they didn't show up at 12:30, I lost it to which Vena responded that they would forfeit whatever fee unpakt was going to pay them for the move and have unpakt refund us that amount. An Unpakt representative called me around 1:30pm when the movers finally showed up to confirm that they would refund me some amount, they just needed me to respond to my original confirmation email with a detailed story of what happened. I gave Upakt a detailed account of what happened and guess what? No response. They have not refunded me anything. This is a sham operation and you shouldn't trust anything they say. Case and point: when the movers showed up, they confirmed that their truck had not broken down, they'd just been moving other apartments all day. read more

I don't recommend Puma's movers for a number of reasons. I should also mention I have moved four other times in the past six years in this area. I used them based on the reviews here. 1. They overcharged us, both on the hourly rate and on the number of hours worked. We were frazzled from the move so on the day we just paid the invoice. Afterwards we realized there were mistakes and contacted them. They did not respond to us. 2. We requested a full service move. They did not pack things well. Opened bottles were not closed before being chucked into trash bags, delicate items were put on the bottom of large boxes with heavy items on top, and they used excess packing material (that they charged us for) to wrap things like power cords. 3. The driving was extremely poor and they got lost a few times (which is odd in this day and age). We received 19 complaints from our new neighbors because the truck was parked so badly. 4. They were very slow. One mover, Manny, was great. One mover did very little. After everything was moved out to the truck, it took another 30-60 minutes to finish packing up the truck. One person remained in the truck the entire time (which I believe is normal for a 3 person team), but I've never had it take so long to finish securing everything. The move took about three to four hours longer than estimated. 5. The movers asked about how much we would tip and also called us after they left asking when we would tip. 6. They were late. When I called the main office to inquire where they were, I was informed that we were originally booked for a later time, so I couldn't really expect them to get there at the agreed time. Overall they were unprofessional, bad at packing, bad at moving, and terrible at driving. read more

This is for a move completed way back in 2010. I didn't have time to post a review back then, but now do. I also see that per Zena (who I remember speaking to way back) someone posted a false 1 star review for an otherwise good company. That is just wrong. So, hopefully this positive review balances that bad one out. First my move was super stressful because it involved: - at least 3 landings / flights of stairs in a narrow stairway; - bad neighbors who might be so rude as to mess with driveway access; - a stop by a goodwill store on the way to the final destination; - a significant distance (plus the need to pay return mileage); I was not in the best of moods. Does anyone really love moving (versus just already being there)? I recall that the guys did all they could to a) calm me b) help pack what I had earlier thought would be ready for them (but was not!). c) add another guy (I think there was a slight extra charge which upset me but they did point out that since I didn't have everything ready it would take longer than expected etc) d) get me moved in a timely manner Yes, it cost more than I budgeted. But had I been stingy and not allowed the extra worker to join the team, it would have been too dark to be safely moving stuff into a new place (which had lighting issues / needed lamps etc and was not totally familiar to me etc). In the end, I tipped the guys. I was relieved because had it been up to me it would have been a few dollars cheaper but taken much longer (and I had to go to bed early to go to work early the next day). I'm sure that not every move can go perfect (and that few if any do). But I'm grateful that Puma strives to make each move easier for their customers. Thanks Puma. read more

Well, not only did they not show up for a move from one apartment to another, after confirming both the days and times, they didn't return calls (after getting only a voice mail msg). When I finally got thru to them, they offered to find another mover and they did. this other company came THE NEXT DAY and did a good job. BUT I had to take an extra day off work since they bailed on the first round. No compensation, no nothing. I would not recommend them. read more

I've experienced better is exactly how I'd describe this moving company. They didn't do anything wrong per se but definitely weren't as professional as some of the other companies I've used in the Bay area. I called the number which apparently is linked to a cell phone number and between emails, got an agreement for two movers at a rate of $100/hr. I asked for an 11 a.m. start time which they couldn't accommodate and then the day of the move, they called at 11 a.m. and said they'd be in front of my apartment in 15 minutes. I rearranged my day just be at my place by 1 p.m. not 11 a.m. When they arrived, the 3 guys were courteous (I asked for two by the way) and for one bed, one large Rubbermaid container, cabinet and a night stand from downtown San Francisco to Burlingame took about 3 hours to move. Anyone from the area could move all this in the back of their truck and probably do a better job too. They tried getting me to pay for the packaging, the double time? and for 3 guys! Unbelievable. I don't think they honestly tried to rip me off but they seem to be a newer inexperienced company and for any future moves, I'd stick with someone more reputable like Pat Ryan. read more

Want to give an equal picture of this business - giving them a "generous" 2 stars. Had one move, the guys were great. Would have given that experience 5 stars. Had a second experience and the guys were horrible: they left scratches, were slow, and didn't even finish the job after 5 hours (and it was simple apartment to apartment move in the same building). Would have given this move one star. Overall, it averages to 3 stars, but... What knocks this down another star is we called to complain about the second guys, and the lady (I think her name was Zena) that we spoke to 1) was argumentative right off the bat, 2) blatantly lied when she said she insisted to us that we get a 4 person crew (she didn't and didn't believe us... until we showed email proof...and then she changed her argument - see #3), 3) blamed my building's HOA for all of the problems and took zero responsibility for her workers, 4) then pawned it back on us ("we're just a small business, you live in some fancy Hi-Rise building" - I mean seriously, WTF does that have to do with anything... we worked our @sses off to get here and what does that have to do with your company doing a bad move)?? After a few phone calls, she said she'd talk to our HOA and get back to us... but never did. Big surprise. Not. Can't trust this company. They charge 1st class moving fees but provide 3rd class customer service. And poor customer service will lose us as customers every time. read more
