I can see why Macy's are closing in droves. Instead of downsizing they would rather close up whole department stores. Once trip through many of them and you can see why. They don't have enough merchandise to fill the sales floor. I came in here in search of birthday gifts and wasn't very lucky. I gave up on that fairly quickly and decided to just browse what they had. When I say there was a lack of selection they still had items from Christmas on the shelves. Imagine seeing Christmas and Valentine items on shelves well into March. I did a bit more browsing and every single time I passed the fragrance items I was pounced on. I am not one that wants to be approached until I at least looked. What I wanted wasn't correctly put on the shelves. Without any prompting, an employee was right beside me attempting to get me to buy. When I asked the price, which isn't completely marked, I nearly laughed. Then when it did come time to check out here for the few items I did find, there was only one register counter open. With one associate working the counter. There was a line and each of the people in the line had either multiple items or returns to do. It was to the point that I wondered back to the main aisle of the store to scope out if there were any other area open. When I did this, an employee must have been coming back from a break and asked me if I needed anything. She pointed me to the desk behind me and I told here there was a line and I was trying to get out of there. She didn't even head back and take off her coat, she just jumped on the register. Tia was so very kind and patient with me as I inspected the bag, asked if there were any other bags available (wanted to get one for my girlfriend's daughter) and asking her to look up my Macy's card. This review is in regards to the jewelry counter and the perfume counter! Very pleasant trip to Macys. I initially found a ring online and fell in love with it because it was similar to my wedding ring which had to be replaced. I came in to see it in person before ordering online. Before coming I called to make sure the ring was actually available. When I arrived the sales lady greeted me and immediately knew I was who called. She pulled the rings out, allowed me to try them on. She then helped me with my purchase, she also set up sizing for me and gave me the discount which I would be eligible for the following week! I must commend her work ethic and her ability to work her magic to show customers their money matters. I unfortunately cannot recall her name at the moment but I will get her name and update my review when I return to pick up my purchase! She deserves her credit! I also stopped at the fragrance counter looking for a gift for my husband. It was busy but the women helping me were amazing, friendly and knew some good scents to let me try! My husband and I went to Macy's in the Bowie Towne Center to get a perfume I wanted to Valentines Day. We walked over to the fragrance area and see a group of African American women conversing with each other near the Lancôme area. I walked over the the Lancôme displayed and a Hispanic worker came up to us smiling asking if she came help us. I asked to smell the fragrance on the display. She hurried back near the Lancôme counter, sprayed the fragrance on a sample paper and gave it to me. In that moment one of the African American worker pretty much told her she had no business getting anything in the Lancôme area as it was her area and she was only a contractor in a nasty tone. I looked at my husband and told him I love the fragrance but I didn't like how that worker was talking to the contractor so we will buy it elsewhere. It wasn't like the Lancôme sales rep asked to help us as she was in her conversation with 2 other females. I thank the contractor for the sample and told her we will purchase the fragrance at another Macy's as I knew the contractor wouldn't get the sale. We walked around the store looking at other things and headed near the fragrance area to leave the store. The contractor saw us and she came over to apologize for the Lancôme's rudeness. I told her I didn't like the way the Lancôme rep spoke to her and how we're gonna go to another Macys to buy the fragrance. The contractor again apologized and offered me a free sample of the Dolce Gabbana fragrance that just came out. I wished I had gotten the contractors name because she was just being helpful! My mom and I have matching necklaces I purchased years ago from another retailer. My chain broke and I purchased a new chain from Macy's about 1 year ago with the 3-year warranty. The warranty is great. However, the service in the store leaves much to be desired. I waited at the jewelry counter for 12 minutes without a glance or a hello. There were 2 associates behind the counter and 1 customer they were already assisting. I just really would have appreciated a 'hello' or even acknowledgement that I may have to wait a while. I was there to pick up, so it shouldn't have taken and didn't once I finally was helped. The bad part is I walked past several associates and no one said anything on my way in or out. It wasn't until an employee heard me on the phone complaining about the bad service to a friend that she even asked if there was anything I needed assistance with. It was late Sunday night and the store was closing in an hour. Customers were sparse and I sensed the staff was ready to go home for the day. However, I was on a mission to find a brown pair of pants late in the winter season. I approached the sales women at the checkout expecting to be met with a side eye. Instead, the sales associate named Terry came from around the checkout counter and went with me on the floor to find this lost cause. She sifted through the sales racks, the brand names, and every display on the floor and low and behold she found three pairs of the color I wanted. She then politely escorted me to the dressing room to try on the pants and she even checked on me to see how things were going as she was ending her shift. After Terry left, her co-worker Vanessa took over and made sure my purchase was rung up accurately and quickly and even asked if everything was satisfactory to which I responded yes! What a great team Terry and Vanessa are. They are the epitome of outstanding customer service. If you are ever in the Bowie store ask for them by name. You will be happy you did. read more

I try to avoid this store as much as possible. The staff members are either really rude, or really helpful. The problem is that you never know who is going to be what. I walked into this location on monday and heard the cashier being super rude to a customer. He needed help in another department, but she was very clear that she only worked in her section. If he needed help in another department he needed to find the person working in it. I did my shopping and got to the register, and guess who isn't in the department anymore? Same lady that was adamant about not helping someone was no longer in her department. When she got to the register she looked at me without even greeting me, and said "I'm closed", and walked away. All I was buying was 2 pair of jeans. We went over to the next department to get rang up, and the guy over there of course was really nice. Its crazy how night and day the associates can be here. Some of them seem to come to work and do their jobs, and others act like Macy's is some upscale boutique in Paris. My review is mostly for the MAC counter and shoe dept. MAC counter: I've been to several Macy's looking for Selena (Perez) lipstick and they have been sold out. My luck was wearing out, since it was a limited edition. So I was happy that they had a few left. I wanted to do a walk up but was told last appt was at 6. However the MUA told me to wait in the chair. She was nice and said her shift ended at 6 but she didn't want to make me wait any longer since the other MUA girl was running late. I got a mini makeover and loved the products and pick up more MAC stuff. I prefer the MAC counters at JCP or Macys because service is much better and less crowded. So I would have just bought Selena's lipstick but with the good customer service I got, I bought more make up. Shoe department: I always get good service. One occasion I had to make a return and it was a breeze. No problems. If I need help looking for shoes on my size, no problems. Only flaw is long lines to get rung up. Overall, I like this location, it's close to home and I really never experienced any poor service. read more

This location of Macy's had a great selection of items on sale for Black Friday. 20, 40, 50, 75% off items. I was just in town for the holiday, and didn't have enough space in my luggage, so I didn't get as many items as I wanted to. Lots of great clothes with good quality, except for the sweaters improperly hanged, with the hanger poking straight through the sleeves. There were several instances of this all through out. Asides from that, it's still a decent store with fabulous clothes. read more

This Macy's is a little underwhelming. I was super excited to find some cute new spring shoes, but their selection is pretty limited. Additionally, the available cashiers are sparse and they move very slow! I waited in line for 19 minutes but the ladies in front of me only had 4-6 items max. Apparently Gorgeous Prince George's County isn't worthy of an actual indoor mall. (For the record, PG Plaza/Beltway Plaza doesn't count, in my book) Since the closing of Landover Mall years ago, we haven't had an indoor mall. So what this county has a large population of educated and wealthy individuals, so what we have to leave our own county to spend our money, so what Prince George's County is one of the wealthiest black counties in the United States, but I digress. This Macy's is located at Bowie Town Center. I don't frequent this location because it's the only department store in this town center that I visit. For convenience, I go to an actual mall. When I do come to this location, I'm making a quick stop or returning merchandise I've previously purchased in-store or ordered. To be honest, they have most of the same items that are in other Macy's around town. Furniture, kitchen appliances, clothing, shoes, cosmetics, etc. I have been told by staff that certain brand names aren't carried here because they're not popular in the area. When I do come, I'm able to find what I'm looking for. The customer service, the day I came was outstanding. The cashier was very friendly and eager to assist me. I've had my face beaten black and blue from the MAC counter before, I've purchased gifts for my nephews from the young men's section and I've even purchased my parents some luggage from here before. One thing that does annoy me about this particular Macy's, is the lack of cashiers available. I always have to search for an open register. Not sure if they're understaffed or the schedules aren't conducive to the influx of customers in the store. Either way, it's annoying. Oh how I wish for the day where I can go shopping in an actual mall in the county where I live, Gorgeous Prince George's County. I don't always feel like going to Howard, Anne Arundel or Montgomery Counties just to get to a decent mall. Stop pacifying us with outdoor town centers! Now any retail store can be let's just say interesting-you go to Macys in VA and the stores are just different -more selection and the list goes on and on -Macys in a "urban" area well you know they do us different-yup I said it ---But here's why the stars ---It's all for the STAFF...yes .....the pick up desk for packages team, the perfume and cosmetics team, the shoe team and my absolute fav ...the Last Stop Shop team . Many regulars go to this store for package pickup so we're not taken by the porch pirates ‍ and I often run into some of the same faces it's funny how we recognize each other ..,we need to form a shoppers club and probably need an intervention lol --but back to the point -I noticed the pick up desk staff recognizing some of the frequent customers greeting them by name -chatting being funny and caring in particular to our elders ---Community, caring, customer service all in one ---so 5 stars for the Macys staff that know me by face and name when I pick up my sale price shoes and my $11 Karen Fleece tops -I appreciate you :) Macys should hopefully one day read this and give y'all a bonus .....holla at me when the holiday moose popcorn goes on clearance also ...smile read more

This review is for the home section specifically. This is a small Macy's and the home section follows that trend. The selection lacks variety. The availability of duvet fillers is limited and they do not have the display model out that showcases the various types of fills. Additionally, the customer service is extremely lacking. They did manage to have a bed on display with a duvet filler and down alternative pillows. The former item was nowhere to be found. I asked the lady for help, and she did the bare minimum. She found a tag to help me identify the brand only after I told her the item wasn't in the vicinity. In which case, she then walked away. I've read some of the other yelper reviews, and I really don't understand why this Macy's is rated so low. I have gone to a few other Macy's around the DMV and this one is MUCH better than the others that I have seen. My review is solely of my last experience in this Macy's. It is only a 5 star review because of Ghazala, a cashier in the men's department. I wanted to buy a pair of shoes in the shoe department and the associate there, while friendly, just told me they didn't have my size in stock and gave me other stores to go to. Bare minimum. I walked past the men's department to leave the store and myself and my mother decided to ask Ghazala if it was possible to hold shoes at another store before going and she went above and beyond for me. She ordered the shoes for me from her register to be shipped directly to my home instead of just telling me to try a different store and found a discount for me! Shoes wasn't even her department and she was more help than associate who helped me in the shoe department. Ghazala was extremely professional, friendly, respectful, knowledgeable and a great asset to the store. She made my day! Also gave her a good review to corporate. Awesome experience!!! read more

I live in Bowie (less than 15 minutes away from Bowie Town Center), and I would rather drive to Annapolis or Pentagon City for a Macy's. That Macy's is awful. I am always amazed at the sad, sorry attitudes of the Macy's employees in Bowie Town Center. The Bowie Macy's employees will chat with each other without acknowledging the customers (who are literally standing in front of them at the time). And, I find it laughable that all of their employees WHINE at the end of the evening. "I can't wait to get home!" "I'm ready to get out of here!" "That manager must be crazy if she thinks I'm working past my time!" Ugh. I realize that Macy's is a busy store. And, I realize that their employees are exhausted, but someone should tell them that their customers should not have to hear about their misery every time they shop in the store. Customer service is a dying art. I came to exchange a gift and perused a bit before making a decision. I inquired about an Estée Lauder fragrance set and was told that the rep was off today and the other girl was at lunch. Since when do people decline the opportunity for a sale? I felt a bit miffed and kept it moving. By the way, I'm sick of the fragrance girls taking all the damn samples home for themselves and lying to customers that they have NO samples. I've worked retail before and I'm aware of the behind the scenes ongoings. I decided on some earrings and presented the gift receipt. So glad my mom included both receipts because the cashier didn't apply the full credit and Illinois sales tax. I politely explained that it was incorrect and showed her the full receipt. It should've been fairly easy scanning the bar code on either receipt but alas no. After some help from her manager she sorted things out. The odd thing is that she wanted to hurry me along. I wanted the same but with regard as a customer. The store is well lit with plenty of signage but some of the price checkers were inoperable resulting in a cashier performing a price check. The shoe area always seems to need some love as you can guarantee shoes will be strewn about. Periodically they have a really good sale and you can get additional incentives for using your Macy's card. Overall, I'd frequent this establishment but my expectations for stellar service is fragile. read more

Typical Macy's. Did you know that things on sale in the store are not on sale online? They independent of each other, and the best deals are inside! Needed to check out from the junior's dept. Couldnt find an associate- Had to check out in the jewelry counter. They really push that macy's card. and if I was working full time and in the mood to get in some debt it might be good. Looked at some diamonds for $6800, 30% plus 20% off, then if I open a macy's card another 10% and then 15% off for using it. She did the math and it was bananas. Now, this may be a biased review. I used to work for Foley's, a sister store of Hecht's, in Texas for 7 years. These stores were under the May Company before Macy's bought out many stores. Generally, I never really shopped at Macy's. To me, I felt that Macy's just didn't have anything appealing to me. I'd rather shop at Foley's, Dillard's or even Belk. Well, what do you know, Macy's bought out a lot of the May Co. stores (Foley's, Hecht's and a few others in other states). I think they didn't buy out Lord & Taylor (another May Co. store) because there's still one at Landmark Mall. At first, I was relieved because it was just Hecht's that had changed their name. But, I just recently discovered that Foley's also had their name changed. Drats! Anyways, this particular location was no different. I went there and shopped around. I found nothing appealing!!! Sure, they have all these premier brand names. But still! Nothing that caught my eye. Their sportswear selection is just really really sad. Ugh! Change it back to Hecht's. Hecht's definitely knew which clothing customers wanted. Yep. May Co. does it better! Other than that, it's just a nice store with some nice decor and friendly staff. read more

Rude! Rude! Rude! Good Deals! Rude! That is always my experience at this place. I only go to this location when I need something in a hurry. In order to get a good experience from this store, I have a few suggestions: 1. Know what you want when you go in there and study the map at the entrance to help you get there. This will cut down on you annoying the people that work there and you wont have to watch them roll their eyes as they "help" you find your way. 2. If you need shoes, go to another place. They have a tendency to run out of salesmen, run out of sizes, and give people two left shoes (it has happened twice... thank goodness I caught them the second time) 3. Bring earplugs. They are bound to talk about you loudly after you take two steps away. The salespeople also tend to over-share amongst themselves loudly as well. Maybe I'm a little uppity? But I mean dang! This is the worst Macy's experience ever. Even the MAC counter is chaotic. After waiting to ask a person at the counter about the "create your palette" deal, she looked at me and told me there was a line if I needed help. Every time I go I have to take a personal moment and not flip shit over because of some rude person who seems bothered by my questions. That is what they are there for, right? My favorite part about this place tho, is the perfume area. The women there are a little older but they are so happy to help and they seem to know their stuff. During my first visit, I asked the lady at the counter what she can suggest as a shade of nude lipstick would be good for my skin tone. She answers that it's not about what she thinks is best, it's what I think is best. She goes on to say that she's tired of customers making her choose make up for them and always asking her for suggestions. I KID YOU NOT. She says people need to learn to choose their own shade of make up. Umm, isn't that what your job is? To help us find make up that will be good for us? I left. No point in arguing with a person like this. The second time I went was after a few days. I know, why return after that horrible experience? Well, this Macy's is only a few minutes from where I live. So this second time, two ladies at the counter come up to me to say they will be help me shortly. There wasn't anyone else around as this was close to opening time. They went to chat about the one girl's man problems while I stood there waiting. I again left. I went to the MAC counter the next time at the Bloomingdale's in Tyson's Corner. My goodness what a difference in service. There were so many people, but the lady at the counter expertly attended to all of us. She asked me what shade I was thinking of getting, if I was going to wear it at night or day, if I wanted a sheer or matte finish, etc. She then proceeded to give me four different options to try on and helped me choose. Sometimes laziness trumps good common sense. I went into MAC on New Years Day to exchange a concealer which was too dark for a highlighter. There were few customers scampering around tightly reaching over each over each over. In fact, there was a 1:1 ratio of employees to customers when I arrived. The employees there still made it there business to ignore me. When I did get their attention, like a DC ticket writer, they looked like I was bothering them. Their answers were sure to be short and curt. I wouldn't recommend Bowie to anyone. Next time, I'm going to Union Station. read more
