Service and selection makes Macy's a hit. No only do they incredible merchandisebut the specials and markdowns are unbelievable

RACIST EXPERIENCE - Dior at Macy's Downtown Chicago December 23, 2025 | around 6:00 PM This was one of the most racist and humiliating retail experiences I have ever had. On December 23, 2025 around 6 PM, I visited the Dior counter at Macy's downtown Chicago. I traveled from Virginia specifically to shop at this location and went alone to buy a Christmas gift for my sister. I politely asked for recommendations about Dior liquid foundation, highlighter, and gift sets. The older sales associate treated me with clear disrespect from the start. She avoided eye contact, made me wait about five minutes just to answer a simple question, and refused to clearly explain products or prices. Her attitude made it obvious that she did not want to help me. Because of this, I decided to leave and go to Chanel. What happened next crossed the line completely. The same sales associate followed me and said there was someone named Karina in the back corner who "speaks Asian language." This comment was openly racist. She never asked if I needed language assistance, never asked where I am from, and instead assumed I could not speak English based solely on my Asian appearance. I am a college student, and I speak English fluently. There is no such thing as "Asian language." Asia is a continent with many cultures and languages. Reducing all Asians to one language is ignorant, offensive, and racist. This was not a misunderstanding. This was racial profiling. I felt judged, insulted, and humiliated in a public space. No customer--especially in a so-called luxury brand like Dior--should ever be treated this way. The fact that someone with this mindset is working in customer service is unacceptable. Dior and Macy's should be ashamed to allow this behavior. This employee clearly lacks basic cultural awareness, professionalism, and respect. Immediate disciplinary action and mandatory diversity training are necessary. I will never return to this Dior counter, and I strongly warn others--especially people of color--to be cautious. Racism should never be tolerated, especially in 2025. read more

My son purchased me a $100 gift card for my birthday. I did not use the card until I accumulated enough to buy a large item. Went to use it and it was already used. I called corporate and was told that the same person, from a different state, was known by them because of the same complaint, was using these cards over the phone. He was ordering items and having them shipped out of state. I was told that I was getting a replacement card but that never happened. read more

I have not visited the Macy's at River Oaks Mall for some time but I was in the area and decided to see whether they stocked the item that I was looking for - which was a somewhat obscure part of the Clinique makeup, body and fragrance line, an antiperspirant. As it turned out they did not have it in stock, which was okay. It may be found online through the Macy's webpage. The salesperson running Clinique sales area today was great, very helpful. I got out of the habit of shopping at this store due to some years' worth of highway construction that prevented me from going into the Lansing-Calumet City area easily. Today, a mid-week visit to River Oaks Mall worked out fine. I was at the Macy's store in the early afternoon hours today. While I was at the store I visited all departments at was always greeted and asked whether I needed assistance. This was certainly true in the fragrance/makeup/body lotions, etc. area. The State Street Macy's is in the process of incorporating outside businesses; in the case of the River Oaks store they will be incorporating Finish Line and Toys-R-Us in the future. This is being prepared but these two departments are not open as of 8-3-2022. This was a good visit. Had I been able to find my Clinique item I would have given the store five stars, but that is okay. read more

I recently went to Macy's in River Oaks Mall to purchase some perfume. I headed right for the Chanel counter where I was greeted by a pleasant gentleman. I knew exactly what I wanted. He got my items together then called a young lady over to cash me out. The entire time that I was there they were both smiling and engaging. They tried to get me to sign up for a credit card...no thanks and oddly enough I sensed a slight change in attitude. I got by bag looked inside and saw there were no samples. At this point another young lady came up and she and cashier were talking. I said excuse me may I have some samples? She made a comment low key and then was like I don't think I have any. Now it's a few weeks before the holiday, everybody and their mama who works in the fragrance section is bombarding you with samples and sprays of their fragrance yet miraculously the Chanel counter is the only one without any...go figure. It just solidified my decision to not return to that location. I generally go out of my way and go to other Macy Locations but on this day it was a matter of convenience. I never have a problem receiving plenty of samples but especially when I make a purchase..and let's be real Chanel is not cheap. Its a lesson learned. My money spends everywhere, I want to spend mine where I'm valued as a customer ( yes even when it comes to the little things) especially after spending 400 bucks! Make it make sense. So,a week ago, I was at Macy's in Orland Park. It was a nightmare. So I tried the River Oaks store... Nightmare #2! No help, escalator broken at this location, too. I was ONLY in these stores because I had customer coupons that could not be used online and that will expire in a week! I will NEVER shop in a Macy's store again. Online OK. Horrible customer service at the Clinique Counter. Went in to get face wash. A short lady with long blond braids was very unprofessional and rude. I asked her a question about the pricing and she told me in so many words that something was wrong with me and not the pricing. I told the manager about my experience and I was told that it will be addressed. I was given a perfume sample for my inconvenience. I didn't want a perfume sample. I just want her to correct the problem. read more

Standing in line 1/2 now. Only 2 cashiers in lower level during Xmas season. They cashiers moving slow with no urgency. Not sure if they don't care or because they are just elderly and movw slow. They should've known better to have it like this. It's not even crowded. Same 5 people in line for last 20 to 30 minutes. So ridiculous. read more

Hello! I am a long-term standing card holder with Macy's. I requested a price adjustment on order 2024486835 via incident 200610-007701. I never received a reply nor the credit. Shortly after my message, the item was dropped even lower to $77.93. In today's live chat session (chat id though: 6047721) and follow up regarding this issue; I was told "my follow up was too late to receive an adjustment and I should have followed up a week after my email." This failure is on Macy's, not the customer. Please advise. read more

Macy's Far Vault was great with my mom and I as we shopped for her first mint jacket and headband over a two day period. All the sales reps were helpful getting the coat to my mom by the date she needed it, proving us with information about pricing, and the overall order. I'm not a fur/mink person, but I would highly recommend this location for your desires in this area. Skip "The Look"... it's not worth it at all. read more

Went to the juniors section and selected a pair of black pants from a rack that advertised 25% off the original price. Their were multiple sizes available on the rack from this particular brand. The cashier informed us that the pants were apparently on the wrong rack and that we would not receive the 25% discount. I informed her that we would not purchase the pants without the discount. She ended the conversation there. Lost sale. We went to JC Penny's and, ironically, experienced the exact same issue except this cashier walked with me to the juniors section to investigate my claims and made the sale. read more

I was hired by Macy's, told that training was paid, so I completed 9 hours of training and now they don't want to pay me. From what I was told by HR is that if you don't remain an employee after training, then you don't receive the pay. Shame on Macy's for stealing9 hours of my time and because I decided not to stay on board, they decided not to pay me the paid training. read more

I really try not to come here. I wish I didn't have to because it's the nearest Macy's to my house. First, they're not understaffed, they just aren't around to help anyone. It's literally like your playing hide and seek with the employees. My goodness is this place unorganized. Almost everything is out of place or out of line. It's hard to shop when everything is mixed up. There are so many empty areas in the store! It's like management likes the look of bald spot on the sales floor. It's just horrible. Lastly, I really don't like how the jewelry and perfume area is set up like a flea market. No, I don't want to hear what each sales persons taste in music is at each station. They should leave their radios at home and at they're other jobs. read more

Probably the worst Macy's around. Horribly staffed (unkempt, unprofessional, disengaged), horribly stocked unless you are morbidly obese and / or tacky, and disorganized and messy. The music was far too loud and clashing between departments. Quite literally there was nothing positive about this store. read more

Purchased a ring for my wife and had it sent for sizing. It came back the wrong size so now another 3 week wait and missed anniversary. Have been in the store 30 plus minutes to be waited on, only 1 person working, which is always the case. Never any help. So if you want a long wait to spend your money shop here. I love clothes and this store has plenty of nice clothing and footwear but this place is too expensive and I just cant do it. If you have money to spare this is your spot. I only go here to browse but could do without the fragrance saleswomen bombarding me with every cologne possible. I think I still have cancer from the last time I went. read more

Do not order from Macy's online to pick up in store. They do not have the items in stock when they claim to have it. I wasted my time. If they cannot fulfill orders now they surely will not fulfill at Christmas. read more

Sometimes I get stuck going to this location if I'm not in the mood to go downtown. I do not advise you to go shopping for clothes here if you are looking for something other than Baby Phat, Rocawear, and Apple Bottoms. I could not find any good brand name clothes here, no Guess, no athletic dept, and it's messy as hell for a Macy's. The employees are less than willing to help you..if you can even find one. The girls at the MAC counter, I really don't think are trained to know anything about makeup..the girls at the State St location were so much more knowledgeable. I always knew that Macy's customer service wasn't the best...but this location takes the cake in crappy customer service and selection. read more

I came to this store because it was on the way during my drive back home after visiting friends several hours away. I had purchased a BUNCH of stuff online and was having buyer's regret. But, apparently, Macy's has a horrible policy where all returns are factored into a store's profitability even if the original purchases came from a different store or online. This is not the most popular Macy's store. In fact, there were so few customers, it almost looked depressing. I am pretty sure their monthly sales are not great. The clerk/manager that helped me looked at my huge pile of returns and was immediately crestfallen. Despite my single-handedly ruining (what seemed like) the store's entire month of sales, she had a great attitude and was very professional. I felt incredibly guilty after I learned about the weird policy, but she kept telling me to stop worrying about it. Also, there is TONS of parking here! If you need to go to a Macy's, have a car, and don't want to deal with the Michigan Ave. crowds, I would definitely recommend going to Calumet! read more

What a shame! This store used to be a gem. Went to pick up an online purchase. Heavy and no cart or help to the car. Attitude...really??? Please put a sign up whites not welcome...ok by me. I came to the to look for maternity clothes. The sales lady was so rule. She made me feel like I more so fat than pregnant. The young lady just wasn't helpful at all. Then I found another sales lady. She was really nice she made me feel really comfortable to be shopping for maternity clothes. read more

I was in Macy's in River Oaks mall last night in the fragrance department and my experience was horrible. I was looking at perfume and was completely ignored by an elderly female employee with some type of big eared decorations on her head. I honestly felt discriminated against because I'm black and she was white. As I was looking at the coach perfumed, she walked right past me not, saying anything to me. Instead a vendor came and did her job and ended up getting her anyway and when she was forced to help,she was reluctant and she had a very bad attitude. If someone's job is in customer service, service ALL customers or find another one. She was horrible. read more

I purchased a Calvin Klein beaded gown from Macy's online for my 60th birthday party and upon arrival some beads were missing on the back of the dress. I received a 2nd dress from Macy's and the dress was worst than the first. The beads were missing in a larger number and the gown was balled up and placed in a plastic bag. It arrived with the hangar sticking out of the bag. Macy's customer service is poor as well as it's merchandise. I will forward the pictures to Calvin Klein. read more

Macys is one of my favorite stores. They always carry the latest fashions and different designers. I suggest this store to everyone!

Horrible service, they act like they're doing you a favor, the only good part is the fragrance vendors, I recommend Debbie with Polo or Velma with Dolce and gabbana beautiful ladies and the have high customer service experience, always smile and go beyond expectations, other than that they're unprofessional the manager I seen there was so out of place and she was supposed to be the cosmetics department manager, rude getting her makeup done at one of the counters it's a joke! read more

For many years I have shopped at Macy's in River Oaks, Calumet City, IL. Since Dec. 2013. I have found the sales staff to be incompetent and the store manager to be unresponsive. In December a call regarding a rude employee was never returned. In April 2014 I bought and paid for a Ninja blender to be sent to my son in Atlanta, Ga. He was sent a toaster oven. The resolution at an Atlanta Macy's was at best a major inconvenience. In May 2014 I bought and paid for undergarments to be shipped to my sister in Chicago. It's been over three weeks and the package still hasn't been delivered. The store manager failed to respond to three call from me when the package wasn't delivered in two weeks. After two and a half weeks my daughter went to the store to see the store manager who wouldn't make herself available to talk to her. Her response to my daughter, through a sales associate, was to call shipping when they open. I feel the people who take my money should return my calls and resolve my issues without creating a job for me. It's sad if this is who Macy's in River Oaks is going to be. I should get a high level of service at any Macy's I patronize. I think Macy's should fix the River Oaks store or close it. read more
