Whole womens department is a mess. Upstairs it's impossible to shop clothes falling of hangers dressing rooms full of clothes racks and racks of clothes need to be put back. Staff is busy putting clothes away rather then trying to complete sales. I had to go to men's in order to make my purchase. I literally had to straighten the wall of dresses in order for me shop. I was praying a hanger didn't pop off the wall and hit me in the face due the racks being full. If I had more time to go to a different store for a formal dress I would have. read more

I have never encountered a worse automated phone system than I have been presented with than this store. Transferred 5 different times due to employees not answering in their department, rude operators, and when the call does get through, the teller claims the system had just gone down and she'd not be able to assist. I am a frequent shopper, both in store, and on-line. This review deals with my experience shopping on-line. I ordered several items on 11/23. On 11/24, the items went on sale for "Black Friday". I emailed the customer service department to ask for a price adjustment. No response. I emailed again 2 more times over the next two days. No response. I called. Waited 28 minutes. Spoke to a very kind agent. He assured me he would give me the sale price, plus another 20 percent off for my trouble. GREAT! Said I would receive an email stating these new prices and $102 would be credited on my Master card. All detailed in the email I would receive. Next day my credit card company calls. My card is frozen for potential fraud. Macy's put a $367 hold on my account the day I first ordered, and another $310 hold on my account the day I spoke with the agent at Macy's. So, I called Macy's. Again. Waited 18 min. Transferred twice after explaining. They accidentally put extra holds on my card. They will take it off ASAP. Should take a day. Next day Master Card called. Card is frozen. Not taken off. I can't use my card untill $670 hold is removed for a $169 purchase. Yes, they held FIVE times the amount I was paying. I emailed, I called...every day. Today is December 5th. Hold is still on my credit card. There is nothing I can do. And still no own has replied to me on my attempts to communicate on email. Must be 8 tries. I have to continue calling THEM, with their long wait times. I have to use cash for everything now. I can't buy presents without my credit card. I wasn't able to book a hotel for my son's 2 day doctor appointment. Big inconvenience. And no one form Macy's has replied, or seems to care. read more

Macy's is sadly not enforcing use of masks even though they have a sign on the door requiring masks. I asked the woman at check out and she said if I see someone I'll say something, but 2 women without masks with several of their kids were right in front of her, I said I am leaving because this is not safe and left all my items at the counter! The store was an absolute mess Clothes thrown all over the place and on the ground and was completely understaffed for the holiday shopping season. I'm not sure if it's Macy's managements fault for not having enough sales clerks or the shoppers that were there that are just savages throwing everything on the ground Either way the store sucks. It's even worse than the Watertower Place Macy's which is another junky looking store. At least the State Street store is a little better to shop at but Macy's has never ever been as good as Marshall Fields. Another store I hit up as I was wandering. The men's department is basically a mess. The racks are stuffed, aisles are narrow but the bargains are there if your willing to search. I found a few items at good prices. I did score on Nike sweats, regular $45 after all discounts $10. Wish they had more of my size but its all good. Decent store, friendly staff. read more

Today is the Day after Christmas and the customer service was awful!! I found a beautiful City Chic Plus Size Exposed Zipper Pencil Skirt that I absolutely loved. When I took it to the cashier to purchase, she noted me that there was no price tag on the skirt. I told her that I really wanted the skirt and asked her to look it up and was told that she could not sell it to me without a tag. Soo, I couldn't purchase it. I was crushed!! I asked to speak to a manager and a lady that I assumed was the manager came over and informed me that City Chic is not a common brand that they carried at the Orland Store. She went away and came back in about 5 minutes to inform me that she could not sell the skirt to me because she could not locate a similar item. I later found out that she was not the manager but some sort of team leader ?? To make a long story short, I went home crushed and without the skirt. At home, I looked on line and what do you think that I found?? The skirt !! I was made to feel like an idiot and like I was inconveniencing the salespeople while at Macy's!! I definitely will not return to that location. I think I will stick to ordering online!! P.S. I did not notice until I got home that the security monitors were left on the two items that I did purchase. Never shopping at this Macys again!! OK, I will admit it. When it was still Marshall Field's, I was in there only once, and that was for my cousin's bridal shower gift. But after getting a bunch of gift cards for Macy's for Christmas, I gave it a shot. And wow, I really am now realizing that I am missing something by doing the bulk of my shopping at Wal-Mart. (Not that I can afford to shop Macy's all the time.) I went here specifically to get my makeup done (make-up rookie here) and approached the Clinique counter and was warmly greeted and was helped with all my questions and given a fabulous makeover. I also checked out the rest of the store, and like I said earlier, was totally amazed. The store was neat, and in every department I was greeted by helpful salespeople. I was in the mood to do some shopping and wanted to find an anti aging eye cream at Clinique so I stopped here. The saleswoman was so helpful and let me sample some of the eye cream before purchasing. She was very down to earth and not condescending like a lot of salespeople can be. She was very realistic as to what to expect, even though she stated that she made commission and was not just trying to make a sale. She also gave me a sample to try and needless to say I as not happy with the product but will definitely go back to this salesperson if I want to ever purchase from this makeup line again. read more

Worst customer service on 2nd level. First of all, only one dressing room open. Understandable, but still annoying. We waited in line for over an hour, waiting for like 20-30 minutes for multiple people in front of us to try their stuff on. We finally get in, are literally 2 dresses in, and get a knock on the door saying we have 5 minutes left...we werent even in there for 5 minutes. No one else in front of us had a time limit, so why did we? We definitely went quicker than anyone else in front of us did too...wtf? SECOND AND THE WORST: an old lady passed out in line while we were in the back of the line and thankfully there was a nurse in line to help her, but the employees REFUSED to call 911. One retiree cop in line took it upon himself to get her medical help and call since the ladies working just stood there and watched her. How is that ok?? Does Macys train their employees that way? The nice man who called stopped one of the cops when they finally came and told him they refused and the cop wasnt happy either. Such a shame. read more

We had a great experience at the Orland Park Macy's on Sunday July 31st. While shopping in the men's department we were assisted by a young lady named Aritina. Not only did she offer professional assistance and advice, she contacted another local Macy's location (while staying on hold for 15 minutes) in order to arrange for us to pick up additional merchandise later that same afternoon. All this, while balancing additional customers with questions, transferring other calls and displaying a smile and a very friendly and professional attitude to everyone she dealt with. So freaking dumb! Bought a mother's day gift, 14K gold plated bracelet for $800. The salesperson is a f ing a hole that said that its 14K gold and its a perfect gift. 8 months later it broke and I found out from looking at the inside, ITS PLASTIC. I am very disappointed when I done the math and I relized that I payed $800 for a piece of plastic that is paint fake gold, that cost a full $0.31 with 90% of this is the magnet!!! They lost at least $200 from us today due to the temperature of the building. It was 86 degrees according to in-store thermometers and my phone. We had a bunch of items picked out and it got to the point where we had to leave because it was getting hard to breathe. I feel bad for the employees, but they didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. You'd think such a large company would address this issue. Every other store we went into had ample air conditioning. As if that's not enough, it was very unorganized and the employees were more worried about their private conversations than doing their jobs. Went to the Elizabeth Arden counter and found a really nice Fashion Fair foundation. Was helped by a very rude woman named "Marianne" she was aggravated the entire time and when my younger male cousin asked for the price of a color she stated " items are priced by item not color". He is a 15 year old boy who doesn't buy makeup so I don't understand why she said that to him as if he was an idiot. After trying on the shade and seconding I wanted it my aunt asked for a tissue to wipe the makeup off her hand and asked for a trashcan. Marianne made a big show of looking for a tissue to use to pick up my aunts tissue . When we stated we had literally just used it for the makeup in her sight she states "I don't touch other people's tissues, I don't want those germs. Is that okay with you?" At which point my aunt simply said "you are very rude" and we left. I went over to Carsons and was treated totally different. read more

I will never return to this store again. What a joke. So back in the day, when it was Fields, it was always clean and had stellar customer service. Now, it's a crowded mess and full of frumpy associates who could care less about the customer and more about talking to each other. I had brought my new watch in to get two links taken out and did not have the proof of purchase. The guy took it from me, looked like he didn't know what he was supposed to do, talked to another associate and then came back and smirked at me and said that he couldn't help me without my receipt. Well I had received it as a gift and thrown out my proof of purchase like an idiot. I told them this and the girl across the counter very rudely shouted back to me that they couldn't do anything and I had to go to another store in the mall and pay $10 to have it fixed. Period. Fine that's your policy so I did just that, however I totally diagree with it. I think that if you're going to have a policy like this then you should either a. tell the customer when you purchased the item to forever hold onto the tag or b. have some sort of internal database for jewelry to save the customer's name, address and item purchased. Great clothing options in general, but lesser variety than other Macy's stores in the western and northern suburbs. If you wait for the right sale, you can get a $2000 wardrobe for less than half the price. This Macy's doesn't seem to offer good quality suits in comparison to other Macy's as previously mentioned and certainly not as good as a 3-suit deal from Joseph A Bank which is just a short walk away at the same mall. read more

I really don't want you to think the whole store is bad because of this rating. I just had a bad experience at the Dior counter. I walked in and ask for a quick make over with a couple of products that I am buying. The so called "Beauty Stylist" did a so called "fool proof" make over and made me llok like a clown. The whole time her hand was shaking and she seems to have a hard time remembering what tool she used 5 seconds ago. I expect to learn something from a Dior Beauty Stylist. Not how to put color on your face. I mean, won't you want your customer to look good on your products? Now she walk outside and people are saying "Miss, you have a face on your make up." How do you expect your products to live up the expectation? what is your purpose of being here? Then it came the assistant who helped me get the products i want. she is not familiar with some of the products. Product knowledge, the least I can expect from a sales associate, where is it? And it's not like Dior has a whole lot of beauty products. If they spent less time standing there talking then knowing what an eyeliner look like shouldn't be that hard. And instead of just telling me "they are very good" you can at least have other benifits to tell me about. Luckily I did my homework before I buy so I know what I am buying. If I were a secret shopper I would have to say they fail big time! Update: ok this Macy's really sucks! Went back there to get cloths for hubby yesterday and he got talked into opening a Macy's card. We were stuck there for over an hour! one piece of information went wrong and it was not approve. But the lady wouldn't even tell us. She just kept on typing things on her computer. When I told her we really need to leave cause we are running late. she even lied to us. This is the part that made me so mad! She kept on telling us "you already got the account. I just need one last piece of information and I'm done!" when in fact she already got the confirmation that the account is not approve (she even called and verified it!!!) Because of what she said, we thought it went through we just stood there waited. Beside, she had our ID's we couldn't leave without them! This is the worse shopping experience ever! Being lied to and our ID's being held by this lady working at the men's clothing department. Just so she can get the bonus for opening a Macy's card for us. This makes me sick! My daughter afraid one of them is going to open door. Also observed in fitting room: mothers changing diapers in fitting room. Popcorn on floor. Empty drink cups. I went into this Macy's just to exchange a pair of shoes that I got for a Christmas present. I stopped and asked 3 different people for help who proceeded to tell me that they were not able to help me and then instructed me to go find another person elsewhere in the store. I went to the register at the shoes counter where the cashier was dealing with another customer who had been trying to return something. When it was my turn I explained that I just needed to exchange my shoes for a smaller size. I explained how they were a Christmas present so I did not have the receipt but I did have the packaging in which they were delivered it(shoes were ordered online). She tried looking up numbers from that with an attitude. She then proceeded to tell me that she had "bad news" for me. She told me that my boots were not able to be refunded bc of the sale(even though I just needed to exchange them) and that I could not leave with my original boots because it showed a refund for them even though I had the shoes in my hands right there in front of her. She called the manager over who was trying to help but couldn't get the system to exchange anything because of the order being online and such. I told her that the other women had told me I could not take my original shoes home and she assured me that that was not the case. The cashier then proceeded to scream at me and claim that it was her also rude co worker who said that. She continued screaming at me in front of her manager denying that she had said that to me. My mom who was right there had also heard everything and told the women to stop yelling and just admit that she said it because there was no sense in lying. the women only stopped yelling because her manager told her to stop, gave me back my shoes and apologized for all of the trouble. I never ever shop at Macy's but I strolled through to see if they had any basketball shorts that I could get my father for Christmas. It turns out that they did. They had a sale on all of their athletic apparel including Nike, Under Armor, Adidas, Puma, etc. for 25% off. I grabbed my dad two pairs of Puma shorts and two Puma tops. The day after Christmas I noticed they had a coupon for $20 off a $50 purchase involving sale items. Score! I returned and re-bought my dad's gifts using the coupon and also decided to buy some Puma sweatpants and Puma tops for myself. When I went to the counter to use the coupon the sales associate said that the computer was not allowing the coupon to go through when purchasing Puma items. I asked for her to look at the coupon and see for herself that Puma apparel was not written in as an exclusion on the coupon. She said there was nothing she could do and I asked her to get her manager. The manager was more than happy to apply the coupon due to there not being any exclusions written in about Puma. I ended up saving $60 with the coupons and $40 with the 25% off deal. In essence I saved $100 and pretty much got 50% off all of the items I purchased. Another poor experience to report...it was close to closing time, and the cashier is checking out someone in front of me, I am the only person in line and she appears to not like that I got in the line, I think she was tired and wanted to call it a night. She looked over to half across the store and told me that if I wanted to I could go to the next register over there, I am not sure where over there was, but I told her that was ok that by the time I reached to over there someone will probably get or be in line, I will just wait...after another few moments a co worker walked up to her and she again repeated to tell me if I wanted I could go over there, I again said, that's ok its not a big deal I will just wait...ok lady I get it you want to be done with work, I want to pay and leave can we compromise? She then asked her co worker to ring me up and he was as slow ringing up as she was. Left feeling like they did me a favor somehow:( read more

Unfortunately, since my last positive experience in Macy's, it seems as if the customer service has gone downhill. I went in to look for a woman's spring jacket and was having difficultly finding where they would be.. went to the men's section where there were jackets available and found one similar to what I needed.. I brought it over to a register to ask where I could find similar women's jackets and watched for two minutes as two employees carried on a conversation with an indecisive customer; you could tell the employees were aware I was waiting to ask a question, yet nowhere in this time did they ask if I needed help. Asked another employee in a different area, was told to go to the basement-- only to find that there was nothing close to what I needed down there. Guess the summertime is when the employees take a little break from the good customer service I was used to receiving! read more
