This is seriously one of the worst run department stores I have ever been to. The people that work here don't have a clue about customer service. I don't blame the employees as I'm sure the training is crap, the pay is dog shit and management is non-existent. I live 2 minutes from this location and will drive Nordstom in Skokie or Von Maur in Glenview . At least you get service and competent people that work there. Not a shock that Macy's has been closing stores all over. I will never step foot in this location again. read more

I love this Macy's. It's big but not crazy big. They have a big beauty section with all my favorite brands like MAC, Benefit, Clinique, Dior, Estee Lauder, etc... They seem to always have a great sale going as well. I got my husband a Calvin Klein peacoat for about 1/2 off this past weekend, plus an extra 15% for using my Macy's card. It was a great deal! They do have the perfume people ready at a whim to spritz you down but not unless you ask for it which is really nice. I have been shopping at this store since it was Marshall Fields so going back around 20 years. When it was Fields it was a great store in that it had upscale ladies clothes, service was great and the store kept its appearance up. Since it became a Macy's store about 10 years ago it has gone straight down hill in every way. The store has not seen a bit of moderrnization in all that time. The same tile, carpeting, pictures on the walls, etc, is still there. Its become ratty looking and dumpy. The store is always a mess because they have cut the employees. Now the clothes are getting cheap and service is non existent. I miss the old days when this was not the case. I have recently decided that I deserve better and I will no longer shop there. I am now going to Lord & Taylor, Saks and Nordstroms where customer satisfaction matters. read more

Personal shopper, JoAnn Hack, is nothing short of A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!! I called her yesterday to tell her I have a black-tie event to go to and made an appointment to come in today to try on dresses over my lunch hour. I've worked with her several times now and she understands my body type and has gotten to know my style preferences. Upon arrival, she whisked me into the dressing room where she had several dresses pre-selected. Pointed out the one she thought I'd like best - I tried it on and LOVED it. I spent less than 10 minutes from the time I stepped into the store to the time I paid and was walking out. JoAnn, I cannot thank you enough! JoAnn, Macy's is lucky to have you! I would give negative stars if I could. Macy's said I couldn't earn points unless I got a different/new number since the old one was linked to an inactivated credit card. So after a few times talking to customer service I said ok, no points. Then in the past month things I have been returning I have been getting less than I paid for. All of a sudden I'm accruing points and when I purchase online, points are automatically being used. When you return they don't take away points, they convert points to cash so you get less then you paid for. Sneaky. Plenty of places to shop, go elsewhere read more

I am not a regular Macy's shopper - I usually only go there when I receive a gift card or if there is a sale that is just too good to be true as I find them to be way overpriced...but that's a whole other story. As far as this particular Macy's, it's kind of small in comparison to other locations, but since I usually only go to their perfume counters or housewares department, I will say that the perfume sections at this location were just fine, but the housewares section located in the lower level was really small and terribly under-stocked. It's not like I had a million dollar gift card to spend, but it would have been nice to have a few more choices. I ended up picking several smaller kitchen gadgets that I had been wanting to get and with the balance I made sure to keep my imaginary diet at bay by purchasing a nice amount of Frango Mints. The one GOOD thing? Very nice customer service rep who helped us with some random questions we had about the Frango Mints (wow, have they expanded that line)... Never let good customer service go unnoticed, wish I would have gotten her name - whatever your name was, thanks for your help and patience with us as we tried to determine which type of mint would help us expand our waistline. read more

First of all, Macy's will never be Marshall Field's. Honestly, I'm still upset over that, but it hasn't stopped me from shopping at Macy's. Macy's is a pretty good store that offers pretty good quality items for a pretty good price. I like their housewares department and I like how they've partnered with people like Emril and Martha Stewart for some of their products. The prices are good and even better if you have a Macy's card. I always get coupons from them in the mail. I haven't had any issues with the service when I've gone in. However, for the downsides, sometimes the selection isn't as good as it should be and I've had a hard time finding checkout areas since they are buried in departments instead of in one section. But, again, it won't keep me from shopping there. read more

Today I stopped at Macy's in Vernon Hills to look for sunglasses as it is pretty much the only department store left in the area. To begin with, this store is perpetually understaffed but I knew that going in. However, I'm actually writing this review because of the atrocious state of the women's restroom! Every toilet but one was filthy, full, or stopped up! Come on!! Is this store closing????? I tried to purchase a bunch of items, 8 in total, and walked out with 2. Nothing in stock! Had to wait forever for a sales associate at Bobby Brown that I had sufficient time to notice how run down and dirty the area looked to me. Once a sales associate was kind enough to acknowledge my presence from another counter she kept opening "storage" drawers that we either empty or near empty. Everyone offered to order the out of stock items and have them shipped but I can order online on my own. Wonder why brick and mortar is losing to on-line shopping this experience is it! read more

After a terrible experience at Mens Wearhouse, the boo suprised me by saying that he still had some shopping energy left. That's all I needed to hear and off we went to Macy's to look for suits for our upcoming wedding. The mens section was having crazy sales, so it was a bit messy between that and rolling out new product, but we didn't mind. We totally scored at this place! We found the suits that the guys will be wearing as a realtively new line to the store. We actually pulled the suit right off the rack, but don't tell anyone that. We are so excited and relieved to have found the menswear that we are going to celebrate by taking them all shopping at once and treating them to pizza and beer. :) read more

This review could be about the fact that finding a cashier at the Vernon Hills, IL store often requires a long search because the store is woefully understaffed. Today, however, I am writing about the horrible customer service that I received on the phone today. This xmas season, I bought several items at the Macy's store and ordered a few more from their website. One item that I had ordered on December 2nd still had not arrived today, Dec 30. A call to customer service resulted in my talking to three representatives. It seems that UPS had lost the item, and the item is no longer available, so I was offered a credit to my account. When the Macy's representative told me the account number that she would be crediting, it was NOT my number! She then verified all my personal information with me, but she could not explain why the account number that she had was not the number on my card, so she transferred me to another rep. That person could only tell me that Macy's must have used an old card number, and she then asked me to check to see if any of my old cards had that number. I could not do that because I, like most people, do not file old expired cards for future reference. Then the rep told me that my account, which was originally issued from Marshall Field's 46 years ago, had changed numbers several times since it became Macy's, and that Macy's may not have updated all their departments with current numbers for all customers. I continued to try, without success, to get her to explain to me how I was going to get a credit for my lost item if Macy's was using a number different than the one on my Macy's credit card. The rep became frustrated and said "Sheesh!" I asked to speak to her supervisor twice, but she kept talking. So, I apologized for taking so much of her time, told her thanks and happy new year, hung up, and called Customer Service back in hopes of getting an explanation from a different rep--I did not get one. I settled for a promise that a credit would be issued to my account within 24 to 72 hours, and I could call back in three days to make sure it was. This "customer service" was totally unacceptable. Badly done, Macy's, badly done! Oh, how I miss Marshall Field's! read more

This location is very disappointing. It is holiday season and they're severely understaffed and the staff that is there doesn't have a good work ethic at all. We waited for over 10 minutes for someone to ring us up and there were 5-6 people waiting behind us to check out as well. I haven't even mentioned the dressing room locks that don't work, sucker sticks and stains on the carpet, clothes that are laying on the floor or ones that are clearly not from that department. I don't go to the mall often but I can't believe this is the norm. Thoroughly disappointed in this location. read more

I went to this Macy's to find my boyfriend a watch for his birthday. I went over to the men's watches and approached a lady working there. I asked her if she could help me look for a watch in my price range. She hesitated and said let me go get someone who knows more about watches, which was fine. What I am frustrated about is the man that came over didn't even help me pick out a watch. Just pointed and said these might be in your price range. Then proceded to try to sell me a Macy's card. In my opinion in customer service you are suppose to go with your customer and pick a few things out for them to get then started. He clearly knew I didn't know much and didn't offer me any more help then that. I'm very disappointed. I went to Sears instead and the lady there was very helpful. I recommend having people on the floor that want to sell stuff. read more

I've been shopping at this mall for over 20 years. Macy's has never been of the same quality in terms of product or service compared to Marshall Field's, but this particular location is particularly awful. The service is terrible. The sales representatives are rude, dismissive, condescending, and very inattentive. Too many coupons have too many exclusions, which makes them nearly impossible to use on the items I would normally purchase. The caliber of the clientele has definitely changed over the years, because now you can't even look at more than one jewelry item at a time; this makes it very difficult to compare items for purchase. It is always disorganized because people rip through the store, tear up displays, and leave garbage everywhere, and the staff don't seem to care. Shopping is partially based on experience - how you feel when you're there - and to me it always feels like an overly crowded, cheap, nasty bargain basement with disgruntled employees and pushy, rude, and bargain-hunting customers. They've really sacrificed quality for something - profits, I'm sure - and it will eventually be to their own detriment. read more

I'M DONE WITH MAC. I brought in empty 6 lipsticks to redeem for a new one free just to find out they have discontinued the color I was using. I'm particular to hue's and it takes me forever to find a color I like. My new husband and I went in to buy things off our registry the sunday after our wedding. We had an envelope with our gift money in it that I was keeping in my purse. When we went to make our second transaction I discovered the envelope was missing and immediately panicked. The cashier was little help and didn't know how to get ahold of mall security. The department store security was not there (apparently off Sundays) and she tried to avoid getting a manager. The HR woman I spoke to took my information and then told me "Well I'm leaving at five so I hope they help you in the morning." And then left. The manager (Su) we finally coerced the cashier into finding was helpful and reassuring, but she didn't have access to security footage and by then we had been looking for almost two hours. Other cashiers were shrugging us off, or briefly pretending to be helpful. All in all it was a horrible experience and from now on I'll be finishing my Macy's registry solely online, and will likely never set foot in a store again. Certainly wouldn't want to deal with their customer service department for anything important. read more

I had been trying unsuccesfully to find a dress to wear to a wedding that I'll be attending next week. Nothing I tried was working for me. Enter Jo Ann... After talking for a few minutes, she understood what I wanted and was able to find the perfect dress as well as 2 other beautiful garments that I also bought. Store workers are not great, purchased a Coach purse and the people working in the department were very rude. Fine jewelry people were amazing. Benefit comestic help is the worst, the women working at the counter are rude and are too busy entertaining themselves to have any knowledge or even care if they make a sale. read more

Love this Macy's! The beauty department is what I go for when I go there, the Chanel and Mac counter is my favorite. Adorable and sweet people who sell the products, and not force it. But let me tell you, if you decide to go to the Bobbi brown counter and bump into an elder lady asking if you need any help, RUN! She's probably the most rudest person I have met in my life. When I demanded to buy a Bobbi brown product with my Chanel after the 3rd time I told her that's the only way ill pay (for less tax) she said "I can't do that, but your going to have to take your Chanel products and bring it over here, and if you can't do that, I can't sell any of "our" cosmetics to you". I was ready to report her but I walked away and put my complaint in. Unbelievable lady. read more

Go to another location of Macys, or better yet, pick another store. Completely understaffed and unprepared for any amount of people in each department throughout the store. Unfriendly associates and rude managers make for a combination at which ruins the store for me in general. Messy everywhere and almost impossible to shop in. One of the main things I have learned at Macy's is that holidays are never when you think they are. Right now, instead of Christmas being in December Macy's is putting our decorations like it's in September? Yeah, that's messed up. If the snow flies you can put out the decorations, if no snow put it thanksgiving week. I love the store and everything it has, I shop here a lot. read more

The most poorest service ever!!! I bought a dress BCBG for 198$, asked my husband return it next day because it was defective, they would not accept return, they said that they couldn't sale dress like that, and ask him come next time when manager will be there. I love this store! There is a salesperson in the women's department that is so helpful! She will help you look for another size, color, anything, and really knows her stock. She takes great care of her customers, even getting them another size while they are in the dressing room, which is something that never happens these days. She always takes the time to wrap things neatly, in tissue paper. She will tell you that she is so old everyone asks why she doesn't retire, and she says it's because she loves helping people. I suppose if you are in a big hurry, or just looking for a bargain, you might not appreciate her, but I am always glad when I see her working. read more

I love Macy's, what do I come for? Purses, perfume & makeup. My favorite brands are MAC & Chanel. They girls at MAC are awesome! They are very friendly and helpful. I always have to stop by the MAC section. Chanel is right across from MAC, and boy can you just feel the bad vibe on that side. I believe those old ladies are the rudest women in the store. How much do you get paid that to have such an attitude? They give you dirty stares, and don't even seem interested in helping. The only time I ever see them be "friendly" is when I spend over 400 in products. I guess they clearly don't believe certain people can afford certain things. I did a test one time, I walked in looking average. a bun in my hair, no make up, my Ray-Bans on, sandals and a Michael-Kors purse-THEY ACTED SO RUDE!! The next time, I walked in with my hair & makeup done, my Prada shades, my louboutins and my Louis Vuitton bag, I guess that's the only time they seem SOMEWHAT helpful. When they see what you wear. The only Macy's I ever recommend is downtown Chicago. Definitely stop in when you're around there! read more
