I am in town for NYE and needed my makeup done but didn't make an appointment...while other makeup counters weren't able to take me, Sharia at Estee Lauder squeezed me in! And when I tell you that she listened to exactly what I wanted and delivered! It was honestly the BEST my makeup has ever looked after being done by an MUA. This was one of the few department stores that was open in the morning and we desperately needed it. My boyfriend traveled all the way from California for a job interview this afternoon, and unfortunately the interview clothes that he brought with him no longer fit. We looked up this store which happened to be close to our hotel and close to where the interview was being held. They have an entire floor dedicated to men's clothing which was great. We carefully picked out a nice dress shirt and pants and I am positive that he looks ready to go. There were a few employees around, but we didn't really need any help. We actually purchased two dress shirts, pants, and a short sleeve shirt as well. I was glad that this store was here and open. read more

Worked for Macy's Legal for 17 years, so it's particularly sad to witness their ongoing slide. This is a nice store, but the air conditioning was broken (clerk said it's been that way all summer) and multiple escalators were broken. Makes me wonder if they're closing this store as well. Had a not so pleasant experience the other day at this Macy's location with my mom to pick up an online order. One thing I don't tolerate is when someone disrespects someone I love ESPECIALLY my mama. We walked to the service center in the back and there were a couple of people ahead of us. I noticed one of the associates, Sherwood, and was like wow his look was bomb (beard, hair, outfit, face was giving). I was telling my mom but I don't think she heard me lol. I was also planning to compliment him when I got to the register. Anyways, we end up next in line, he didn't greet us (or maybe I missed it -- unlikely though). My mama said she's picking up an online order, he seemed so irritated when he asked for the order number but my mama let it go and provided the number. He walked away to pick up the item from the back. He brought it to us and my mother said thank you, again he didn't say anything back and then greeted the next person in line. I didn't understand the attitude when he was acting fine with the customer before us and then after us. My mama is one of thee most loving and kindest human beings you'll meet so I was extremely mad that he would treat her that way. Instead of making a scene, I asked another associate for a supervisor or manager to speak with. Brandon was extremely nice and understanding. He apologized on Sherwood's behalf and said he would discuss the horrible service and interaction we had with him because it wasn't acceptable. Although it didn't change the situation, I appreciated his help. Sherwood, I'm sure you wouldn't want anyone to disrespect your mother so do better and maybe revisit learning the basics of treating others with respect. read more

Need to train your sales associates. They know nothing about the fragrances they try to push. I was told the percentage is the alcohol percentage not the fragrant percentage. All fragrances are 100% and the percentage is due to the alcohol and that makes last longer and smell stronger because of the alcohol, not the fragrance concentration. Not only did they not know they're giving out false information. If there is any training, the training failed her if there is no training that's pretty obvious. Then when I was looking for samples, they said they don't have any so customer service is terrible. read more

There once was a time when I would have rated this Macy's higher. It's the local flagship store and thus it's expected that they would have more items available than the local Macy's. With that in mind, during our recent DC staycation, I decided to visit in hopes of buying some tops. As I looked for a store directory, I got distracted by all the bags for sale. Thinking that I wouldn't buy anything, it wouldn't hurt to take a look. Well...I came across a table with items marked "40% off". It was there that I saw a bag I liked. After looking at it, I reminded myself that I was here to look at tops so I moved along. Once I figured out where the tops were, I headed there and was very disappointed. The selection and the stock was poor. I checked regular priced items and the sales items. Nothing was even worth trying. That's a shame. Years back, I had to get an outfit for an event we were attending. When I couldn't find anything appropriate, I went to this Macy's and had no problem finding something suitable. I went back to the hotel empty-handed but...I was still thinking about the bag. We had a reservation for dinner and we needed to get going. I told my husband about the bag and he said I should go back and get it after dinner. So...that's what I did. When I went to pay for it, I told the sales clerk that I had some Macy's coupons. She said the coupons would be on my Macy's card, which was correct. Those coupons were awesome! They saved me another $30! It's a nice bag with lots of storage compartments. My husband said I should transfer the contents of the bag I had with me and use the new one. Good idea! Everything easily fit with room to spare. I used the extra room to put some other items I bought elsewhere. And, here I went expecting to buy a new top or two. Instead I went home with a new bag LOL! In the future, I don't think I'll try to look for any clothing here, lest I once again get distracted by the bags. read more

This location has a clearly marked "All Gender Restroom" but when I attempted to use this restroom a staff member proceeded to yell at me "NO NO NO NO NO!" and continued to yell at me to go to the "Mens" and "Womens" around the corner. 1) Staff member shouting at a patron? Unacceptable. 2) Having a restroom marked for trans people and then screaming at them when they attempt to use the bathroom that is supposed to be safe for them? Unacceptable. 3) Perhaps the restroom is intended to be reserved for staff? If I am giving the benefit of the doubt and was just not properly or clearly marked/indicated. But regardless, I should not have been spoken to that way. Not sure where Macys stands on their previous DEI statements currently. But my experience at this location was disgusting. read more

For some reason this Macy's stopped listing prices for many housewares, so you have to scan everything individually. Previously if items didn't have individual tags there would be a displayed list of all the items of a given collection with the prices, so you just match the item to the description and the price. But they gave up on the signs and the shelves don't have price labels either, so now you need to scan everything. The employee confirmed this. Clothing will almost always have price tags, but housewares are likely to have only a bar code and no actual price. Macy's Backstage in the adjacent section is similar toTJ Maxx and Marshalls ad has prices on each item individually. Macy's should make sure all housewares prices are listed. This store is right above metro center metro station with housewares and macy's backstage on the lower level along with the restroom. Toys R Us has a location on the lower level also. read more

Macy's has definitely made this branch more exciting than I remember it last. It's got pretty much everything you need, but staff are still often hard to find. And it's hard to shop the clothing section when the escalators aren't working. But other than that, the store is clean and laid out well. read more

My grandmother has purchased a bottle of Marc Jacob's perfume from Macy's that had a defective top. Most of the contents have dispelled from the bottle without being used by me. My mother took this bottle to Macy's and explained that it came defective and we would like a new bottle. Not only did they refuse to provide us with a new bottle they're saying they'll give us only the little amount left. That is RIDICULOUS! I want a full refund for this purchase. First - the frog picture is hilarious. Beyond that, this Macys is really the only option for any semblance of department store shopping in the area. Usually I just go to stroll but never buy much. Prices and discounts are actually decent sometimes. But it's a small attempt on what could be a solid Macys. Outside, there's always one homeless person. read more

The escalator in this location has been down for months, maybe years. It's hard to find someone at a register to ring you up. I've wandered around the floors looking for someone multiple times. It's poorly stocked and there isn't anyone to ask. If you find anyone, they are super annoyed to take your credit card. It's also just filthy inside. read more

I'm glad Macy's downtown DC is still open in these tough times for department stores. I assume employees still get some basic training in how to interact politely with customers but can't be sure when an associate (if you can find one) greets you with "What do you need?" barely speaks or doesn't say simple thank you when making a purchase. My wife likes Macy's and since most of the ones by our home have closed she wanted to visit this one while walking around DC. This 4 level Macy's was very nice and decorated for Christmas . The staff was all very nice and helped when asked. The elevator was out and the escalators were off so we got our steps in. We will likely visit when the elevator is fixed to see all the levels. read more

I visited this store on 12/31/21 around 5:10pm because my son wanted to go to the mall but since the mall closed earlier than normal, it would've been pointless to go for an hour. He wanted to go somewhere shopping wise and this sufficed. While in the kids section on the top floor, I noticed the kids hats and gloves for 60% off. When scanning the name brands in the section (i.e. Nike, Champion, and Tommy Hilfiger), they didn't come up the 60% off but non name brand did. When I sought assistance of an employee at a cash register (named Wendy according to name badge), I was dismissed. Wendy initially told me that she was closed and to go to another register. It was 5:25pm. When I said I had a question and proceeded to explain, she told me that it happens and that those brands are normally not on sale. Wendy didn't even come to look what I was referring, did not offer any additional assistance, and did not seem to care at all. It seemed that she was more interested in leaving. After several minutes, I brought it up to another employee who came out the fitting room area. She was not wearing a name badge and appeared busy. Even so, she talked to me and provided assistance. She scanned the items and walked to the area with me. She told me to bring one of each to the register and let them know as they would best be able to assist. This lady was really kind and helpful! I wish I knew her name to give her the acknowledgment she deserves. As it was approaching 6pm, I went to check out. There was no one at the registers in lingerie or the kids section. As I walked around, an employee told me to check out downstairs. I went down one floor and checked out by the Michael Kors department. I explained to the employee (who wasn't wearing a name badge) the issue with the hat and gloves set. I was also dismissed. The lady told me that that I needed to go upstairs for assistance. I told her that no one at the registers and was told to come downstairs. She made a comment saying that they probably didn't want to deal with anything. I told her an employee told me that someone at the register could assist. She proceeded to say that she couldn't do anything about it and that I would need to go upstairs. She told me that if I wanted the items, I'd have to pay whatever they rang up to. She then rang up the items and said the prices. As I'm trying to politely explain and show her that they are supposed to be 60% off as I had taken pictures, she again said that was nothing she could do. I asked to speak with a manager and she told me that since they were closing, she doubts one would be available and processed to bag the other items and check me out. She didn't even ask if I wanted to get the hat and gloves. I did not appreciate the way that I was treated and the complete lack of concern, assistance, and appropriate customer service. This lady was dismissive and unhelpful just like my first encounter with Wendy. I will add I had my 8 y/o son with me who witnessed this treatment and verbalized his dislike of her attitude and the way she spoke to me as we walked away. We went back upstairs and thankfully saw two employees at a register in lingerie department. They were checking someone out. Afterwards, I proceeded to explain the issue with the hat and gloves and the experience we had downstairs during check out. The lady who assisted this time was named Kineta, according to name badge. She was extremely helpful and friendly! Kineta had a good attitude and interacted well with my son, which I greatly appreciated. She checked me out and applied the advertised 60% off on the items. After checkout, she informed me that she was a manager and told me go to website to leave report on my experience, which is exactly what I'm doing and was going to do anyway. I understand it's closing time and people are ready to get off work, but I don't think that should be an excuse to treat people rude and not perform your duties as an employee. I don't think I was asking for too much. It took the manager absolutely no time at all to fix the price.... Thankfully, I got the items on discount. I also got my kid a nice soft/fur like jacket for $18 as it was 60% off. I also got him 2 Levi shirts that were half off ($9 and $11). The boys section is split into 2 parts (2-7 and 8-20). There wasn't a whole lot of variety. I was initially looking for a nice overcoat for him. I'll be checking the mall for it. I wish I had time to look into the mens section to see if they had any good deals. IF I return, I hope to have a better experience. read more

Each time I come here the escalators going down are never working. It's pretty hard to find customer service & the overall set up/organization of the Women's department is like being on a Scavenger Hunt. The atmosphere doesn't smell well either. I actually had two employees ignore my "Excuse me" & the lady with a limp carrying three bags of shoes stopped to assist me. I would expect this store due to its location to be in better shape across the board. I'll keep going to Democracy if not online for my Macy's fix. read more

Have been a longtime customer of Macy's in store and online. Recently ordered sheet set and 2 extra pillowcases. Only received the sheet set. Customer chat basically called us liars saying USPS said they were delivered. USPS is the most unreliable shipper of all. So for the price of 2 pillowcases will never set foot in your stores again and definitely never buy online again. Returning the sheet set to the nearest store in person. read more

I actually remember when this was called Hechts! Anyone else remember that?! Ok I just totally aged myself. This location is ok. Certainly not my go to! They're conveniently located by the metro center station and I work close by so I give them that! Over the years, this store has lost it's appeal to me. Alot of stores have been closing but this one is probably here to stay I think. They got rid of the junior's section here. I think they did that to keep out ex certain demographic. I still like shopping in the Junior's department. I just have to go to a different location. I still come here for the M.A.C. counter and that's , really about the only reason I have to step foot in here. read more

Most people don't know that at this location, they have a "secret" Macy's in the basement. It's their Backstage section and I love it! Every time I go there, I come with no expectations but leave with a bag full of items. On this last trip, I picked up some new outfits for the kids, new throw blankets, a gold yoga cat, Jessica Simpson sunglasses, and some nail polish. My wife brought me some cologne as a gift. Since I already had it, I tried to take it back to Macys at Metro Center, Washington, DC. Macys refused to take back the item stating I needed a receipt. I explained it was a gift and I didnt not have a receipt. The manager said they would take it back and mail out a credit, however the lady at the perfume counter refused, indicating it could have been purchased at another store like Nordstorm because they all have the same barcode. This is the main reason do not shop at Macys. This explains why so many of their stores are closing and exactly why they are struggling. I would never spend a dime in Macys. I call Macy's customer service and explained why I was returning the comforter set. They gave me instructions, I explained the box which it was sent in was wet and too damaged to use. I went to purchase a mattress because Macys was having a sale, but after not finding anyone to wait on me, I called the store and asked the sales girl in Backstage dept why I can't find help, she then called the woman who was supposed to be on the floor and said she was making tags. I was shopping on my own before she came to help me, so I decided quickly on what I wanted. The lux mattress made for Macy that was 1787. 00 plus 100.00 gc. I was ready to make the sale, but was told the adj base was going to be like a sliding board and I would fall out of bed. i only needed the mattress so decided to take the mattress. Then, the salesperson said she had to help a gentleman that was there earlier, actually 3 times. no problem! but after 30 min. of me sitting on the bed waiting for her to write up the sale, I left. She could've called the manager and had someone else wait on me. if the man had been there 3 times before, and still didn't decide, she could've told him, she was going to ring me out and be right back. I went into the downtown location about 6 hours before an event to ask if somebody could possibly do my makeup and I'd be happy to purchase some products, as I've done in the past. The Mac employee, Cat, took my name and number down and said she'd call me to let me know if somebody was available. Three hours later I had to call the makeup department because nobody had given me a call back. Cat answered and it was clear she had completely forgotten and neglected to call me back to let me know. She said they did not have anyone available, but it was clear she hadn't even bothered to check and had no intention to call back to let me know. Ridiculously poor customer service for a location that has NO customer traffic, and clearly for a reason. read more

On June 11, 2021, they delivered the correct sofa but it was damaged. This time they left the sofa since the replacement would be available the next week. However, on June 22, 2021, they delivered the wrong piece to replace the damaged cushion. At this point I have to just laugh because of the ridiculousness of this order. Definitely not worth the cost or headache!!! It should be noted, the delivery guys have been awesome in this process. I actually feel bad for them since they've had to bring in (up two flights of stairs) the wrong items twice, while raining. read more

Every time I visit - the escalators are broken and customers are sent to a slow slow elevator - what a waste of time. Customer service employees are nice - but almost impossible to find - it takes ages to find an open register to check out - forget if you have a question- no one on the floor to answer. The cosmetics counters are another frustrating part - no staff to help or check out - once you find them they seem to be inconvenienced - as they have other stands to cover. Macy's really wants us all to move online - in-person shopping experience is very difficult and time consuming. read more

Meh, I don't really get the problem here. Then again, I have a very different experience shopping as a dude at Macy's. Everything I can possibly buy is limited to one floor in this G street location. Given its proximity to a Metro station, if I'm out and about in the city this is a good place for me on a whim. Availability isn't the biggest here, but in terms of seasonals there's enough offerings. Strangely enough, when I came in for winter coats, they had more in my size at this location than some of the mall-embedded ones, and I'm not even on the bulky end of 6 foot Asian dudes. Every city needs a downtown Macy's and this one is in the heart of DC. It's several floors big and has all the usual Macy suspects from men's shoes to cologne to casual wear. It makes it convenient for all the tourists and business travelers in case they need anything last minute. One thing I've noticed at most Macy's: A lot of the workers are just slow.
