I moved to Madison without a car. With the many taxi services, Uber, and Zip Car I thought I'd…read morecovered all my bases. Well a day ago I needed to get across to the west side of town. I needed to catch a bus. For $2 can get from the east to the west or practically anywhere in Madison. There are a few Apps to download which keep the schedule updated to the minute; helpful in bad weather, and they help you plan your trip with a color coded bus number system that includes how many stops to your destination. If you ever need to get somewhere Madison Metro Bus will get you there. If you're new to the Metro system, "cityofmadison.com" will give you the "deets" on the bus. You can purchase weekly or monthly passes online or at the City Treasure on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. or at many other retail stores like Copps Foods, Hy-Vee, or the University Bookstore just to name a few. There's even a reduced fee pass for retired persons and another for low income persons. You can see if you qualify online. The busses are mostly clean, the drivers are extremely helpful if it's your first time or you need a transfer. Lastly, In 2007 Madison bought 5 Hybrid electric busses...way to be green Madison Metro!

I long for the days when we got a bus guide at least every year so we could plan to go somewhere…read moreand knew exactly when the bus arrived, where, and when you would get to your intended destination. Now you go to the computer, locate the proper page, and print out your path to where you intend to go. There are 4 interuptions in your trip because you have to use 4 buses to get to your destination. It used to be that time to get there is the same but you always use one bus. You used to use the guide to plan the route and not have to rely on computer maps that have chopped up you journey so you do a lot more walking. This new way is confusing and uncalled for. Surely the city could have planned better. What used to be a fairly good service turned into a lousey way to travel.

Went to take the G bus, westbound, Sunday at around 5:39 pm or so. I had never used the Madison bus…read moresystem before, which I told the bus driver, and was struggling to get the app to work. The driver, some middle-age white man with glasses and beard, was an absolute jerk about the whole thing - telling me "I should have had the app figured out" even though I had *just* told him I hadn't used the Madison bus system before. He even watched me add 2 dollars to the app (so I was clearly going to pay) - then told me it was the wrong one (which I found out later it wasn't) and still wouldn't let me on. I've ridden countless busses in different states and even other countries and haven't had this kind of issue before. I would have understood a simple "sorry, I can't let you on without fare" but this guy was a total *sshole about it. Definitely beware if you need to hop on the G.

Got to my bus stop at Baldwin St at 5:59am for my 6:04am bus (A1 bus Eastbound). The display…read morescreen said my bus was 4 mins away. Cool, right on time. I looked at the display again and my bus wasn't on the schedule anymore. Looked online and it was canceled. How can you cancel a bus when it's -15° and there's 4 people relying on it. The next bus showed up 40 mins later. It's RIGHT NEXT TO THE BUS DEPOT!!! Never cancel a bus in dangerous conditions, send a substitute bus. Unacceptable. What are our taxes paying for?
