The taiyaki (the fish-shaped waffle cone) is warm, golden, and crispy on the outside, while the Nutella filling inside is hot, rich, and gooey--melting with every bite. It's a little messy but totally worth it. Ok, it can get really messy if you're excited to eat it like I was lol. So make sure you grab enough napkins. You can also get them filled with different flavors, like custard, but come on, you know Nutella is where it's at! I was excited to try this since I saw this on the gram. Aesthetically pleasing with the wooden wave ceiling and the cute display case, this was a refreshing addition to National City. Situated right next to Seafood City, this place had ample parking available in the strip mall. I ordered the white peach boba which was sweet and light. The cheesecake I ordered was the Matcha Double Fromage Cheesecake, which is featured in many media outlets. Sadly, this was so frozen that I had to ask the cashier to cut this in smaller pieces. Not sure if this is the way it's supposed to be presented, but for the price point of almost 11 dollars for one slice, my expectations were high. Terrible Customer Service Experience! We were really looking forward to celebrating my daughter's graduation and even arrived early, waiting patiently for the store to open. But as soon as we got inside, the experience took a turn. The manager--an older woman--was extremely rude and unwelcoming. I decided to try out Mad for Cheesecake because I had seen a few reels on Instagram about the desserts here. I was super excited to try it out, but I left feeling a little disappointed by my experience. First of all, the cafe (?) does not have any seating available. You just pick up your dessert for takeout and leave. This threw me off because dessert shops tend to have seating (even if it is limited) to provide customers with an enjoyable ambience and experience. Instead, we were forced to pick up our cold desserts and take them home. Second, it appears that the items we ordered were mostly just frozen? None of it seemed to be made then and there, which kind of bummed me out. Regarding the desserts, themselves, we ordered the Yaki pudding cheesecake and the matcha double fromage cheesecake. The yaki pudding cheesecake was so delicious! I absolutely loved the flavor, and I believe the bottom of the cheesecake had flan. The texture of the yaki pudding was very soft and enjoyable! The only complaint I have with the yaki pudding is the price versus size comparison--it is so tiny for its price. I was so shocked when we received it, but honestly I wish we had ordered a second. The matcha double fromage cheesecake, however, was a bit disappointing. The worker had told us that these cheesecakes should be left out for about 15 minutes because they are initially frozen, and that is exactly what we did. We probably left it out a little longer because we were making the roadtrip back home after getting our takeout dessert. When we had gone to eat the cheesecake, however, it still tasted slightly frozen? If I were to describe it, I would compare it to the old frozen ice cream you stumble across at the bottom of your freezer. It felt like you could taste the old ice in the cheesecake. The staff member who helped us lacked energy/enthusiasm, but she was nice. We ordered two Ube ice cream with custard filled taiyaki, matcha and milk ice cream with plain taiyaki and a matcha cheesecake to go. We were told that it would be about 15 minutes for the taiyaki which seemed long, but we didn't mind. Our ice cream was creamy and quite tasty, but the taiyaki was overcooked. It was too crunchy. The custard filling was less creamy and more gelatinous in texture. It also lacked flavor. We were told to eat the cheesecake frozen, which we thought was weird. Frozen desserts are usually too hard to eat, but hey we thought, "This is what they do. Let's eat it as instructed." To no surprise, it was too hard to eat. Nice little gem in the Southbay. I got a 7" Japanese cheesecakes ($13 each). This was delicious, fluffy & tasted better than another Japanese cheesecake place I've tried. I also got the 4.5" Matcha Double Fromage Cheesecake ($18.50). This was way smaller than I expected & for the price, I didn't think it was worth it. The staff is friendly and it wasn't super busy so we got our order quickly. The cafe is super cute and the design details are so pretty. The boba drink was very good. I ordered a matcha milk tea and an original Japanese cheesecake to try. The matcha milk tea was more on the milky side and lacked the matcha flavor, but I'm hoping the other drinks are more flavorful! The Japanese cheesecake was super fluffy, but a little moist, so some parts of the cake were exposed to more moisture but overall really good and good spongey consistency. I came on a Saturday night for dessert with a friend, the place is cute and had a ton of open seating. We ordered two tea drinks and two cheesecakes, the matcha and chocolate. The woman behind the counter was very helpful, answered all our questions and even asked us to try the drinks we ordered to make sure we liked them - we both did! I got the Mango Green Tea made less sweet than normal and it was delicious. I added popping boba but what I got looked more like small chunks of fruit...but it was still good and something new for me. The cheesecakes were really light and yummy - the only issue was that they were pretty frozen. My friend and I were catching up so it wasn't a huge deal but it took a long while for it to defrost. After having withdrawals, I decided to get a snack for the family at 8:42pm. To my surprise the two boys working this night already brought the signs in.
