I absolutely adored this place. Drinks - I had the chance to try two different drinks on this visit. The first was an iced matcha with a little added blackberry. It was really smooth and a very nice quality. The second drink was an iced latte from their specialty menu that had been renamed for a special event I was attending. I loved the flavor of the coffee, so much so that I grabbed some of their beans to take home as well. Merch - There was a great selection of merch from the company and local artisans as well. The stickers and mucus has some really cool designs. Staff - the baristas were some of the nicest people. Not only were they slinging drinks and working the event, but they were just amazingly personable and kind to all of our group. Location - most importantly though was the stunning location. The furniture, decor, vibe and even the commitment to theme through the bathrooms was everything. Even the confessionals booth was just perfect. I love Mad Priest's Dark Night of the Soul. It has been my go-to coffee for about two or three years now except it was from my local Publix and not from the storefront. I recently went on a weekend trip to Chattanooga and, upon remembering that Mad Priest was a Chattanooga based company, had to go see their storefront. I was not disappointed. First off, the decor was so excellently tongue-in-cheek. Highlights being the neon and black light infested confessional and the two afterlife themed bathrooms. Have you ever wanted to take a dump in hell? How about go number one inside the pearly gates? Well, thanks to the good people at Mad Priest, you can. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and very cool. They make excellent coffee and will tell you that they like your Creature from the Black Lagoon shirt. My first time there I ordered my old faithful, Dark Night of the Soul. For my second visit I decided to branch out and try one of their seasonal drinks. The theme for that menu at the time was Lord of the Rings. I decided on The Gimli which was an Irish cream and caramel latte. It was very good. If you're in Chattanooga and you need some good coffee in an environment that makes you wonder if you might be bound for hell then look no further than Mad Priest Coffee Roasters. They have just opened their new spot at 1200 McCallie Ave. This is the third coffee cafe you can find in or adjacent to the Highland Park neighborhood. It's like I've shared with my Family, good coffee is almost a religion here in Chattanooga, and arguably, at Mad Priest, it is a religion. MAD FOR MAD PRIEST | tldr: tiny little coffee shop with limited seating but dog friendly inside. My late friend (rest in peace vic) recommended I check out Mad Priest and I was so happy I did. Super low key and the coffee hit the spot first thing in the AM. The decor is everything I imagined Mad Priest would be - super quirky and fun, with some cool merch, too. Luckily we scored the only seats in the shop at the window which were very quiet and tucked in the corner facing the street. Thankful for the free WiFi as well!I didn't notice it at the time but it looks like there is outdoor seating available, too. They had a small seasonal drinks menu for the fall and I knew I had to try the Maple-ieve, which is literally fall in a cup. They also have a small selection of baked goods which pair nicely with coffee. When the weather warms up, I'll definitely be taking advantage of that outdoor seating next time I'm in town! read more

We were planning our second visit to Chattanooga and we could not wait to have this coffee. The first time we visited they were attached to a great donut shop but this time they were in a new space. This is one of those no frills coffee bars. A couple of tables, barely any standing room, meager food options, limited selection of drinks. The service is middling. The baristas are BUSY and focused on the task at hand with no conversation. Take order, make drink, get out. I didn't take stars away for that but it was a bit jarring. My matcha latte with oat milk was interesting. There is zero sweetness added to it. As somebody who prefers dessert coffees, it left me unsure how to feel about it. I liked it and it was well made. However, I miss the sugar rush and I needed it this morning as much as the caffeine jolt. It's located in a sketchy area that made me nervous. Homeless folks on the corner begging for money as you walked past. No stars deducted for that, obviously, just a word of caution if you visit. 4 stars because it's good for a no frills coffee shop. Disappointed. I've had MP coffee before and thought it was good, but i just had what the barista said was a medium\light roast which was really a dark roast. It was bitter without the brightness one would expect from a medium\light roast. I also had a chocolate chip muffin which was very gooey and sticky as if it were underbaked. The taste was okay, but the texture ruined it for me. They do have good customer service. read more

Visited here while in Chattanooga for the weekend...and if I'm honest, I was drawn to the spot because of the name and logo. Judge me if you will, but the coffee was incredible. I had a seasonal latte with brown sugar and toasted marshmallow. Divine (no pun intended). My wife got a chai and loved it as well. Not gonna lie, I almost went back in the afternoon because I loved the vibe of the place. At the time of this review they were nearing a move, so they didn't have many pastries, but for us that was okay...just a heads up. This is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall joint in Chattanooga, but man...they know their coffee. I asked a barista who has been there multiple decades, and they keep a series of old school, classroom maps to show where they source all their coffee from. They have some amazing autumnal options right now, all with fantastically spooky names inspired by the season. Our band of four ordered several of them, and no one had a single negative word to say....well, no one really said anything besides "mmmmmmm" while hungrily savoring their coffee beverages. I had a simple cold brew, and I was more than pleased with my choice. The brew is incredibly strong though, so keep that in mind when you're ordering. The priest is mad for a reason, after all. I give this place extra kudos for being willing to sell us some whole milk by the cup for my baby when it was likely we would have to rush to a store instead: it was really thoughtful and family-friendly of them. They didn't have to, but they were willing to accommodate. Highly recommend stopping by! They have a private lot right off the highway for parking, and it's walkable by sidewalk if you're nearby. read more

One thing I always try to find when visiting a new place is find a great coffee shop, and with Mad Priest I have found that. Normally, my first order is a cappuccino but with this Tennessee heat I've been going with an iced latte. On a rainy and much cooler day I was able to order a cappuccino and it was quite good. They have their own roastery and use a house blend for their espresso. I also noticed they have a Slayer. I usually see a La Marzocco , so I was surprised to see a Slayer. The people that work there are amazing as well. My first few visits Mya was behind the bar and always nice and makes great drinks. The other two baristas were nice as well and the drinks were good. Mad Priest is located near the intersection of 20th and Broad. They have a private lot with a lot of available parking. There are also a few picnic-like tables on the side of the building for outdoor seating. read more

Stopped in on our way out of Chattanooga. Ordered a cold brew, and it was SO good!! It definitely seemed fresh - not just old coffee turned into cold brew and sitting in the fridge forever. Everybody knows that Marbin likes to start the day with an americano (Rabin) and a black tea (Markovitch). Today, Danny tried the birthday cake tea (at Mad Priest in Chatanooga TN) and was pleasantly surprised by the balanced flavours and subtle aroma of lavender and vanilla. This coffee shop is located a comfortable stroll away from the district 3 hotel. The walk however, was not very scenic. I feel like the city could do a better job at planting some trees and perhaps encourage some more mom and pop type shops to relocate to this neighbourhood. Not their fault though! What I appreciated most about mad priest is that, like Marbin, they also respect water with bubbles. In fact, they came out with their own line of CBD infused bubbly water. Even though we are not fans of CBD, as it possesses all of the bummer properties of weed without any of the fun ones, we welcome Mad Tasty to the sparkling community and wish them great success. If I could offer one piece of criticism, I'd reconsider the name. I personally feel like religion should be left out of coffee and that the name Mad Priest has strong Christian undertones.
