We ordered pasta and of course could not pass up on the Elk special dish. It was a nice treat to know they have locals special menu available as well, so we also enjoyed oysters. Overall would definitely be returning and can't stop raving about this hidden gem.

Wish I had known a couple of details before planning my anniversary dinner here…read more This place is known for epic views, naturally we wanted a table with a view so I called a week in advance to request just that. The woman I spoke to said she would put it in her notes and that specific tables are not able to be held. She assured me we would have a good spot so I took her word for it. This was our first time coming here and its an hour drive. There is very minimal parking. We were lucky to get a spot as someone was leaving. We were seated at the worst table this place has to offer, right at the entrance to the bar and kitchen, in a narrow walkway, there is a window for one person to look out of and the other seat is looking into the kitchen as the table is positioned halfway in the middle of a window, so one side is against a wall and a view of the kitchen. The busy waitstaff was coming in and out quickly from both areas and walking past us with plates and such, it was chaotic at best. It felt almost insulting to be seated here as we had made a request well in advance to celebrate our anniversary which was also not acknowledged. Another party was just leaving so I was able to request to move. We were then seated at a 2 top table just outside of the atrium with a direct view thru a window of another 2 top table on the other side of the glass so when you go to look out the window its like you are staring at the people at the table thru the glass partition. We were so deflated by this whole seating situation. I say all of this to point out that if you are a party of 2 there is barely any tables with a clear view for both people so keep that in mind! If you have a party of 4-6 you have a much better chance of a better table. Really wish I had known that!!! The interior was nice enough but lacking the romance and ambiance I had hoped for, can we get some candles or flowers on the tables? Seems like an obvious detail overlooked. As far as the menu we were a bit underwhelmed by the offerings, there is a prefix menu and a small menu adjacent with minimal options like lamb and elk or vegetarian.... Probly should have looked at that before making this reservation but I had heard how amazing it was so I just took a chance. Although the choices were limited we enjoyed everything we ordered, food and drinks. Our waitress was nice and did a good job for us overall but definitely was more attentive and informative to the group adjacent to us which was a bit disappointing. Again this was a celebratory dinner and it just fell short for us in that way as it was not acknowledged Our tab was a little over 300$ portions were modest although tasty. I enjoyed the drinks and desert the most. To sum it up, I wont be going out of my way again to come back here. If I found myself in the area I might enjoy stopping in for a drink and dessert. Id say a solid 2.5 stars

So probably about four years ago I got to sample this amazing chowder at the North Coast wine event…read morein Santa Rosa. I was blown away, and I never forgot about it.. Now that we're on the Sonoma coast quite often I wasn't quite ready for a sit down, so I decided to take the chowder to go. According to the hostess, the bar staff would take my to go order. So I probably sat at the bar for I want to think about five minutes before I was even acknowledged that's very disappointing. it really gives you a dismissive feeling when other guests are being intended. I'm not talking about a large group 4 down to two people, and I honestly felt ignored. Any way I waited patiently and was finally asked if I could be helped so I said yeah I wanna place it to go order. I'm kind of driving down the road and I just wanna take it to go. That was no problem. I wandered around the property, which is really lovely while I waited for my chowder. My receipt came to approximately $37 for my to go order of only two servings of chowder. I served it that evening, along with a salad and some filet mignon in the comfort of our own accommodations. While the flavor was whatever I remembered, it was a great flavor. It's rich and it's definitely comfort food. However, the potatoes were all raw basically uncooked not at all what I would expect for a seafood chowder. While the potatoes should be not mushy, these were just nearly raw. After the anticipation of looking forward to enjoying and sharing this dish, I feel pretty disappointed. So I can cross this one off my foodie bucket list. Been there done that was just OK. #coastkitchen

TLDR: Nice romantic getaway…read more I don't normally review hotels. But the hotel is special, so I'm doing something special as well! I know I'm going to sound like a infomercial, but this place HAS EVERYTHING. It's got a GREAT restaurant (which I'll definitely review in a bit), they have a Record library (AND every room has a record player), they have board games, they have outdoor games, they have hiking trails, they have an Exercise room!, they have BEAUTIFUL scenery. About the only thing missing, is probably a pool. But given the fact that we came in the SUMMER and it was STILL very chilly, I doubt anyone would be swimming anyway. You can always just drive 15 minutes to the beach and swim in the ocean anyway. All the staff were super friendly, from the housekeepers to the front desk. I also like the fact the front desk guy even knew my name! Every time I talked to him, he always greeted me by name. Unfortunately, I wish I knew his name... but anyway that was a great touch. We chose this place because it was a pet-friendly place. The fee was a bit high, but it included a doggie bed and 2 bowls and some doggie treats. Too bad we have cats... heh. But the thought was really appreciated! It was clear the bedrooms have been remodeled, because even though the exterior looked old... the inside was anything but. Nice hardwood floors, an open bathroom with 3 swinging barn doors. We splurged and got the balcony with an ocean view. It was all soooo Romantic and lovely. Truly a special place to stay. Wifi was excellent, and they had a modern smart TV as well. They even provide complimentary pastries early in the morning, and cookies at night! Will definitely want to stay here again for a nice getaway! Only downside is getting here... involves some hairpin turns. My wife got carsick unfortunately.

I originally booked a room at Ocean Cove Lodge for May 25-26 because the Booking.com listing…read moreindicated that the room had a hot tub. Before my arrival, I spoke with the property by phone and was told that the room I had booked actually did not have a hot tub. Since having a hot tub was important to me and was one of the reasons I made the reservation, I had to book a different room at the same property for the same dates that did have one. I discussed the situation directly with Sam, the owner/manager, and he told me that he would resolve the issue and that the original reservation would be refunded. Booking.com subsequently told me that they could process the refund, but they needed written confirmation from the property stating that the refund was approved. Booking.com contacted the property requesting this confirmation, and I also contacted Sam myself. Unfortunately, despite Sam having already promised me that the issue would be resolved and the original booking refunded, he never followed through. I sent multiple emails asking him to simply confirm the refund to Booking.com, including follow-up messages after receiving no response. None of my emails were answered. This was not a case of me simply changing my plans or deciding that I no longer wanted the room. I rebooked because I was specifically informed by the property that the room I had originally reserved did not have the amenity it had been advertised with. I then relied on Sam's assurance that the original reservation would be refunded. Mistakes in online listings can happen. What made this experience particularly disappointing was the way it was handled afterward. Sam personally told me that he would take care of the problem, yet when Booking.com needed a simple written confirmation to issue the refund, he stopped responding altogether. I gave Sam and the property multiple opportunities to resolve this privately before writing a review. Unfortunately, my repeated attempts to contact him went unanswered. Based on my experience, I would be very cautious booking here. The inaccurate listing was frustrating, but the much bigger issue was the lack of follow-through, communication, and accountability after the owner/manager had personally promised to resolve the problem.

A special thank you to Alex, who helped me with my reservations and went above and beyond to accommodate me. Alex was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and made the entire experience that much better. The swimming pool and hot tub are amazing and the perfect places to unwind while enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The food and snacks were also excellent, and the wine was delicious! Downtown was a short walk (groceries, pizza, sandwiches, anything you need) and on the property there were kitchen spaces for us to hang out with plenty to do on the property. Rooms #11 & 12 were amazing. 11 is the larger room and larger bathroom with 2 full beds. 12 has a pullout sofa and full bed. Easily sleeps 2 couples in each room or mom and dad and 2 kids, but that's not what you're there for. Outside (if you take both spaces) is a large outdoor deck divided in half by a wall but connected so you can get from one room to the other. It has a shared yard beyond that. The landscaping is amazing. The property is on the river with tons of space to chill in the water. They have a deck for the facility and everyone can use it. It's shared so be prepared to be with other people but it is a place that seems to attract a good crowd. Everyone who we ran into there was nice. Another thing on the property they was cool was coffee, fresh ice cold filtered water, popcorn, and the front desk made the kids cotton candy daily. There is an ice machine there as well so you can roast in the sun and drink ice cold filtered water till you pop. That part of the place is in the outdoor kitchen which is community and has board games and seating for everyone. Outside the kitchen is bathrooms and seating areas. 2 fireplaces for s'mores and I believe a bbq pit (I can't remember we have a travel size Traegar they let us use) as well. If I were to get married or have a party it would 1000% be here. I think there is 12 rooms and I'd rent the whole spot for it without even thinking twice. Maybe bring extra help to keep the party rolling but this place legit is perfect for it. They also have like a VIP outdoor seating area we didn't end up getting but has a TV and some "roped off" area to hang out at that is an amazing setup. I can keep going but we loved this place. Even upon arrival our room had spiders have babies in the room (happens yall it's on the river and def outdoorsy) and my wife felt awkward asking because we didn't want to sound like the complaining people but we asked for a vacuum to get them out. The lady actually came in the room and helped us. 5 star stay. 5 star people, oh and being a licensed contractor and getting along with people who work, the people who kept the grounds were cool too. Super nice to our kids, and when you see the landscape, you can tell they are good at their job. Can't say enough good stuff. We will be back.

The property has direct access to the river, including a small dock where you can fish, which was a highlight for our family. There's also a lovely fire pit area, and the s'mores kits were such a fun touch for the kids. We also appreciated the complimentary coffee in the morning. The large grassy area was perfect for the kids to run around and play, and there are plenty of games available as well, including board games and Jenga. These little touches made it easy for the kids to stay entertained and enjoy the property. The rooms are on the smaller side, but having a mini refrigerator in each room was incredibly helpful when traveling with kids, especially with a larger family group. The owners were exceptionally nice, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. It's clear that they take a lot of pride in the property and genuinely care about creating a great experience for their guests. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back. It's a charming, family-friendly spot with thoughtful amenities and a beautiful setting right on the Russian River. It was especially nice having a place where our entire family could stay together and enjoy the property.
