I cannot recommend this boutique. They cancelled my appointment without my consent and kept my $165 cancellation fee. I had a bridal appointment scheduled at Madeleine's Daughter for 2pm on January 10, 2026. Earlier that day, I found my dress at another appointment. Out of courtesy, I called Madeleine's approximately two hours before my appointment to ask if it could be modified to look at Mother of the Bride or bridesmaids' dresses. They said no due to scheduling constraints. I then confirmed I would still attend my 2pm appointment--I wanted to look at reception dresses and continue shopping with my bridesmaids and mother. Instead of accepting this, the staff told me they were cancelling my appointment because I had said "yes" to a dress elsewhere. I was immediately charged the $165 cancellation fee. I did not cancel this appointment. I explicitly stated I would attend. They made the decision to cancel on me, then charged me as if I had cancelled on them. I emailed that same day requesting a refund, explaining that their cancellation policy should not apply when the boutique cancels on a willing customer. Their response was patronizing--they assumed continuing to shop would cause me "financial confusion" and offered store credit toward a veil instead of a refund. This "solution" requires me to spend additional money while they keep my $165. I have continued to request a refund with no response. Bottom line: They cancelled my appointment, not me, yet they kept my money. This is unfair business practice. My mother bought her wedding dress here, and I bought my prom dress here years ago. I'm deeply disappointed that this is how they treat loyal customers. read more

My friend had 2 appointments in 1 day, the first one at a different place and the second one at MD. She winded up saying 'yes' to a dress at the first place. Mind you, MD has a $165 deposit/fee for cancellations within 48 hours and no-shows. My friend was very honest and let MD know that she found a dress, but was wondering since her mom & bridal party were with her, if it would be possible to try on MOB or bridesmaid dresses, veils, or accessories. They said there wasn't availability. (Maybe I just don't know how bridal shops work, but isn't the stuff all already there? What's the problem with just looking?) Instead, they cancelled my friend's appointment and kept her $165. This was an appointment that she did not cancel herself, nor did she not no-show. There was no way that MD couldn't have come up with another solution that allowed her to shop and not lose $165. What should have been a perfect day with finding her dream dress was clouded over by this business's slimy practices. Sarah was excellent! I went for my first dress appointment and it was the absolute best experience I could have asked for. She was so strategic in figuring out which style, silhouette, fabric and neckline that I wanted/looked the best. I felt great coming out of the appointment even though I did not find my dress (I didn't expect to with my first appointment). I was told dresses range from $2000-$8500. The experience at this bridal shop was excellent. The shop is not great looking from the outside in a strip mall next to a Marine store and a Margarita bar( that's very convenient for after the appointment!) but once you walk in is surprisingly large and beautiful. Our consultant Maddie was so knowledgeable and kind and made the whole experience smooth and easy and fabulous. The only reason I'm taking a star off is because of all the shops we visit (3) this was the only one that makes the bride undress in front of her party and although they said the bride will have a robe and will be covered at all times I was feeling very uncomfortable for the bride to be put in this situation on front of everyone. They told us that we could step outside while she changed or we could wear eye masks. We chose to wear the mask but felt pretty ridiculous that such a big shop wouldn't provide privacy, a curtain or room divider to make everyone feel at ease. read more

My daughter and I had the most wonderful experience with Bailey M as our personal stylist! When we arrived at the bridal shop we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist and Bailey was completely organized and ready for our appointment. She had thoroughly researched my daughter's specifications as to what she was looking for in a wedding gown, and she had a wonderful selection put aside. My daughter loved every single one of Bailey M's choices, and she could have picked any one of them and been very happy. However, she ultimately chose the very first one that Bailey selected, and both of us immediately had the same instinctive feeling that it was the perfect gown! Bailey also found the perfect veil with delicate pearls to complement the beautiful dress, as well as gorgeous pearl earrings. The dress was a fairly reasonable cost because it was right off the rack and ready for purchase! We had the most lovely visit to Madeleine's Daughter--the staff was very friendly and the bridal shop is lovely and offers an extremely pleasant shopping experience. We feel extremely lucky that Bailey M was our personal stylist...she was friendly and outgoing, and very patient as my daughter tried on a wide selection of carefully-chosen dresses. Maybe it was just me, but I felt I was getting upsold multiple different times. My stylist pulled a few dresses clearly out of my budget. I know it's more common now to not have the bride look through gowns, but it left myself and my family sitting and waiting for up to 20 minutes at a time before she returned with 3 dresses. She was very nice and they have a beautiful selection. I walked out in love with a dress $2k over my budget...and didn't end up finding my dress here but if you have a higher budget this is a great spot! read more

I had the best time at Madeleine's Daughter! My stylist Rachel was so sweet and made the process absolutely amazing. She helped me pick out my perfect dress, and it was like she was inside my mind before I could even verbalize what I was looking for. I found my dress during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it's worth nothing that they had an amazing safety policy in place as well. I went with my mom and future mother-in-law and we all felt totally safe. However, they were also great about letting me view my dress without my mask (distanced of course!) so that I could see the full vision. I was excited to shop for a wedding dress at MD after hearing of this place in the past. Formerly it was located in downtown Portsmouth, however, now located in a strip mall next to a Planet Fitness and Margaritas, the vibes were a little off walking in the door. The shop is pretty inside, but the experience I was seeking was far from what I got. My "stylist" Raeanne started off okay, pulled some dresses that were great options and asked me to give feedback in order to narrow in on what I was looking for. This went well at first, but she became short and obviously annoyed by my feedback. For me, trying on wedding dresses was a special moment, especially with my mom and sisters by my side. She couldn't answer specific questions about the dresses, acted inconvenienced by questions, and responded to every request with "well we do have options, but they're out of your budget" which felt like a sales tactic to convince me to spend above my budget... which is not small by the way. The last dress I tried on was one that was "above my budget" but she said I could buy the sample dress that had been tried on by others for a lower cost. Upon entering the room with this dress, she dragged it on the floor, stepped on it with her boots, then let me try it on for 30 seconds before telling me to take it off so another person could try it on. We asked for just a few minutes to think which she would not allow. I understand there is a time limit to appointments, but there were no clocks in the room and I did not look at the time because I was in this moment of trying on wedding dresses for the first time! My family informed me later that they noticed the time and we left at 3:37. My 90 minute appointment started at 2pm so not that far off. The pictures that were taken of me show Raeanne looking at me in disgust in most of the dresses, in particular the last one which I loved. I have been trying to figure out what I did to make Raeanne so rude to me and my family, and as polite people the only thing I can think of is that we were taking too long. If time was the issue, I would have preferred she would have mentioned this and had a professional conversation which I would have been receptive to. Instead she was visibly frustrated and made me feel like an inconvenience. I did fall in love with a dress there but I would rather walk down the aisle in sweatpants than give my business to them. read more

My mother was struggling to find a mother of the groom dress until we heard about Madelines Daughter from one of her friends who's daughter had purchased her wedding gown from here. We made an appointment and crossed our fingers, hopping we would find a dress since the wedding was only a month and a half away. When we arrived, we were greeted at the front and ushered into our own private room where we met Ann Marie, our stylist for the day. She gave us warm toilettes and asked us a few questions about my moms style, her previous experience trying on gowns and details about the wedding. After she got all of the info she needed, she went into their stock room and we waiting for her to return with some options. She brought a plethora of choices, ranging in style, color and material. She let us know that, although some of the styles might not be what we had in mind, she needed to narrow down the specific style my mom was going for. Smart! She even brought a dress that my mom had my eye on previously, that they happened to also carry in the store. Some of the dresses we looked at were not what we were anticipating, but they fit my mom perfectly, and opened our eyes to new suggestions. After a few rounds of dresses, which Ann Marie made very fun, lighthearted and stress free, my mom found a dress that she loved. It was the right level of jewels, color and fit. Ann Marie was fantastic to work with, and really elevated our experience. We had been to 3 other dress shops, but none compared to the level of care and comfort that Madelines Daughter and Ann Marie brought to the table. I had a wonderful experience picking out my wedding dress from Madeline's Daughter. After going to a big name wedding store, I did not feel too hopeful in looking good in a wedding dress. The big name store does not cater to large chested women, but Madeline's Daughter sure does! I have never felt more eretheral and beautiful trying on their dresses. My stylist, Amanda, was kind and extremely helpful in bringing in dresses to try on that fit my style vision and that perfectly suited my body. It was hard not to want to purchase multiple gowns! I can't say enough amazing things about this bridal shop. I literally felt like the most special person when I was looking for my dress and even since finding my dress. Every time I go in for various appointments the Madeline's daughter crew is always so welcoming and inviting and willing to help me with whatever I need. They have the most amazing most gorgeous selection of dresses that you could ask for. Literally you don't need to go anywhere else other than here. I would say that the dresses are expensive but at the same time I really only looked at dresses in the price range that I was comfortable looking it. I'm sure there is a dress here for a literally anybody with almost any price range. They are actually currently having a sale with massive discounts on many dresses. I'm not even going to look and see if mine is in there because I'll be so upset if I could've bought it for cheaper. LOL anyways I'm absolutely in love with my dress and my veil which I found there with the help of the Madeline's daughter crew. They also have an amazing men's section and bridesmaid dress section. We have an appointment in a week or two where we will be meeting with them to design the look of our whole bridal party. They set the design process up in a way that allows you to really see exactly what they will look like side-by-side. You won't find an experience like this anywhere else. One thing that I loved was the private room and personal stylist that I was assigned. The place was buzzing with young teenage girls and their mothers as they were looking to find that perfect dress for their proms. Personally, I was thinking that it was a bit early for dress shopping for proms, however my wife later corrected me by asking me to look beyond my maleness and reach for my feminine side. Proms mean a lot too teenagers and in the world of today it is a pretty important part of growing up. However, I digress from the reason for visiting Maddy's Daughter in the first place, my wife's dress. Anyway, my wife was able to find a large assortment of possibilities and the staff on site were fantastic. Madelines Daughter charged me a $150 late fee when cancelling my appointment 36 hours in advance. I understand that there is a 48 hour cancellation policy, however, I figured they would be understanding as I found a dress 36 hours before and called them immediatley. I even asked if I were to fill this appointment time with another person if I could have a refund, and they declined. I understand that there are policies in place, however, this feels like a way to take money from individuals without any empathy. I am a student and $150 is a massive amount to me, and this is a very difficult thing to swallow, especially if this appointment time were taken by another bride. read more

Do NOT use Madeline's daughter for suits. As a groomsman who lives an hour and a half away from the place and couldn't easily make the journey up there, I followed their directions and sent my exact measurements (the same ones that were perfect for a suit I purchased just weeks before from Men's Wearhouse), and they messed the sizing up. The groom even went to Madeleines Daughter in person and got measured BY Madeleine Daighter employees, but they STILL messed his suit up as well. The groom ended up needing to pivot, abandoning his Madeline's Daughter suit and went to Men's Wearhouse last minute where they saved the day and set him up with one that fit well. Also important to mention that Madeleines Dauhter is "appointment-only"-- but have limited hours and are not open on Sundays which makes it hard for anyone that doesn't live in the Portsmouth area to get there. I needed to take a day off work to make a special trip up there because even my PICK UP TIME was appointment-only, and on the day before the rehearsal. And, wait for it: my suit still did not fit. They had the audacity to tell me they would overnight the correct size jacket for me, but that I had to PAY 40 dollars for them to overnight it. I had to pay 40 more dollars for THEIR mistake? AND on top of all that, after paying for it to be overnighted, we drove an hour and 40 minutes the next day (in the opposite direction of the wedding venue) to pick it up at 1 PM (the time they said it would "definitely" be there by) ... and the jacket WAS NOT THERE. They "could not find the UPS number" and were "trying to get in touch with UPS." To her credit, the employee was very nice, apologized, and drove it to us at the venue that evening... but a heads-up phone call in the morning before we started driving would've been thoughtful to say the least, and saved a lot of wasted time, aggravation, mileage, and gas money. So, I recommend you just go to Men's Wearhouse and save yourself the trouble. read more

Visited this bridal shop with my future DIL, we were so excited to help her choose her wedding gown . Awkward that she had to try on dresses in the same room we were sitting in . Very exposed . Our assistant was competent and helpful . When she thought she had chosen the perfect dress, she was ready to purchase but a little hesitant , she asked if she could decide in 24 hrs. Was informed if she waited it would be 10% more to wait and purchase ! What ??? This was such a sales tactic. She purchased under duress. And unfortunately decided to cancel. My Bestfriend, mother and I had a great experience wedding dress shopping at MD. We appreciated the cleanliness of the shop, the website was super informative so we knew exactly what to expect the day of our appointment. We came on a Monday morning at 10:00am with Cassie and loved that the shop was relatively quite & we could really focus on the dresses! Happy to say the bride found her gown and it is just stunning. Cassie was genuine and super helpful. She respected the budget and truly tried to learn as much as she could about the bride to help find the perfect dress. We plan to make an appointment for maid of honor dress as well as mother of the bride dress once the brides gown arrives & will absolutely request Cassie. Highly recommend this boutique. We drove up from just north of Boston and it was absolutely worth the drive. Fair warning they don't do alterations on site which I know may make some brides nervous but for us it's okay especially because we are about an hour away! read more

I went here knowing it's a very upscale wedding dress boutique. I was uncomfortable changing in front of my entourage, leaving me no time to process/think with every dress. I forget my consults name but she was nice, although i felt very rushed. I told her I wanted only sleeves (with a pretty high budget) and it seemed like they didn't have many options. I ended up trying on my dream Hayley Paige dress and it seemed like it was stuffed in the back and looked NOTHING like the picture. It was the strangest thing. I did appreciate the fact that we could take photos in every gown unlike other boutiques. I almost found my dress and asked to see the gown with a veil but was denied because we were out of time. I would not recommend this place to anyone for bridal purposes. Too expensive, not the best customer service- I picked up my dress from CT, where I live, on the way to Maine and there was a snag on it (quality control obviously missed the mark on my dress). When I brought it back they claimed it was fixed (we'll see if it was), and now I have to pay for the shipping fee for it to come back to my home. What their web site states is so not true and should be deleted: "since each piece is picked based on individual body measurements, everyone in the party can have a superior fit and look amazing. This is one of the major benefits of renting instead of buying a suit that is one-look-one-size fits all." Months before the wedding, my husband went in for measurements. The stylist was truly interested in giving him her best service. She was wonderful. When it arrived, the shoulder pad was two inches beyond his shoulder. The girl there that day said that there are no alterations on the tux rentals. When my husband showed her that he couldn't move his arms forward in the shirt she told him emphatically, "Yes, it does fit, you wouldn't want to wear a larger size, it would look funny". She was very defensive. My husband was going to buy a shirt that fit him but when he went in the following day to pick up the others' tuxes and a shirt for another groomsman (his didn't fit either) the original stylist was there with a different shirt for my husband, "They gave you a slim fit instead of a regular". At the ceremony, a very fit-and-trim groomsman was walking stiff legged up the stairs. The pants were tight around his thighs that he felt they would tear if he bent his knees. He wasn't able to make the two hour drive to Portsmouth for a fitting before the wedding. The warehouse is out of state. I don't believe they could have done anything for him. I never mentioned our experience to the bride but she said, "Had I known that they couldn't try on and pick up the tuxes till the Thursday before the wedding, we wouldn't have rented them from there". read more

I got measured here for a bridesmaid dress (after having to make a second trip all the way here because they misbooked our appointment and didn't have time to measure us on the day we picked out dresses). I get my dress and it's about 2 sizes too small. Nothing I can do about it since it took 5 months for the dress to come in and the wedding was a month away. I even tried it on in front of the lady who measured me and she tells me it's meant to be stretched out and ruched. No, it's actually not. The one I tried on was not and I am not a large person and I definitely haven't gained any weight. This is not comfortable to wear and for $315 dollars I would have liked a dress that fit properly. read more

BUYER BEWARE! In March 2019, I went to Madeline's Daughter for Bridesmaid dress shopping. We decided on a dress, and were all measured there by our stylist. Through the process they suggested a dress size based on their sizing chart; I was told the size I ordered was to my largest measurement, however was never shown the chart. Fast forward to July 2019-- I receive my dress and it does not fit. I then check my measurements from my bill and the incorrect size was suggested by my stylist, and I should have been one size larger. I called the store and immediately drove the 1.5 hours there per their request. They were able to get it zippered, but it was extremely tight and the back bunched up due to the improper sizing, I voiced my concerns and they mentioned it is fixable through alterations. At this point, I am upset at the fact I paid $275 for a dress that does not fit, and head out to go to a tailor to figure out alterations. I got it priced out and called Madeline's Daughter to kindly asked them to consider paying for the alteration costs associated with the dress being the incorrect size (and not associated with hemming, etc.), to which they declined. Throughout the process they did offer me a size 18 that could be delivered to the store 2 weeks before the wedding; although an alternative, this is still not the correct size that should have been ordered in the first place and would need considerable alterations to fit, not even considering the alteration timeframe concern. They also offered for me to take the 1.5 hour drive to Portsmouth (again!) so I could get a $25 discount on their alteration costs. Although these are kind offerings, neither in my mind were an acceptable solution to the issue. Although they were respondent throughout the process, I was made to feel like I did something wrong and this was my fault. This added stress could be easily avoided, and I would strongly suggest any bride or bridesmaid to look elsewhere! read more

I had always heard of brides finding "the dress" on their first appointment...but never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that this would be the case for ME! A curvy bride with a budget! I had a picture of what I was hoping for, spoke about the ceremony, and blushed about my pricetag fears. But apparently that's all they needed! Away they scampered, returning with about 6 dresses ("the one" was the third I tried on). The sample dress sizes are itty bitty (maybe a 6) and I thought I'd feel like Godzilla in a gown, but Brandie made me feel SO comfortable and myself that I felt like I was walking on air. The gown I fell in love with: Encore; Barletta style 6717E Ivory lace, crew neck, elbow length sleeve, circular skirt (around $700). They hooked me up (literally) with *foundation garments* (a fancy word for "serious structure to keep it together") and even had a recommended seamstress (she got me in and out with a great turnaround, great product, and a reasonable bill). Now two years later I'm returning with my best friend for HER gown and my Maid of Honor dress and who's helping us? .....BRANDIE! YES! She's such a bubbly and wonderful person! Gown: acquired. Maid of Honor dress: a total success. And who knew that if you purchase your gown from MD your beau gets to saunter up the aisle in a fabulous rented suit....ga-ga-gratis! Top that off with 10% off for your attendants' outfits and you really can't go wrong. Allllllllllll of the stars, Madeleine's Daughter! Your shop is beautiful! Not only does she have an amazing, bright attitude that makes you feel completely at ease during a stressful time, but she is also INCREDIBLY skilled as a stylist. She hand-selected dresses for me to try on in sequence so we could strategically narrow down to my perfect, dream dress. She took all the stress out of the process - I found my dress within 3 hours! I got my dress here, but only after I'd been to 4 other stores, who let me actually browse through dresses instead of stuffing me in a room, and I'd looked at their site so I knew the dress I wanted. The woman in the tux rental side was extremely rude to us and talked down to me over not having our appointment for my fiancés fitting booked when 5 months prior they'd given us a date--I guess that date was just a "save the date". I hate that they don't let you look at any of their dresses and they have a shit selection of tuxes. They've been extremely rude to me on more than one occasion. Just avoid here. read more

Ashley Cunningham was my stylist and she was incredible - I felt like she understood what I wanted and she made my guests and me feel comfortable the entire time. I actually didn't like my dress when she first brought it in. But as soon as I tried it on I fell in love. You have to keep an open mind! Thank you Ashley for finding my dress! What's great about MD is instead of sifting through racks of dresses, your stylist brings dresses in for you based on what you have described you are looking for and your budget. My budget was $1500 and my dress ended up only being $850 and I felt like Ashley was genuinely happy for us for finding such a good deal and saving us some money. I also ordered my veil from them the same day (it cost about $350 but you can definitely find more affordable ones). I ended up going back to MD to find my bridesmaids dresses and that process was just as seamless. My girls tried on several different dresses before we landed on an amsale dress - and they all got 15% off since I had gotten my gown at MD. I can't say enough good things about Madeleine's daughter! Despite this boutique's reputation, I wasn't amazed. I was ready for this to be my last stop for my wedding gown, but the associate who greeted us didn't seem enthused to welcome us. The dressing rooms and robes are lovely, and Alison was very kind and considerate. However, I hate that you can't peruse the racks to see what stands out. Some of the dresses she chose were decent, but most of them weren't what I wanted. You're confined to your dressing room space and not offered to walk out into the open space toward the front where there's natural light and accessories. I would not recommend this place to my friends getting married. I think it's important to see the products and selection, especially since you might be pulled toward something unexpected and it's such a substantial and crucial decision. I'm glad I went with my gut and kept looking rather than purchasing here. read more

I would highly recommend Madeleine's Daughter for any bridal needs! I found my dress here and it was a wonderful experience. Cassie was great, listened to what I wanted, and really helped me narrow down how I wanted to look and feel on my wedding day. She kept within my budget and made me feel so comfortable during the process. I also went back to Madeleine's Daughter and did a final touches appointment to pick out my veil and jewelry - which I highly recommend as it was great to re-try on the dress without the pressure from the first appointment and pick out the accessories! I would have given a lot more stars but the customer service was terrible. Even if you already spent $5000+ at the store, they treat you with attitude. This review is separate from consultant, Brandi, who was actually very nice, personable and knowledgeable. Her team is the opposite. I was charged $50 for "wasting" the seam stresses's time when I actually had a scheduled fitting and drove 2 hours in rush hour traffic from Boston. Fast forward, back in Boston, I ended up paying half as much for alterations and went to a very expensive seam stress. At Madeline's D, I refused to continue paying excessive costs for poor attitudes and service, so I signed out my veil and dress. No one told me once it leaves the store, they can't do anything about it. Nor did I get a copy of the contract. I called the store to ask about my veil because it was yellow and crumpled into a small ziplock bag. I asked if they could do anything about it which they couldn't per the contract. So now I have a $800 veil I absolutely hate and now spent over $6000 on a dress and accessories to a store that really knows how to skimp on customer service, quality, and professionalism. Absolute rip off. They should focus on customer service, because that's what there business is based on. I would only recommend this place to buy a gown you know you want and just don't want to pay taxes. Don't expect them to be nice if you're not dropping at least $5000 at your visits. Avoid getting alterations done there!!! You can find more experienced and better customer service for a lot less money. read more

I'm planning a destination wedding for next summer and have had a difficult time finding a dress that would be light and cool without being too plain. After an unsuccessful trip to Camilla's in Arlington, my future MIL and I made the hour drive up to Portsmouth to check out their selection. I was immediately impressed by their customer service. While Camilla's was very much "fend for yourself," my consultant (Cynthia) at MD was very helpful and hands-on and made me feel very special. After listening to what type of wedding we were having and my likes and dislikes in terms of styles of dresses, she brought me four dresses to try on and number three was "the one"! I cried when I saw myself in it, and I hadn't come anywhere close to having that reaction with any of the other dresses I'd tried. A couple of things to keep in mind. MD will not allow you to photograph the dress until you decide to buy it, which might be a problem for brides whose families live far away--especially if there are several dresses you love. Also, be sure to check to see if there are any incentives they will offer for putting down a deposit that day. I found out later that a friend of mine got 10% off her dress a few weeks earlier when she put down a deposit, but because I didn't even try to haggle, they didn't offer anything. read more
