I'm passing through. When I came through last week, I ate at Don Patron's a few miles away. I enjoyed that, but it didn't prompt me to write a review. Madero Cantina Norwin also had mostly decent reviews, so I gave it a try. I sat at the very nice bar. The atmosphere is modern, not trying to look like Tijuana, with clear background music that isn't so loud that I couldn't hear people across the bar talking. What I'm going to say might sound contradictory. My earlier meal was closer to the Mexican food I was used to in Southern California. But not exceptional. As a vegetarian, I usually start with cheese enchiladas as a way to judge a Mexican restaurant. The service was excellent, and they are definitely vegetarian friendly. Unlike "genuine" Mexican food, their refried beans are vegetarian, without the traditional lard. Their Spanish rice isn't vegetarian friendly (chicken stock used) but they have a vegetarian alternative rice. When they cook for a vegetarian, they use a different grill, so your food isn't cooked in meat grease. I know this because Jake, who served me, covered it all as soon as I mentioned that I was vegetarian. When the food arrived it looked great, and it tasted great as well. If you're looking for genuine Mexican with lard in the beans, this might not be the best local option. But I really enjoyed my meal here, and recommend it highly! read more

Our party of 5 each had drinks- cranberry margarita was super tasty as was the Mexican mule - which I tried. We started with 2 order of the El Trio with chips - guacamole, salsa & queso For dinner - 2 of our party had very large Burritos & myself & the rest of our group had various tacos, Traditional fish tacos, Mahi Mahi & chicken. We did purchase the triple sauce with chips and it was very good. The tortilla soup was delicious and different. Very filling. My beef empanadas were flavorless. No seasoning on beef. Walking inside it is very clean, beautiful interior and looks newly renovated. I was waited on immediately and quickly placed my order. I had a small strawberry margarita and a Madero combo. The margarita was not too sweet and had a delicious flavor. For the Madero Combo I chose chorizo. Everything was amazing! The taco was out of this world, and I love that I get a variety with the entre. I 100% recommend Madero Cantina to anyone for lunch or dinner, I think it would make for a great social out with friends or even a 1 on 1 with that special someone. read more

Absolutely disgusted of this place! No free chips to start so that's a slap in the face. I then got a cheese quesadilla and was told they ran out of cheese and that's why it was taking so long. They decided to sneak behind my back and run to aldi to grab cheese and it was the most disappointing meal Of my life. I could've made a better meal myself at home. Our group of 22 made an appointment the day before and they were very accommodating. They were able to give us one of the rooms and handle separate checks. The service was great! The food was delicious and their burritos are STUFFED with meat. The elote was very good and I'd recommend to get the one on the ear of corn. The space was very nice and relaxing for the group and most of the people have been there before so it's a group favorite. There aren't that many places out in the Irwin area except for fast food so this is a nice gem. read more

Not at all what I expected, truly the worst Mexican I've had in this area. My enchiladas (ground beef) were ruined by the addition of chopped, uncooked onions on top (odd culinary choice). The rice was ok, not spectacular but not bad. I love refried beans but they truly tasted like they came from a can--not sure if they do or not but they were all mush and little authentic flavor. Our basket of chips were not burnt but were what I'd consider way overcooked. The salsa was good. My husband got steak tacos and ordered them "Tex Mex style" on corn tortillas. We got. Them on flour tortillas but he ate rice and beans first and didn't notice until our waiter was busy with new tables so he just ate them. He did like them though, he said they were delicious. It was relatively empty when we arrived at 5:45, I should've taken that as a sign. It did start to get busy when we were leaving but seemed to be mostly families with kids and a big table of kids that may have been a birthday party or maybe a sports team. read more

Loved this place! I recently visited with a friend and I cannot believe I never knew about this place before. You must get the margarita flight. I've seen a lot of beer flights but never a margarita one. Not only is it colorful and pretty to look at, the flavors are amazing; blue guava watermelon, something citris, Pina Collota and strawberry are the four flavors. All are wonderful and could be enjoyed as a single large drink. The flavors are robust without being overly sweet. My friend loves the white sangria and highly recommends it. The chorizo queso is the best I've ever tasted. The chips served with it are freshly made plentiful. My friend enjoyed the shrimp tacos and I had chicken fajitas with all the fixins. The flour tortillas are made there - you can tell - they are fresh and served warm. The skillet brought to the table was sizzling hot and the veggies were done perfectly: a bit dark and cooked enough for the onion to taste great. Our server, Eli, was not only attentive, he was friendly and fun. He patiently accommodated us girls as we sat and talked a lot and for a long time. Staying at the Little Boston Inn on the Yock trail (both highly recommended!). Needed dinner on a Monday evening. Nothing close by looked great, but this one had four and a half stars. How bad could it be? Server Juliana was pretty good. Everything else was aggressively meh. Guac was tasteless, on wildly unremarkable chips. Got the tilapia with Veracruz sauce. Tilapia was good. Sauce was an ok tomato base ruined by waaay too many giant lousy cheap olives. Made the whole dish taste like ... giant cheap olives. Tone it down, all y'all! I dunno. I hate giving a mediocre review based on one outing, especially when there are so many good ones. But I'm thinking this is a great place for locals (go there, all y'all!), but not a good foodie spot. This is their second location of the same name. The menu offers a lot of vegetarian options which was one of the main reason we chose to come here. The space is also much larger than their original establishment with an extensive bar sitting as the focal point of the restaurant. We were quickly seated. Our server was nice but kind of awkward like she appeared to be new yet this may have just been how she was. Not overly interested and more shy than anything. We ordered a few drinks, and when in Rome, I decided on the jalapeno marg. Additionally I ordered the veggie tacos, they came with two sides, street corn and cilantro rice. Our drinks were served and I wasn't overly happy with mine. It was so sweet for a jalapeno margarita. There was like on or two slices of jalapeno floating under the ice and it was rimmed with some spicy salt but that was about it for the spice. I just tasted overly sweet (most likely from a store bought mix) regular margarita. I ended up giving the drink to my husband cause I just couldn't finish it. Now the food came and honestly it is pretty good. My tacos were prepared with a nice mix of veggies though they could have had a little less green pepper as I'm not a huge fan of them, but otherwise tasty. We ordered chips and salsa and had to ask for hot sauce to jazz it up as it was quite mild and a little bland. The cilantro rice was tasty, could definitely detect the cilantro and lime flavors, but the star, the delicious star was the corn! I think if I had a do over I would order two! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Madero Cantina in Norwin. My friend and I stopped here, mainly to grab a margarita! I had a frozen mango margarita and my friend had a strawberry cucumber margarita. They come in a small or large size. Depending on what you're looking for, the small was an excellent amount. We ordered the trio to start. The salsa was amazing. The guacamole was missing something, maybe a bit of salt? The queso was good, it had diced tomatoes at the bottom of it. I personally enjoy a little heat, and would have liked a spicier queso. For our meals, we both ordered the Burrito Isla. My friend had steak and I had chicken. The menu had so many different options, I would like to try something new next time I visit! read more

I believe Modero's Cantina's is family owned, not exactly sure, however, they're alway's so friendly and remember you and your family, your food preferences, even try seat you were you usually go, however you may need reservations, they get very busy especially in the evening's, also offer take out, we're so fortunate to have this place in the North Huntington area. read more

Wow, what a find! Just traveling by and stopped in for an early dinner. The burrito was simply fantastic. Ask for a side of the homemade hot sauce. You won't regret it. Super experience. Met up with out of town friends who wanted to check it out. We were reluctant having had a "less than" experience in Madero's other location. What a nice place this was. I like this places drinks and am not necessarily certain about this places ships and salsa because it's a bit expensive for what I'm getting. I got like 20 chips and struggled sharing it, but it's the cross I bare. Im a fan of sitting down and having a drink and this place does a good job of it. Not a fan of the prices, but right now everything costs a mortgage payment! Trying it out during a Happy Hour is better than Applebees. Let me just start by saying I'm Mexican and this was not really good. I ordered pastor tacos and the meat is marinated and supposed to be red, it wasn't. Then I ordered spicy salsa and I was charged for it without a warning it's a scoop of salsa come on! They are trying to be a premier trendy Hispanic restaurant, but it's a bit of a miss. The atmosphere is maybe a little better that your typical strip mall Mexican but the food really isn't. Pallets on the walls and charging 5 for chips and salsa doesn't make you Tako or Rococo's Tacos. It makes you pseudo upscale with an expensive valuation. No salsa picante here, no hot sauce? Service was on the slow end 1 hour for lunch. It's not bad but you could just cross 30 and get a better meal faster IMO for less money. I appreciate the effort the area could support it but it's only half way there like most places in the area. read more

Good Mexican food in a convenient location right off the turnpike and route 30. We were seated right away and greeted by our server immediately. The food was really good, especially the mole and the chips with queso dip. One star off for the pricing which we felt was higher than other similar places, but is probably tied to the very generous portions. We just ate lunch at Madero Cantina in Irwin. The food is excellent and the service top notch. The dining room is modern remodeled with booths and tables. It's not dark, either, but well lighted. The food is authentic and very delicious. I had the cheese enchiladas and my husband had a combo platter. The chips and salsa are $3 extra, but the chips are homemade as is the salsa, with a rich, fresh tomato flavor. They have recently opened and are Covid clean. My boyfriend and I were driving around trying to figure out where to eat dinner and this place looked so fancy and cute so we thought we would give it a shot. It is high end Mexican food, so if you come here you are getting great quality at a slightly higher price tag than your average Chili's. We shared the chips and queso for the appetizer and boy was it good! Super chunky and a tad spicy, but so delicious with the home made fried tortilla chips. Was really looking forward to going after seeing the Valentine's Day flight. 5 reasons not to go. 1. Walked in and stood there for two minutes worth out being acknowledged and when they finally did they asked us to give them a minute which wasn't an issue until he forgot about us, l multiple staff members walked past and didn't acknowledge us until the guy remembered us 15 minutes later. 2. Inquired about the flight and was told they weren't doing flights even though the table diagonal from us had one. Mid meal the waiter informed us that they were doing flights after watching three different flights be ordered an sent to table. 3. Order a margarita instead and got strawberry flavored waters with tequila at best 4. Food was armature at best. 5. Added queso to the order even though it was clear we never got any. We are over the moon excited about Madero Cantina coming to our neighborhood. Mexican is my favorite food so I have been to every place around the area. This is by far the most authentic Mexican food around. I absolutely love their food. I can't even tell you which is my favorite. I started off with the fajitas, which are so amazing that I got stuck on them and sometimes I eat them twice a week. Then I thought to myself that I have to try other dishes. So on to the enchiladas love them. My hubby got the most amazing dish, Velada which is served in a pineapple shell filled with chicken, steak, fish, shrimp, chorizo, peppers, onions, cilantro and cheese and it comes table side and the set it on fire. It is AMAZING. It is served with shells but my husband eats it with a fork right out of the pineapple. Should I even start on the margaritas? One if my favorite places for original on the rocks with salt and to top it off they are being earth conscious by not having plastic straws, if you need a straw you can purchase one and the money goes to a nonprofit to help our earth. I will sum up my review by giving a shout out to the manager Cyra. I can honestly say that we have never felt more at home in any restaurant that we have ever been to. She is so attentive and friendly. She is always there which makes you think she would be over being nice but she always greets us with a smile and makes sure everything was perfect. 5 stars welcome to our neighborhood read more

This is a wonderfully new experience in North Huntingdon. All of your favorite Mexican dishes but everything taste fresh! It is like going to your Mexican grandma's house for dinner. From the salsa and chips to the fried ice cream it all has a fresh, home made taste.
