Efficient service, nice selection and large portion sizes. You can't ask for much more than that. There is a large amount of seating in the restaurant that essentially split into two sides - the side with the bar (and a row of booth seating) and the other side with booth and table seating. It is chock full of every type of Mexican decor that you could think of. Sombreros, soccer jerseys, palm trees, lights. A bit kitschy, but really works well for the space. Service is always on point. Attentive and informative without being intrusive. Mexican menus always seem a bit overwhelming because of the sheer amount of choices, but I like that they have pictures of many of their entrees on theirs which does make it easier to decide. I've eaten here on many occasions and tried things ranging from enchiladas mole, chimichangas, tacos and one of the specialty chicken dishes. They were all filled with flavor (and I usually had enough to have leftovers to take home). I like that they have non alcoholic frozen drink options available and their margaritas are quite tasty. When we arrived and went in, 6pm on a Sunday, it must have been 80 degrees inside. Extremely uncomfortable. Salsa was awful. Once the waiter heard we wanted water instead of $3 soft drinks that was the end of our good service. Wife's quesadilla was bizarre. 4 large pieces of chicken - not shredded or chopped, tossed in a large tortilla and barely no cheese and folded close, not melted closed as normal, looking more like a burrito. It did not resemble any quesadilla we've ever ordered. Taco Bell ones look better. It didn't taste good either. My fajitas were passable, although it was a little less chicken on the portion than I get elsewhere. Total bill was around $40 for 2 of us. We won't be back. read more

Bland and boring sum up the food. The salsa seems like they opened a can of tomato sauce and is totally bland. Totally uninspired. Mad Mex near Ikea had some excellent Mexican food and so far that has been the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Western PA. read more

Been too long since our last meal here. Made amends at lunchtime with an excellent mini burrito. Service is always prompt and friendly. This is one of the better Mexican restaurants in western Pennsylvania. They are along US 22 at the far end of the southern strip mall with lots of parking. read more

I can't believe this place has been around as long as it has and their website has so few pictures, and the ones they have are blurry like taken with a 2010 Razr flip phone! The food is good enough, and the specials are what make it worth going. They really should focus on their online menu--like descriptions and pictures and PRICES , not just lists of what they have. Who wants to go when you see an add in the Local Smart Shopper for BOGO meals and such but you can't even find out how much food costs in the first place? Went here on a date at her suggestion. End enjoyed the chips that were placed on our table soon after we sat down. The salsa had quite a kick. We got queso - which was very runny (we had to let it run of the chip like water from a pitcher to avoid getting it on everything) but was okay when it finally stopped running off of the tortillas. I had the Mexico City enchiladas. The cheese one was my favorite. The proteins were plentifully stuffed in the enchilada shells. The rice helped calm the spice of the salsa on top. I always liked this restaurant and the food they serve. A bit disappointed on my most recent visit. Our server wasn't very friendly. I always give people benefit of the doubt, in case, they are dealing with difficulties. We were seated, drink orders taken and then waited to give our dinner choices. He returned and took the order; then disappeared for the next 30 minutes. Suddenly, he appeared to drop our check off...without asking if we wanted drink refills, no checking if the food was all right, or if we wanted dessert. I had to flag down another server for a drink refill. Husband wanted another margarita, but after waiting so long, he changed his mind. No idea what the issue was for the employee. He has worked there a long time. He just didn't seem interested in providing any of his customers any interaction until time to pay the check. Food was excellent, by the way. read more

We go every Tuesday. Sometimes it is crazy busy sometimes not. I almost didn't want to write this because I don't want it to be more crowded than it is lol. Out of towners here. Visiting in laws. Found our selves here 3 times in 1 week. Love the chips & salsa. Chips fresh & crispy & the salsa not spicy. The way i like it. We had eaten here before with an out of town visitor a few years ago and then forgot it was here. So we stopped in again. I ordered a grande meal with five components and started on one of them. A flavor explosion! I had my fiancée try it and she thought it was delicious. Turns out it was a Chile Relleno (how had I never had one before?), and we later ordered 4 to go. I guess I have to say this place was about what I thought it would be but was just intriguing enough to try. I met a good friend here for dinner and drinks. The parking situation is a bit terrible. They share a lot with another restaurant and nail salon, that's probably too small for just one of these businesses let alone three. Most people have to park in the movie theaters lot and walk over. The inside is rather typical of your Americanized Mexican style restaurant. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender seemed nice but also seemed to speak minimal English. We were very quickly given chips and salsa, and honestly, they were probably the most flavorful thing I had that evening. On special was, what is called, a Bulldog. This is a margarita with a pony bottle corona in it. The margarita's came out of a slushy style machine and the one on the rocks was just held in a larger dispenser. I wasn't impressed by the pre-mix beverages and assumed them to be way sugary (I also witnessed one of the workers dumping a large plastic premix into the machine so I was glad I steered clear). I decided on a Mexican beer Modelo and though I asked for a small I was charged a large, which makes sense because I thought wow this is a small?! No it wasn't, again language barrier. Being off meat I was very limited to what I could order to begin with. We intently perused the menu over a few times. There were just a few shrimp dishes that I was deciding between and ultimately picked the shrimp taco's (three for $13.00) we chatted while I sat back trying to down this not so flavorful beer. Food comes, and it was really basic. Three flour tortillas, about three to four pieces of shrimp per shell, white cheese slightly melted and lettuce. I took a bite. It was really bland. I threw some salsa on it but still very mediocre. My friend seemed equally unimpressed and we both agreed that there would probably not be a return visit. At least my company was good! So 20+later I had a not so great beer and tasteless tacos. Meh waste of my calories for the day. Typically this is why I don't eat Mexican food. I find it flavorless. Probably just a western PA problem but unfortunately that is all I know of this elusive style of food. read more

I went to Picante Grill for the first time. I ordered the shrimp burrito and one vegetable burrito. I ate only half of the shrimp burrito. I could not sleep all night. Severe heart burn and vomiting all night plus diarrhea. I had a terrible night. My son had stomach issues too. Never going back to this place. We've only been here once, so could've just been a bad day for them but our visit was pretty rough. First, they had a mixup and another server grabbed my order and gave it to another table. They brought out our other 3 plates and explained the error. It already took a pretty long time for those plates to come out, and my replacement burrito took at least another 15 minutes so by the time it arrived my friends were done. I ordered what I believe they called their burrito especial. It's a $13 burrito with grilled steak. I asked if they could add cheese, which they did. The steak was just a very thin slice of beef that was overcooked and uncut. Just 1 thin slab of overdone steak. Weird. There was gobs of thickly shredded soft, but cold white cheese in the burrito. It was pretty gross. And when I got the bill they charged a couple extra bucks for the cheese. So at $15 not only was this the most expensive burrito I've ever had in my life (I've had literally thousands growing up in CA) it was also the worst. The server was nice and friendly. So they had that going for them. But we won't be back and I can't imagine they last long serving food like that. read more
