We were in the Madison area around lunchtime and asked someone for a recommendation. Madison Family Restaurant was the perfect spot for lunch. We ordered 2 lunch specials, meatloaf with fresh grilled green beans and a cup of soup, $10.99. The other order was a tuna melt that came with coleslaw, salad and cup of soup for $9.99. So much food we had to take some home. Our server was Julia, she was very personable, attentive, told us all about the restaurant and even brought us a sample of the daily soup special, homemade broccoli cheddar. It was delicious! The food came out quick, hot and fresh. The owner came over to our table to welcome us. She was very gracious and friendly. I found this gem of a local family restaurant in Madison, oh. Don't let the outside fool you, the inside of the restaurant is very nice, clean and inviting. I ordered the rib eye steak with onions and mushrooms, it came with a soup ( I chose the Italian meatball soup) salad bar, choice of potato and vegetable. The portions were large size, and the food was excellent! Everything tasted homemade! I couldn't finish my meal I was so full ! My server was friendly and made sure I was never waiting for a refill! I would recommend this restaurant for a taste of home at a reasonable price !!! I will definitely be coming back here, I want to try breakfast!!!!! read more

Saturday is prime run very flavorful and tender very good 14oz for 10 bucks got it with eggs and toast. The menu is very robust with many options for pretty much anyone. It seemed unreasonable due to three other parties at different tables. This is an affordable diner for breakfast. Nothing special; just standard American breakfast. If your looking for better, cook it yourself or be willing to spend more. This place is not the cleanest, but the booths and seating are new, the facilities are decent, and the wait staff are friendly. I only come on the weekends. I stopped by Friday and decided to try their fish fry. So here's what I got...ayce fish, choice of potatoes or rice, choice of vegetables, choice of soup, garlic bread and the salad bar. We generally come after Sunday service and enjoy the food and quick service if I could give three and a half stars I would. I like the fact they have some home made items such as the homemade corn beef hash and chorizo hash. On our last visit I got the chorizo hash with eggs and my wife the homemade corn beef also with eggs. My meal had a good portion of chorizo and was nicely prepared my wife on the other hand had more onions and peppers than anything else very disappointing on amount of corn beef. Love the idea of homemade hash but skimped on ingredients a little. The rest of visit was just fine service was good and quick and prices are fair except for the corn beef hash. I would not say it is exceptional but is a good place to go for diner food. read more

This restaurant has been around for awhile now and is a good place for breakfast. They have specials during the week but not on the weekend. The last time we went we had to ask for a kids menu as we thought we would have to pay full price for pancakes. The service is decent as is the salad bar. read more

Folks, read the dates on the other reviews before you decide to eat here, they are few and far between, mostly because there's so very little that makes this place remarkable, and it's been that way for a while now. They've been through a fire, they've been through some changes both good and bad, but the last three visits I made here left me so angry and disappointed I don't know if I will *ever* give them another try. Five years ago this wasn't a bad little family diner, and our entire family ate there often. It started to decline about that time, however, started to get very dirty...your feet would literally stick to the carpet as you walked around, but also run down and poorly managed. All the banquets were ripped and losing stuffing, toddlers of staff members running loose, making a nuisance of themselves at the door pass (dangerous! almost witnessed one baby get a tray full of hot food dumped on 'em as a waitress barged through the door, fully loaded) and a salad bar often left in a gross and unappetizing state. We stopped going there as often at that time, but after waiting some months, we tried again, hubby and I looking for a full steak and eggs breakfast. The waitress was pushing leftover Prime Rib from Saturday and suggested that, I asked how it could be reheated since I like mine very rare and she assured me it would still be at least pink. I was served a large slab of extremely fatty, ice-cold, greyish meat literally swimming in au jus. Ugh. But worse was yet to come, when I handed her my plate after taking just a bite, I saw a ring of FILTH on the table where the plate had been set down. I started looking at the bottoms of the other plates, and yup, there were many that looked absolutely disgusting! They took the prime rib off the tab and ended up giving us a ten dollar gift certificate for our next visit, but I left there feeling so queasy I gave it away to another family member, who also didn't want it. Another long wait before returning, and was sorry that time as well. Loud banging and crashing from the kitchen's window pass, which is located directly over the booth we'd been seated at. I accidentally spilled a ladle of salad dressing right next to the salad bar and informed the waitress right away, and she proceeded to ignore it for a good hour, until another customer almost slipped and fell in it. She didn't forget, because she had to step around it every time she left the kitchen. I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and the salad bar, got a cold grilled cheese without bacon, it took 15 minutes for the bacon to come after I pointed out it was missing, and of course, the entire thing was congealed by then but we were running out of time so we just left. They did not have many customers that day, and some elderly fellow dressed in street clothes was hanging out at the door pass, EATING in full view. Ugh. MOST RECENT was last week. They'd been advertising that they had made some changes, inviting folks to come back with a buy one, get one free coupon for lunch or dinner, of course you have to buy two beverages with that, and it never applies to specials, but you can still save a couple of dollars, so we decided "one more time." I wish we hadn't bothered. They've cleaned it up some, put in some new tabletops and banquettes and moved the salad bar. My mother ordered the whitefish, the portion was pretty small and we're pretty sure it wasn't whitefish but tilapia or something, and my chicken cordon bleu (their 'version' of it) was tasty. The salad bar no longer has any sort of dessert offering on it, they used to have at least one or two types of pudding or fruit, but now it's just lettuce and veggies. Same watered down dressings. Same soup every diner from Geneva to Perry has. The waitress brought cold coffee and took her sweet time replacing it when it was brought to her attention. She got my bread wrong, but never mind, she was too hard to flag down. She did pre-bus the table, which is always appreciated. The final insult was to happen at the cash register. We had shown the coupon to the waitress prior to ordering, and got a vague response, something like "There are a few they aren't honoring anymore." We pointed out it was their MOST RECENT coupon, only days old, and she said we'd probably be ok. Probably? My behind! Upon reaching the checkout, the hostess informed us that only a supervisor can take money off a check via coupon use, and guess what, there was no supervisor on site. After quite a bit of arguing, (embarrassing, yes, but this just isn't right) we suggested she get a supervisor on the phone. She was reluctant to do so, but finally gave in, and sure enough someone walked her through the process. The hassle and bad feelings this entire scene created left a bad enough taste in our mouths that we probably won't ever return now. Enough is enough. Save your money, drive to Mary's or, if you want salad bar, Perry Diner further west. read more

My friend and I come here on Saturdays mostly cause it's prime rib night. We also do the AUCE fish fry Fridays. I love the friendly staff here and the food is great. Nice size portions of food for the price. The salad bar always looks fresh and appetizing. The small is alway clean looking, with a friendly atmosphere. read more

I and some other negative reviewers (some other reviewers also complained about Denise, among other things) were sent messages on Facebook from the supposed new manager - Alexandra Rose Harris. She saw my negative review there and apologized. She said she wanted to try to make the situation right and try to regain our business. She said she would speak with the cook, who I had complained to before because the owner wasn't around, and get back to me. Eventually I asked if there had been any progress and she said that the cook said he had never spoken to me before (a blatant lie) and that she would get back to me. This place is dirty and nasty! The tables have dried food on them the seats are covered in duct tape and there is stains all over the carpet. I'm not sure how they ever pass a Health Department inspection but all I can say eat here at your own risk!! read more

I eat at Madison Family Restaurant about once a month, living a half hour away. It's a nice family-style restaurant, with a decent salad bar that has more choices than just lettuce and veggies. The homemade soups are very good - I love the clam chowder on Fridays. The prime-rib dinner special (I believe on Saturday?) is also good. My favorite entree is probably the eggplant parmesan.
