My family has bought no fewer than five cars from Madison Honda in Madison, New Jersey. I am writing today to complain and warn others of dishonorable business practices in the Service Department. This is not our first encounter and as such we must raise concern. On June 8th, we brought our 2012 Honda CRV to Madison Honda as the brakes were making a noise. Andrew from the service desk called us to tell us that the car needed new rear calipers, pads and rotors at a cost of $2,700. When we questioned his price, he said he could use aftermarket rotors and calipers from a major parts retailer and bring the cost down to $1,500. At that point I told him to hold and went on that retailer's site to price the parts myself. I asked Andrew to explain the price breakdown and he said "he would have to speak with the service technician and get back" to me. I told him I could get the same parts at the same parts store for about $536 and looked forward to his explanation. After a few hours, he did not call and I called him. He then said they would drop the price to $1,100. I said $600 labor was ridiculous for rear brakes and I will simply pick up the car as I was extremely suspicious. I took our car to the local garage who said it was extremely rare that BOTH calipers would fail at the same time. They looked at the car and all it needed were brake pads and rotors. The calipers were both fine! The whole bill was $493.33. My wife and I were outraged that Madison Honda would treated repeat customers this way. How many people who do not know better get suckered into exorbitant and unnecessary repair bills? As I mentioned this was not the first time. We had a similar issue where we were having pads replaced on our Acord a few years before and Madison Honda insisted we needed new calipers. The problem was that we had JUST HAD THEM REPLACED at another garage! You can imagine their faces when we showed them the invoice. Their only excuse was that the calipers looked "stained" so they thought they had failed. Seriously?!?! A part exposed to the dirt and elements was dirty? I am terribly disappointed in Madison Honda and cannot in good conscience continue to buy my cars there nor recommend them to anyone else because of this experience. While I doubt these practices are illegal, they are certainly unethical and not representative of the brand image Honda sells to the public. I have every intention to share this experience with all who might entertain doing business with Madison Honda so they might be forewarned. read more

My wife was encountering issues the low pressure tire light and she brought our CR-V into Madison Honda, even though we bought our car from another dealership. From what she tells me, it could not have been a better experience. They promptly brought the car in, did a full assessment of all tires, and found a nail in one of them that was causing a slow leak. They patched up the tire and sent her on her way, all free of charge and within 20 minutes, end-to-end. As far as I'm concerned, they have set the bar for customer service. This review is for the service department. I recently scheduled a regular oil change at Madison Honda last week. As part of the oil service, the technicians check tire pressure and battery metrics. However, the service center technicians broke my car battery through their testing/meddling. 90 minutes after I left my car downstairs to have the oil changed, I was told "it had to be jumped twice in order to get it on the lift". I told the technician the car had started in every kind of weather for the past four years - had literally never stalled or needed to be jumped. The long and the short of it is I had to purchase a brand new battery in addition to my oil change. The total cost was $200 and I will NEVER use Madison Honda again. It's three days later and my tire pressure light has come on this morning. The service department is completely inept and unprofessional. read more

Pros: Attentive service staff. Service was done on time. Once they botched an oil change and instantly said they'd install a new engine, which they did. Cons: dealer service is always costlier than locals. Service once suggested a competing local shop for service that was too over-priced: Bravo. Waiting area: Poor waiting room for service customers: it's in the sales area, has a blaring TV, and no quiet room. Free coffee tho. read more

My experience was so hideous this is more of a warning than a review. Granted the poor job they did took seven years to surface but if they had done as contracted this should NEVER have happend. Soon after i bought my civic i got into an unfortunate accident that took out my rear left side panel and lights. I decided to pay the top dollar for the repair instead of going local because i expected new factory parts, immaculate work and truthfully i was banking on Honda's reputation. Sadly, I trusted them. A few weeks ago while washing my car i noticed the paint bubbling and on closer inspection i found more bubbling so i looked deeper. Then i realized the whole panel was rusting out! I immediately called them and spoke to the shop manager he basically laughed me off the phone. So I continued and contacted the general manager Brian who listened patiently said he'd investigate and call me back. HaHa i believed him too! Today i called again and he told me too bad not their problem its out of warranty they dont contract out anymore and a bunch of other excuses for not taking responsibility. I called Madison Honda today to find out about a CRV lease for my wife. Talked to Christian who said the dealership is a little slow and that they could be very aggressive with pricing. We briefly discussed budget and he stated that we were very close in price and to come down and finalize the deal. He said to ask for him when I got there. When I got there I asked a salesman to speak with Christian. He said that he could help me and that Christian was the sales manager and would hand me off to a salesman anyway. Fair enough. My salesman's name was Jeff and he took my keys to have my trade in appraised. My trade is rough and to be honest I wasn't expecting too much for it. He came back with a low number but that wasn't the reason the whole deal went south. His lease price was a full $150 a month higher than what Christian had said over the phone. This couldn't have been due to the trade in either because I had never mentioned it to Christian in the first place. It is amazing that even in 2018 car sales tactics haven't changed all that much. read more

TLDR: honda tried to charge me 3k more to buyout my lease than it would be online. they tried to double dip the tax which might actually be illegal. and charge an inspection fee to buy the car i'm already driving, shady practices. i got a lease here in 2016. everything was fine with sales. when i got to the financing part the guy added on a bunch of fees and such. the fees were not the problem. he also "sold" me honda care without explaining anything. i assumed i was signing further paperwork for the lease when he actually put the honda care in front without ever saying what it was. (this was my inexperience mistake). fast forward to 2019 and the lease is expiring. for about 4 months leading up the the end i started receiving spam phone calls, text, emails, and mail trying to get me to upgrade to a new lease. i informed them that i was planning to buyout the car. i went to the dealership to get the buyout price and finance it. Dave G was my salesman. he originally brought at a buyout price with new contract with a bunch of fees and tax (this price was almost 3k($19,000) higher than my buyout according to online(16,000 tax included). so how do we get to a 3k difference in online and in person. first off they were trying to double dip on tax. the buyout already had the tax in it and they were adding there own ~1k tax on top. also according to Dave and his manager Luis F, they need buy the car back from honda financial and resell it. in order to do this they need to inspect the car for another 1k. i tried to see if they could waive this fee since i'm buying out my own car. they wouldn't budge and said that this is "standard" and typical of other dealers Luis. when i mentioned i could get a loan from a CU and wouldnt have those fees. Luis tried to convince me that the price wouldnt be much different bc i would have to register the car and other paper stuff that would equal to about the same as the fees. i walked out at that point i'm not big on being lied to. i didnt even get to the last 1k of fees. i know one was registration fee which is fine and normal if it was $250 that would be ok. not sure what other fees they were trying to include to increase that price. Also, i absolutely dont understand where the salesperson is always off to. every other minute they need to print something or go ask the sales manager something, and it takes them 3-5 minutes to get back. i spent more time sitting by myself than i did with a salesperson. this place is a joke. i ended up buying out my lease with a credit union for the 16000 and i will have to get it registered for another 250 read more

Overall our experience at Madison Honda was very positive. We were greeted by Sebastian who showed us the car we had seen online, as well as another option in our price range that had been traded in that morning. Sebastian was extremely helpful & made us feel very comfortable. They allowed us to take the car to our mechanic friend up the street a few nights later, and we put a (100% refundable) deposit down on the car after being assured by our friend that the car was in good shape. After making the deposit, one of my family member's brought up the option of essentially swapping / buying each others cars, and this was a much better option financially. We were unsure about how the process of getting our $1000 refund (the minimum amount for a deposit) back, and went in as soon as we had decided to take the family deal. Though our salesman was visibly unhappy with our decision (can't say I blame him) we were able to get our money back with very little hassle, and a short conversation with the sales manager. The manager, David, was extremely professional and pleasant to deal with. We were pleasantly surprised that we did not have to fight to get our deposit back. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because of the length of time we spent waiting inside the dealership between discussing the refund of the deposit with the salesman & talking to the manager / receiving the refund. We spent over an hour in the dealership, with no more than 5 of those minutes involving a conversation with the salesman / manager. We left Madison Honda impressed with their professionalism, trustworthiness and customer service, and will certainly return when buying our next car. read more

I waited in their comfortable-enough waiting area enjoying complimentary tea and some down time. They found a nail and repaired the tire. No charge for the visit! The worst dealer I ever see. did 4 oil changes at this location, at the last time, they intentionally damaged thread of the oil pan drain hole and tried to charge me close to $1000 for a new oil pan. I returned a leased Accord in pristine condition with extremely low mileage. I babied the car. It looked brand new after three years. The sales-lease person lied and told me the car would be picked up and traded or scrapped. I found out that was a lie and that, in proven fact, the car was placed on their used car lot and marked up for a nice profit because of its low mileage and fabulous condition. The mileage was was only fifteen thousand miles. For three years use. The person who told about the used-car placement was another sales and leasing agent with the dealership. He was honest. I was upset because I believe I should have gotten a better deal due to the immaculate condition of the returned car. Further, when the sales and lease manager called me, he was intimidating. He was angry that I had complained to the region sales manager. He also lied by saying to me that the leased Accord I returned had extensive damage. That was laughable. Stay away. Clearly they lie. Both the leasing agent and the manager bold face lied to me. This is what gives car sales people a bad reputation. Their behavior was classic. Caveat emptor. The customer service is terrible and the inventory is non-existent. They make you wait for hours and basically asked me to leave when I didnt like their price. I had quotes from other dealers which were better and obviously far better inventory. The salesperson asked me to go blind when I asked for the color I wanted (Wow). read more

I no longer live in NJ, but when I lived here I purchased a 2003 Honda Accord EX V6 used in 2004. I used them for service up to the seven year service in 2010 (105,000 miles). They always were very professional and took care of the concerns with the car. I still own this car today as it now has 128,000 miles after 9 years of owershp (nearly 10 overall). It has had its concerns (rebuilt transmission at 30,000 miles, new control unit at 80,000, new boots for the transmission at 90,000) which would have cost me thousands of dollars, but the extended maintenance contract I bought from them for $800 they followed to the letter and always fixed the car as the contract stated. I have nothing to complain about as they did as agreed even though there is no way they could have made any money from that maintenance contract they sold me. They were always pleasant and they have a very nice facility in Madision, NJ. I used to work on my own cars so they were very good if I identified a concern and troubleshooted before I came in. They would immendately take what I told them and follow that lead - saving them and me time as they would not have to waste time looking for the issue. That is very much appreciated as well. I arrived at the dealership equipped with pricing information, etc. and Mo worked with me diplomatically. We had a great experience at Madison Honda with our salesperson, Sam Shehata. There was never any pressure and luckily none of the typical hard sell of other car dealerships we had been to around the area. We feel that we paid a fair price and got a great trade in for our old car. Since we were buying a used car (2013) there were a few minor repairs that we were concerned about and Sam went above and beyond to make sure they were fixed beautifully. Worst experience ever at a dealer. We found the Odyssey we wanted at Madison Honda. We test drove it, liked it, but had a couple of questions. However, we had checkbook in hand and had every intention of buying the van that day. The Carfax showed three instances of "Body Electrical System Checked". These appeared to be unusual, recurring services that in my mind would only have occurred based on a customer complaint. When we questioned it, instead of researching the issue since the record showed that the services were done at the dealership, Paul, the salesman, made up a story how whenever vehicles come in for service the computer gets reset. I've worked on cars long enough to know this was a lie. I pressed him further, and then he changed his story to say that whenever a Honda comes in for service, all Hondas get that type of "points check". One of those records were submitted by itself (not part of a scheduled service), so obviously that wasn't true. He then tried to show us with several Honda Pilots in their dealership that other cars had the same items in their reports, and none had that record. I can't fathom why he chose the Pilot to try to prove his point, and when I asked him to check on other Odyssey's, none of those had the record either. We pressed him further to get the records from his service department which the dealers have whenever a car comes in for service, and when he finally got them it turned out to be a non-issue. Bottom line salesman - if you don't know the answer, don't lie. There's a good chance the customer knows better than you do. Okay, so we start to haggle. We put in an opening offer, and I openly told him I know his management wouldn't approve this, but it was a start. Instead of saying "I don't think he'll accept it", and trying to get us to think in a higher range, he got indignant and rude. When he came back from talking to his manager, the resultant counter offer was ridiculous, but it was something for discussion. But the salesman continued to be rude and loud, to the point that we didn't even bother putting in a second offer. So after investing our time and his, he was too rude to finish the deal. While I am not saying to avoid this dealership, I strongly suggest you avoid Paul Fuchs. read more

We bought our last car from Creiss when he worked at another Honda dealership, and after returning there and dealing with someone else, we remembered that Creiss had moved to Madison Honda. We went there to buy our new car yesterday, and the whole experience was completely different. Creiss was wonderful in every way as usual, but the entire atmosphere at Madison Honda and every individual person was so pleasant and welcoming. Al Rico helped us with financing, and he was so warm and helped make the entire experience straightforward, easy and seamless. We highly recommend both Creiss and this dealership. read more

I went to Madison Honda to get a quote for both leasing and purchasing of a honda civic. I spent over two hours at the dealership just to obtain the quote. I returned home in order to shop around. I had no intention of using Madison Honda. The next day, I received a call from Madison Honda's internet sales division informing me that Madison Honda would meet any offer so I thought I would give them another try. I brought in a quote I received from another dealer. Once we were there, they agreed to meet the price but the catch was that we had to finance the car. We finally agreed to the deal with financing when the manager came over and told us that in order to receive the deal, we would have to purchase an accessory package for an additional charge of $699. Once we were convinced to purchase the accessory charge and after we had already signed the contract (they had our credit card for the deposit), they told us they didn't have the color I wanted, and for the deal I was getting, I would have to take the color that I did not want. To do the deal, Madison Honda kept throwing additional hoops for me to jump through in order to get the deal. I went to another dealership. I was in and out of the dealership in half an hour. They did not require me to finance the car, there was no accessory charge, and I could get the color I want all for the same price that Madison Honda was offering. During the whole negotiation with Madison Honda, I constantly felt like I could not trust my sales person. I didn't know what additional charges they were going require me to pay to get this "great deal"! They were making like I was getting such a great deal, but in reality, I got the same deal at another honda and I didn't have to jump through so many hoops to get it. In the end, I did not trust them to give me the car I wanted for the price we agreed on. read more

I am only rating one star because there is no option for 0 stars I went to Madison Honda today with the hopes of leasing my 3rd Honda Pilot from them. Unfortunately, Management decided to do a bait & switch on me which resulted in me leaving the dealership - never to return and never to recommend them to anyone again. All conversations were about a 2015 model. I test drove a 2015 and the salesperson agreed we were talking about a 2015. The "Manager" came back and said the deal was for a 2014. This was after another manager - Theresa, had told me when I entered the dealership, that they had no 2014's left and that Ronny had worked the numbers up on a 2015. Madison Honda - proving once again that buying or leasing a car is an experience that leaves you feeling like you've been ripped off and in need of a shower. Bought a Honda Odyssey. Car's transmission is crap and they refuse to acknowledge the problem. Of course the laws go in favor of conglomerates so we're pretty much on the shaft end of the deal. But hey, now we know who to avoid for our next car. The dealer refuses to answer phone calls and also gave the car to us with the middle portion of the second row seats missing. This is a review of their service station. 2003 Honda Odyssey needed repair from driving over an object. They estimated a problem at $2500. Turns out, it did not need a new catalytic converter as they had said after all, and cost me just $324 to repair at an honest station. I'd been there before and had been pleased with their service, however, now I just can't trust the place to bring it back again. Not recommended if your car is not covered by a warranty. I guess they were trying to get me to buy a new car. read more

I would give Madison Honda zero stars to their service department if I could. They had my car for two days. I was told on the second day that there was nothing wrong with the car. They said they can't do anything about it. My car randomly doesn't start. Last time I was stranded I had three children in my car and it was snowing... What bothered me the most is the attitude of the people working there, including their manager Brad. They deserve a zero for customer service. No one cares to explain anything. They give you an attitude and you better not have any other questions. Your questions are not welcomed. So after going nowhere with Scott, I asked to speak with the manager. He told me that after running all their diagnosis machines and testing the battery everything was okay. So frustrated I went to pick up the key and tried to start the car to take it home. Guess what, the car wouldn't start! I immediately ran inside and told him about it. He testing the battery and said that it needed to be replaced... So first everything was fine and now that I am trying to take it home, the battery needs to be replaced when they assured me a few minutes earlier that the battery tested okay? Frustration level through the roof!!! Didn't want to deal with him or his attitude any longer. Will take car elsewhere. I am never happy to go there but today was the worst! read more

Bought a certified Honda in 2006 here,When my son got into an accident and it went to another shop for repair we found it had been in an obvious ,to a "professional" mechanic,major accident..these cars are supposed to be inspected by the dealership.Just went back after 6 years for another issue and was treated like they were doing me a favor for coming to them. read more

Dealer matched a price I had from 3 other dealers, on a new Civic EX, but then wanted to charge me $877 for Fog Lights Installed. The Honda MSRP is about $640 Installed. When I questioned this, the Sales Manager said, "It's called sales" and "profit". He had called and demanded to know why I hadn't purchased from him yet, and was obnoxious, condescending, rude. Well, I bought the car at another dealer for a lower price, plus my Fog Lights for $640. read more
