This place does not care about you. It is the DMV of oral implants. You are basically a number and will get billed 4 months after. I called the billing office confused i got a bill for 300$ 4 months after paying. I was talked down at, harassed, and hung up on because i did not understand why i was getting billed 4 months later. After spending over a decade in active addiction to drugs, my teeth were completely destroyed. I took my first step to getting clean in July of 2021. I'm so grateful I have been able to maintain sobriety and accomplish as much as I have in the last four and a half years, that being said though, no matter what I did, having a mouth of black and broken teeth left me feeling incomplete and killed my confidence. On January 27th, 2026, after only a couple of thorough but quick and easy consultations, Dr. Hoyer performed the surgery necessary for me to sign a new lease on a fresh set of chompers. The difference this has made for me in such a short amount of time is unreal. I find myself with happy tears sometimes when I am able to look a stranger in the face and smile and say hello. My favorite thing to do in the morning now is to look in the mirror and smile at myself, nice and big! I haven't felt this confident since I was 18 and I am now 36. 5/5 for the surgery experience itself. I had my wisdom teeth surgery done by Dr. Koob and Tonya. The surgery experience was amazing as they both talked everything through with me as I was naming my concerns and worries with them. I felt taken care of by them both and am grateful they were the ones to do my surgery. 1/5 for the scheduling, payment options, and front desk experience, it was a rather frustrating and disappointing experience. When I was scheduling with someone they shared how much I would have to pay out of pocket and reassured me about the process. Then, the week leading up to my surgery, I got a call confirming my surgery date and they stated the cost out of pocket. The amount from the voicemail was 100s of dollars more than the amount mentioned to me when I was scheduling my appointment. I called them back and asked them why the numbers had changed. They stated they didn't know why I was told the first amount but they would put me on hold and go and talk to the individual that scheduled me. They then came back and told me they don't know who scheduled me so they couldn't talk to the individual. They then proceeded to say I do have to pay the amount they mentioned in the voicemail. After all of this, I stated my disappointment that there wasn't even an apology for the miscommunication. I mentioned how I understand mistakes can happen AND this was a very disappointing experience. They then did apologize for the miscommunication. On the day of my surgery, I went to the front desk to check in. I stated that I would be paying with Cherry. As I was setting up my Cherry account (I was already preapproved) I realized there was going to be an extra charge for using a credit card, so I ended up using another card. I asked the front desk individual if it was possible to change my card in Cherry later. They looked at me confused. So I further explained that I'm putting down a card right now to pay the amount due that day but would like to use a different card for the future payments. They continued to look at me confused and stated "I don't know, you'll have to contact them and ask them that." This was a little frustrating because I needed to pay and didn't have time to call them right then and there for my question. My partner ended up googling it and found out you can change the card later, to which I thanked him for. Then, as I was completing the payment plan setup, Cherry asked me a question and to be as descriptive as possible of what I'm using the plan for. I then asked the front desk individual, "It's asking me why I'm using Cherry. Do I just put down dental? Is that okay?" They looked at me and said "Suuurree?" I just looked at them because of their disinterested tone of response. Then they proceeded to say "I'm saying yes that you can just write dental." At this point, I just finished up on checking in and my payment method and then asked if there was anything else. They said no and I walked to the waiting area as they said "Have a good day" to which I responded with a "Thank you". They then proceeded to stare at me as I sat down and waited. Then I hear them talking to another front desk individual about the situation, in front of me. This was such a disappointing experience of everything leading up to my surgery. There was a lack of support from the front desk in problem solving with me the issues and questions that I had and then for them to proceed to talk about me as I'm still sitting there, extremely unprofessional. read more

The quality of work and staff hospitality is good. I had an infection that was very close to my sinuses, which required a tooth extraction and jaw surgery. After months of procedures with my dentist and an endodontist, I was referred to MOS. Initially, it was covered by insurance due to the nature of the infection and its location. I paid my portion and expected to move forward with follow-up and a dental implant. The insurance company then changed its mind and said it wouldn't pay after all (due to a coding issue), demanding full repayment from MOS. I was then made responsible. There was no negotiation except to put me on a payment plan, which was a 'generous accommodation'. The communication I received throughout was professional but not particularly supportive. I requested a re-evaluation of the codes, but the request was ignored. I would have chosen a different route, not involving the implant, had I known it would go this way. As a patient, I felt unprotected and financially vulnerable as the procedure was not optional. The underlying issue is that the cost of dental care is out of balance with minimal insurance options. Oral surgery costs compete with industry-set prices, while dental insurance is almost nonexistent, putting patients at risk. We could expect a $50 payment from dental insurance, which doesn't come close to covering a bill that could reach $30,000.00 or more. I was relieved when our health insurance agreed to cover most of the bill. I was left holding the bill when coverage fell through the cracks, with no cooperation from either party. My experience with Dr. Ebben was positive until I needed to abandon plans for the rest of the procedure. I would rather go toothless than be at the mercy of this dilemma again. I still don't understand the rationale for the change since it was more than a dental or cosmetic issue. I'm told it boils down to 'medical codes.' This raises ethical questions over medical coding. read more

Avoid at all costs. Service was horrible, I was in pain for weeks afterward and they could not fix the damage they did. Madison has much better alternatives to this bucket shop now that the older, better dental surgeons have retired. Unless you like being overcharged for poor work, run don't walk to another place to get your dental surgery. Not worth the pain and cost. read more

My experience with Madison Oral Surgery & Dental Implants was nothing short of spectacular. I had 3 wisdom teeth removed with just local anesthetic and I felt that everything from the initial consult to the recovery has gone so smoothly. The front desk (shout out to Johnna!) explained everything regarding insurance coverage, co-pays, and other important details. The wait upon arriving was minimal (less than 5 minutes) and Mary the assistant / nurse was outstanding - she made me feel extremely comfortable, explained everything to me, and during the procedure she always asked and made sure I was doing ok. Dr. Bascik also took great care of me from the get go and was very easy to speak to. I would recommend Dr. Bascik and MOS & DI to everyone for their oral-care needs. Two thumbs way up! read more

I know this may seem like kind of an odd place to review on Yelp, but I've got time on my hands and I think Madison Oral Surgeons deserves a good word. I had my wisdom teeth taken out Friday (3 days ago), after a looong, successful history of avoiding it. I haven't been under general anesthesia in a long time, and I was still very nervous by the time the big day rolled around, but Dr. Alton and the nurses at MOS really did everything in their power to make me more comfortable. My consultation visit was short, but helped to ease my nerves, because it was all about me: what my procedure would be like, what kind of anesthesia I wanted, what my questions and thoughts were so far. On the day of surgery, I was pretty scared, and I just wanted to get the whole thing over with. Key things that made me feel a little more trusting: a super-short wait in the waiting room, plus consistency. I don't remember moving from the operating chair to the super-calming, dimly-lot recovery room, but I distinctly remember my nurse (I wish I could remember her name - started with a J?) being with me the ENTIRE visit, from prep, to comforting me when I cried loopy post-anesthesia tears to her and my mom (yeah, that happens), all the way to physically walking me out to the car. (The only confusing thing I've found so far is that the instructions you get in their post-op brochure, online, and in person all differ slightly from each other. However, this is probably due more to the fact that every case is so individualized, rather than an oversight.) TL;DR - I was a terrified stick-in-the-mud about my wisdom teeth, and the folks at MOS were clearly skilled at dealing with people like me. They're kind, gentle, compassionate, and very informative. Bonus: They call you a few days after your procedure to check up on you. You're in good hands here! read more

This is the second implant I have had done by Dr. Hoyer. This first was perfect! This time scheduling has been difficult. We set up an appointment for surgery and they called and changed the date. The healing cap came off less than a month after surgery and they couldn't see me to put it back on for over a month, which would likely require another surgery. I called and asked to get in sooner so they could just screw it back in before the gum tissue grew over it. They said sure and scheduled me for the next day only to call two hours later and change the appointment again for a week later. I am frustrated with all the appointment changes and the inability to see me quickly before I require another surgery. read more

Wish the poor service at the front desk would have made me change my mind about going further. I was very pleased with my experience at Madison Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. I had all four wisdom teeth removed and remained awake with local anesthetic. They were very kind and patient and took a lot of time to be sure that I felt comfortable and informed. I was very nervous about being awake for the surgery but the procedure was painless and amazingly fast. Dr. Hoyer and Jen went above and beyond to make the experience easy for me. I was referred here by my dentist for wisdom teeth removal. Dr. Scott Hoyer and his staff were wonderful! They were so friendly and did everything in their power to make me feel at ease and comfortable. They did a great job of walking me through the process, and what I should expect. Wait times were minimal at all my appointments. The day of surgery I was in and out in about 40 minutes flat. I even received a phone call from the nurse the next day to check up on me and my recovery. I wish I could say the same about the front counter. My experience with the front counter staff was disappointing from beginning to end. My initial phone call to get things squared away with my insurance I found out that this office out of network. My insurance (BCBS) required that the office call to answer a few questions for a pre-certification process then I would be able to receive in-network rates. The woman insisted that it was not their responsibility to make these phone calls. I then insisted that she double check with billing, she eventually apologized and had billing make the phone call. It was suggested that I complete my paperwork a head of time on-line. The paperwork was lost, I had to fill it out again before my appointment. When surgery day came, which was schedule over a month later, my insurance had not been run and I was charge the full amount to be reimbursed later To sum up my experience, the work I needed done was done beautifully once I got pass the not so helpful front counter. Be prepared to pay up front. I ended up paying about 2 1/2 the amount of what was estimated to me at my evaluation. I got the impression that they were more on the insurance companies side than mine. My son had four impacted wisdom teeth removed in August. We thought we had insurance coverage and it turned out we didn't. They charged $3,259 for a procedure that takes slightly over an hour. If you don't have insurance they appear to just make up any amount for a bill they want and completely rip you off. Not having to deal with the paperwork of insurance is cheaper for a service provider. I know some dentists wont charge less for people with insurance than people who pay cash. An ethical standard these people clearly don't subscribe to. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about this office. The staff was courteous and helpful. The surgeon performed a molar extraction and took the time to patiently explain the process before and during the procedure in a calming and informative manner which alleviated any anxiety I was feeling about the procedure. He used two numbing agents which led to a pain-free experience--much to my surprise. Even now that the anesthetic has worn off, I have only had to take a few ibuprofen to manage a little bit of achiness. Job well done! read more

These people are amazing. They are people who truly care about you as a person and not just a patient. I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Alton and his surgical assistant Connie. I reluctantly went to them after 20 years of avoiding my horizontally impacted wisdom teeth. I literally went in crying (I'm 37 years old) and they were so kind and caring and made sure I knew exactly what procedure was being done (coronectomy, as I was high risk for nerve damage). Connie never left my side. I had iv sedation but I distinctly remember holding on to her shirt through my procedure. They were continuously reassuring me that everything was going great and everything was ok. Dr. Alton is an extremely talented oral surgeon and it was obvious he cared most about my comfort and my safety. And Connie brought me to tears (good tears) with how she took me under her wing. She made sure that I was able to contact her throughout the weekend ON HER OWN PERSONAL TIME. I just have nothing but wonderful things to say about these people. MOS is honestly the BEST experience I have EVER had at a dentist, and each time I have been there has been for extractions. My most recent experience was last week when I had all four wisdom teeth removed, and I was awake for the whole thing! Dr. Alton (who has been my surgeon both visits) is the most comforting, gentle oral surgeon I have ever encountered. I actually knew I had to have all of my wisdom teeth removed for over 3 years and kept chickening out. It went as far as me being in intense pain before actually scheduling the surgery. It was recommended I go under for the procedure (I was petrified to do so). I show up for my original apt 7 weeks ago and have a full on panic attack. Dr. Alton and his nurse Connie E. Calmed me down and assured me everything would be alright. I still couldn't get over the paralyzing fear of going under. He calmly offered the option of taking valume and rescheduling (used valume with the last removal of a molar). I did, for almost 2 months out! Finally, it's go time and I'm still REALLY anxious...wait time in lobby less than 5 minutes. I am greeted by the same nurse Connie E. The valume helped take the edge off and I was brought to my room. Less than 2 minutes till doc was in and explaining the procedure again. Got me numb in no time flat (really has good technique at making that part not suck as much) and it was go time. He talked me through each step, continually asking me if I was comfortable. Two teeth were not numb enough and I told him, right away he added more, and calmed my nerves. I am not exaggerating when I say I truly believe I am the most anxious patient alive. Whole procedure from start to finish was under half and hour! All four teeth! Granted they were all erupted, but still...amazing!! I also report no swelling after day one, and NO pain. I really had ZERO pain after my surgery (some minor discomfort and soreness that was fixed w ibprofin). ZERO pain! I seriously can't get over this! I was in much discomfort prior to surgery and now I'm feeling so much better! If I could recommend this to anyone I would! MOS is professional, amazingly staffed, and truly cares about you and not just your wallet. And yes, receiving a follow up call "just to check up on me" the very next day was icing in the cake!
