I have many complaints about my interaction with Madison Van Lines, but for brevity I will summarize 2 reasons why you should NOT hire this company. (1) They tried to get me to sign a gag order, and (2) they hire local carriers to move your items and therefore take zero responsibility for anything that goes wrong during your move. Move info for those interested... (1) After 2 months of back and forth, they offered me only $250 for well over $2,000 of damaged and lost items. However, this was under the condition that I sign a legal document forbidding ANYTHING negative comments, by ANY method of communication, FOREVER. I have the document to prove it. How dishonest a business practice is that? I suspect there would be many more negative reviews online if the company did not have this policy. (2) They refuse to take responsibility for anything that happens during your move. This is because they are simply a logistics company. They hire local movers to actually move your items, and claim they have no legal responsibility for anything the movers do. They also will not provide you with the name of the moving company, until the day of your move. If ANYTHING goes wrong with your move, good luck getting them to take responsibility for it. read more

I would've given Madison Van Lines a higher rating but they messed up my move date! I checked my email on my smartphone and got an email from the account manager about my move date but they somehow moved it up a day!-I sent an email on 8/2/18 to the account representative [handling my account] stating that my move date changed to 8/27/18 and NOT 8/26/18. The only reason I gave Madison Van Lines 2 stars is because it was the dispatcher (MVL contracts out their dispatcher) who saved the day. I told her about my predicament and she was able to fix my problem by changing the date to the correct one. MVL, you guys need to really listen to your customers and not screw things up! Absolutely horrible experience. I emailed 3 movers the exact list of items to get quotes. All three movers quote's were within $20. Madison then sub contracted out the move but the list of furniture I had provided to Madison was now missing 4 items. These 4 items (which were included in the original quote) ended up costing another ~$900 to move. Madison was absolutely no help in resolving the issue with the sub contracted moving company. There are plenty of movers to choose from, I suggest avoiding Madison Van Lines. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! DO NOT USE! My son hired American Knights moving company that then contracted out to Madison Van Lines. After packing there items they told them that they owed an additional $4000. They had his stuff so he was forced to pay. The merchandise was to be delivered on the 1st and on calling for delivery times they were told that there was a "30 day window" so for the first 18 Days in the new home they had no beds, washer, dryer, clothes, pots, pans....nothing. This is the worst moving company in a long line of bad moving companies... I hired Madison Van Lines for a long distance move from Chicago, Illinois to Reno, NV. It cost me $10,000 and all I got was broken heirloom furniture and china. The apartment building I moved from required a reserved elevator and we had a limited amount of time. Knowing this, Madison Van Lines still showed up an hour late and it only got worse from there. I was promised a delivery date of my furniture and boxes and hired movers on the other end to accept my things. (Obviously, I had to pay them for their time). Madison Van Lines didn't show up and were not available when I tried calling to find out where they were. When they showed up three days later, my one-of-a-kind antique furniture was broken and boxes were filled with broken glass. No apology. No remorse. I was told I had to sign an agreement saying I wouldn't write anything negative about their company in order to get a maximum of $100 (my damages were in the thousands). This is not how you maintain a business or take care of paying customers! Too, I explained to the sales person when making my reservation that some of the boxes would not be opened until later since my new home was not yet ready for move-in. She said that wouldn't be a problem and that if those items were damaged, I would receive reimbursement. Lies! When problems arose and damage was found, I was told it was my problem and my expense. This was the WORST moving experience I have ever had. $3,000 more than quoted. Loaded my belongings on a truck and took it to Fort Lauderdale from Georgia, supposedly to switch crews. I was told AFTER they had the truck loaded and collected an additional $1,500 that it would be an extra week before my belongings would arrive in Virginia. When they arrived in Virginia a week later, it was a different truck than what left my house. Come to find out they off loaded all my belongings and packed it into another truck. Four days later I got a call from yet another delivery company telling me they had the rest of my move! I have legs broken off tables, an antique picture is broken beyond use must less repair. Corners broken completely off my dining room table and buffet. Power cords missing to my power reclining sofas, a complete box of sterling silver flatware valued at over $9,000 is missing, broken dishes, mattresses were bent and now have humps in the middle of them. The person I spoke with initially assured me the same people who loaded mt furniture would stay with it through delivery. This was not the case at all. As someone else mentioned I too was on the phone with someone who I walked from room to room with them and they quoted me $4500. But then I had to pay an additional $3,000. Absolutely terrible experience. I moved from NY to Florida. New York crew was smoking drugs, didn't bring enough boxes or wrapping paper. Tossed everything in boxes. Hustled me to pay them a big tip or otherwise stuff would get even more damaged or disappear. I'm suing this company for damages in court. I don't know if it is possible to find good movers in NYC. Altough I paid top dollars, I received terrible service. I'm said every day since the move as I'm missing several items and others are damaged beyond repair. Stay away from these people. read more

Madison gave a great quote, a tad under $3000, we set the date, June 5, 2018. They checked the zip codes and everything looked good and checked out! The dispatcher was to call 1 to 2 days before to confirm their arrival time. He only did so after I called him. We were sitting among the furniture and boxes - all prepared. He said, "Sorry. We are not coming. You are not where we can come for a least 2 to 3 weeks. If you really need us then we can send a truck out from San Francisco that can be there tomorrow late afternoon for $1300 more." I replied we had a signed contract, they already had $1100 of my money. The salesperson used the map to plan our move and gave us the thumbs up. He said, "Sorry. You can have money back but it will take a day or so to process the return or you can wait for me to call you in 2 or 3 weeks or longer." Sorry! That isn't good enough! So... we checked out Hireahelper.com and moved the next week for under $1500. We had to supply the truck, they did everything else. So than you Madison for the lesson! read more

I hope this honest review will help someone who needs a moving company in order to choose the right one for their needs. Pros: I received all of my furniture and boxes in a timely manner. The pick-up crew were very nice and professional movers. Cons: The drop-off crew were not professional movers. I had some minor snags and scrapes on my furniture. Also, I was charged extra money for a long carry. A long carry is when the truck driver has to park 75 feet from the drop-off area. By contract the truck driver ( carrier) does not have to report this money to Madison Van Lines. I was charged an extra $650 in cash the morning of the delivery. There seems to be no guide lines about this long carry charge, so you could be charged "any price." The driver pockets this cash and more than likely does not report it to the IRS. Consumer Reports put Madison Van Lines in the top 5 best moving companies. Wow....I would hate to know how the worst moving companies operate! read more

I contacted this company a month in advance for an interstate move. The lady I spoke with was great, we made the arrangements, set up the time period, I paid 1/3 cost. She was to call me the following week and she didn't. Come to find out, she got sick. But her coworkers didn't pick up the slack until I was calling and chasing them down. TWO DAYS BEFORE THE MOVE... they call and cancel on me. Their company had overbooked because my original contact had gotten sick and nobody else followed up on me as a client. They then could then not find another company that would take the job, and certainly not at the last minute. I contacted Madison Van Lines during a very stressful and peak time, for a last minute move. My sister needed to move from South Florida to Winston Salem, NC. Everything was happening so fast and i needed someone to pack her things. I spoke to a young lady named Maggie, she verbally walked me through my sisters home room for room and we went through every small detail. She then emailed me an estimate that seemed very reasonable. Her account Manager Jill checked in with me the day before the move to see if I had any changes or concerns. When the movers got here they were extremely prepared for the packing of all my sisters things. We did have a few more boxes i missed during the estimate and the driver explained to me the additional charge will be based on the cubic feet the boxes take up. Luckily Jill and Maggie prepared me thoroughly and this was not a major increase. The truck was clean and the drivers remained professional through the move. I was told the estimated delivery would be 5-7 days, and on the 5th day we received a call from the driver that they would be there Monday (Yesterday) We just finished unpacking her and all is well. There were a few boxes that were slightly damaged in the transit process but everything inside was packed perfectly so no damage to the things inside. We will certainly be using them again when my fiance and I move up here. read more

Do NOT use Madison Van Lines!!! They are a broker that claims to be highly skilled and professional, but they are probably the worst moving company with whom I've ever had the misfortune of working. I recently used them to move from NY to FL. I provided my inventory with exact dimensions of everything, including all boxes and furniture. I was quoted a final price of $1,906. I even confirmed with their representative Jill the day before my move my exact inventory, and she still said everything would be $1,906. To my surprise, when NYC Movers came to pick up all of my belongings, I was told my price was actually $3,000! When I questioned this, I was told that even though my inventory was 100% correct, that the Madison Van Lines representative totally undercut my total cubic footage. After six weeks of going back and forth with them, they are now trying to deny any responsibility for this. I am moving forward with legal action against them, as they breached the contract and have been extremely unresponsive. I also submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, as their unscrupulous and unethical/shady business practices need to be shutdown! I don't want any other potential customers to fall victim to this horrible, deceptive moving broker, so beware! read more

MVL are brokers. They have no say with any aspect of the move. Maggie is never available on the phone and all calls will go to voice mail. The initial estimate provided is based on thin air. Unless you have an on-site visit, your estimates will vary by 300-500%. MVL will provide you zero help and you are at the mercy of the actual movers (Ocean movers in my case) for the entire move. Oh and if you get your move insured with them, best of luck getting hold of them to raise a claim read more

DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!!! If I could give zero stars I would! Here's the NIGHTMARE that happened to me: I called in on 7/31 and got Glen on the phone and he said that they do not do in-house quotes because we can simply talk through my items and the price he'll give me will be the FINAL price. That should have been red flag #1. He guaranteed that the movers take apart the items that needed to be disassembled and wrap up any left-over items not in boxes. He said that upon arrival, they would put all my furniture where I'd like it to go in my home and reassemble my furniture. Sounded great. I was doing a cross-country move and was quoted $3,500 for everything which sounded very reasonable. I was told I'd have to leave a deposit of 1/3 the cost of the move ($1,150). Red flag #2. I hadn't done that before, but thought maybe some moving companies worked that way. I let him know that I wanted my things delivered by September 1st and was even willing to pay a bit more to guarantee that delivery date, but he said that as long as the movers picked up my stuff 10 days prior, that delivery date would NOT be an issue. At first, I scheduled the pick up for August 27th and thought I would just deal with the later delivery date, but then decided to change it to August 21st to be sure I would get my things over labor day weekend. I emailed Glen to modify the pickup date, but never received a response. A day later I tried to email again, still nothing. Red flag #3. I finally got him the following day and asked that we change the pickup date to 8/21 and he said he would get that updated. On 8/8 I texted him to ask what approximate time the movers planned to come on 8/21 so that I could reserve the freight elevator in my building (it tended to get booked well in advance). His response was "Your pickup is not scheduled until 8/27 so I'm confused about what you're asking for?" I called him immediately and said that we just spoke about moving my date being 8/21? He said, "oh yeah, let me update that in the system". Red flag #4. He said to go ahead and reserve the elevator for 9AM - 1PM as the movers will for sure be there between that time (btw they charge an extra $75 for the use of an elevator). I was told that I would receive a call on 8/19 regarding the pickup details, but by the afternoon of 8/20 I still had heard nothing. I reached out to him asking when I was expecting to hear something and he responded with a text in all caps stating that I'll get an email about it later that day. The email I received was from Jill stating that the movers would be there from 12PM - 2PM. I told her that they needed to come from 9AM - 1PM as that was the time I reserved the freight elevator for. She emailed back saying that they would come from 7AM - 9AM. I once again told her that that time would not work and it needed to be between the hours of 9AM - 1PM. Red flag #5. She finally said they would come from 10AM - 12PM. When they came around 11:30AM, there were three guys. I have a two-bedroom apartment with EVERYTHING packed and ready to go except for my bed (which takes 10 minutes to disassemble) and a high-top table that takes 5 minutes to disassemble. I took them almost 3 hours to get done and one of the movers was singing out loud the entire time. Unprofessional. Fast forward to 8/29: I texted Glen asking if we were still looking at September 1st as the delivery date and asked if a morning drop off would be possible. He said yes and that he put in my time request. On 8/31 I texted him to let him know that I had not received an email regarding my delivery time for 9/1. He responded "Drop off? I thought you were just getting picked up?". WHAT?!? He asked who told me it would be delivered on 9/1... HIM! I responded to him saying that he said, and I quote, "as long as the movers get my stuff by August 21st, a delivery date of 9/1 should not be a problem". He then proceeds to text me that there was never a guarantee of a specific delivery date and that it's impossible to drive across the country in that amount of time. He then called me and LAUGHED AT ME about how I thought it would be delivered on 9/1. I was not able to get a word in edge-wise and he said, "are you listening to yourself?" in between laughing. He said that he would call me the morning of 9/1 to give an update. The morning of 9/1, no call. I finally called him and he said he was waiting to hear from dispatch and that I should talk to Jill because she would know more. I called her and she said that no one really works on Saturdays so she wouldn't know anything until Monday. She stated that they have 21 business days to get me my stuff per the contract. I told her that this is not what was told to me and that I expected my stuff the following week. You could tell she did not care about the delay and had no plans to make this right. On Monday, she said my stuff was still in storage at a hub and there was no driver to bring it and there was nothing they could do about it. read more

They are a moving broker not doing the actual move themselves so there were a ton of miscommunications between them and the actual company that moved our stuff about every aspect of our cross country move. It's been well over a month now, and no show. Trying to get to a higher up to discuss this issue is with is impossible. No calls to tell us where our belongings actually are. Do NOT use Madison Van Lines I hired them to transport some artwork and furniture from Florida to California. They packed a 75 pound metal disk with an expensive acrylic painting and ruined both. Because of the weight of the metal disk, the acrylic paint came off the painting. They didn't put any protective wrap around it and it shouldn't have been packed in the same box with a heavy metal piece of art. They packed an antique chest, took the drawers out and lost the drawers. The glass broke on five different pieces of art. They broke the mechanism on our wood dining room table. I sent photos, they said they'd search for the drawers, but I never heard back from them. I filed a claim for my loss and I heard NOTHING back from them. They didn't reimburse me for any of the damage and loss they caused. The packing was sloppy, the delivery equally as bad, if not worse. The customer service non existent. This is the most unprofessional moving company I've ever used!!! read more

It's been almost a year now since our move from NJ using Madison Van Lines (Boca​ rep). I am still finding boxes missing and items that have disappeared. HORRIBLE. If you're thinking of using them -- rent a POD! Their quote was significantly less than the final price. Furniture came in broken. It was a nightmare. I moved from Westerville Ohio to Riverside California. The movers were friendly and on time but too many things arrived severely damaged and/or unable to be repaired ie., mini frig footing broken and dented in the back, ie tears in leather chair, scuff marks on high end bedroom furniture, 2 broken floor lamps. My belongings must have been sitting out in the rain at some time because my ping pong table had water streaked marks on it and my box spring had a water line on it! Both were purchased brand new. So if your just moving some things and want to take the risk of damage way beyond what they can reimburse, they're great. It really wasn't the reimbursement, in the end it was that my property was not handled well. They can only reimburse .60 per pound. So if you were moving a dining table with 8 chairs and one chair is damaged beyond repair, you'll only get .60 time the weight of the chair, $5, and left with a incomplete dining set. If you moving things that could get damaged, get the extra insurance. Not sure what that would have covered. read more

Absolutely awful. First they raised their "estimate" price by 50% after arriving at the house. I understand being a little off but adding 6 thousand dollars after arriving is ridiculous! Then they flat out lied to our faces when telling us they had to unload and would return for our items and NEVER came back! We were closing on our house a week later and eventually had to rely on friends and family to collect our items so the new homeowners could move in! Now we are in South Carolina closing on our house and they have just informed us they have no idea when they can deliver even though we had an agreed upon delivery date 2 months ago! Madison Van Lines. Where do I begin? It has been a little over 3 weeks now since I moved from Tennessee, and it took me roughly that much time to get my apartment adjusted because of this moving company. If you're going back and forth about whether to use this company, take my advice and keep searching. After a long search I landed on this company because they gave me the cheapest price, which ended up being worthless because I still paid an extra $500 in the end. I booked my move with a guy named Glen. I later found out that he was let go from this company although I had been contacting him about changes in my move and the details for when my things would arrive. He did not communicate vital details about the move that were important to know as I got to my apartment. So, now I'm going to tell you how this process really works. That way there will be no confusion. 1. When you choose this moving company pick the date you want your things to be moved, the exact day! Then ask them when your things will need to be picked up in order to get them on the day you choose. They may tell you that it will take 3 days. IT WILL NOT TAKE 3 DAYS! It actually can take up to 21 days, so plan accordingly. 2. Before you sign any document with this company read the paperwork they send you in its entirety. Do not skip lines, do not skim, read every word because when you call and tell them they suck, they will say, "well if you notice on the paperwork we gave you at the very bottom in 7pt font it states". Even if they repeatedly call you and text you a million times to persuade you to sign the document, DO NOT SIGN IT UNTIL YOU ARE CLEAR ABOUT EVERYTHING. 3. Count all your boxes, take picture, remember everything because they will not. They are going to write it down in a way that makes no sense and in maybe 21 days you won't remember what it means when all your things show up, smashed in, and crumbled at 11:30p. 4. This company is a broker, BROKER!!, which means they are 9/10 not even handling your things. They are going to make a bid with another company that is going in that direction, and whoever wins gets the pleasure of moving your belongings. So, when the nice men come and box your things up perfectly and place things on the truck in an organized fashion while you watch impressed, your things will not come back to you like that. You may never see these men again. 2-3 new movers will show up will all your belongings in a random truck, that may or may not be in good condition, and when they open the truck do not be surprised if your things look disheveled and unrecognizable. Now, I say all this to say... most of these companies are going to present an amazing plan to you that seems surreal. Well, most of these companies are just trying to get your money and are not about great customer service. So, research early and thoroughly and read every detail so you know what you're paying for. Ask questions, write all your things down, and don't tolerate a bunch of mess. read more

Quite possibly the worst customer service since AOL. If you do not have a special order you may be fine but if you have a special request they will lie through their teeth. Non-apologetic bold face lies. We had condo association guidelines and work hour issues and they told my wife they could abide by that. We called the day before they were scheduled to arrive and they said they weren't coming. Not only did they lie about making the specified date they weren't even going to call and let us know. Jill, the manager told me they were going to "set this right" and asked me "how they can make this better", I asked for them to be on time and she said they couldn't do that. I asked for them to cover my missed wages and they said they could not. Lip service and lies. Thinking I was an idiot she kept asking me to look at the paperwork. It says they aren't liable for the time they show up. What she didn't realize is that has nothing to do with what we were told. A company that suggests you buy their insurance and cannot promise to be on time (after the fact) has no business even saying they have customer service. Lets start with the price - it doubled even though i accurately explained all our belongings - from 9,000 to over 16,000 at the end of the ordeal! Next they damaged many pieces of our furniture, You would NOT believe what the delivery truck looked like upon arrival! Our 1700 mattress on top of our lawnmower NOT even wrapped up all the way! Then days later we find out 5 of our boxes are in Seattle 9 hours from us, with tax forms in them-do they even care? NO!!! - instead they pass blame to their broker company - something they assured us they would NOT do! - and NOW in unpacking we find a box of a war hero and his son both killed in action - in our house! We hired Madison Van lines to move my 93 year old mother from California to Missouri. Because she had a small load we were informed that her things would be moved to a storage area until they had a full truckload. We did not know that for a small loads they subcontract out so it wasn't Madison Van lines that even delivered her things. Best Moving company was a joke from start to finish first of all they did not arrive until dark to pick up my mom's things then they were in a holding area for at least three weeks then they tried to pressure us into delivering on Thanksgiving day which we did not do. Then to top things off she had broken things in multiple boxes that were irreplaceable a wicker planter that was over 100 years old that didn't arrive along with a box that is missing. Of course we put in a claim and our award was $49.80. Really an insult I have repeatedly called Madison van lines Maggie was our original contact I guess she's no longer there because we got redirected to Jill who told me that once they subcontract out they no longer have any responsibility but she would put me in touch with customer service to see if they could help. I got an email from Jeremy in customer service advising me they would check into things on our behalf that was February 18 I have not heard anything from them I have called back to Madison Van lines and I just get the automated message.
