Wow. Just wow. We've been in Barcelona for almost two years now. We've found a couple of places with good pizza, but they are both across town from where we live. Now we've found a GREAT, authentic pizza, and it's on our side of town! It turns out this place has earned its chops. The proprietors are "pizzaioli napolitanos." They understand the beauty and simplicity of a properly made pizza. They understand the dough, from its recipe to its execution. They understand that you don't need to offer hundreds of varieties of pizza, when a dozen or so, well-made, will satisfy. Their menu features Neapolitan pizzas, calzones, lasagna and salads. We opted for the Quattro Stagioni (four seasons) pizza, featuring a spicy salami, sweet ham, artichoke hearts and mushrooms with mozzarella, basil and a tomato sauce worthy of its Neapolitan heritage. The thin crust had the perfect amount of burn marks, courtesy of their wood-fired oven. Our Caprese Salad of tomato slices interspersed with mozzarella, fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil was spot-on. My wife loved the light Italian wine they recommended to her to accompany the pizza. Yum! Our server, Andrea, a young man also from Naples, KNOWS his stuff and was a delight to talk to. We were pressed for time (our movie was starting soon, a ten-minute walk from the restaurant), so we skipped dessert. I love Barcelona, and usually the restaurants here are great, unfortunately that is the last thing I can say about this place.... We walked in because we noticed the brick oven. We were there with another two couples around lunch time. The menu was OK, not a huge thing, but it was obvious to us that we want to have a piece of something that comes out of the oven. We were supposed to eat out with friends that night so we weren't planning on eating a lot, just to fill our stomach a little. When we asked about the size of the personal pizza the waitress made it look so small it was obvious to us that we should pick something larger, and we can't share. My boyfriend ordered the large pizza and I ordered their "special" which is basically pizza, folded to it's half with whatever toppings you had inside of it. I got my dish first, and it had ingredients I didn't asked for, the waitress took it back and meanwhile my boyfriend got his. The pizza was huge! Big enough to share and leave out a slice or two. I really can't understand the point of having customers order more that they can eat, it's a waste of food! Right before he was done eating I got my dish, the right way this time... The food was absolutely tasteless. Their tomato sauce is disgusting, it had nothing more than crushed tomatoes, no salt or even oregano were in the blend, there was no salt or pepper on the table to make this thing go down your throat. I did came in for the bread I guess but I expected someone on or in it. You can see the picture and judge for yourself. My dish, was plain bread, the cheese wasn't completely melted, even though I was waiting for it quite a while. (The first time I got it was super fast) As for our waitress, it was pointless to say anything after we told her about the wrong ingredients in my food and the fact that she misguided us about the size of the pizza. Add to that the fact that the place just keep getting full with customers that have no idea how they will regret coming in here. It took us 15 minutes to get the bill and another 7 to get it back. Probably our favorite meal while in Barcelona. Everything was so delicious, made with fresh ingredients and perfect portions. The customer service was top notch. So friendly, so willing to talk to us about the food. They made us feel welcome and despite the fact that we got there pretty late and stayed until after the restaurant was closed, they never made us feel rushed - as a matter of fact, they would come to our table to chat and share an after meal drink with us. This is for me, the best italian restaurant in Barcelona. The pizzas are great, but everything I've tried so far is amazingly good. The ingredients are super fresh, and include some italian classics like burrata or bresaola, that I really can't find anywhere else. You tend to overeat and feel stuffed afterwards, because everything looks so good that you order more than you can eat. read more

Madre Lievito is possibly the most popular Pizzeria in Poblenou and as it is about 3 minutes off the Rambla the clientele are mostly local, that said, it's normally full so best to book a table or choose to go very early in the evening or late in the afternoon. The quality & value is unbeatable.....that said, there is a core staff that are great to deal with, but there seems to be a high turnover of table staff who can sometimes be unsure of the menu or even where they are or where you are. If you can't get a table, order a take away & enjoy it on the beach or on a bench ....it's worth it. read more

I never give bad reviews, but this was the worst service in a restaurant in my life. It took over 90 minutes for us to get our pizza. Other tables that were seated after us got their pizza well before us. When we asked why, we were told that since we ordered appetizers they served others their pizza first. The manager said they can only cook 3 pizzas at a time, so the process is slow. We had young children with us and everyone was hungry and miserable. The pizza was bland and soggy which made the wait extra disappointing. Sad note in an otherwise awesome trip to Barcelona. read more

I cannot even count how many times we have ordered pizza for takeaway...It is usually a weekly visit! Our favorites include the Margarita and Vegetarian pizza, as well as the Rucola salad.
