Madres Modern Mexico used to be Tequila Modern Mexico when they were located in Cincinnati, Ohio. I gave them an amazing review as Tequila Modern Mexico quickly became my favorite restaurant, but they moved and changed their name. That was fine with me. I was still willing to drive the extra distance for the restaurant I loved so much, but what's not fine is that they advertised on SweetDeals.com by offering $50.00 gift certificates for $25.00. They later sold $50.00 gift certificates for $5.99, when the timeline would suggest they knew they were relocating. They now refuse to honor all their gift certificates under the old name, while still advertising on Sweetdeals.com and offering new $50.00 gift certificates for $25.00 under their new name. So, everyone who needs to switch out those Tequila Modern gift certificates for the new Madres Modern gift certificates will have to pay an additional $15.80 service fee that SweetDeals.com charges. The food at the Cincinnati location was very good, but the owners of this establishment are lacking in integrity, which I do not appreciate. I believe they should honor the old gift certificates or compensate their customers in a way to offset the additional expense we are now being forced to pay. It's just good business. read more

I had been really excited for this place to open since I live around the corner but unfortunately we had a really disappointing experience. We came in around 9pm on a Friday, and it wasn't busy at all. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before our server came over. The service from that point on was very strange and disorganized. She immediately asked if we wanted to order food before ever asking about drinks, even though we both planned to order alcohol. We went ahead and ordered queso as an appetizer, assuming chips and salsa would be brought out like they were for every other table around us. A food runner eventually brought the queso out, but we still had no chips to eat it with and still had not been asked about drinks. Several minutes later, our server returned only to ask if we were ready to order entrees. We had to stop her to ask for drinks and chips ourselves. Even after asking, she continued helping other tables before bringing us anything, and we never received the complimentary salsa that every other table seemed to get. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing too. My boyfriend received the wrong enchiladas entirely, and my flautas were dry and missing the pineapple sauce listed on the menu. At that point, we decided not to say anything because service had already taken so long and the whole interaction felt uncomfortable. To finish things off, the check was dropped on the table without asking if we wanted anything else. We would have ordered another round of drinks, but instead decided to pay and leave. Overall, the experience felt very odd and inattentive, especially considering how expensive everything was for the quality and portion sizes. Madres was just okay. It was nothing to write home about. My friend and I went for dinner and tried the shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas. The description listed potatoes in the meal but didn't call out the bacon and ham that was also topped on it. I was definitely disappointed for the extra pork and it was lacking flavor. The cucumber margarita was so syrupy I didn't even drink it. Our server was great and attentive and the restaurant overall was a nice vibe. I personally would not return here. read more

A great place to come and chill with friends or family. We were able to sit outside even though they only have a few tables. The queso here is really great. We got the tequilla dip appetizer and it was a great start to our meal. The pico that came with it was so delicous! It was homemade and I could definitely tell, I wish they gave you this just with chips that is how good it was. I eneded up getting the burrito ala parilla and the steak was nice and tender. Went here with a buddy after being curious about this new spot. Very disappointed in food quality, timeliness of service, and the margarita pitcher. Service: very friendly, but took close to 30 min to get our drinks and apps and it was NOT busy. Saw multiple people get orders who came in later, apologies came but nothing else after multiple (itll be here in 5 min) Pitcher is $40 but they fill with ice and barely fills 2 of their small glasses. Pitcher only makes sense if it gives 4 drinks. I ordered street tacos and it was just meat on a taco shell. Way different than photos online, and waitress acted surprised when I asked why there weren't more. It was overpriced, food took along time to come, and eventually apologies stop meaning anything. Especially after the second 'it'll be out in under 5 minutes'. Save yourself money and go to Chipotle, or go to Fridas in Covington. This was a very disappointing meal. Ambiance was nice. But that doesn't keep a restaurant in business. read more

This place is such a vibe!!! Good music, free chips and salsa and fresh margs! All marg fruit purées are made in house and they're delicious. Definitely get the strawberry marg with tajin rim. We also enjoyed the house cheese dip, fresh guac and vegetarian enchiladas with mole sauce. Super flavorful and shareable. Food came out quick and the staff were very attentive! I absolutely love being the one to try a new place when I see one open, and this was no different. I came in expecting the staff to be prepared and the food to be hot and top-notch, making a great first impression. Unfortunately, this experience told a different story. My boyfriend came here the week before and said the food was incredible, but the service was poorly organized. He ordered through DoorDash and went to pick it up, and they told him they never received the order. The owner even pulled out his phone to show there were no DoorDash orders, only for the order to be sitting right there at the top of the screen. Awkward... but they quickly made the food and it ended up being delicious. Fast forward to our own to-go order and we had a very similar experience. I actually suggested we order at the bar just in case the order got lost again and honestly, we probably should have. When we arrived and asked about our order, the same guy (who we're assuming was the owner) quickly rushed to the back and was gone for quite a while. At that point we settled in because it was clear, once again, the order hadn't been prepared yet. Once the food was finally ready, he sent out a very nice waitress to bring it to us, which was probably for the best because my boyfriend was getting frustrated. We expected at least a quick apology or acknowledgment of the repeated issue, but that never happened. The food is incredible, it truly is and I honestly raved about it. I would absolutely order the quesadillas again if the service matched the quality of the food. Third time's a charm, so I'll be placing another DoorDash order at least once more because the location is so convenient. I'm really hoping next time turns into a full 5-star experience. read more

Chips and salsa were fresh and actually worth eating, not just filler. The shrimp appetizer was really good, kind of giving BLT energy with the sauce, lettuce, and tomato when you eat it together. Birria tacos were solid. Only thing missing for me was fresh cilantro and onions on the side, but the consommé did have some onions in it. Margaritas were good. Here's the truth- their food is wonderful! The chips are nice and light, and their guacomole is so fresh and delicious. Come to think of it- everything we ordered was fresh and delicious!! We also got the Mexicano Alambre and the Steak Burrito. Mmm mmm. It was so cute inside with all the pink flowers and the bar looks nice and cozy. Dinned in for dinner last night and we enjoyed dinner (except for the service). Food was great, menu has a lot of variety and margs were very good. It couldn't have been half full and the service left a lot to be desired. A waiter brought chips over and then didn't stop back for close to 20 minutes. Waters didn't get dropped off for another 5-10 minutes. My tacos came out with the wrong toppings but decided it was okay given how long everything had taken. read more

The salsa was different, with a pleasant flavor including some bitter notes, indicating the presence of Guajillo chile. I ordered the Enchiladas India Maria. The salsa is complex & obviously house made but not even a tiny hint of heat or much taste. We struggled to find many options under $20 for lunch. Some were as much as $40+. About $40 for lunch for 2, with just water to drink. We had enchiladas -any Mexican restaurant should be able to handle that. The chicken was fresh and moist but the sauces were all very bland. Not just a lack of heat but missing flavor. Three enchiladas each got us one side of rice and one of beans to share although the meals cost the same. The table wobbled BADLY. Servers were nice. We started with the elote and Tres Amores (3 ceviche versions) - both incredible. I had the fajita quesadilla and my husband had the Molcajete. Both were fantastic - lots of flavor.
