I really enjoyed my salmon burger with fries for dinner. At first we were crazy disappointed because they ran out of chicken and we both wanted chicken burgers. But that outrage led me to inquire about the salmon burgers that other Yelpers have posted and raved about. Apparently that's only on their lunch menu, but the waitress without hesitation let me know that they can absolutely make that for me. I LOVED it. Dinner price was $18, in case you're wondering. Yeah, more than their lunch price. Don't matter. It was delicious and I'd definitely want to order it again should I ever return to vaca here. Fries were great and they gave us plenty. The salad we ordered to share was a nice portion and yummie. The hummus Appetizer was a pleasant surprise as they serve it with lots of veggies and hot peppers. So good. The hummus itself was a 3 out of 5. But didn't bother me cause of VEGGIES. Bf liked his burger but definitely had craved chicken. But it all worked out. I think for price and portion and taste of food this place is a go-to spot. The girl next to us wasn't pleased. I'm guessing she is never pleased no matter where she goes. She had ordered a burger and was a plethora of complaints. The couple at our B&B said they liked this place, but the pregnant wife indicated the food portions were huge. Interesting. If I were the owners I would immediately fire your front of house manager. I ordered the salmon and it was so salty I had to send it back. I ordered that salad instead and they sent it out with rotten lettuce, my father in law ordered the clam chowder and it was very runny. Finally the hostess and bus boy were coming to our table so frequently to try to take dishes away that it became uncomfortable. When we articulated this to the manager on duty her response was well what do you want me to do about it? I told her to please pass this feedback along as to improve the customer service for the next people. Unfortunately we will not be returning. read more

I called back w our order at 7:35p. and was now told in a very rude way that the kitchen closed at 7:30p. When I told the hostess that I had just called in and was told 7:45. She said that was probably the bartender--he doesn't make the food--the kitchen does and they said they close at 7:30. Very maddening. read more

With a few hours to kill before the ferry reservation, we hung out in Eastsound and eventually found our way to the madrona cafe. Nice little spot with a great deck for sunset dinners, a good bar with great seasonal cocktails, and great food. Clam chowder, wild salmon, and the salads were all great options, though apparently the scallops special would've been great too (but sold out early in the day). Service was a bit rough. Polite and nice enough, but just took forever to get initial service for drinks, and the another age before the drinks arrived (in tandem with the appetizer salads). But given the quality of the food and drinks once served, I'd give it another try. read more

The food is OK, the service is OK, the setting is nice, the prices are high. Not a lot of choices on the island and this one is really middle of the road. You can get the same food at the tavern with the same views for less money. read more

A friend and I went to dinner, and were seated fairly quickly. Waitress Susan got us water. It went downhill from there! 20 minutes later we had to flag her down asking if we could order. We asked to have split checks as we were wanting to use two different charge cards. She said no that wasn't possible but then said she should be able to work it out. After ordering two burgers, we waited another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. On a positive note, the burgers were very good. Not once were we asked if we would like a refill on our water. The food was very good but the service was very poor! Needless to say, we only got one bill, as I guess its just to difficult to split up a check for two people. :( Ridiculous. I received some very poor customer service tonight. We made a reservation for 4:30 pm for a party of 6 and specifically asked to be seated outside as two of our party were at risk. We were told that would be no problem. We don't live close to the restaurant and it takes us two hours to get there. When we arrived the server informed us that it was too cold to seat us outside. I asked the manager to honor our reservation she also repeated that it was too cold. When I assured her that we didn't mind and were dressed warm, she told us that the door being open would make it too cold for the other customers. When I told her we didn't mind the door staying closed she said she was unable to accommodate that. When I asked her why nobody had informed us she said that "someone should have". The right thing to do would have been to seat us. They made the mistake. They should have made it right for us. They refused and in doing so really messed up our evening. Be careful if you choose to patronize this restaurant. read more

Perfect dining location right on the bay. Listen to the waves roll and enjoy the majestic views of the island. Had a midday Bloody Mary and split pulled pork sandwich as well as blue cheese bacon burger. Both were juicy and full of flavor. Clam chowder is to die for. My Bloody Mary was practically perfect with pickled vegetables...just the way I like it. Atmosphere warms you up with hardwood floors, wood tables, bar and beams. Dine inside or outside on their balcony. Service is friendly, fast and personable. We will return. read more

I had heard so many wonderful things about this place, but was sad to find everything about my experience to be lacking. I ordered takeout, and it took far longer than it should have. The staff wasn't overly friendly, which was frustrating given how long the wait was. I then got instructed to not look so sad (which was really just bored and hungry). Once I finally got my food (veggie burger and Guinness portobello sandwich), the lackluster experience continued. The burger gained most of its flavor from the overabundance of mayonnaise, and the sandwich... was essentially a burger! If you're going to have a sandwich, at least make it on good sandwich bread - not the exact same mediocre burger bun as everything else. To top it all off, everything was severely overpriced for the quality. This just leads me to conclude that the only acceptable place for a fast and delicious burger on the island is The Lower Tavern. read more

We found this to be a perfectly enjoyable spot to grab a late lunch after a day-long hike. We were able to eat and have a few beers while looking out over the water. Food: Helen G. another reviewer has this spot on when she said that there is nothing special. It was good enough and we would go back when we are in the area. Decore: The view from the deck is stunning. Highly recommend that you sit out on the deck, if the weather permits it. Inside is a bar, nothing to write home about. Service: Excellent. I wish I didn't have to give any stars... but since I have to the one star is for the view.... and the bottled beer that they only had to open. We went there before heading back to Seattle bc we were craving oysters. The view was gorgeous but that is about all this restaurant had going for them. The food was gross and the server gave herself an extra $10. The server was awful! We had to ask for water 3 times... a lime 2 times when we ended up getting it from the bar and then she steels $10?? They have yet to give me my refund... I will continue to call until I do.... If you still decide to eat here I would I suggest drinking the beer... that way you will not be disappointed and leave cash and watch out for the girl who looks like she is 12 but really 29... she likes to add tips on your bill!!! read more

From the point we sat down to the point we got food was well over 45 minutes. 2) Water glasses went empty and stayed empty the entire meal. We didn't order beverages. When we flagged down a female employee, she didn't understand English and had to ask our server to help us. 3) When it came time for the check, it took about 15 minutes. He passed our table 6 times until I waved the folio in the air to get his attention (all this while the two female employees that didn't speak English were standing by the register doing nothing - except giggling. This was the worst service I've had in years. The food wasn't much better. We waited over AN HOUR for an after-lunchtime meal, while watching family after family get paraded into their seats? What are we, chopped liver? The burgers were burned. The dressing on the salad was too slight. When we asked for more dressing (when we finally got the staff's attention)...it took 20 minutes to get it to the table. We spent nearly 3 hours trying to get seated and fed and wasted a perfectly good afternoon of our vacation. This staff needs a primer in customer service. They don't have a clue. read more

Welp, this place was a flop.... expensive and not great. Although the clams look good they were awful. The clams themselves were fresh, but the sauce was awful, and when approached about it, they lied saying it was just butter,when it clearly wasn't. It was hard to get them down. We looked for several places before ending up here. The others didn't look as appealing or were closed down. We both had the bbq pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on a potato bun. It was sloppy (moist towelettes should be provided) & the sauce was a little spicy but otherwise the coleslaw helped make the sandwich. Fries were good & crispy. The mixed greens side salad was fresh. The atmosphere was nice. Several tables had waterfront views. Service was somewhat slow for not being very busy during the lunch hour. We didn't have reservations for dinner, so we ended up here. The view over the sound was very nice, the staff friendly and we received good service. We had the fish and chips, crab cakes, a burger, and a locally made ravioli. The ravioli had a mustard sauce which was unique and tasty. Fish and chips and the burger were good quality. The crab cakes were okay, we probably would have liked them better if we hadn't had phenomenal crab cakes at another restaurant the night before. Four of us sat at the bar to eat dinner rather than wait an hour for a table. I had a guiness grilled portabella mushroom sandwich with onion rings. Portion was on the small side and the sandwich was decent. If you can sit by the window and overlook Eastsound, do that. We stopped here for lunch while making a brief visit to the island. We split a fried oyster po boy and crab bisque. The po boy wasn't prepared in the way we had had them before at other places, which made it better. The oysters appeared to be pan fried rather than deep fried, which allowed the fresh oyster taste to still come through. It was topped with a dill and cabbage slaw that was also very tasty and added texture to the sandwich. The crab bisque was good but had no significant pieces of crab in it. Beautiful view especially on the deck. Server Jon was top notch, just...wow. Gave recommendations, funny and prompt. The gal that brought the food, spilled the au jus all over the plate, drowned the sandwiches which were soggy. The au jus was super salty, loved the fries though. If we were hungrier would have ordered the chop chop salad, which we have ordered before and was very good. Pretty price for average food. read more

Was looking forward to a nice meal for our anniversary dinner but was disappointed. We asked if they had any availability to sit outside and the hostess said nothing until 7:30. This was understandable since it was a Saturday night, so no problem we waited the 40 minutes and returned at 7:30. We were next in line but they proceeded to seat the next two groups who came after us and then sat us inside saying they didn't have any tables outside. Very disappointing. Crab Bisque was so-so. Calamari wasn't bad. Now to entree... Scallop Penne: scallops were fresh and well prepared. Pasta in which it was served was a bit too spicy. But overall, 4/5. Chicken Fettuccine: Stay away from it. Chicken breast was dry. Pasta was very oily. And the smell of it just killed my appetite. We ended up not eating it. When manager asked if we did not like it, I did not want to be rude and said I am full, but my wife told him it wasn't good. Our waitress, who delivered good service, did remove it from check, even though I told her she does not have to. Let me summarize just in case you didn't believe the previous reviews... 1. Long waits because nothing else is open during the week late in the evening. 2. Good food but severely overpriced. 3. Mind-numbingly oblivious and forgetful greeters and wait staff. We've eaten here twice and both times were because nothing else was open at a late hour. Both times the greeter was rude or maybe just oblivious due to age? Two different girls, very young and not aware of what needed to happen in a restaurant. Even had to ask to see a menu! We waited for 15 minutes before even seeing a waiter and had to ask the greet staff for water. Food is good, severely overpriced but portions are large (definitely splittable). Both times we were there our orders were missed or severely wrong. Like, we ordered, pasta and they gave my husband the steak. But, they did eventually bring out the pasta he ordered after finding out that was not what he ordered, it was just after I had finished my meal. So sad. Our waiter apologized profusely and they comped us desert for the mistake. We will eat here again, only because it will probably be the only thing open late at night. :( read more

We stopped at the Madrona Bar and Grill before heading to catch our ferry. This was our dinner and it was sublime. From the succulent sweet clams to the chicken fettucine we were in heaven. Everything was cooked to perfect and presentation was outstanding. Speaking of presentation, the addition of the sweeping views of Fishing Bay from the Madrona topped our early evening dinner off with a hit. Nothing special about the food. Mediocre bar food. I had the fish & chips (cod), and my partner had a burger that she said was okayish. It wasn't awful or anything, just nothing to write home about - or reorder. The beer selection was okay. The service was all right. Again, it wasn't stellar but it wasn't atrocious. We sat at a table at the bar. The bartender seemed nice enough but definitely the bar area gave us a middle-aged bro vibe, which is meh. Just felt like a typical pub. But, the views were spectacular. The restaurant is right off the bay, and the large windows offer a beautiful sight. If you're looking for an ordinary bar, I would recommend this place for that reason alone. read more

What a great location overlooking the water! There are not too many places in Eastsound that offer that ambiance. The feel of the interior is somewhat like a pub with lots of dark wood. I ordered a seafood salad that was gererous in size and nicely presented. Others in my party ordered fish and chips, a burger, and seafood linguine. I would say that all the dishes were enjoyed with the exception of the linguine. The sauce was thick and heavy and just wasn't very good. Service was timely and friendly and overall we enjoyed ourselves.q read more
