Visited twice during our stay on the island. There was always a line when we visited, but it would move along quickly (~15 min for baked goods, longer for coffee). Definitely an influx of customers based on ferry arrival times. Plain croissant was alright, and we really enjoyed the peach croissant. Peach was from a jar, but tasty nevertheless. Fantastic ham and leek quiche. There was also an apple sausage pastry, which contained a split chicken apple sausage. Not the best room temp, and would probably pass on this. Would recommend any quiche, as well as interesting flavor combos that stand out to you. If you do order a savory, would recommend taking it home to heat up. Some staples, but a rotating array of pastries between our two visits. Before we left, stopped by again and got the orange morning bun - very tasty. Could definitely taste the orange zest in the sugar. Had I access to a toaster oven, this would have been even more incredible... Super friendly staff! Some indoor seating (couple tables, more outdoor covered/uncovered seating). Buss your own plates/flatware.

Can't go wrong if you're looking for something savory or sweet. Great quiches, great pastries, great coffees and even better staff. So friendly and welcoming. Stopped here a few times in the last week while vacationing on Orcas Island. Had a great talk with David during one of our visits. Have us lots of recommendations for bakeries down in SF and near Santa Rosa where we're from. A must stop if visiting Orcas.

What a treat! We visited on a Sunday morning and while many businesses were closed for the off-season, Brown Bear Baking was a cozy and welcoming spot. We tried the salmon quiche, peach croissant, and pain aux chocolat. Each pastry was delicious and we loved being able to see new pastries being made! The service was very friendly and we were almost tempted to stop back in the afternoon for another treat, but will have to next time!

Amazing ingredients put together with expertise and care. My husband used to be a chef and when he took his first bite of the bread he wept with joy. All their items are outstanding and worth waiting in the line that forms daily.

Absolutely incredible. Friendly and welcoming staff, TOP notch pastries, and a lovely indoor and outdoor atmosphere. Sad they were only open on the last day of our stay, but well worth the wait!

I used to love my trips to Orcas (especially when I would come out to ref volleyball) but it has been years since a visit since our family moved to Idaho. I was excited to visit Eastsound and did some research on the current food vibe. Being a caterer/baker myself I was super excited to check out Brown Bear Baking and "treat" our group to some of their bakes. Sadly we were pretty disappointed in 2/3 of our purchases. First of all, the sticky bun was underbaked, doughy with no spring to the roll. I will say that their "sticky" was delicious. On the other end of the spectrum the blueberry peach almond coffee cake was burnt and extremely dry. My daughter did enjoy her peanut butter cream filled sandwich cookie so, points for that. What makes me sad is that I am not sure when I will get a chance to return to see if it was an off day for them and also, food prices are SO high it is disappointing to basically throw away $15 worth of food. Lastly, I am not sure what it is...but what happened to "service with a smile"?....it seemed lacking at most of the places we patronized yesterday.

Brown Bear Baking is a delightful bakery. We visited Orcas Island over Memorial Day Weekend and must have stopped by BBB at least 3 times. The staff members were so friendly. We loved the peanut butter sandwich cookies.

Love this bakery! We came here for a birthday trip and I picked up a little fruit tart as a birthday treat. It was perfectly sweet with fresh fruit, tasted fresh even though I picked it up later in the day! We came back here the following day for coffee and pastries and had a wonderful time. The pastries are delicious, some of the best I've ever had. There is an outdoor seating area as well, dog friendly so we enjoyed the sunny space with our puppy. Overall, I'll definitely be back. Happy eating!

i do not have enough good things to say about Brown Bear Baking pastries were absolutely amazing. our whole group went back for extra pastries for the rest of our trip. who says i can't have five chocolate muffins on vacation?! (will never stop thinking of those muffins ) dave was so kind and welcoming and made us feel at home. i cannot wait to return to orcas. i feel so inspired to emulate the kindness we were shown at my own hotel & cafe at home

Wow wow wow! If you're on Orca's Island this is a must stop place! From our delicious vanilla and hazelnut lattes to the mouth water salmon & veggie quiches, to the crisp and delicious Pain au Chocolat (chocolate pastry) everything was delightful. The croissant that had me coming back for more every time though was the croissant pêche! It was the perfect balance of fresh fruit and sweet pastry. The staff was kind and offered recommendations of their favorite dinner spots on the island. The vibe of the bakery was welcoming and had indoor and outdoor seating! The only "downside" was they had a smaller menu at the bakery than we found online. This may have been due to the fact we went on the first day it had reopened after winter break though. All in all this is a must stop place!

    So many pastries!

This came highly recommended by the internet. The internet was right. The croissants were so soft and flaky and wonderful. They had multiple types. We got a spinach and feta as well as a ham and cheese. Both were fantastic. Coffee and chai were both perfect. The staff was super nice and efficient. There is indoor and outdoor seating as well as to go containers. Perfect spot to read a book while drinking your coffee or have a nice time with a friend. 10/10 recommend.

We got Wild Mushroom strudel to start, then got Pasta alle Vongole, and Lamb risotto. The Wild Mushroom strudel was good, loved the mushroom filling. The Pasta alle Vongole and Lamb risotto were both good. We finished with Chocolate Hazelnut cheesecake, we loved it. It was a great end to our meal.

The location is wonderful. Water views, downtown, so it's easy to get around. Parking was easy and even though we were early for our reservation they sat us right away. The mids- when I made the reservation online I made a note about it being a very special birthday for my wife. I did not expect anything for free, but I anticipated they might at the minimum say something. Not one person ever mentioned it. The lows. The service, well intended, but under trained. I won't list everything but the prime example is once the food was dropped the server did not show up again until we were almost done. The food was sub par. We had Miso glazed cod and French onion soup. We weren't happy with either. By the looks of reviews, our experience was not normal. We hope it is just due to going before the tourist season starts. No matter the reason, it was a big let down.
