Our first time here on their Dosa Nights on Thursdays. It was a fairly busy night for them even though it was a weekday. The owner was very welcoming and got us seated right away at a table for 2. Initially, we were hesitant about the unlimited dosa option since it might be too much for one person, but the owner promised us we wouldn't regret it and we'd definitely love it. The promise was kept, and we walked out happy and full. Coming to the dosa night options themselves, it included pongal, one idli, 3 types of chutneys, vada, sambar, rasam, and rava kesari along with six types of dosas that we could order unlimited: Karam dosa, Masala dosa, Onion dosa, Mysore Masala dosa, Plain dosa, and Podi dosa. Chutneys and podi with ghee were also served as requested. I tried Karam dosa and Onion dosa. I just devoured Karam dosa as soon as it appeared on my plate. I may be picky about vada, I didn't fully finish it since it's oily for me, but everything else tasted so good, and this dinner definitely took me back to India for a couple of hours. Surely coming back to their other dishes. Keep it up, Madurai Kitchen!

Good food. Ambiance is Indian for sure :) service is typical. Like it :) I would love to have English translation of plates lol but weol that has nothing to do with how good the place is.

We tasted the fried rice and the taste was not up to the mark . The service was good but the North Indian dishes are not the best.

My daughter ate all of that and she is as picky as they come. It was her birthday and the cashier was so sweet to her. The customer service was so good that we are already planning our return visit.

Despite the restaurant being covered by one server, he provided excellent service. The food took a bit longer to come out while the drinks arrived swiftly. *Berry Bramble: a well balanced sweet and tart cocktail with a classic bright and citrusy profile. *London Fog: similarly sweet with a strong strawberry lemonade profile. It had the most majestic presentation, with our server placing a fog filled bubble at the table. *Hot Honey Chicken Scone: there was a subtle spice with a heavy honey coating. The scone was rather dense but had a delicious buttery and cheesy flavor. Our server rightfully described the portion size as being on the smaller side, so I would order two if choosing this as an entree. *Fish & Chips: came with a single piece of fried fish, French fries, mushy peas, and a variety of condiments. I wished it were a bigger portion given the nearly $29 price tag. The fried fish had a sweet, light batter. The fries were rather starchy and needed a longer fry for a better crisp. The mushy peas were surprisingly well seasoned and paired nicely with the mild fish. The curry ketchup and chutney were rich and perfect condiments. The pearl onions were rather dense and difficult to eat. *Sticky Toffee and Date Cake: a stellar, indulgent dessert. The salted caramel ice cream offset the sweetness of the cake. The cake had a fudgy texture and the smothering of toffee gave it a sweet smokiness. Despite coming during happy hour, I found the prices to be a bit steep for the portion sizes. However, the flavors were tasty across the board, so I could see returning for a more celebratory occasion.

Some individuals in our group ordered the short rib benny, which came with a hash brown that reminded me of the ones from McDonald's. The plating also felt really bare and underwhelming. A side salad could've been added to make it seem more worth the $22. I ordered the English dip and it had a better presentation and was filling, but overall it wasn't anything memorable, however the cost was more justified at $21. As mentioned earlier, we were here to celebrate some birthdays. We did bring a small cake to share and were ultimately charged a cake fee of $32. That pretty much soured the experience especially since it was never disclosed to us beforehand that we should expect a fee. We just felt this surprise charge could've been communicated upfront and then it probably wouldn't have ruined our overall experience. For most of us, we probably won't be coming back again.

We were visiting San Diego from the Bay Area and planning to head to the San Diego Zoo from our hotel. We wanted to grab a good meal before entering the zoo and found Dosa Studio on Google -- it was a small detour and absolutely worth it. We went on a Saturday and they had a brunch buffet from 11 AM to 2 PM. We were pleasantly surprised by the wide spread of dishes covering both North and South Indian cuisine, along with tea included. The pricing was very reasonable -- if I remember correctly, it was around $10 for kids under 12 and about $18 for adults, which felt like a great deal for the variety offered. We were a bit rushed that day and had to eat quickly and leave. On our way out, we noticed they had just started a samosa chaat counter that was part of the buffet -- which we unfortunately missed! We ended up coming back the next day to enjoy the buffet in a more relaxed way. This time, we finally got to try the samosa chaat we had missed the day before, and it did not disappoint. Since San Diego was new to us, this restaurant became our go-to spot for the weekend -- and it happened to be the last day of the brunch buffet, so we made sure to stop by again. Hopefully they still offer this brunch buffet. If they do, it's definitely a great value for the price. Even if a few dishes aren't to your taste, there's enough variety to fill up on what you love.

The restaurant itself now feels neglected, and unfortunately the staff presentation reflects that. Several employees appeared unkempt and poorly groomed, which does not inspire confidence in the cleanliness or overall standards of the establishment. They desperately need showers, shaves, hair cuts, deodorant, clean clothes and shoes. As for the food -- the decline in quality is impossible to ignore. What used to be flavorful and authentic now tastes rushed, cheap, and poorly executed. The coconut chutney barely tastes like coconut anymore. Instead, it tastes overwhelmingly of chickpeas, seemingly used as a filler to support the "unlimited chutney" concept at the buffet bar. There's little to no proper tempering or seasoning, leaving you with what feels like bland chickpea paste masquerading as coconut chutney -- a key accompaniment that South Indian food simply does not work without. Their "Chaat Night" is equally disappointing and honestly an insult to authentic North Indian chaat. The flavors, textures, and freshness that make good chaat enjoyable are completely missing. The idlis were cold and hard as rocks, while the dosas arrived cold, soggy, and utterly lacking flavor or crispness. What a fall from grace. This place clearly can no longer maintain the standards and quality that made it popular when it first opened.
