I think that I've found the best Indian weekday lunch buffet in San Diego ... at Annapurna. Behind the simple storefront lies a welcoming South Indian restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. Booths line the side walls with tables in the center of the restaurant. But the focal point at lunch time is the buffet table across the back of the restaurant! For $14.99 (Tuesday-Friday 11.30am-2.30pm), you have your choice of over a dozen Indian dishes plus Naan, Dosa (South Indian Crepes), desert items, and chutneys. The quality of the food is excellent. What did I enjoy? The Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani, Tomato Dahl, Andhra Goat Curry, Andhra Chicken Curry, and Butter Chicken topped my list (5/5). But I really liked everything I ate. From the regular menu, the Vegetable Samosass are very good (4/5 $6.99 for 2 pcs), served with tamarind and cilantro sauces, and i enjoyed a Mango Lassi (4/5 $4.99). I highly recommend Annapurna to lovers of Indian cuisine.

Delicious! Husband and I tried the lunch buffet. Very nice variety of both hot and gentle dishes, and seasoned with different flavor combinations. I tried at least a bite or two of most items on the buffet and was stuffed. Nevertheless, we also ordered samosas and mango lassi just to try. Also delicious! Lunch buffet Tue-Fri $14. Weekends, $20. Thurs dinner buffet $14. Praise for every item we had, and especially the attentive service. Here's what we ate from the buffet: Hyderabadi Chicken biryani Butter Chicken Tandoori chicken Beans porial Andhra chicken curry Ras maliai (Rice and yogurt.) Bread halvah tomato dal Sambar Butter naan

It's been a while since my last visit. I was disappointed with service and food this time. We were the first customers. We got seated and waited at least 20 min until someone came to take our order. We ordered our usuals. The chilli gobi used to be our favorite but this time they were overfried and not many pieces of cauliflower. The butter chicken was a bit too salty and lamb vindaloo sauce didn't taste good (lamb and potato were tender/soft, which I liked). It's a bummer that the food and service quality have gone down since my last visit.

I stopped by this spot because it was open relatively late on the weekday. Their vegetarian buffet was priced very well at 13.99 and you get dosa with your meal. I myself got a lamb korma with garlic naan. It was delicious and hot. Service was prompt, but for the buffet, you serve yourself. The inside is not too large, but still very clean. Good spot for an easy dinner.

This place has amazing deals for their weekday lunch buffet and Thursday dinner buffet! You can't beat this price anywhere else in San Diego for South Indian cuisine! They have so many options and you can finish off your meal with some delicious Indian desserts. My personal favorite was the lollipop chicken that had so much flavor and a unique crunch. $13.99 Weekday lunch buffet for adults and $6.99 for children (closed on Mondays) $13.99 Thursday Dinner buffet for adults and $6.99 for children. $19.99 Weekend lunch buffet and $10.99 for children. The menu is rotating so there's something new every week!

I was seated quickly. I was the only non-Indian diner, so it must be authentic. They use plastic plates and cups, which feel cheap. There are 25 items including condiments on the buffet. I had the best oranges ever. The dishes were mostly meh. Worst naan ever. Great Nankatai eggless cookies. Several items I've never seen on a buffet line, such as Idly, Cabbage Porsal, Rava Kesari, and Mysore Bonda. They play YouTube Bollywood videos with lengthy commercials. The Chai is consumed out of tiny paper cups, which makes it taste funny. Good service. A bargain at $14 plus tip.

    Yogurt and Mango Lassi

My friend and I came here on a Friday night and it was pretty dead. I noticed the buffet station was empty, so I'm guessing that option is more popular. I got a mango lassi and she opted for the yogurt one. Both drinks were premade and had an artificial flavor. We thought that the yogurt one was more refreshing and light. We shared the chicken tikka, kedai shrimp, and noodles. It took about 30 minutes to get everything, so we were pretty hungry by that time. Everything was pretty good, but my favorite were the noodles. It was so flavorful! I would definitely order that dish again.

Overall I like the overall taste and quality of the food. All the curries had a nice flavor and the ingredients complemented each other well. At a cost of a little over $15 for lunch you get what you pay for. My favorite was the tandoori chicken, chicken curry and butter chicken. They had these Little naan balls that were tasty and went well with the curries. The salad was a little weak and could have used some cucumber. For dessert there were orange slices and semolina halva that was excellent. I would give the 4 stars if they would only give you "fresh" naan bread and not microwave the papdums. I will go back.

This is the ONLY Indian buffet o have sound in San Diego. It's very tasty. The restaurant is buffet for every meal! The staff is nice & friendly

annapurna_sandiego has one of the best Indian buffet i have ever tried, has many choices with affordable price , all are cooked fresh and amazingly perfect, also people there are so friendly and welcoming Highly recommended to pay a visit.

    Don't quite know!

I unfortunately got very sick, after ordering chicken dishes. I ordered the curry leaf chicken, which was suggested to me by the lovely staff. Approximately 1 hour after we had to leave due to the fact that There was some sort of hair/ string in our food. This wiring has caused me to be very sick, I have realized the chicken might have been a little past its due date, besides that the garlic naan was fabulous! The ritta was also amazing I just have major stomach issues now!

This is our Third time trying Indian food. My Son is growing and his craving for different Cuisine is expanding. I asked my Yelper friend what are good to have for Indian Cuisine, and she mentioned a lot that sounds so yummy. I know I will be confused about which to order first, so we decided to searched up an Indian Buffet so at least at a Buffet I can try and be familiar with the food I will see and taste since I am new to the cuisine. This restaurant came out on my Yelp Search and it's Called "ANNAPURNA " . We drove right away to try them. When we came we were greeted by a nice lady at the front desk. She even came to me when i was choosing what to get and helped me out with what to pick. I was expecting a very strong seasoning or mild spicyness on their food just like the way we tried on the other Indian restaurants that we've tried, but all of the seasoning was light in this Buffet. I know that what I'm eating is good, but it would be more yummier if the Seasoning was a bit stronger. Its a good place to start to get Familiar with Indian food and we will still be back to try them again on a different day, maybe on different day there is a different cook and will put more seasoning on the food for the flavor to come out more.

I really like this Buffet because all other All You Can Eat buffets and Korean barbecue buffets and even Las Vegas buffets all limit your eating time to 2 hours or less. 100s Seafood Buffet in Mission Valley kicked me out when I overstayed the 2 hours by 15 minutes. The manager hollered In demanding voice,"I want you to pay your server RIGHT NOW", and he kicked me out. That was the first time I ever went to 100s Seafood buffet and they didn't have a line of people waiting for tables when he kicked me out. I was about the only person sitting at a table in my area so it wasn't like I was keeping them from making more money. I never went back but the food was really good and I only had time to eat only five items in the buffet. Cost was $36 at the time So before coming to Great Plaza Buffet I called the restaurant and asked them if they had a 2-hour eating limit. The lady who seats people when you first come in, named Mimi, told me "No you can stay as long as you want". So I come and eat the crab and I eat alone most times. Sometimes I bring my next door neighbors but she doesn't eat crab because of allergies, but they like the other food. My favorite foods besides the snow crab is the black pepper lamb which is very tender. Lamb with no gristle. And I like the scallop shells that are stuffed. And the chicken with mushrooms so delicious. And their chicken wings are really big and crispy on the outside. I like the flan for dessert and the fresh fruit, watermelon, papaya and sometimes they have black cherries. This Great Plaza Buffet is generous with their food. I used to eat at a Asian buffet in Gilbert, Arizona, and they only bring out five crab legs at a time every 20 minutes. I have to stand there at the buffet waiting for the crab to come out because if I don't get it when they from put a few pieces, I will never see the crab. And I can only take three or four because they only brought out five or six and there's people standing behind me. I don't go there anymore. They are too stingy with the crab it's not worth it to drive 25 miles for the crab. Every 15 times I get a free dinner at Great Plaza. Tonight I'm going again and it will be reward number 9 towards my 15 to get the free dinner. I always eat alone. Thank you Great Plaza Buffet for not kicking me out like 100's Seafood Buffet. Eating at Great Plaza Buffet is the highlight of my week. It takes a long time to crack the crab and get the meat out of the shells. If you look at my 100's Seafood review written on Sept. 27, 2021, it got many funny votes which Yelp does not have funny votes anymore, but I wrote a really funny review that people wrote me and said they laughed so hard how funny it is and what a good writer I am. But they kicked me out and my bad review was read by so many people laughing at how 100's buffet treats their customers. That's what I love about Great Plaza Buffet. Their food items are high quality. And the price is good $26 for my senior price for the crab nights. As soon as I leave the restaurant I'm already can't wait to come back next Friday.

I tried a few things that I didn't particularly like but that's the beauty of a buffet, I don't need to eat more of/commit to food I don't like! The food was all pretty fresh looking to keep up with the fast pace crowds hitting the buffet lines. The dessert selection was great and they have a very fun chocolate fountain, the chocolate in it is actually really good too and not that weird waxy chocolate you get in fountains sometimes. I will note that the ice cream bin doesn't seem very sanitary with so many people reusing the same scoop over and over. Another thing I didn't enjoy was the cream puffs, I'm not sure if I got a bad one or if they all tasted like this but mine seriously tasted like spoiled milk. Everyone that we interacted with was pleasant from the hostess, to our server and the person who checked us out. Our server was also pretty good about keeping our waters filled. Overall a very enjoyable experience! I look forward to coming back again soon.

We were celebrating my mother's birthday and arrived around 2:29 PM. The restaurant was busy with many senior customers, the buffet offered a wide variety of food, and it seemed like it would be a wonderful afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience took a very upsetting turn. While we were eating, a manager or owner approached our table and, in a loud voice, accused my elderly mother of serving herself lemonade from the beverage machine without paying. My mother calmly explained that she had only filled her cup with water and squeezed fresh lemon slices into it. Instead of quietly resolving the misunderstanding, the manager brought over cups containing lemonade and continued insisting that my mother had taken lemonade from the machine. This created an embarrassing scene in front of our entire table and nearby guests. I respectfully asked if we could step aside and discuss the matter privately, explaining that we were not trying to take anything without paying. I also mentioned that my parents are longtime customers and that this was my first visit. Unfortunately, the conversation remained confrontational, and I left feeling that the situation could have been handled with much more professionalism and compassion. The experience was especially difficult because my parents are elderly. My 87-year-old father became extremely distressed, and what should have been a joyful birthday celebration for my mother turned into an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience for everyone at our table. The buffet offers plenty of food choices, but after being publicly confronted and embarrassed, it's hard to enjoy a meal. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Every customer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially senior citizens. If there is ever a concern, it should be addressed discreetly and professionally rather than through a public accusation. I sincerely hope management reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future so that no other family has to experience what ours did.

Just because a restaurant has been around for 55 years doesn't necessarily mean it's great--it means it has stood the test of time. After our experience at Tom Ham's Lighthouse, I'd say the incredible location and view probably have a lot to do with that longevity. The staff was friendly, but the service was painfully slow. Our dinner lasted 3.5 hours, and not once did a manager stop by to check on our table. Even when a few stragglers of our group arrived a few minutes after we were seated, the hostess simply pointed them toward our table rather than walking them over. Details matter. The menu is surprisingly small, and the food ranged from mediocre to good. The short ribs were basic with a small portion over mashed potatoes and three asparagus spears. The fish was decent, the tenderloin appetizer was overcooked, and the lobster bisque was a definite miss. The chicken lollipops and calamari were good, although the calamari portion was small. The shrimp cocktail had five decent-sized shrimp. We ate indoors, but with the restaurant open to the outside, the flies eventually became pretty annoying. Overall, the prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly, and the view is definitely the star of the show. Unfortunately, 3.5 hours for dinner with slow service, average food, and no manager checking in made the experience hard to rate any higher. Great view. Decent prices. Average food. Very slow service.

He asked if we had reservations, we did not then he told us to wait outside to be called on, there were tons of empty clean tables, but we didn't argue. As soon as we stepped outside, before I could sit down we got called right back in by the other lady to come inside. Okay. Weird quick game of musical chairs lol. She explained to us how it goes. Drinks on this side of the room. Food on that side. Check. First plate: garlic fried rice (Sinangag), fried eggs, longoniza, Filipino spaghetti, lechon, and a bowl of arroz caldo. Also grabbed two cups, one for water the other for what the waitress said was mango ice tea (spoiler alert: no mangoes were hurt in the process of making this ice tea). Second plate: watermelon and pineapple slices, menudo, kare kare, ube pancake. First the sinangag tasted like it's been left out too long even though it was just brought out. Lots of hard pieces of rice. I decided to not finish it. Next, the fried eggs and longaniza. Fried eggs felt too rubbery for maybe just me. And the longaniza didn't taste anything like longaniza. No spices no garlic. Just a basic sweet hot dog. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a hot dog. I can say the Filipino spaghetti did taste somewhat like actual Filipino spaghetti, sweet. But not too sweet but also didn't see any hot dogs in there! Now the lechon. Tasted exactly like fried pork. That has zero spices and kinda been out for a while. The arroz caldo had some shreds of chicken I think but I had to fetch for it in the pot. Unfortunately there's no boiled eggs to add but you can add everything else to it like the fried garlic, spring onions lemon etc. Now the drinks. What's up with the non mango mango iced tea? It just tasted like iced tea and if I was told that id be okay. But I love mango drinks and was looking forward to it. The water is the only thing I could say I wasn't disappointed with and only if I didn't have to get it myself I guess would be the only downside lol. I did try to get a second plate. Consisted of some watermelon slices and pineapple slices, menudo and kare kare with white rice. The kare kare and menudo did look like what they were called and that is about it in comparison to what I've had in the past. The menudo had no tomato paste taste to it and was rather bland and the kare kare was also bland. Their kare kare sauce was very watery, missing the thick savory peanut buttery taste. And unfortunately, it was the watermelon slices that made me quit and lose my appetite. It had a weird rotten taste to it. I almost had to vomit. First I thought it was soaked in something maybe vinegar, or I dunno. But I just could not eat anything else. I hope today was just an off day and the food is better. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll ever come back or even recommend my friend or family to come eat here.
