Why does every snowblower coming in for repair mysteriously need a new carburetor OR you can just purchase a new one for $$$$

Had my brand new snow blower sent in to "summarize" and tune. It had only been used one time last February. Was called a few weeks after pick up to be told that any unit sent in must get new shear pins and spark plugs. I explained that the unit is new so that would be like replacing the brakes on a new car. I just needed additive for the fuel and the oil changed out. I was called back about 3 weeks later to say nothing had yet been done bc Maestranzi won't guarantee the work if the shear pins aren't replaced and the spark plugs changed out. All of that with the labor and shipping was going to cost $500+. I told them to ship my unit back after the oil was changed and it was tuned. They sent it back to me with a bill for $100 saying "customer refused service." Overpriced con artists. read more

Stay Away from the Newburyport store!! it's no wonder these guys have such an awful rating.  I live up on the North Shore and frequent the store in Newburyport.  I've ordered mulch delivered from them every year for years and the drivers are great.  it's the folks behind the counter who clearly hate their jobs.  Now, I understand that the commercial business is what generates most of their revenue.  but they do have a retail store for customers to walk and purchase things.  EVERY interaction I've had with the folks behind the counter has been a struggle.  For example, today: I walk in to purchase a few bags of stone dust for my walkway and the place is empty except for the two ladies behind the counter.  After a minute of standing there I get acknowledged and asked in a sideways, you are bothering me kind-of-way "Can I help you?".  Yes, I say, I'd like two bags of stone dust please.  She pauses, looks at her colleague at the other desk and huffs up out of her chair.  "How Exciting" she exclaims.  I pause for second and say "Eff this, forget it" and walk out.  complete dinks. Everyone I know bristles when they walk in to the store so don't make the same mistake I made.  let's see if we can get them down to 1 star. read more

I just purchased a track Honda from these gentleman, what a great machine and a great value!! Home Depot and others should kill themselves!

Called them to do a service on my snowblower, they came and picked it up, and tuned it up. They charged my almost $600 to do a service... I used it about a min later on the first snow storm, and it shit the bed!! Wtf! I called and they just passed me around and never called me back! I will never give them anymore business and I don't suggest you do either! read more

I am very surprised to read the poor reviews here. From the beginning the Manager Paul and Mike, one of the sales reps were fantastic. I explained to Mike that I currently had an entry level craftsman snow blower from Lowes but was looking for something with a bit more juice and some width as I did not want to spend hours moving snow. I have a 100ft+ double wide driveway with a steep incline. We went through the options that they had and we landed on the Toro 30". They have a nice range of machines to fit various budgets. The Toro is built solid and the guys shared best practices to keep it running like new. They also have free pick and drop off for the life of the machine. When my mower goes, this will be my first stop! I have my eye on a zero turn that was much cheaper than the big box stores. read more

I went in to ask a couple questions about why my machine was not working properly. I was interrupted multiple times and treated very rudely. Rather than hear my questions and help me out they merely wanted me to fill out a work order and have it brought in - when I didn't even know if it was broken. One woman even threw her hands up and said "I can't deal with this guy, you take him" to another employee. Never again will I step anywhere near this place. read more

I don't know how this place stays in business. When they told me how much they wanted to tune up my snow blower (glorified oil change), I almost died laughing... Oh and that doesn't include parts. While I was there I was looking for a little push behind lawn mower for the areas my ride on couldn't do... Prices STARTED at $900. If you purchase the equipment from there they will pick it up and drop it off for free. We bought our snowblower off the woman who sold us our house. Even bough she bought it from them, the free delivery did not apply to us ($75 I believe). I prefer to buy local instead of HD and Lowes but they left me little choice. read more

I have purchased both my lawnmower and my snowblower at Maestranzi Brothers, and although they are expensive, they do back the products they sell and also offer annual service. When I recently had a dispute about the service and parts for my snowblower, they satisfied my concerns. My 16-year-old snowblower and older lawnmower have continued to keep running like a charm and if they fail during the season, I pay for parts only (under the annual maintenance plan). read more

I've had quite the mixed experience with these folks. I've purchased a couple things from them over the years. It's a real story of the good, the bad, and the ugly. The rating I'm giving them is based off their business practices and not the quality of the machines they sell. Here is the good. There are times that you see a specific model of a lawn mower at Home Depot for one price and you see it at Maestranzi's for more money. However, when I looked closely I realized that although the model numbers appeared the same, the mowers were constructed differently. Better wheels, deck was made of a different material, etc. And when I looked closely at the model number there was a difference in that one version had a "B" following the numbers. Clearly at the time, Toro made a better quality version and the cheaper version (which was sold at Home Depot). This isn't always the case. The last purchase I investigated (Toro Timemaster) was the exact same mower at both Maestranzi's and Home Depot. Home Depot was about $100 cheaper. However, Maestranzi assembles(more of an unboxing as there isn't much to assemble), fills it with gas and delivers it to your door. Also, they promise to pickup and deliver your mower for free if you choose to have it serviced by them when you purchase from them. To me, it was worth the $100(barely). The bad. I've been to their parts department. Every part I've gotten from here is perfect for it's intended purpose. I've found the parts to be a bit on the expensive side. However, the biggest problem is that there always seems to be a bad line here. The ugly. Actually this is beyond ugly. I had a snowblower picked up by them to have the gas engine tuned up so that it would start easily. This was an old snowblower. I wasn't planning on keeping it for much longer. Maestranzi did a whole ton of work on it that wasn't discussed. They took the opportunity to replace multiple parts that had nothing to do with the running of the engine. They even replaced the skids despite the fact they didn't need replacing. The price was somewhere on the order of 3x what I was expecting. I've had tune ups done in the past from Don's Hardware and never had this issue of extra work being done. When I complained that completed work I didn't ask for, they claimed I asked for a "tune up". That to them means not just an engine tune up but a replacement of all parts they could possibly replace. The woman doing the billing refused to do anything for me. I asked to speak to someone else and one of the owners came over. He was understanding in my point of view but also refused to do anything and insisted I pay for everything. Yes I got value for my money but in my mind I was ripped off. I didn't want a lot of the work done. Also, it doesn't help that I believe their service rates are not competitive. If you ever decide to use this place for service, I highly suggest that you get everything in writing. Make sure that things are very specific. Generic terms such as "Tune up", or a "Check up" or "Start Service" could mean anything. I don't trust their service department at all at this point. It's clear that the questionable practices are supported by the owner. When you bill people for work they didn't ask for, you lose people's trust. You get their money that day but after that they walk and go elsewhere. read more

If I could leave a 0 star review, I would. My only two experiences with Maestranzi Brothers have been nothing short of awful. In 2020 they picked up my riding mower for a spring tune up and I asked them to go over everything on it; instead they sent it back to me with rusty dented mower blades that I ended up having to change myself. This year they picked my riding mower up in April for a spring tune up again, and now it's currently the middle of JULY and I have no idea if I'll ever see my mower again. The office staff seem to know nothing about what goes on in the parts & service department because whenever I call to try and find out when I'll get my mower back, they immediately transfer me to a number that I guess is the parts & service department except no one ever picks up so it's just a transfer to an answering machine which is as good as being hung up on. If I knew it was going to be at least a 3 month wait to get my mower back, I would've brought it somewhere else and in future that's exactly what I'm going to do. Completely ridiculous how slow the service is and the poor communication from their staff is unacceptable as well. read more

These two brothers should throw in the towel. I have done business with them for 30 years. I recently went there to make a purchase for my snow blower and was treated rudely and price gouged for the parts. They even charged me $1.50 for a little screw. I sent in my snow blower in for a $125.00 Tune up and was hit with a$ 600.00 bill when I paid $1200.00 that was half the cost of the machine they did take some money off since they could not produce the parts they said they replaced .. my suggestion stay away there are other places on the north shore that would appreciate your business.and treat you like a customer should be treated. I mailed a special offer card back to them in July for snow blower maintenance. I received a call today December 7th five months later that they will pick up the snow blower on Monday. I thought they had lost my card with contact info. They asked for a credit card and I asked what the special pricing was: 1. $250 service plus parts 2. $50 pick up 3.$50 delivery ( I live 2.2 miles away from them) 4. $100 fee since I did not buy the snow blower from them The total special pricing was going to be about $500. I cancelled the special offer. The lady was matter of fact. Her reply was OK. I am in the market in another year of two for another snow blower but will go elsewhere Buyer Beware read more

Very high volume place. Huge selection of parts. I can't tell you how many contractors have told me they swear by the place. I have had good luck getting parts. They do pick up and drop off with snow throwers and such. I see some of the complaints, I think the main thing is that Maestranzi is really not oriented towards having salespeople and mechanics talking consumers through purchases and repairs. There really is not a "show room" or "sales floor" and repairs are basically drop-off. Every time I've been there they have at least a small line of customers. So they really do not have time for extended conversations or talking customers through decisions. read more

Just purchased a Ferris Spreader from Maestranzi Bros. I was in a bit of a hurry to get this deal done and had some special requests. I live about 90 minutes away and called all the dealers around and Maestranzi Bros were the only ones who would accommodate my requests. Dealt with Leo, one of the owners, personally. Leo went above and beyond what he needed to do to make the sale. I couldn't be more happy with the service that I received. I will be purchasing a new commercial zero turn later this year and absolutely will come here first. Thanks Leo! read more

Several days ago I had purchased my first snow blower so I checked with my relatives and they suggested that I go to Maestranzi Brothers in Beverly, they told me that is where they had purchased theirs and they had been very pleased with their service. I was very impressed with the time the employees spent with me going over the size of the snow blower that I would need, based on my information I had given them and then demonstrated the various operating instructions of the machine they also told me that they have free pickup and delivery, that was very important to me. When the Maestranzi truck arrived at my home the driver reviewed the operating instructions again. I have been very happy with this transaction from start to finish. Tom read more

I had my ride on lawnmower serviced in August 2020 and the experience was less than satisfactory. After dropping off the mower for service to repair the PTO, I waited for 2 weeks but never heard from them. I called and was told my mower had gotten lost in the shuffle but they would get to it soon. I was called and told it was ready for pickup a couple of days later. Picked up the mower and noticed that they had torn the seat cover. Used the mower and it broke down after a half hour so I brought it back. Again they had the machine for over 10 days so I called for a status, they told me they were waiting for a part. I asked them the cost as it was an older machine and I didn't want to invest too much more $$ into it. I was told they would get back to me but they never called back. Several days later they called to let me know the machine was ready, it was another $350 which I wouldn't have spent if I was given notice. These guys used to be a good company but there customer service is awful. I will be buying a new machine in the spring of 2021 but not from Maestanzi. read more

I paid just over 600.00 for repairs on the snow blower I have had for 10 years when they said it's all set and you will not have any problems. If you do just give us a call. Three weeks go by and now I have over a foot of snow in my driveway and my snowblower will not start and that is the reason why it went to the shop. Do not depend on this business to make any claims that you will have no problems. Now I have to shovel my 75ft driveway by hand. I know I need the exercise but. I just paid to have the frogging machine fixed. I would like to get a guarantee or a credit back for your so called screwed up fix and pissing me off in a snow storm. The salesman was useless. He watched as we looked at machines, never coming over to ask if we needed help. We finally had to walk over to him and ask him questions. Some he had no idea what we were talking about (he said) when it was about new features that some snow blowers have. He then showed us one that had the features, and, not knowing what to do, he just watched until we had to ask "how does this work?" I'm surprised to read some negative reviews. My experience couldn't have been better. New to the snow blower world, our neighbor gave us her snow blower when she moved to a condo. At the height of the blizzards of 2015 we needed chains for the spinning tires. We went to Lowe's and the ones they had were too big and also cost 79.00! The clerk suggested Maestranzi Bros. After short wait the parts man looked for the chains for out model blower, which is a brand they don't carry. They had the chains which were 53.00 and he took the time to explain to my daughter and me, two women, in detail how to put them on. After he rang it up we asked about a screw for the wobbly handle and again he looked up the part for us and gave us the nut and bolt free of charge. I'm not sure about prices on new equipment, didn't check , but I will definitely go back to them again. I was looking for a belt that needed replacing on my snowblower. Although i had not purchased the machine from these guys, it was one of the only places that I thought I would be able to get a belt quickly. I called to check and was told that they couldn't take my call because there was a line at the parts department and that i would need to come in to check and see if they had the part. Given that i was in a desperate place and really needed the part so that i could use my snowblower i gave it a shot. When I got there the line was across the entire shop. I asked the sales person if they could check for me, he told me no he just did sales and not parts and that I would have to wait in the line. It ended up being 45 minute wait just to find out that they didn't have the belt that I needed and that they wouldn't order it since I hadn't purchased my machine from them. Aside from that, if you really want to pay double the price for the same snowblower you can get at the big box then this place I'm sure would be great (I heard the salesmen trying to sell a snowblower for 1699, you can get the same toro at hd for 899, and yes I did actually Check) read more
