This place is friendly but very noisy on a Friday evening. We ordered the goat cheese appetizer which was tasty but much more pastry than goat cheese. The bowl of chef's nuts was disappointing because the candied pecans were actually chunks of brittle and the pepitas were completely absent. Definitely not as described in the menu. The calamari was outstanding. All the steaks were prepared perfectly. The shepherds pie was very tasty but so hot, you're better off spooning the food onto your dish so it will cool off. Stopped in today for lunch and had their lunch special. It was an amazing chicken salad sandwich. Not your run of the mill plain jane. It had curry Mayo and the chicken was moist and tasty. We came here on a date night with no reservations. It was definitely busy but they got us in right away. We started with some drinks and apps. The duck wings and fried calamari were very good. For dinner, my wife got the saffron shrimp dish, my brother in law the gnocchi, and my sister and I the lamb. All of the dishes were great, but the lamb was amazing. Went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. Great bar service and food. Had the duck wings with buffalo sauce and the brisket sandwich. Both were flavorful. What a great addition to the north shore! It's been a while since we've been to this area but thanks to Yelp notifying me of new spots, we decided to give this place a try to kick off our spring break staycation. Well friends, I'm glad to report that it did not disappoint! From the moment I called to make a reservation, I was impressed with the friendly service that carried on through our entire visit. The space was absolutely gorgeous, clean and simple with the beautiful lighting taking center stage. The cocktail list had a nice selection of innovative twists to classics such as the rum old fashion though I'm loyal to my bourbon so I ordered something called the Maevery Elixir. Food portion tends to be on the small side (or just the right size if you're not a pig like me). Our app selection consisted of deviled eggs and hush puppies (this in itself won me over). For entrees, we had the lavender salmon with Chinese black rice, duck with a bourbon honey glaze and honest to goodness okra, and the sea bass with creole sauce. And because we're pigs--- oh yeah, we established that already, we made room for dessert: cookies and cream and bread pudding. Our server told us they also serve brunch on weekends. What's the deal with the hostess, who is busy answering the phones, seating people, taking reservations and all of the full on hostess/front of the house duties, even attempting to be the server for all of the bar tables? I have a management question! Does this provide for a complete and thorough dining experience at Maevery? Does your hostess have the ability to juggle her primary duties while offering your patrons a positive dining experience? My answer is absolutely not! After sitting at the bar table for too long as we watched her answer the phone and seat people on Monday night, we had to walk out. We never had the opportunity to get our order in - she was too busy. She was so distracted that as we were leaving, all she could say was, "goodbye"! There was no attempt to inquire as to why we were leaving without ordering or offering to assist us in any way. Please, have enough servers for the tables that you wish to serve! The ambiance was nice and service was friendly. Everything else was very underwhelming or disappointing. We ordered the duck wings appetizer ($15), saffron shrimp ($22), and fisherman's pie ($22). The duck wings came out incredibly fast, to the point where it was suspiciously fast. It was quite obvious that the "wings" were precooked (not cooked to order) and then reheated. They were insanely dry and tasted and looked like they were microwaved. The saffron shrimp broth didn't really taste like saffron and the shrimp tasted like the cheap shrimp you buy in big frozen bags at the grocery store. It was really bland, as if they didn't add any salt or seasoning at all. I wouldn't have minded the exceedingly average quality of the shrimp if they didn't charge $22 for the dish. The fisherman's pie was okay, but again the quality of the seafood also just tasted like it was from frozen and it was also a bit bland. All in all, I wouldn't have been so disappointed in this meal if it wasn't so expensive. It was $14 quality food that they were charging $22 for. I would give this restaurant 2.5 stars if possible because the staff was friendly but I can't possibly give this place 3 stars given the quality of the food compared with the price. read more

Swung through my hometown for a few days and decided to meet up with a group of old friends at Maevery's. We reserved their private room, which seated seven of us very comfortably. There's a choice of indoor and outdoor seating, which is a hard decision to make considering how adorable the downtown area is for the outdoor view. We went on a Sunday, so there was a brunch menu but we opted for lunch. I ordered the crab cakes and French fries with homemade ketchup and my husband got the brisket sandwich. My lunch was delicious, the crab cakes were crispy and had perfect flavor, the French fries were great and the homemade ketchup was the perfect texture and flavor. Excellent Pilsner on tap. Great service from our waitress Kathy. Appetizers: the outstanding house made pickles and the most delicious "everything" pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. Our entrees were the burger and the ribs. We substituted pimento cheese and it was great. The ribs were incredibly tasty sand fell off the bone. Fantastic fries. All over a beautiful experience. We will be back. Went back tonight and had errors with the drinks, the food and the service. Fries were salted so heavily I could not eat them. We had a four star experience last time and a two star tonight. Food was okay after they took a very long time to get us our correct order. Try not to sit where you have the bartenders take care of you. I wish a manager had stopped by to check on us. No one did. We really missed the fantastic waitress we had last time.
