The wine is delicious, the vibe is great, and the stories are entertaining, and the service is stellar.

We had already strung together a nice wine tour on the Friday and then we we did parks on Saturday. When we were back in town Sunday I suggested we swing back through Palisade(our Airbnb was in Grand Junction) and see if there was another bottle of wine we might like. After 1 other spot we swung by Hermosa Vineyards. It was a humbler operation than some we noted, as we pulled in. I sorta like that over a grandiose entrance. The tasting room was even more humble in size and layout. As we walked in a larger group was just leaving and bought a few wines, so I figured it must be pretty good. It was good overall. The vintner was also our bartender he said. He told us alot about the history of him and the place. We learned alot about the produce he had growing as well. We were the only customers at that moment so he was especially chatty with us. It was a nice stop, we didn't get a bottle here, but we did appreciate the vibe.

As my expectation for this small but reputable winery grew as the day of the trip was near, today, I have the pleasure of writing this 5-star review to add to others' raves after I had a wonderful time spending 30 minutes at this one of a kind winery a few days ago. Kenneth was the most experienced/knowledgeable wine makers out of all 11 places I got to visit in Palisade mid this week. He certainly knows what wine making is all about and I could taste the precision he puts into each varietal. No wonder his place is ranked one of the top Colorado wineries. Hermosa is small and quaint but big doesn't always describe the success of a/any business. I certainly see that his pride as a wine maker is reflected in the kind of winery he runs: no extravagance, no big/expensive sign. Some great business is not always on the main/busy street; hence the expression, "hidden gem". Ken's winery is a hidden gem of Colorado's wine country is an understatement. His wines are not cheap like other wineries' wines so expect pay $5 to $10 more. But once you have tasted the qualities of his wines after a flight, you WILL be convinced to buy a bottle or two.

Restoration Vineyards, Palisades , Colorado - July 13, 2026…read more This is a beautiful winery with a modern indoor tasting room and large beautiful outdoor covered grassy area with lots of tables and chairs that has a nice stage for music events. We tasted indoors. Zander was our server and he was terrific! My wife and I shared a tasting and Zander did a great job describing the wines. The wines I've tried from other wineries in this area typically aren't my favorite. I tend to pick up a flavor that is faintly herbaceous on just about every varietal I've tried. Kind of like a stemy character. Not overpowering, but just not my favorite. Not the case with any of the wines we tried at Restoration. The flavor profiles were spot on. All the wines we had were terrific - Chardonnay, Riesling, Rose, Semillon, Pinotage, Barbera, Cab. Franc, and Red Blend. Winery owner, Gary, happened to hear me mention how much I liked the wines here and how I had been picking up the stemy character from other wines in the area. He explained that Restoration uses a unique processes to help eliminate that character. Realizing how much we liked the wines here, Gary opened a bottle of Semillion that was not part of the tasting flight. It had won a double gold medal at the San Francisco Wine Competition and came in second in Best of class. What a delight! I highly recommend this winery!

Even though it was 95°F outside, we stayed comfortable thanks to the plenty of shaded seating and outdoor misters. There are cozy chairs on the lawn where we spent quite a while enjoying our wine and the scenery. The winery is also pet-friendly both inside and outside, which was a huge plus for us. They don't serve food, but they typically have food trucks on-site. We did the tasting, which included all six wines currently available. My favorite was the White Blend, while my husband's favorite was the Red Blend. The staff was incredibly friendly. After we ordered our tasting inside, they even brought the remaining pours out to me while I was relaxing outside, which was such a thoughtful touch. Overall, Restoration Vineyards offers beautiful views, great wine, excellent service, and a very welcoming atmosphere. We would absolutely visit again.

I will have to say that my star rating has a big portion to do with the experience we had which could have been determined by the time we might have gone. When we had arrived there and not a soul beside us was there for tasting (all the other wineries that day had lots of people). So it was a bit odd to walk into an empty facility with a very quiet bar tender / taster lady. She wasn't much for any conversation. We had been told it was fun, the atmosphere was friendly and the owner did the tastings and made the experience fun. But we didn't experience that at all. Now the facility was beautiful and being high on the hill, it made a nice overview of the mountains and the water creaks and ponds below. Very nice outside area. The inside is also beautiful and great since it's a house I commend them for making this so homey yet professional. Unfortunately we didn't have the experience we were hoping to, and the wine wasn't one we thought that was outstanding. I don't know I would come back, but if we do we want to experience it the way were told so we might look into their busy times and see what it was like. We were just bummed for our first taste of the day.

I HATE posting bad reviews of family and locally owned businesses. Bbbuuutttt I can't give a good…read moreone just because of that and mislead people. It's not really anymore out of the way than any other winery so don't let the drive scare you off because people reading this, you may have a better experience than us. FYI for CO winery newbies, sometimes it's good to call and double check if they are open because so many are run by a small group of staff, family, or maybe just one person so pick up the phone and call first instead of giving a bad review to a place you've never seen. We were told they are the only winery in CO to have multigenerational family ownership which is always cool! I think that is why I was so bummed it was disappointing. The tasting room was decorated nicely enough for it being in a home, large and cutely decorated (there is a place who will not be named that is in the most depressing basement ever. Skip that one). What cancels out the cuteness of Ptarmigan/Stoney Mesa was that when we came in, there were a ton of toys strewn around the room which was off putting. When we came in she acted like she was surprised people were there and quickly sort of straighten up the toys just enough for us not to trip. I had to warn my husband more than once not to take a step back at all or he would've squashed her toddler. I'm not sure if that is an improvement from trying to get her from opening and slamming the wine fridge shut for a while. I can't imagine that is good for the product? I'm not trying to sound like I am anti-kid, but there are some places that I expect not to see a baby and a toddler and everything that goes with them. I felt like we had inconvenienced a new Mom in her napping clothes that was dragged into the family business. It made me feel kind of bad like they didn't give her a choice or something but to work there? Aside from that, she was super nice and knew a bit about the wine for having recently started. We were able to taste as much as we wanted for no charge which is always lovely! There were a few wines that we really liked, more on the dry side which is our preference and the prices were good. Approx $17 per bottle. On the way out we noticed a beautiful back patio area with welcoming chairs and wished we'd seen it prior to the tasting. We would've probably just bought a bottle and sat outside so mama could tend to the little ones without being disturbed by customers. (Sorry if you're the daughter in law reading this, you were super sweet! But please tell your in-laws/bosses to hire someone, do it themselves or find a way not to make people feel like they are drinking wine at a day care). Your wines are lovely! I wish the ambience was as lovely as the grapes. If the baby/toddler thing isn't something that would get under your skin or distract you, the please go! It would've been great otherwise and I don't want to stop people from going if it wouldn't bug them. But if you're looking for something quieter, more-adult centered as most tasting rooms are, this may not be for you. Sorry I couldn't give more stars, the kiddos were really distracting and was a turn off.
