She had her ultrasound for her first born here and they told her she was having a girl and since she trusted them and was her first she ran with it and when she gave birth she gave birth to a boy! Okay crazy story to say but it happens.. or maybe right? Now she's pregnant with her second blessing and she was sent here AGAIN by her dr and this time not the tech but the provider gave the results of the u/s and told her once again "it's a girl" and she did not ran with it so she got blood work just in case and guess what.. ITS A BOY! How ridiculous for this to happen back to back and this is supposed to be their specialty! Don't want to be rude but is it nothing but newbies?! Because I swear the first time although it was a big mistake and she got nothing but girl clothes and huge waste of money but she didn't verify through blood so she was just left bamboozled.. but the SECOND time around comes and same MISTAKE?! Wow. What if they had no money to get blood work done and had no ins so they can only run by the what the u/s says?! They need to learn how to read those u/s because that's embarrassing. read more

This is by far the worst doctor I've ever visited. The place is a total rip off! I'm not sure if I'm also upset with my OB for even referring here knowing they charge so much money for nucal testing. These people charged over 800 dollars for tests that would have cost me 250 max at my OB's office. I was lucky enough to have my insurance discount the cost, but having a high deductible this year I still am stuck with a 500 dollar bill and this office would barely work with me on payments. I wouldn't refer these people to anyone. BE WARE. I called to try and reason with them and they kept pushing that this is a different ultrasound. Just because it's a different code number to charge doesn't make it ok for you to charge up the yin yang for something that the demographic charges and recommended range says its less for. It still makes you and your office a rip off. Just for reference I have over 5 years experience running medical offices and am very well experienced with ICD 9 coding and working with disability, insurance and workman's compensation. I've never run my offices these way nor would the doctors I worked for treat patients like this. Reading the other bad reviews of poor office treatment tops things off. read more

I cringed and frowned when my new OB doc referred me to this place again. For my first pregnancy in 2010, I went for first trimester screening (blood work, ultrasound, genetic counseling). The wait was about an hour on average, and the receptionist always gave deadly gazes like I always interrupted her solitaire games or something. That I can forgive and forget -- the worst part was having this young female doctor poke me not once, but TWICE through my stomach with a 15 inch needle for my amniocentesis. If my heart wasn't pounding so loud I could almost hear her humming as if it was some sort of game play for her with the needle as a joystick. All the while, she complained how the ultrasound machine was outdated/not working well, to her assistant. But this time around, everything changed 180 degrees. The Filipina(?) receptionist was super friendly, quick on her feet, and got all my paper work in a new york minute. The couseling went fast cuz I said no to everything. Ultrasound tech also did everything right, drew my blood, etc. and I was out the door in just under an hour when the appointment was scheduled for 2 hours. I just hope I don't run into that doctor again for my second visit - if I do, I will shriek and run and call the police. read more

After reading mixed reviews on here, I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Magella! We arrived for our NT ultrasound appointment 15 min in advance, filled out paperwork, and then were promptly taken back right on time. Everyone in the front was very pleasant and the waiting room was modern/comfortable/clean. We were led into one of the ultrasound rooms, which was also very comfortable. Our technician was so sweet and friendly and you could tell she enjoyed seeing our baby too. There was a big screen on the wall to view from and a nice "husband chair" right next to my "bed". The technician talked us through everything and we spent about 10-15 minutes total measuring, pointing out assorted body parts, and then just letting us watch the baby. She printed out about 3 pictures for us to take home and then we went on our merry way. Very easy, comfortable, and enjoyable! read more

This place is horrible!!! HORRIBLE!!! I wish I could give them negative stars. First time I came here for my first trimester scan we waited for over an hour! I don't know how it's acceptable to run that much behind. Then we had our scan the babies looked fine everything was good. Till Dr. Kefir he has the worst bedside manners. Completely insensitive came in to tell me that in combination with my blood work I have a 1% chance one of the babies could have downs. And he suggested an amnio which has 2% chance to lose one or both babies and to talk to the genetic counselor right away about my options.... he made that 1% seem like such a big deal as if it's certain that my baby has downs. Freaking out a first time hormonal pregnant woman is just not okay!!! I asked him how important is the blood test as the actual screen showed both babies were fine. He said "equally important". He made it seem like there was something wrong with my baby even tho this is just a garbage statistical number.... Doing research online I found out that blood tests shouldn't even be given to mothers of multiples as they are completely incorrect since our level of hormones are clearly off. In other countries like EU and UK the blood test is skipped for moms of multiples. We saw the genetic counselor who herself told us that the opted out of the blood portion of the test due to her age.... She said it's not that important but offered us a new MaterniT 21 blood test which is not FDA approved so insurance doesn't cover it unless you have PPO then out of pocket you only pay #300... I have PPO so we went ahead and did this test which cleared me and the babies are fine... Why was this test not offered in the first place? Why stress out a pregnant woman with questionable blood work in the first place. I'll never see Dr. Kefir again! From there my experience hasn't really improved. read more

I've been in this office in need of ultrasounds and consults due to complications in my pregnancy a few times in the past 3 months and could not be more pleased with the professionalism demonstrated. On top of experiencing excellent care from the front desk to the sonographers to the doctors, my doctor was always communicated with immediately making it easier for us to make decisions an adhere to a medical plan. The office is impeccable, the equipment is state-of-the-art, and the team is terrific. I highly recommend this office. Lastly, for your reference, the doctors I'm seeing and who are communicating with my OB are Dr. Vo and Dr. Seet. They are superb. read more

We've had two great experiences here in the past 4 weeks. I was originally referred to another mfm, and the experience was not great. I asked my OB to send me back here (I came here for my first pregnancy) and I'm so glad I did! Dr Chan and dr Seet are wonderful! The two ultrasound techs we had were kind, knowledgeable and informative. The front desk staff is welcoming. I love that they're always on time, we never wait too long and they're just plain efficient. I'm surprised at the bad ratings, I think they're very professional and we're glad we're seeing them for this pregnancy. read more

My OB recommended me at this place through-out my pregnancy for test screening, ultrasound, etc. The receptionist is always nice and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy enough for me. True that they can be busy, but it only happened to me once, on my very first visit. But after that, all my visits were fast enough. Of course, you still have to wait for around 15 minutes (or even less). But it's not so bad compared to my first visit that took more 45 mins! I understand because I'm a new patient and I have to answer forms and they need to input my record. I just wish the doctor would've stayed longer or explained longer rather than just letting the nurses do the all talking. The two nurses who did my ultrasounds were very informative and was very nice. So no complains at all. read more

Amazing ! This facility is located in the South bay tucked quietly on property with l luscious landscaping and water falls. very beautiful and calming. The office its self is clean and tidy with a spacious waiting room with educational TV reading materials and a nice fish tank. The staff and doctors are kid friendly and even though the waiting room is accommodating you dont have to wait long. Most doctors wont see you at all if your more then fifteen minutes late. The staff and Doctors are so accommodating they will work with you if you call ahead and let them now. I was nearly 30 minutes late for my appointment and they still saw me and my wait was about 10 minutes. The office staff and doctors are all so down to Earth. They greet you and speak to you. Very comforting and welcoming. On top of the sweet and courteous office staff my doctor Dr V o is very detailed . you never feel rushed she explains everything in detail so that you understand. I feel at ease with a doctor that takes her time and answer any questions I have. I'm expecting my fourth child after a second trimester miscarriage and every visit I get photos of the baby and update on how my body and the baby is progressing. The restroom is always clean and the ultrasound room has nice fluffy pillows to rest on and flat screen tvs directly in front of you , so you don't have to bend and twist to see the monitor. The lights are dimmed and the process is always calming. love this place! read more

I went here for my first trimester scan. First the tech was all cheery, asking if we were excited & etc. Sadly, when she & the doctor confirmed that the baby stopped growing, the mood quickly changed from cheery to a cold "sorry for your loss, get dressed" I know that they have a lot of patients but they didn't even give us enough time to absorb the news, instead they hurried us on out of there. read more

Before I could even step foot in the office or set up an appointment, I call at 4:45pm to make a simple appointment. I get though and they hang up on me. I just figured a finger slipped or whatever. I call back, they hang up again. Called again, hung up on again. The FOURTH FUCKING TIME I call they put up their "Office is closed" recording. They close at 5pm. I get it that they want to go home but that's 15 minutes they could be taking lousy calls like mine that just required a fucking appointment setup. read more

This is my second pregnancy with Magella Medical group and Dr. Vo. My first delivery had severe compilations and they have been very helpful and proactive for my second. In a world where most doctors and medical centers make you feel rushed, the Magella staff and doctor Vo take their time, make sure all your questions are answered and provide thoughtful care. The accounting department here will screw you! We went here for ultrasounds. Paid all our dues. Then had our son. Two years later they came back and said we want you to pay $500.00 for a miscalculation. When I said I wanted to push it through insurance they gave me 60 days then sent it to collections. How is it legal to come after someone for the company's mistake after two years?!? Save your time and money...go somewhere else! read more

All the doctors here are wonderful. I have had first hand experience. They are evidenced based so only do care that's proven and cost effective. I also like how they are affiliated with resident and fellow training programs, they are educating the next generation of specialists. read more

Came here with my daughter. The lady at the front is really nice and super helpful. The genetic counselor is great too- very informative and helpful. I wish I could say the same for the ultrasound tech and the Dr. They are probably excellent at medicine and what they do, but could really try to have a better bedside manner. 1 star just for the scheduling. Wait time is 45-60 minutes every time, and they schedule our amniocentesis without notice. We weren't expecting it, so had to come back. The Dr.s are fine. The staff is mostly friendly. But the TV blasting commercials in the waiting room (they can't adjust the volume), the rude billing people, and the long wait are really frustrating. Go somewhere else if you can. We went to Dr Naylor in Torrance our previous pregnancy, and had a much better experience. read more

I went in expecting the worst because of previous reviews on this site. I also prepared to wait 45 minutes to even be seen. But instead I was pleasantly surprised. I only waited about 15 minutes and that was only because I was filling out my paperwork. When I got called back, the nurse who did my ultrasound was super nice and very easy to talk too. She gave me a few pics of my baby as well. Afterwards she had to draw my blood. I hate this part but she did well. My vein rolled but she managed to roll it back without hurting me. I was very happy with my visit. Hopefully my next appointments will be just as easy. read more

I love this place! The staff has been extremely nice, polite, and welcoming both times I've been here. I love the big screen for the ultrasound and the person doing my first ultrasound ( Asian lady possibly an MD) seemed very knowledgable and did a very thorough job! My blood draws never hurt and my veins aren't the greatest. I'm an RN so I definitely appreciate them and their professional attitude! The wait times are different one time 30 minutes and the next time only 5 minutes. My insurance covered all expenses. Overall great experience and I definitely recommend this office! read more

I had a really great experience at Magella for my first trimester scan. The technician was so very sweet, explained everything and made us feel very comfortable. When it was time to draw blood I explained that sometimes I get faint. The two women who helped me made me feel very comfortable, it was over before I knew it and I didn't pass out! read more

I have been to Magella Medical Group four times after initially meeting Lisa for an anatomy scan at Hoag in Newport Beach. My office is closer to her location in Irvine, so I continued my care with Lisa at Magella. I have had a wonderful experience every time as it is easy to make appointments here, the equipment is top of the line and the staff is extremely caring. The nurse / radiologist who did the first trimester scan to my wife was very rude and Did not answer our questions properly. (She was very less knowledgeable about the stuff!) The scan monitors were in black and white as opposed to color monitors at many places. The color monitors are helpful to clearly see the blood flow and circulation in that tiny body :) . I am surprised there are no reviews of this facility , No online info and they donot have a website either, While this medical center was pretty much busy when we went for scanning. read more

First and foremost, the Doctors and Ultrasound Technicians I encountered here are the best. They are very caring, kind, informative and intelligent. I did not give 5 stars because unfortunately they have 2 front office staff members that really need to retire and let someone who appreciates and would give anything to be employed a chance. Don't get me wrong, there are 2 other front office staff who are very kind and nice (it is a hispanic lady in blue scrubs and an asian lady who greets you who are very kind and professional) so I don't want to take away and lump these two fine hard working ladies into the the group with the other 2 miserable employees I have encountered. The first miserable girl I encountered sits all the way to the right of the front desk (african american with brown rimmed glasses) and wears blue scrubs. She was very rude when asking about my insurance information, when I explained, I then received attitude from her and she wouldn't talk to me anymore and instead talked to my husband as if I wasn't there. That's nice, guess my husband shouldve been the patient, not me. Second time I visited the office my husband and I were leaving and I merely asked a simple question at the check out desk about billing in regards to the state of California bill I had received in the mail. If looks could kill.... this other girl (African american wearing a white scrub with multi colors on it) just glared at me in such an unprofessional manner and stated "we don't deal with any of the billing" and practically rolled her eyes at me to say how dare you ask me anything about the billing practices. All she had to do is refer me to the correct entity (s) that handled that dept, that would've been sufficient minus the tude. I could not believe she is working with the public, no smile, no personality, just a blank stare who clearly should not have patient contact. This girl really needs to find a grave yard shift job where she has no human contact that way she won't have to "deal" with any patient questions. It is very unfortunate that 2 of the office staff members that work here are obviously not happy in their job, (life etc...) however, they should not be bringing their bad attitudes to such a professional atmosphere. I think this office members should wear name tags, though I'm sure they never will because they know they will have to be held accountable. I know If I would have asked their names, I would've received a false name and more attitude from them, so description and clothing is all I can do to identify them. Thank goodness the Dr's and Ultrasound Technicians make up for these two girls or this place would surely be out of business! read more

I came here for my first trimester scan. The examination room was very pleasant, and they have excellent and very modern equipment (black and white, but very clear). The technician was a sweetheart, and she was able to take some excellent images of our little one. She clearly described what we were seeing and let us hear the heartbeat for the first time. She was also quick with my bloodtest, which was relatively painless. The staff in the front is also very nice. So, why not 5 stars? Because I had an 11:00 AM appointment, and I was not seen until 11:45 AM, but I was done at 11:55 AM. I am self-employed, and I do not appreciate when people don't keep timely appointments. That being said, I back for my subsequent tests. On subsequent visits, they did not keep me waiting for quite so long. Also, another ding because they are not clear when giving test results - make sure to ask LOTS of questions. read more

I have visited the location 3 times during my first Trimester. I have gotten two ultrasounds and 2 blood draws during my visits. So far everyone has been very friendly and caring. My insurance has covered all my services. I received genetic counseling and information about blood testing in a very detail manner by the genetic counselor and they answered all my questions and concerns. I also was offered the Maternity21 a fairly new blood test that checks chromosomes and the sex of the baby at about 11 weeks. I got results in less than 2 weeks. I also got the State Prenatal blood testing and the results in the less than 2 weeks. Dr, Chan met with us through our anatomy ultra sound at 18 weeks and he was very nice, caring and answered every question and concerned. The ultrasounds were in color, and rooms are comfortable and have chairs for your partner. They also have a Flat screen TV display so you are able to see the baby better. We got about 6 prints at least from each ultrasound. The Technician was awesome, cheerful and very caring. She even shared her struggles with her pregnancy and why she chose her career. My blood draws went with out a hitch. My first visit was about an hour and waiting about 25 minutes, the last two visits was only 15 minute wait. Overall we had a positive experience. read more

I signed up for Yelp just to review this horrendous place. I usually let things go, but they are so bad, I could not stay quiet. I choose absolute 0 stars for this place. Not for the office staff, technicians, doctors, waiting room, TV, wait time, etc. Here is was my experience with this god awful place. I was pregnant with my very first child. This should be an exciting time. I'm older so there are always concerns, but I had faith in my lovely OB/GYN and his referral to this place. I had my first appointment, NT Scan. We arrived filled out our paperwork and waited about 45 minutes (after appointment time) to be seen. We went back the technician was nice enough, was pretty thorough, friendly, informative, etc. No problem. She even told us about this New Mother research study that was going through their office, and if we participated, we'd get a free 3D and 4 D ultrasound, cool! We signed up. My next dealings with them came for my 20 week appointment. Great technician, friendly, informative, etc. The doctor was so-so, but overall good experience. My problems arrived with them much later and very unexpectedly. At 34 weeks my OB/GYN said he wanted me to attend AMA testing (Advanced Maternal Age, I'm 39). This required me to go into the Fetal Diagnostic Center at LB Memorial Hospital. I went twice a week, and it was pretty standard, 1 day they would just monitor fetal movement and heartbeats; the other day in the week they would do that, then measure my amniotic fluid levels by way of an ultrasound. I did this for 5 weeks. My next dealings with Magella came via Fetal Weight Estimate that my doctor ordered. I was 39 weeks 4 days when I went in. They said they estimated the weight to be 9lbs 6 oz, okay not too bad. A couple days later I get a call from my OB/GYN and he tells me they informed him that my daughter was measuring rather large 44 weeks through the shoulders and abdominal area. He said he was concerned since this could cause severe damage to my baby, to me or both. He recommended a immediate Cesarean Section, I was schedule for the next day. Baby comes out, she weighed in at 8lbs 4oz and normal abdominal and shoulder measurements........um, why did I need a cesarean again?! Still not too upset, hey, better safe than sorry, I got a beautiful healthy daughter. Still no real complaints. My complaint came about mid-September when I started to received bills (I was on a PPO plan). Magella was billing me for my AMA testing. Curious, since I already received a bill from the hospital for the same thing. Turns out they are claiming they did the procedures and not the hospital. They are charging me more for reviewing results of procedures performed by hospital staff, than the hospital charged me for actually performing them, and even more than the fees I was billed for 9 months of treatment from my OB/GYN, his performing my cesarean, plus all my follow up appointments. My bill from my OB was $157, the bills from the hospital was $500, and they are charging me $1,300! They claim they performed the procedures, but the hospital said they just reviewed the reports, but this still does not motivate them to update their billing. I filed a dispute with them and they are non-responsive. I asked for an accurate invoice, all my dates of service are incorrect, and I still cannot even get an accurate invoice. So for months now I've had to waste time that I could be spending with my daughter fighting it out with them. I recommend taking your business elsewhere. If you are getting procedures through LB Memorial, verify if they are using Magella. If they are, see if you can request another physician, someone not affiliated with them. Avoid them at all cost. If you are forced to use them, watch them like a hawk and write down and document everything. I'd say to even get the names of everyone you come into contact with performing the procedures. I've been disputing this bill for the past 5 months and today I got notice they sent my account to collections. Run do not walk in the opposite direction of Magella dba Obstetrix Medical Group of Southern California. read more

Just went there yesterday, 5/21/13, for an anatomy ultrasound. After waiting over 1 hour the ultrasound tech called us in. She didn't even say hi, how are you, or congratulations on your pregnancy. She pointed us to the ultrasound room and was quiet during the entire procedure. She didn't bother explain what we were looking at. She went so fast and I was lost most of the time. At one point she said "that's the nose" but I couldn't tell so I asked her to show me again but she totally ignored me and kept moving on. I couldn't tell if my baby was moving or if it was her wand that was moving so fast so I asked if she knows if my baby was awake or sleeping. Her response was "your guess is as good as mine and if anyone were to know it's you". I thought how rude and unprofessional and decided to remain quiet for the rest of the time. This technician acts like she hates her job and as if I owe her something. I was beyond disappointed, angry, and wished I went else where for a better service. I sure will never come back to this place ever again! read more
