We came in for dinner last Sunday night during Labor Day weekend. Made a reservation on Open Table. Arrived early and were seated promptly, which is a plus. The initial service took a while. I get it, they were busy, and the server did stop by to say he would be back to get our orders. The service did get better later in the evening. We ordered drinks. I went with the smoked old fashioned which actually came out in a smoker, which was cool. For dinner, went with the Chicken Piccata. The flavor was good, but there was way too much butter in the sauce which made it a little too rich. The wife with with the Bolognese which was better and was the star of the show. Overall, not bad, but not sure I'd make the drive down here again. It's a step up from Olive Garden for sure, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money, I would probably go to a more authentic Italian joint. Also, kind of weird, I guess they let you bring pets here. We saw two dogs, one at a table and a large Labradoodle walked by our table as we were eating (inside, not outside). read more

This is definitely not a place I would come back to. The food was just okay, and we were seated in a small private room. Some of our food came out cold, and the spaghetti noodles were hard and lacked flavor. What really made the experience disappointing was the service. My friend asked for a new straw with her drink, and one of the servers responded by slamming the drink down on the table. After that interaction, she made another Shirley Temple for my other friend and used my friend's drinking straw to stir the drink, which was very unprofessional and uncomfortable to watch. It was bad enough that another server noticed what happened and came back to tell us he was going to remake the drink because there was too much syrup in it. We could tell he felt bad about the situation, and we appreciated him trying to fix it. Overall, between the mediocre food and the poor customer service, I would not return. read more

Hadn't physically been to this brick and mortar in decades. Without prior arrangements, it was an accurate 30 minute wait for a table for two. It's dark and loud. Our server likely forgot to put in our entrees (and our table) since the late arrivals next to us received everything before us. By far, the support staff (food runners/bus folks) seriously did the servers job. Getting us more water, finding our entrees.... Disappointing! This Italian spot is one of those places where you pretty much know what you're getting. The bread is honestly the standout nice and sweet, fluffy, and easily some of the better bread I've had. It's the kind of bread you can keep eating even before the food arrives. As for the food, they're not the best Italian spot around, but they're definitely not the worst either. The lasagna falls right in the middle of the pack. Nothing that completely blows you away, but it gets the job done. The biggest issue is the prices have definitely gotten out of hand. We have been coming to Maggiano's for years now. I will say this last experience I have mixed feelings. They redid this location it has more of an upscale modern look on the inside. The food also tastes different. No more bread with olive oil and vinegar (although I'm sure you can ask for this on the side) but instead they give salted rolls with butter, equally as good as the previous bread they used to give. The pesto ravioli has a different taste to it, before it would be a creamy Alfredo pesto (which I loved) with the new updated menu it's still a pesto ravioli, not as creamy since it isn't mixed with Alfredo but rather a more nutty taste to it since it has hints of pistachio. I was a little disappointed with my pastas sauce to pasta ratio - it was light on the sauce. My husband got the exact same thing and his had plenty of sauce. I did see they brought back the butter cake but we were too full to try it again. Overall we always enjoy coming here, the food is always yummy, and staff are always nice and helpful. read more

Avengers Assemble! Service stood out the most. Austin is one of the best servers we've had. Period. we were there for a business dinner, but he asked if we had a birthday and it ended up also being more of a personal celebration, even though that was not our intent. He was very attentive without constantly interrupting to see how we are. He did ask a couple of times, but we could tell he was keeping an eye out. For example, I had three iced tea refills, but never needed to ask as they showed up right by my iced tea before my iced tea even was 2/3 gone. Like Dr Strange pulling a magic teleportation trick! This is exceptional service for something that seems so nuanced and subtle. You could tell he's very attentive and proactive,, it was honestly like he had Spider-Man's Spidey-sense or was Doctor Strange using the Time Stone to look into the future and know exactly when I needed a refill tbh. He also took some substitution orders and was really attentive in that way as well. And I paid him a compliment and to ask him for his manager's contact so I could write a wonderful review, he actually brought out his manager, Jeanette. She made us feel more special and at home and even answered some of my curious questions. She definitely had that Nick Fury level of leadership orchestrating the whole restaurant perfectly. I had no idea they recently remodeled, but I could totally tell it was Newer than the New Avengers. Food was excellent! We had the Branzino and it was extremely flaky and tender! The chicken marsala was extremely moist and but just the right sauce, not too much not too little. The mushrooms were excellent as well. Everything was perfectly balanced just like Thanos always wanted lol. Okay, but not half the portions à la his Infinity Gauntlet snap. We also had the beef tenderloin medallions. Extremely moist. They were so tender they basically melted away easier than if the Human Torch took a Nova Blast to dissolve them. The crabcakes were great as well, but surprisingly, we really loved the minced arugula salad that accompanied the crabcakes. Who would've thought something simple as a regular salad could taste so excellent,, it was a total surprise hit kinda like Ant-Man coming out of nowhere to save the day when you least expect it. We ordered the chocolate cake and they provided us with a couple of lemon cookies that had happy birthday iced on them. Of course, with a small little candle. A super nice touch that was sweet enough to calm down the Hulk after a smashing spree. Parking is really easy, as it is on the outskirts of South Coast Plaza, so no shortage of parking there. It was such a relief not having to fight an alien army or find a massive spot to park the Avengers Quinjet. Ambience is really nice and charming, so I could tell it has gone even more beautiful with its decor over the years. The girl at the front was sweet, however she asked her coworker who was a young man w brown hair to take us to our table. He seemed very unprofessional and was ignoring his coworkers request. He threw his apron at the table behind her and decided to take us finally. He seemed like he was high or something... off to a bad start. Our server though was very kind to bring us menus and get us drinks immediately. Everything was going great, I do wish she checked on us more often. Haven't been to this place since the renovations so I was glad to finally have the chance to check it out. The dining area has a chic vibe and the staff is as friendly as ever. We got red sangria to drink and parmesan stuffed mushrooms for a starter. Our entrees are lasagna and mushroom ravioli. We got butter cake for dessert. Red Sangria- Sweet and refreshing. The alcohol content in it is pretty generous which is always appreciated. Parmesan Stuffed Mushrooms- This was a good starter. The mushrooms are plump a and juicy with a creamy cheese filling. Finished with a topping of breadcrumbs for a hint of crunch. Lasagna- Meaty and filling. The sauce was rich and worked well with the creamy white sauce in between layers. Love the cheesiness in each bite. Mushroom Ravioli- If you're a mushroom lover like me, this dish is for you! The ravioli is tender with a generous mushroom filling. The sauce is creamy with a hint of sweetness. Butter Cake- Such a tasty way to end the meal! The cake base is custardy and rich. Joined a friend for dinner from out of town staying in Costa Mesa. Maggianos turned out to be a great last minute pick! The food was excellent my friend ordered the chicken Parmesan, I ordered the pasta Diablo, which had a multitude of seafood and a spicy red sauce. We started with the fried mozzarella. Everything was cooked up perfection and the taste were out of this world. We got great service with bread to the table immediately that was delicious. Our drinks were always fall and the white staff was always very pleasant. The ambience was great. It's a big busy place and they have plenty of staff to service all of the guests. It was our goto for special occasions but boy has that place changed for the worse. First change was the delicious Zuccotto cake was pulled from the menu and they never offered or made effort to find an alternate cake similar again. The bread and oil & basalmic was so nice. Now they serve up sweet type ciabatta type bread. Totally ruined the classic Italian bread experience. Mozzarella appetizer was wonderful with large individual breaded squares laying on a bed of marinara. Now, it's small sticks with a dipping sauce cup. The take home to-go pasta special was a nice way to have meals for the next day. That's now gone. The only thing that still was decent was the fillet mignon. Had an early dinner reservation here for 4:45pm. We were greeted upon arrival and seated pronto (yay!). We came at shift change, but that didn't hinder the prompt service. Alex got us started with our drink order and shortly after that, had taken our food order. He handed us off to Tabitha, who was just as sweet for checking in on us throughout our dinner. Came by for a work event and this place did not disappoint. Was able to try the grilled salmon along with the house salad. First time here. I ordered the Chicken Marsala as did one other person in our party of 6. I saw lobster pasta, crab cakes, steak, spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce which all looked fantastic! We were celebrating a birthday and decided on the stuffed mushrooms, truffle bread & calamari for appetizers. They also served us complimentary bread for the table. Butter cake and tiramisu were recommended as desserts and we were also given a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl. We ordered a bit too many though so some got to take a dessert home. The bill came out to approximately $80 pp, which I felt was worth the amount of food we got. Many, including myself, had "to go" boxes also. Each meal doesn't only come with pasta. There is a hearty amount of protein accompanying the pasta. We were sat by the back kitchen door, so the ambiance could have been better, but we didn't complain. Our server was pleasant and attentive as was the manager who I asked for an extra copy of the bill. Went to Maggiano's Little Italy in Costa Mesa last night for dinner with BB and Des. From the start, the experience felt warm and welcoming. We started with the garlic cheese bread and the crab cakes with lobster cream, both of which were excellent. The complimentary bread and butter deserves its own mention -- sweet, soft, and pillowy, easily a standout before the meal even began. For our entrees, we ordered the bone-in ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus, the lobster carbonara, and the shrimp scampi. Everything was done really well. The ribeye was tender and cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes had a subtle garlic flavor, and the lobster carbonara was creamy and generously filled with lobster. The addition of sugar snap peas was a nice touch. The shrimp scampi was well-seasoned and served with large, properly cooked shrimp. The only downsides were related to the space and environment. The seating areas felt tight between booths and tables, and the floors were extremely slippery, possibly from oil. Outside, the mats leading to the entrance were soaked from the storm and bunched up, which felt a bit unsafe. Overall, the meal was definitely worth it. I would absolutely return and recommend Maggiano's, especially for the food. read more

We had an amazing lunch at Maggiano's in Costa Mesa today. We sat at the bar and had wonderful service from an amazing and joyful bartender/server Candice. What an amazing personality and true professional. Courtney, CJ and the manager Alfredo also assisted in creating a wonderful dining experience. We started with drinks as my wife had a mojito and I had an iced tea. The fresh bread and butter was so good. My wife ordered the chicken francese and I had the fettuccine bolognese and both dishes were prepared, presented and served to perfection. The new booths, hardwood floors, and updated look make the whole place feel fresh without losing its cozy vibe. I had the Rigatoni D and it was delicious. The Chicken Marsala was also really good. Years ago, Used to think it was over hyped and simply an over glorified and hyperbolically described Olive Garden, macaroni grill or old spaghetti factory. Like the same carbon copy just trying to cater to a slightly fancier or more high end clientele. It still may be that to some degree as far as multi state chain restaurants are concerned but it's definitely better than all the above . And obviously more relevant and edible than like a Buca di Beppo (that shiz even still exist?) Anyways, my homies and my gf seem to really enjoy this place and we've had our fair share of special moments. The service is more professional and overall just more pleasant. And I've personally been helped by my fair share of awesome servers, bussers, host etc And they really do have a great fettuccine bruh. They even say it in the name of the entree. I decided to bring my mom here for Mother's day and enjoyed all of it! We made a reservation about a week ago just incase there was a long wait. I highly recommend making a reservation before going because when we arrived, the line was down to the parking lot. It was packed! We instantly got sat and our server, Alex, stopped by with some water and greeted us. We were informed on Mother's day, they have a set menu. It was 2 salads, 2 apps, 4 entrees and 3 desserts for $55 per person. This was a lot of food! We honestly got full after the apps hit. Everything was sooo delicious and yummy. Alex, was extremely nice and friendly throughout the entire experience. They were very busy and all the servers were running around so we understood if he fell behind. I'll definitely be coming back. We ordered the Alfredo, baked ziti, calamari, crab cakes, and a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious, and we definitely ordered enough food to feed a small Italian family reunion. The restaurant was also spotless. The tables, floors, and restrooms were all extremely clean, which I always appreciate. My only issue was the soda water. It wasn't filtered, but somehow the regular water was. What the heck? How does that even work? I had to order a Pellegrino because apparently the bubbles took a different plumbing route. I had ordered take out spaghetti meatballs and grilled herb salmon. One thing I hate about restaurants is when they don't put the prices on their menu. And they know that lots of people don't like to ask. Very good business scheme, robbing ppl out of their money especially when the food totally sucks for the price! The spaghetti was so so dry not much sauce there. Meatballs taste too much bread mixed in it. That meal was about $26. What pisses me off though, was the grilled Salmon at whooping $32, just salmon and some stingy spinach that came with it!!! What the heck? And it was cooked terribly. Overcooked dried Salmon, was so tasteless, they forgot to season the fish, or is salt too pricey for them to add? For an establishment to charge that kinda price that sucks so badly, the chef needs to go back to culinary school! Anyone could have done this better! One star for good service over the phone, one star for quick assembly. Oh almost forgot that they automatically have the credit card system set to 18%, another scam imo. Maggiano's is an Italian Chain Restaurant located at South Coast Plaza that has pretty good food with fair portion sizes. In the past, I've found that this was a convenient place to get a group reservation and price was reasonable for what they give you. They often have good deals for prix fixe meals for groups and there's something for everyone. Most recently, I came here prior to a show at Segerstrom Center of the Arts and enjoyed Spaghetti with a Wagyu Meatballs and extra marinara on the side. The marinara had nice tomato and basil flavor, the pasta was unmistakably house made as it had a nice chew and bite and the wagyu meatball was pretty juicy. Since my last visit, it appears that they have quite a few Wagyu offerings at this time and it looks like they source their Wagyu from Snake River Farms, which is a pretty reputable vendor. I also got a Grand Margarita, which came with Disaronno Amaretto instead of Tequila. This "italian Margarita" has a smooth flavor and it's quite strong, which is perfect as a pre-show drink. My wife got a rigatoni pasta with sausage and vodka sauce and it was deliciously savory. I enjoyed their version of this pasta more than North Italia's version of it. Overall, I think this is a solid place to eat at South Coast Plaza where you can get pretty good quality and value. read more

Who doesn't love Italian food?? My friend and I stopped by the bar during the World Series and we had a great time! The bartender there was sooo friendly and recommended our dishes. Overall I really enjoyed the atmosphere because they had both the bar and high tables that were self serve. We ordered the bruschetta (not pictured) the classic Spaghetti and Wagyu meatball and the Linguine Di Mare. The bruschetta was a 10/10 and I could have ordered multiple of those. I ordered the spaghetti with marinara sauce but would recommend getting the meat sauce in the future as it only comes with one meatball. My friend enjoyed the linguine but the sauce is a little spicy so for those who don't like it, I would skip out. My only gripe was that the calamari wasn't that great. It was a little soggy and the marinara sauce in my opinion didn't pair well. Overall, I enjoyed my time and am looking forward to dining properly at the tables next time. read more

Adam was such an amazing server!!! Very friendly and fast with everything. Even with a full section of tables, he anticipated all of our needs and made our experience really enjoyable.
