Read the reviews carefully, where there's smoke there is fire. My experience was terrible to say the least. Incompetent operation from top to bottom. Over the course of a year they still never properly fixed my pellet stove. Each tech that came out thought it was a different problem. Then they said they're weren't able to find parts for my stove but in 5 minutes I found options online. I ordered the part I needed, replaced it and it works fine now. Sadly that was after wasting way too much money on this outfit. If you haven't engaged them yet, run away while you still can. read more

TriCounty Hearth and Patio sent them out to clean and repair a pellet stove insert. They pretended the unit was getting no power by removing the fuse and not putting it back in correctly. They told me that they had the measurements and that the office would call me with a new insert for me to buy. When the fuse was put in correctly, the unit got power. read more

The chimney sweeps were excellent. They found that I had a chimney fire and required repairs totaling $13,000. They provided all the documentation to get my insurance company to cover the cost. They completed the repairs and the fireplace drafts as well as it did new. I would give them four stars. My issue is with the owner of this business - Magic Broom and Tri County Hearth and Patio in Waldorf, MD. My dealing with him leaves a lot to be desired. I have purchased over $23,000 worth of upgrades to three fireplaces - the repair ($13,000), a gas fireplace ($8,000) and gas logs ($2,000). The fireplace burns dirty and the entire inside is covered with soot in about two hours of use. I have ask them to fix the issue. They responded twice but did not correct the issue. Now they have refuse to respond to phone calls or emails. I have had to contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer indicates something is wrong, the fireplace should burn clean. They are trying to help and indicate that the dealer should be addressing this issue since the fireplace is still under warranty. I expect I will need to find another dealer to help solve this issue. Tri County has completely ignored all of my attempts to get help. I would not recommend doing business with Tri County. read more

After calling three companies, I'm glad to have landed with Magic Broom. The cleaning is a bit pricey compared to other companies that I've used in other states, but unfortunately, prices in the DC area are just higher. I made a request for service online and received a prompt reply from Joshua K. via email, and scheduled an appointment. When the office called to confirm the appointment, Magic Broom had changed the time window to 8-10a instead of 10a-2p, without my knowledge. So, my only downgrade on the review is to recommend that the office staff first ask the customer if the schedule change is okay, before using the word "confirm," otherwise I might have missed the technician's arrival based on the appointment time that I was given originally. On the morning of my appointment, I received a text message and an email, approximately 40 minutes apart, letting me know that my technician was "on the way," so that was a bit confusing, especially since I had asked for a 30-minute out call (I later found out that the note about calling me was placed at the bottom of the order, so the technician never received it, but Kristi--who is so on the ball--called to let me know that, and that the technician was about five minutes away). Just know that the text and email messaging is computer-generated, it is not coming directly from the technician. My technician, Will C., arrived well within the (revised) time window promised. He did a great job, including capturing pictures of the flue, as well as the chimney crown; then he advised me of service options and provided on-the-spot estimates electronically. I was very impressed with Will C's professionalism and knowledge, so I highly recommend him as a service technician. Another thing that I greatly appreciate is that Magic Broom technicians use coverings to protect clients' floors, without being asked. This company combines old-fashioned hands-on skilled work with technology to keep its customers informed (although sometimes over-notifying via text and email). Disreputable crooks! If they'll cheat and elderly widow, they'll cheat you! Magic Broom was contacted to clean my elderly mother's chimney. They said the fee would be $349.00. They showed up, DID NOT clean the chimney, and STILL charged my mother $349.00! These people are dishonest and not to be trusted. To get their $349.00 they charged my mother, a recent widow, a $200 show-up fee! Which is reasonable (sarcasm) since they had to travel a full FIVE (5) MILES to get here! And also charged $149.00 for a $60 cap you can buy on amazon! They did not disclose that ridiculous fee when they were hired! Additionally, their assessment of the chimney was inaccurate as well. They claimed there were bats but they are in fact chimney swifts (a federally protected bird). After leaving three messages, I finally got a person. I was then contacted by the manager (Brian), Brian promised to get back with me after talking to the Owner. That was a week ago. I gave them an opportunity to make this right and they refused, instead, choosing to take advantage of the elderly. After a fire in my pellet stove, I requested this company to inspect the stove and write a report to my insurance company. The service technician said that it needed just a cleaning and new pipes and promptly charged me $199. My insurance company insisted on another inspection and turns out that a main component failed. If I would have taken the advice of Magic Broom I would have had another fire. Do NOT use this company. They took me for $199 and I got nothing! read more

Glenn was very informative as to what I have, capabilities and function. Left me with a gleamingly clean fireplace and recommendations for future maintenance (which I found very reasonable). First of all, this review is a little late and reflects my experience in 2014. I have an open fireplace that usually requires basic cleaning after one or two winter seasons, depending on how much hardwood I burn. I don't burn pine. Two young men arrived as scheduled, bring a shopvac into the house, lay a black sheet on the floor in front of the FP, shove the vaccum tube up the chimney, turn on the vac and go to the roof. They didn't cover the front of the FP to prevent any dust and ash from coming into the house (as done in previous years). I always watch what's going on when they're inside the house and this time I decided to setup a camera outside to monitor what's being done. What a surprise. My stainless steel chimney cap is removed and given a couple taps on the roof to knock off loose ash. No wire brush, no wiping with a rag, nothing... then they attach the chimney brush to two extension rods and push it up and down the flu TWICE and are done in 90 seconds. This is after I burned a tremendous amount of wood over two seasons. You gotta be kidding me. They never used a flashlight to look down the FP for a basic inspection. They did however, use a flashlight while inside the house after vacuuming but you can't see all the way to the top from down below. I'm so disappointed that I bought a chimney brush with extension rods from Amazon for $55 and do the cleaning myself. read more

I had a very good experience with Magic Broom. Called and scheduled the appointment to come clean the chimney and fireplace insert. They called the day before they were due to arrive and gave me a 2 hour window. The morning of the service call they sent me a text with a picture of the lead service tech (Adam) and let me know he was on the way. The service team arrived on time, cleaned and inspected the chimney then gave me a much needed tutorial on how to use the fireplace insert in my new house. They were friendly and professional and I would not hesitate to use them again for any fireplace needs. read more

I walked into magic broom looking for a service to come clean my chimney. I met with Josh and I scheduled an appointment to have somebody come evaluate my stove and chimney. During his presentation at the store he said I needed a stove pipe liner inserted. After several weeks the technician came to evaluate my chimney. The technician said this will cost $200 only after they looked down my chimney and did minimal visual work . He asked if I knew this was $200 charge and I said I didn't know. He did not tell before he before he started his evaluation. I was very surprised and tried to call Josh. He didn't answer. They wanted payment immediately for $200 . ! The full job would cost $8000 to install a chimney liner in my existing chimney. I only wanted an evaluation and Josh never said he wanted $200 for an evaluation . What a scam. He did not tell me up front it was $200 while I was in his shop, I will never shop there again. I've spent alot of money buying stuff at his store . Glenn and Herb came out to service our Heat N Glo gas fireplace, check into why there was a delay and boom upon turning it on and clean it. While they were very nice guys, the fireplace only worked for a day after they lit the pilot. I had to wait another 10 days before another service call and it only working for about 12 hours after that visit. Clearly, something was wrong, but they seemed unwilling or unable to diagnose the issue. After some research, which they should have been able to do too, I came to my own conclusion, which I shared with them, over two more phone calls. Then Josh came and looked at the fireplace for about 10 minutes. It has now been over a month from the original service call, and after a hefty fee, I still don't have a working fireplace. How can you charge to service and clean a fireplace and it still not be working? I don't think Magic Broom is handling this in a customer friendly or professional manner. I've gone in to the store to speak with someone personally, only to be told to leave a message. I've called several times, only to have calls not returned. When I finally did get a call back, I was told another appointment was two more weeks away and there would be another fee. Paying more is not the answer, when what I already paid should have left me with a clean and working gas fireplace. I would not recommend this company for cleaning or service of any Heat N Glo gas fireplaces. read more

They did not want to give us an estimate over the phone without seeing the fireplace, which I think they should have given us a price range. They did a good job, however the price was way more than I wanted to pay. I would suggest if you use them to make sure you get a quote before they do the work. read more

They told us our chimney needed $20K worth of work when two other licensed chimney inspectors said nothing was wrong and this was a common occurrence with Magic Broom. Dear Rona Kelley: We made the mistake of purchasing a gas fireplace from Tri County Hearth and Patio and hiring Magic Broom Chimney Sweeps to install it along with a stone wall. Your company made mistakes at every juncture from the sale through the final installment. Although we signed a contract in July, the fireplace was not completed until December 21st and the installation took exactly one month. The fireplace turned black with soot upon the first use and then stopped working again after your company finished the project. My wife and I had to read the manual and install the logs correctly to fix the problem. Then this summer we found the unit didn't work once again! Tri County sales staff told us we had no warranty and we were forced to use another company. $435 and three visits from contractors later, we fixed your mistakes yet again. It is time your company takes responsibility for its poor performance. The following is a detailed account of our experience: July 2013: Signed contract for gas fireplace with stone wall. August 31st 2013: Paid 20% down and picked stone. October 4th: Emailed Jodi asking for timeline of installation. NO reply. October 10th: Called Tri County and asked to speak to a manager. Asked when the fireplace would be installed. He put me on hold. He then said we were "lucky" to get it scheduled as it was "rare to schedule so late." It was obvious that NOTHING had been done and he just scheduled it on the spot. November 21 - 26th - First round of installation. Although the stone installation was not finished, the fireplace worked. Unfortunately, it turned black on the first use because it was left in a natural gas setting and we have propane After two more visits finished. Then stopped working again in January. Had to fix ourselves. August/September 2014 - Unit didn't work at all again. Told my Tri County/Magic Broom that we had no warranty. Had to hire another company. $435 in bills to pay for other company plus electrician to wire correctly and fix outlets according to code. Now it works, despite all the efforts of Magic Broom Chimney Sweeps to the contrary. October 2014 - sent letter with pictures to owner and never received reply. November 2014 - filed complaint with better business bureau and Magic broom has ignored them too. read more

While we are not happy with the lack of service or quality of product we purchased (a wood burning insert) from Tri County Hearth and Patio, we were satisfied with the service portion by the two technicians (Ryan and Sean). An accounting of our latest experience: Jun 2014 - bought a replacement fan assembly from Tri-County. Salesman told my wife that it was an easy replacement, plug and play type simple. BL...it isn't. Oct 2014 - appointment made and assembly installed with no difficulty. Feb 2015 - fan assembly fails. An appointment made through Tri County to replace fan assembly. The appointment system was you call and request a day of the week and they call you back the day before they intend to come out and tell you the time "window" the technicians will be there. To know the day before an appointment reeks havoc for those that have to schedule time-off from work. The night before our appointment, I received a voice mail from Sherrie canceling our appointment due to snow and was instructed to call again later to reschedule. You guessed it, another week goes by playing the guessing game on what day that appointment was going to be. On Monday morning I called Sherrie to confirm my requested date of Tuesday since i hadn't heard from Tri Country previously. Sherrie explained that the technicians would be there on Monday...that day. Long story short - they didn't show up until Tuesday. When they arrived the work order from Tri County listed a pellet stove vice wood stove insert...yes, this despite the fact that we bought our wood insert from them AND they had been here previously to install and back again to repair the stove. Despite the fact that Ryan and Sean didn't have the right part, they made it work by installing a similar part that had gone bad. It works... While happy with Ryan and Sean - they were both knowledgeable and professional - I would NOT recommend anyone do business with Tri County after the experience that we had. To Magic Broom's credit, the supervisor did give us a discount on the service call and so the installation only costs approx. 8x what the part costs. read more
