I have tied to be a fan, but am just not there. I'll start with the positives. The drive through takeout utilizing a bank drive through window is pretty cool, I prefer to just walk in but can see how some would find it easier to stay in vehicle. I like that they have ground beef as an option in tacos and other dishes, theirs is basically ground beef with little to no seasoning, but not oily or salty. All tacos seem to be served with pickled red onions too. My dine in experience a year ago was lackluster to be kind. Queso fundido dip was NOT fun. Fried pickles( not my idea to order) forgettable. I was coerced by the kind waiter not to order my first choice of entree, I went with a chicken chimi and again, not even a gringo restaurant worthy version . After that visit I wrote this place off as there are several better ones closer to home. I returned again due to a recent search for the best breakfast burritos in this area . I ordered a bacon burrito with light sauce. It was good, very small in stature and not very much egg. If I grabbed this from a fast food place I might think I found the holy grail( for half of this ones price) but it wasn't even served with containers of salsa. Backed it up with ok ground beef tacos, saved by the pickled red onions. I know that many like this place, but for the items I order, it's just not my favorite. With the original Btown location reopening soon, I'm more apt to go there next.

I was pleased to see that they had my favorite fresh fruit drink, Tamarindo, so we were off to a good start The chicken tortilla soup had a good flavor, but it had no tortilla strips in it, and I had to ask for them. It also had pieces of corn and other veg in too. I know every family has their own version, but I wondered if my new to the job server brought me the wrong soup. It was good, but it was an unusual departure from my experience with the many, many chicken tortilla soups I've had elsewhere. The meal was more than taken to a new level with the main dish, which was by far, one of the best chili rellenos dishes I've had in the area. The chilies and cheese were good in themselves, but it was the red sauce that was the real star of the plate--not super spicy, but spicy enough and super flavorful. Chili rellenos have always been my litmus test for a Mexican place, and this one definitely passed the test. Along with the chilies, there was a choice of pinto or black beans, which is great, because most of the places around here seem more black bean centric, and I grew up on pintos. I would 100% return for this dish. The next visit was for breakfast, and I had the famous Huevos Rancheros, and they lived up to expectations. The excellent pinto beans provided a base for perfectly cooked eggs and a very good house made sauce. If you're expecting the melted cheese covered mess seen in many places, then you're in for a treat. The dish came with a side of potatoes, and they gave me the option of deep fried home fries. I don't like home fries as a rule (they're boring, hash brown wannabes), but the deep fry gave them flavor and a crispy outer layer, something lacking in most home fries. There were a handful of burned ones, but they died for a good cause. Our other dish was a very good California Benedict with a healthy serving of avocado, bacon, and two more correctly cooked eggs. I don't know, but getting an over-easy egg seems pretty hard to get right sometimes, so it's always a small victory when it actually happens. Service was attentive on both visits, and the inexperienced server from my first trip was assisted by a more experienced one midway through the service. Both breakfast plates and the main lunch dish I tried were absolute winners and worthy of repeating. The chicken tortilla soup didn't set my heart aflame, and I wouldn't get it again except to see if it's the same.

As for the oysters, they were okay -- they were fresh, but lacked the sharply briny flavor profile that I prefer. Also, presentation was a little sloppy and there were several small shell pieces. Service was pretty basic. I don't know that it was bad but it certainly wasn't extraordinary. My Mom and Aunt both got salads. I got a hot dog plate and a side salad. My Aunt enjoyed her large house salad. My Mom really didn't like her Greek salad. I ended up eating most of it. They were VERY generous with the feta. Maybe too generous. I thought it was fine. I enjoyed my side salad. The hot dog was interesting. As described on the menu, it is two hot dogs, cut in half lengthwise, then griddled, then put on a hoagie roll. It was unusual. Not bad, just different. The hoagie roll was a bit chewier than a standard hot dog bun. The sauerkraut was good. I had asked for mustard too and they brough it on the side. Overall, an OK experience.
