My boyfriend and I frequent here whenever we are hungry, and most of the restaurants that we usually go to are closed by 8pm. We love that Magic Wok stays open just a bit later than other places as our schedule gets hectic and we usually don't have time until later in the evening. Every time we come here, we are greeted by who I presume is the owner as she is always there to greet and serve us each time we visited. She is always very polite and is very quick, which I appreciate as we are usually hungry and want to put in our order fast as well as coming in usually an hour or half an hour before close so we don't want to keep them long. The dining area is very nice with several tables that can accommodate large or small groups are available. If you come in alone or just a party of 2 then they usually seat you at one of their three booths. I love that they play classical music as it is fitting to listen to and I personally love it. Each table has a soy sauce dispenser, sriracha, salt, black pepper, and now they also have hot chili oil! They also have an amazing complimentary tea that I cannot stop sipping and it is just the perfect way to balance whatever you ordered. We usually order to the lunch specials during lunch and dinner specials (either individual or family depending on how hungry we are)! They are always filling as they always come with a soup of choice, fried rice or white rice and an entrée of your choice. So far we have tried the BBQ pork, egg rolls, hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, wonton soup, orange chicken, general tsos chicken, steamed vegetables with chicken/shrimp, honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, almond chicken, sweet and sour chicken/pork, shrimp with lobster sauce, cashew chicken, BBQ pork fried rice, house special chow mein, lover's fried rice, broccoli beef, moo shu chicken, and mapa tofu. We have always enjoyed our meals and don't really have complaints. I really love their stir fried dishes more so than their fried dishes, but I also just don't particularly like fried food. The fried rice they offer for the meals is also great and does include BBQ pork and everyone that I have taken here has agreed that they have the best side fried rice. Additionally, they have probably one of the lowest prices in Federal Way especially for their lunch specials that goes from Monday to Saturday. Magic Wok always hits the Chinese food cravings and definitely worth your money. Another cute perk about dining here is that they give you a very cute and helpful calendar for the new year when you come in any time in January. My only small complaint is that you don't get checked on often depending on how busy the restaurant is or if they are eating food too, but that's understandable. It's just I always want more of their tea or need napkins, so I always make sure to ask ahead of time so that she comes back. Additionally, some times there is a temperature difference but they will be happy to fix it if you ask politely. Take out here is pretty quick and I don't think I have ever seen them be pushed back on orders and ensure that food is ready at the exact estimated time. Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know I went to Magic Wok in the neighborhood and was treated so bad I'll never go back again. The waiter was cordial, but after I placed my order - it came out in less than 5 minutes. Although the restaurant was empty she never came back to check on me so I went to the front to tell her that my meat was cold and that it had been dipped in a sweet sauce that was "hot" and she became upset at me for notifying her of this and immediately said "I get no discount" and I was in shock.... I've been here before during the daytime and had decent food but this time my experience was absolutely terrible and not a soul was in the restaurant except me. I'm not sure what's going on there but please beware if you want to get a quick bite to eat!!! I paid full price for my food and left immediately. We ordered pot stickers and barbecued pork, and the pot stickers were excellent and seemed to be homemade. The pork had good texture, but not much flavor. For entrees, we ordered General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken. They were both tasty, with good crunch, but were too similar (our fault, not theirs). I think they were both marked "spicy" on the menu, but both were only very mildly spiced. This is a fantastic American style Chinese restaurant. They also serve some specials and off menu authentic Chinese dishes if you ask nicely, sometimes. The owners live here in town, so they are a part of the community here in federal Way. They use very fresh veggies and quality meats. I always enjoy the garlic Szechwan beef, cashew chicken, Shanghai style noodles, mixed veggies, almond chicken and more. Only thing we ever had here that we didn't like was the teriyaki chicken, and that was like 6 years ago with the previous owner. We just ordered delivery, our food got here exactly when they said they'd deliver it so that's a point for reliability. We got General Tao chicken, BBQ pork fried rice and chicken chow mein. I thought the general Tao chicken had too much sauce but it was decent, the chicken meat was good none of that grizzley chicken some places use to cut corners. The chow mein was good but a little bland. I didn't like the rice, it had a taste that I can't put my finger on. Old rice maybe? I don't know but won't be ordering that again. Not exactly cheap like some of the reviews on here implied. They give you good sized portions. The crab wontons tasted like they were from the freezer but the two entrees were yummy! I always order from here whenever I don't feel like cooking. I have tried their lemon chicken, beef and broccoli, mongolian beef and crispy chow mein. Everything tasted good except for the mongolian beef. I know mongolian beef usually tastes a tad sweet but the one they have is just too sweet. They used to deliver years ago but they no longer do. We ordered Christmas dinner from Magic Wok and it was FANTASTIC! Reminds me of the yummy Chinese food I fell in love with as a kid in the '70s. The (veggie) egg rolls were fresh and crispy. Everything was very fresh, not over-cooked and not overly sweet. We ordered party trays of Pork Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein, Mongolian Beef, GenTso Chicken and Prawns with vegetables. We also ordered Hot and Sour Soup and WonTon Soup and a couple orders of Sesame Chicken. Yes, we way over-ordered for a small gathering, but we sent home lots of leftovers and it was perfect! They packaged everything well and not one drop was leaked in the car or on the counters. They supported the aluminum trays with cardboard and covered them well with heavy-duty foil. We have a family member with a severe nut allergy and Magic Wok was very accommodating. They confirmed no peanut or sesame (with exception of the Sesame Chicken that was kept separate) would be used. They prepared the order in 1.5 hours. I had called them the day before. Tina was very helpful, efficient, professional, and friendly. This is my new go-to for Chinese. The prices are horribyly, top end for horrible food. So 2 days ago I went in for some almond chicken. My wife liked their flat chicken cut up with gravy and peanuts. This monstrous chicken came breaded with none tasting gravy. We tasted it and tossed it. What a waste of $15. Here is our scores out of 10: 10 -Arrived 10 minutes earlier than it was scheduled. 5- Hot and Sour soup, needed more sour 5- House Fried Rice - Portion size was good and so was the amount of chicken pork and shrimp but the rice dish as a whole was pretty flavorless . 8 -Beef Chow Mein -This dish was excellent and the best over all because the beef was very tender and not rubbery like some places have and it was a nice mix of cabbage vegetables and soft noodles. The portion size was huge. 5- Honey Walnut Shrimp - This dish had excellent flavor but the portion size was very small for a $16 dish. I reviewed each dish on Uber Eats and hopefully they will correct the portion size . 5- Orange Chicken - Flavor was excellent in this dish but again it was portion size that didn't make the grade because half of the container was broccoli and there was no mention of broccoli when I ordered it through Uber! Oh no, they have new owners! Didn't know until I went to pick up our usual order. Food quantity was generous, food taste was - meh! Almond chicken gravy was the worst I ever had, and my tummy turned less than 15 minutes after eating it BBQ pork was awesome, but only came with one tiny pack of hot mustard and no sesame seeds - double meh! Pork fried rice was a grand amount but looked as though it had been dyed orange and had a bag of frozen vegetables added even though I requested no veggies! - Triple meh! I miss the former owners!! Always tickles my tummy when someone writes, "Best Chinese In Federal Way". I never really considered Fed Way a destination for Chinese food and truth be told, this ain't even the best Chinese on the block as Imperial garden serves a more flavorful plate in my opinion. That said, Federal Way has more than it's share of Chinese food, so the competition ain't light. Magic Wok, rumor has it that the name stems from a 2003 event where the city lost power, but the wok stayed hot and fed thousands over the next 5 days. Okay, I made that up, but you got to admit, "What is magical about a wok?" Unless there is a new movie in the works, "Harry Potter and the Magic Wok" let's keep our wands in our pockets and just enjoy a hot plate. Started with the wonton soup. Served just above room temp and the two small dumplings inside had no flavor, but it was a welcome change to the typical Hot& Sour or Egg Flower choices. The Potstickers were large, meaty and crisp, but again the sausage didn't have the kick to make me feel like it was a recipe that came from the old country. I like my Potstickers to be crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside and have the bite of an Asian meatball. Moved on to the Almond Chicken. Healthy hot portion with plenty of gravy. Better than most, but by no means the best of the best. In the end, glad we stopped. I would welcome this place to my block, but again, I would most like put this place outside of my top two picks for Federal Way. Rarely do I get to this Zip Code, but I would eat here again given the chance. The Mongolian Beef didn't have a photo, but I am curious to see how it's prepared.
