I have been hunting for a good Chinese restaurant different from Din Tai Fung, Dough Zone or Panda Express in Federal Way. Glad I found "the one". We stopped by for lunch and ordered their lunch plate with soup, egg roll and rice (all inclusive). First the soups, egg drop was great. wonton soup was flavorful but the hot and sour soup was more on the sour side. The entrees: Ma Po Tofu with sichuan peppercorns, Kung Pao Chicken with peanuts and a good assortment of vegetables and the Chicken with hot garlic sauce with its delicious flavor all hit the spot. They were also more on the spicier side which was kind of surprising given we did not ask to up the spice level. The house fried rice is as good as it gets. The service was spot on. It is quite a bit of food. All things said, they left a great "impression" :-) We had not issues with long lines for seating as we went well past core lunch time. Tip: Their lunch special plates are M-F 11 to 3 and not offered on holidays. Best time to go is closer to 2 pm. read more

I usually won't review somewhere unless I loved it. Or at least liked it a lot. Everyone has an off day. So maybe that was the case here. I was excited to try this place because I looove szechaun pepper meals and the reviews were good. First, I liked the kiosk for self-ordering upon arrival. HUGE display and simple to use. The woman running the place was friendly as far as I could tell. She smiled a lot and brought out my order quickly. Our interaction was minimal due to the kiosk. I ordered szechaun chicken, dumpling soup, and fried rice. The texture of the chicken dish was Chinese style. That thick, viscous sauce you find on chow mien that has almost no flavor. And the style of dish was more like Chinese cashew chicken. I did not taste any szech. pepper at all. The dumpling soup and rice were fine, but overall the meal was a bit bland for my taste buds. I enjoy flavors that kind of punch you in the face. Bold. My parents would probably love this place because strong flavors scare them. I will recommend to anyone who is looking for low salt and subtle flavor profiles. I think the quality of ingredients was decent. This just wasn't for me. read more

We thought this was a different Chinese restaurant, when we arrived we realized it was the wrong one but we decided to try this place, the food was meh "okay" I got a coconut smoothie with the jelly and I had to choke it down, the fried rice was absolutely disgusting, the coconut shrimp was bland, wife had Szechuan broccoli and it was absolutely horrendous, like they bathed it in spices and almost uneatable. My family, boyfriend and I would frequent Magic Wok, the previous restaurant here for lunch specials or just dinner. I was surprised to see that they are now Szechuan Impression but looked at their menu online and saw that they offer similar offerings but expanded on their menu too! I love the additions of Szechuan dishes and they have a lot more spicy options too! My boyfriend and I got a lunch special on May 12, I called to make a take out order and was put on a quick hold before getting my order taken by a nice, professional lady. I got the sliced fish delight lunch special while my boyfriend got the cashew chicken lunch special. We both got fried rice but I got hot and sour soup while he got egg flower soup. The food was ready at the estimated time of ten minutes. The inside according to my boyfriend has not changed and remains as it did when it was run by Magic Wok. The food was seasoned much better than Magic Wok and the portions were definitely bigger. I really enjoyed the different types of vegetables in my dish and they used ginger and garlic too! My boyfriend was used to how Magic Wok used to make the cashew chicken but he said it was pretty good here too but just a little spicier for his taste. We are definitely looking forward to coming back to try more of their new and traditional dishes! Edit: We came back to try their other lunch specials and the flavors were consistent and delicious as before. We just tried this place and liked it a lot. We ordered broccoli beef and sesame chicken, plus a side of white rice as everything is à la carte. I didn't look at the menu that much but really wish they had more combos. Portions are big so we'll be eating leftovers tomorrow. Flavor-wise the broccoli beef was much better than the sesame chicken which stayed crispy all the way home and even at the end of the meal, the quality of ingredients was good too. read more

The food was sooooo delicious! We got wanton , egg drop and chicken egg drop soup ( kiddos had wisdom teeth pulled so it was only soups) and I ordered house chow mein and KUNG pao three( shrimp, beef and chicken) . Service was good, friends. I did a pick up but the restaurant was a good size and decorated nicely. I will be coming back here for sure to try other dishes. I was pretty suspicious of this place. A couple reviews are from California and sorry, it's just never realistic for Californian's to be the first to review something in small town Washington. Also, the review count is low which is typically never a good sign either. I'm familiar with the area. I reviewed the burger spot across the street, as well as the Mexican place next door to this and the other Mexican spot across the way. I also recall Godfathers Pizza being in this lot which is now a Karate spot. The drug store and Grocery store have also closed here, which speaks to how slow the local economy is. OK, Service was friendly, but it was slow. Several people were waiting for take out and we waited far too long to get our menu. Also took too long to take our order which isn't good considering we were the only dine in customers. If you haven't guessed, once our order was taken, it took too long for the food to come. We were there for lunch and it was legit 10 minutes before we even got our soup, but the soup was delicious. I had the Mongolian Beef. It was flavorful, but a little sweet, not overly sweet, but sweeter than I care for. I know some places add sugar, but I think it tastes better without it. If I wanted sweet, I'd order something known for a sweet sauce. The rice was a bit dry, but some places don't have fresh rice at lunch, it's warmed up from the night before. Not sure if that was the case here, but it wasn't soft or fluffy. Listen, overall, the place was better than I expected it to be, yes, a few small changes and this could be 5 star, but the people are friendly, and the prices are fair. The portions were not massive as some said, but again, we had lunch and the lunch price is lower, so we certainly got our money's worth. This area is really out of the way, but there are so few Chinese places, This is probably the best place within 30 minutes of me, so I'm sure we'll be back at some point. Again, hardworking honest people who I am sure are doing their best to provide excellent food. Speed up the service and dial back the sugar and you got yourself a hot spot! read more

We ordered take out on Christmas Eve. Needless to say, it was busy. It took a little longer than expected but they did their best and the food was great. Well had Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, Mongolian Beef, Beef with Broccoli, Almond Fried Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. Szechuan Impression Lost a very good customer who spent hundreds of dollars there. So my husband and I loved this place. We made pick up orders regularly without any trouble until today. We usually order our pickup orders on the restaurant's preferred platform, and today was no different. But the preferred platform had recently changed to a new one and my husband noticed that when it came time to pay online he couldn't. The app said "Please pay at the restaurant". Never has that happened before but it was no big deal because we had cash. When he arrives, they hand him the order and tell him "Have a nice day". He stops them and says "Don't I have to pay you? The App said pay in store" to which they reply "No No prepaid prepaid" So he leaves. A little confused but none the less, he comes home, we eat, and then his phone is being blown up by the restaurant saying "you didn't pay" (Screenshot below). First off, he tried to pay, the person working the cash register told him he didn't need to. Now, this typically wouldn't be a big deal, We could chalk it up to a misunderstanding BUT the way they spoke to him when he tried to call back and get things settled was so unprofessional, accusatory, childish, you could use pretty much any synonym for a less than smart person and that would be applicable to the way they approached the situation (A SITUATION THAT THEY CAUSED.) While he was on the phone with them, they tried to get him to give his credit card information over the phone.....UM, Excuse me? WHAT?! He was more than willing to go in and have a face to face discussion but no they strictly wanted credit card details but Thankfully he wasn't born yesterday so, All this to say Szechuan Impression, you really need to get it together with your customer service and all around incompetence. Until we get an apology, we will never be ordering your food or recommending your restaurant to anyone. read more

I was ok with that and im thinking 10-15 min extra not a problem, 30 min later I asked about my order...same response food not ready. I asked to cancel my order and she said she can't.... Best Chinese food that we've had yet in Federal Way. We had bbq pork fried rice, house special chow mein, honey walnut prawns and beef with green beans. We loved everything. First time trying this place today. We called ahead of time to ask about a food allergy my husband has to ginger and she said can let us know what he can have. We drove from Covington, our server was amazing and checked with the chef for any ginger in any of the items he wanted. We both got amazingly hot and fresh appetizers and meals and she was so assuring to us that his meals were ginger free! We are going back for sure, the drive is worth it and service is spectacular. Ordered two dinner specials to go. Everybody there was very friendly and service was quick. I judge restaurants by how clean everything is as soon as I walk in the door and I was pleasantly surprised to find the attention to detail and cleanliness. I just didn't expect such a nice inside when looking from the outside. While we waited they gave us complimentary tea which was perfect temperature and refreshingly tasty. When we got home all the food we ordered was delicious, especially the general tso's chicken (Highly recommend!). All around a great experience and fantastic food! Even the egg rolls were fresh! Lo and behold, this place said "hot and new"- I was shocked to see that it was the old Magic Wok. DONT be fooled, this place is FAR from the rundown disgusting mess Magic Wok used to be. It is so clean and nice in here, smells amazing right when you walk in the door, and everyone is so kind. Quick service and understanding employees (I walked in with my talkative toddler in hand and 9 month old on my hip). Very tasty Chinese food! I can't believe that I overlooked this restaurant for so long. It sits in a strip mall, and doesn't look like much, but the food is superb! I'm very picky about my Chinese food, and I give this place an A+. Wow and wow. We had never been to the previous business and did see the new name sign recently go up. So, after reading the couple reviews on the new business and since we were craving good Chinese food we gave it a try. We were greeted warmly and seated. The booths appear to be newly reupholstered with no dips in the seats. Tables and chairs looked new as well. A jug of water and menus were brought to the table. The menu is extensive, which can cause concern as to how can anyplace do that many options and all the ingredients be fresh. Not to fear based on the dishes we ordered. The steamed dumplings were delicious. The house special rice was fabulous with actual real size shrimp, not the tiny bay shrimp often found. The chicken was so very fresh and very tender. I find the first time to a restaurant that uses a 1-5 spice heat determination that I need to understand what is considered a 1. Twice cooked pork was flavorful, with the spice being not overpowering but there. I would order hotter next time, but that answers the question for any other spicy dishes. Upon leaving we were thanked for coming in, We are all very happy to have such a good Chinese restaurant close to home.
