Well...we stopped here because I was absolutely starved. Saw it and stopped in. Really wish I hadn't seen it. We had a variety of food. All of it was....meh. Edible but not much flavor. You dont even get salsa in a dish. Its in a squeeze bottle that you use on each and every chip. Then pass the squeeze bottle around. Sorry to say, you should just keep driving. What I like best about Mague's is it is authentic TexMex food. It is our favorite in this area and we keep going back time after time. Being a native San Antonio boy I have eaten Mexican food all my life and Mague's has the real flavor of Mexican food both in the decor and the taste. Menudo is good. I have been eating at Mague's since the 90s when I lived in Boerne. Now that I live north of SA, I'm glad there is a Mague's on Hwy 46 in Spring branch. They have consistently had some of the best tex mex outside of the south side or south Texas. It's simple and it's real tex mex. staff is very nice and super attentive. The iced tea is very good as well. I judge good Mexican food by the rice and beans. They have some of the best out here. The salsa is very good as well. read more

We were hoping to find a good breakfast. My daughter only ever orders tacos, but hers were a little soggy, watery, and the taco meat wasn't very good at all. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Was just okay. I didn't even finish. I can't remember what my husband ordered, but he wasn't really enthusiastic about it either. We moved here from New Mexico, and this was the closest place to eat some breakfast. Wish I would have checked the reviews first. Food is good but staff is so unfriendly, to the point that you feel as though you are an inconvenience for even being there. My husband and I ordered lunch, it was 11:20; we asked for chips and salsa and was told there would be a charge. I was ok with it at first, but when she brought it out I asked her why the charge. I was told because it was not lunch yet, which she said was 11:30. Wait...what?? I'm ordering lunch, it's 10 minutes shy of 11:30, but you're still going to charge me? I told her she can take them back I don't want to be charged extra, and she said "fine, I will just have to throw them away." So, you'd rather throw them away then to not charge me for something that is served with lunch, which I ordered? Furthermore, I gave this feedback to another staff member at the register, and as I'm talking she interrupts me to tell me how much my bill is, obviously not caring enough to listen. Today was our first visit to Mague's in Bulverde (pronounced MAH-guess) and after reading the reviews, I thought we may have made a mistake. We sat ourselves and were immediately approached by a nice waitress. She returned with our beverage order in less than 2 minutes. After ordering food, two other employees stopped by the table to fill coffee and check on us. My wife and I both ordered chilaquiles. My comment is that knowing what's in a dish does not necessarily mean you can make it. Mague's version is pedestrian, with more tortilla chips than egg and too much salsa, which made it watery. Taste was marginal. Our daughters' pancakes and sausage was very good, however. So, my final rating is for exceptional service, common atmosphere, typical cost, and mediocre food (limited experience.) Two stars, with possibility of improvement. We'll try again, as well as the Boerne location. read more

This is our favorite restaurant. We love having breakfast here. The food is authentic and delicious and we always look forward to the next visit. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. More like a 3.5 star rating. This was our first visit here and I pass by at least 3 times a week. The bathrooms were clean, the food was fresh, service was prompt, and the staff was polite and friendly. Chips were light and crispy, salsa was a little spicy, but that's just a personal preference. I was a little surprised that the flavor of the enchilada sauce tasted like it was made from real ancho chiles--without the texture--but had minimal spices. Chalupas were good, the shell held up to the toppings; I would definitely order those again. The rice was fresh. Tortillas were a little tough. But all in all, not bad food for the price. read more

Be warned. We are vacation and we were told this restaurant had decent Tex-Mex. We found out the hard way this place is over priced and food is mediocre. It looks like it was cooked the night before and just microwaved. The service was not good either. The food was over priced we would been better off stopping at Mc Donald's. We had breakfast here today & we were very excited to try this location. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Wait staff seemed bothered by common requests & too busy to stop. I'd say the restaurant was at about 50% capacity. Not reason for bad service. My husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros, I ordered the Mexican plate. We also ordered chips & salsa while we waited. The waitress brought chips w only green salsa. I asked for the red too please. She brought it with about 1/8 the bottle full of it and left no bowl to put it in. So I used the bowl my creamers were in. Don't know how clean of a choice THAT was. About 45 minutes later our food comes ... finally! My husbands plate had no bacon, sausage or potatoes like the menu said. It was a plate full of WATERY, super watery refried beans & 2 eggs. Literally the beans couldn't be captured w a fork. My enchiladas were good, but the crispy taco shell was crunching apart all over the place. The flour tortillas had good chew but were very floury and over cooked. Temperatures of food was warm but not hot & coffee was weak. Consider the itch scratched for us to go to this location. Oh and the red salsa seriously tastes like a can of tomato sauce. read more
