If you have been reading my other reviews on yelp or Google you know my philosophy is that sometimes you go to a restaurant and the food isn't that great or maybe it's awful. It a situation like that, barring getting ill or having the meal be too expensive, I always say, give it another try. Cooks and Chefs have bad days/nights just like all of us. So if you can, try giving the place a second chance. However, if the wait staff is bad. They ignore you, they're rude, or if they are mean there's really no reason to go back. Those people represent the customer facing side of business and if they don't care, what does that say about the rest of the place? I can already hear some of you saying hey, they have bad days too. You're right but in sales (I've been there) you have to work it out one way or another. It can suck but whether you feel it or not you are an extremely important cog in that machine. Well, let me tell you at Royal Hyderabad on Juan Tabo, every single time I go there they care about the food and experience. They are fantastic start to end. The last time I went I got there very early to pick up my food. They offered me a seat, brought me tea, and the woman at the front struck up a conversation with me. It was friendly, nice, and in my experience of the wonderful culture. About 15 minutes later my food was ready. The woman handed me the bag. She looked at her watch, then the bag. I took the bag thanked her and wished her a good evening. I walked out the door smiling to the other customers. I was outside when it hit me that I was WAY too early pick up my food and there were several other people in line. How could they finish my food so quickly? I stopped turned around, and the woman came running outside and asked me if I could just come with her inside and wait. She noticed my name remembered who I was on. The phone asked me if I was told my food was going to take a while and she said she wanted to check my bag just to be on the safe side. She didn't think the kitchen was running that fast. Well, she was right. I had a different order and the people in the back had just made a mistake. It was just a simple miscommunication, but instead of letting me leave, she came all the way outside as I was walking to the parking lot she stopped me, asked me to come back in and helped me. She then immediately went to the back, explained what it happened and one of the chef said he would make it right and he did he had my food out in just a couple of minutes. Was recognized the person there cared enough to come get me they thanked me. They admitted to a simple mistake. They fixed the problem. Everybody was smiling at the end, and all the other customers got to see it and quite frankly, they looked impressed because they all probably know how many times they've walked out of a restaurant with an incomplete or incorrect order and nobody cared. As I have likely said before, try Royal Hyderabad on Juan Tabo. Remember that if you can't handle hot food and I mean well beyond New Mexico hot food try medium or mild. The food is delicious and I've never ever not enjoyed anything that I've tried. And the people who work there seem to really care about their clientele and treat them so nice. read more

Had a great dinner at Royal Hyderabad - East! My friend and I ordered the sizzling tandoori chicken platter, biryani rice, and a dosa, and everything came out fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The tandoori chicken especially had an amazing smoky flavor and looked awesome coming out still sizzling at the table. The portions were generous and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The menu has a lot of authentic South Indian options, and you can tell they put a lot of care into the food. Albuquerque definitely needed a spot like this, and I can see why so many people recommend it for Indian food in town. A couple small things I think could make the experience even better: the drink selection was pretty limited since they only offered Coke, water, and juice. It would be nice to see more variety. Also, they had music playing in the restaurant, but it was so low you could barely hear it, so the atmosphere could feel a little more lively with the volume turned up. If that changed I'd give them a five star. Overall though, the food and service were both great and I'd definitely come back! read more

My girlfriend took me to this unassuming Indian restaurant the other day and I must say I was quite surprised by the quality of the food. It was superb, actually! I had the butter chicken which came with basmati rice, with a side of garlic naan and bullet naan. The butter chicken was very tasty and I had no complaints. I found the naan to be a little on the bland side. The garlic naan definitely could have used more garlic and the bullet naan more heat! The staff were super friendly with smiling faces, which is a nice change of pace from the usual sullen faces elsewhere. The place is a bit bare bones in decor but is welcoming overall. The only downside are the restrooms which were just barely clean and made you want to leave as quickly as possible. I'll definitely be back for the food though as my dish was delicious and I'd like to try the other options they have. read more

We ordered 2 dosa's, chicken lollipop, butter tandoori roti and Amravati goat curry. Dosa was hard and chewy. The chutney was stale seemed like few days old. Tandoori roti was burnt and had no butter. Chicken Lollipop was ok. Amravati goat curry was good. This is no where close to Hyderabadi food. Won't recommend going there. read more

I was so excited to try this place after reading all the reviews! But honestly, due to cleanliness alone, I'm not going back. Server accidentally dropped a spoon from the goat curry, which was fine- but the Second Gentleman who came to clean it up, used a pink/orange cleaning rag on the floor. Then about 30 seconds later, the same guy is using that rag on the table next to us to clean it. And then, he grabs clean plates with the same gloves that were just touching the floor. All of clean plates were stacked on a shelf, which people walk by, and the bottom level had visible dust bunnies popping on there. The somosas favor was out of this world good. Which is devastating since I can't picture ever returning. There was also a 30 minute wait after the somosas were delivered until the curry arrived. We had been the only customer for most of that time, but somehow a table of 3 that got there after our somasas were delivered, got their entire meal delivered before we did? Our server was trying. Yet another amazing Indian restaurant in Albuquerque with friendly caring staff, delicious spicy food, and a clean welcoming environment. Like some of the other places with dosas, their food tends to be more spicy than others, and it is delicious. They have a big selection of dishes to order and are pretty quick at serving it up once they take your order. I don't believe they offer a buffet at all. read more

Shitty ordering service they have guys on call from all around the US instead of the guy who actually works at the store taking your order, when you go in person he directs you to this random phone number line who has an incompetent worker on the other end instead of just taking your order which results in extreme delays and the customer having to deal with people who don't even have an understanding of what's going on in their own restaurant read more

This place is absolutely fantastic, the food was phenomenal, truly authentic South Indian cuisine! Bursting with robust and spicy dishes that will make you think about them even when you're not hungry! Great service and very roomy inside, I highly encourage everyone to try it. Went here with my family for a special occasion dinner...my birthday. I love Indian food and I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. I'm glad we chose it and it is now my favorite Indian cuisine restaurant in town. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Kababs which were served on a hot skillet of sizzling onions, with a lime section, green chutney, seasoned yogurt and side of rice. So good! The garlic naan arrived hot to the touch, just right. I dipped a piece into the sauce of the Chicken Tikka Masala across the table from me and it was delicious. Also got to sample the Spring Dosa which I'd never tried and I loved it. The Dal Tadka was also good but even at a mild level, it was a bit spicy for me. I'll try a different type of dal next time. The ambience was pleasant and the server was quietly attentive. A special thing that happen was at the end of the meal, just before walking out. I didn't say anything to the staff about it being my birthday until we were getting ready to leave. Then I told the woman who seated us that it had turned out to be a great choice for my birthday dinner. As were were about to walk out the door, she handed me a mango smoothie to take with me as a birthday treat. That was so kind of her! I will definitely be back for so many reasons! read more

Overall: Royal Hyderabad is so good that I went there twice in 1 week. It's more of a 4.5 because the dishes that are good are GOOD but some specific dishes aren't good. Food: 4 In terms of spice level, the medium was tolerable for a spice wimp like me. Gobi Manchurian: This is a sweet and sour deep fried cauliflower. It comes out super crispy and coated in a flavorful sauce. Dosa: We've gotten multiple different ones and they were all good! My favorite is the masala dosa. Butter Chicken: Although it's super basic, I always order this because this is the BEST butter chicken that I've ever had. Other great dishes that I would recommend: Gutti Vankaya (eggplant cooked in a peanut curry), chicken tikka masala, and palak paneer The only dishes that I would not recommend are the cashew based curries like the mughlai and korma. They are always too salty when I get them. Service: 5 The servers are always very polite and friendly. They're patient when we ask questions or order more. Ambiance: 5 The restaurant has booths and normal tables. It's well lit and clean. The only downside is the parking lot has trees that aren't well trimmed so can scratch your car. read more

YES! YES! YES! How can we get so many flavors into one dish? They know what they are doing! Dosa that is as big as the table - yep, I love Dosa. I ordered the cheese dosa. It came out with 3 dips that had enough spice to let you know it was there, but not enough to make you uncomfortable! I ate about 75% there and took the rest home which still traveled well! Chicken Lollypops were next and YES please! They came with little aluminum foil booties, which made eating these a bit easier! These had so much pop of flavor! Since I wanted to try it all, I did get some Hakka noodles to go. I did like these, but I didn't find the flavor what I wanted. That's okay, I'll try something different next time! read more

We were looking for some nearby Indian and decided we'd give this place a try. I got the palak paneer, the garlic naan, and a chai. This has been a few different restaurants over the years and I was glad to see the new place had updated the decor. The food was quite good though the service was a bit on the slow side. I wasn't aware that the chai did not come with refills and they didn't tell me when I asked for more. So I was a bit surprised when I saw the bill. So just a bit of caution on the drinks, I'm not sure what the policy is on any other beverages. The portions are a bit smaller than other restaurants in town and it was a bit light on the rice for the number of people we had in the party. All in all though it was good so definitely worth a try. read more

We had a group of 6 that came here Saturday for lunch. We received a table almost immediately and were provided 2 carafes of water. Our server was able to grab our orders and all of us ordered dosas and two appetizers - Chili Gobi and Stuffed Mirchi Bhaji. Being South Indian, the bhaji was something I haven't had in a while. It tasted authentic. I wish there were some lemon slices rather than just the amchur (dried mango) powder on there. I was surprised to get my Rava Dosa first as it usually takes longer to make than a regular dosa. The sambar was spicy and good. The coconut chutney was okay, and the tomato chutney was sweet. Father's Day, 2024. Lunch. Located on Comanche and Juan Tabo, this restaurant is right by the O'Niells pub. They greeted us and sat us quickly. Unfortunately, the service slowed down considerably after that. It took about 15 minutes to take our order. This was my wife's first time trying Indian food. I wanted her to enjoy the experience. The waiter asked if she wanted it spicy. So she ordered it spicy. She ordered the Amaravati goat curry ($19.99), which came with Tender goat with spicy Indian spices made with a Royal spicy sauce and hint of coconut. I ordered the fish biryani ($19.99). This was listed as a layered, multi-colored rice dish made with fish, basmati rice, spices and herbs. I ordered mine hot as well. Mine came with the hot, spicy sauce in a separate dish as well as some white yogurt sauce. My fish had been fried and although there were a lot of pieces buried beneath the colorful rice, they were on the dry side. My wife's dish tasted like it had scorpion peppers in it. She only ate a little. This could have all been avoided by a fair warning from our waiter. If he told us how truly hot these dishes were. She liked my dish better because I could control the amount of hot sauce I added. This would have been a much more enjoyable lunch. As it was, my wife had a literal bad taste in her mouth on her first try at Indian food. I'm hopeful she will want to try it again at some point. read more

The naan was perfect, and the butter chicken was pretty darn good. Service was on the slower side, definitely a meal you'll want to sit back and enjoy. Sorry no pics again! Hungry talking people having monthly nosh! It's a new year, so let's start with new reviews!! First showed up as was escorted promptly to our table. The waitress/hostess was super attentive and courteous. I ordered the butter chicken was TO DIE FOR! Some the best I've ever had with a lovely bowl of basmati rice. Hubby and I split the palak panel and 2 order of butter naan. The naan was crisp and so well flavored, I usually get a garlic naan, but was not disappointed you should try it to! The palak paneer is like saag paneer but I felt had a deeper taste, a wonderful dish. My friends niece, who is a wee bit "picky" but got the tandoori chicken and as it hit the table steaming, it kind of intimidated her. But she scarfed it down it was a famous ly favorite! My dining adventure partner had chicken tikka Marsala. She was over the moon and said it was again some of the best we've tasted. The lighting is not bright of dim with authentic Indian music playing quietly so it was a nice place to not just eat, but have a conversation and enjoy some FANTASTIC tasty Indian fare. This is the second time we visit the restaurant. We wanted to take a friend who was in town. Had the chili chicken and gobi manchurian for appetizers and both were very good. Chili chicken definitely superior though. Gobi manchurian could've been a bit crispier but flavor was good. For entrees we loved the chicken tikka masala and chicken dum biryani. Portion of the biryani was huge which we love. Tikka was smaller but super saucy and had great flavor. We ordered a couple of mango lassis which we definitely did not enjoy as they seemed to have a different flavor that was not the traditional mango lassi we had tried here before. We saw all the good reviews and decided to give it a try. We should have paid attention to the most recent review that said cleanliness was an issue. It is. The floor looks like it hasn't been swept or mopped in months. The restroom was dirty - not sure if they do regular checks, or if they just don't care. The restroom also didn't have hot water. The exposed areas to the back area weren't clean and there were rags on the floor. It all makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. The food was meh. Several visits over the last few years and finally I think to leave a review. My wife and I had already decided Royal Hyderabad is one of our favorite resataurants when one of her co-workers imigrated to the U.S. from India suggested we meet here. Turns out it is his favorite Indian restaurant in town too. Can't really comment about any specific menu items to rave about, because everything I have ever ordered has been delicious and something to rave about. We ordered carry out and the sauce for the malai kofta was way way too salty and inedible. It wasn't even a little salty, like when you reduce a sauce, it was like a salt shaker was swimming in it. Everything else was fine. I called to let them know, and after 3 conversations they said the sauce was fine to them. I was "wrong". They decided they were not going to credit me that dish, even after I had spent $120 + big tip for the entire order. I put the malai kofta in the fridge and the next day added an entire can of coconut milk to see if that would help. It didn't help in the slightest. Wasted entree , wasted coconut milk, wasted money. Absolutely delicious dining experience at Royal Hyderabad. We went about a week ago when my husband saw it on his way home and decided it was a "now" moment! It was so good I'm reviewing it everywhere! The place is big so I'm hoping they can accommodate for larger parties for next time! The staff is friendly and inviting. They checked in frequently and provided great insight! When they say it's spicy it's next level SPICY! Tears running down my eyes but I loved it! We got the garlic and plain naan both of which were delicious. The buttery garlic naan was the best adding another depth of flavor to the naan and the food. I got the chicken vindaloo the spiciest of the three dishes. A delicious blend of spices with chicken and diced potatoes. My husband got the chettinad chicken, chettinad spices with onion tomato and chicken. This one was my favorite and both dishes came with a side bowl of bastimi rice. Finally my sister got the chicken tikka kebab. The portion size is amazing the flavor of the bastimi rice was refreshing, believe it had mint in it. And finally we ended the dinner with some incredibly sweet Gulab Jamun, a small fried milk dessert soaking in rose honey syrup. We had leftovers and they were still delicious the next day. I'm so glad to see a new restaurant in this spot! I came here on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Biryani and my boyfriend ordered the Paneer Tika Kabob. We also ordered some garlic naan and the vegetable samosas. Everything was delicious! I will definitely be back!! The only negative I would say about this restaurant was that the service was very slow. My food came out about 20 minutes later than my boyfriends. Don't let the haters get you down, this is the best-tasting, most flavorful Indian food in Albuquerque. The portions are relatively small, but each dish is absolutely packed with spices. You'll understand what I mean here as soon as you step out of your car. The smell this building emits is incredible. Masala Dosa 5/5 - A crispy on the outside, soft on the inside dosa, stuffed with a spiced potato filling, and surrounded with three dipping sauces and a soup. An entree unto itself. Chicken Vindaloo - 4.5/5 Deep, rich flavor. New Mexicans: think a really rich red chile stew. Warming and hearty. Slightly oily. Garlic Naan - 3.5/5 A bit oily, and not quite garlicy enough. The only thing I'd probably not order again, but still enjoyable. Indian Tea - 4/5 A warming, sweet, milk-based chai tea. Very pleasant on a cold day. Gulab Jamun - 5/5 Soft sponge-cake-like dough soaked in rosewater and honey sauce. They don't skimp on the rosewater here and it really shows. A real punch of flavor. Much more than "just sweet." Ambience - 4/5 Upscale and pleasant but not pretentious. A word to would-be eaters. The kitchen does tend to bring out the dishes "as they're ready," so if you want to eat things in a specific order (including appetizers and dessert), I'd recommend staggering your orders here. read more

As a general rule, I'm consistently disappointed with America's take on Indian food. Blame my friend and once roommate Sireesha, whose family emigrated from Hyderabad. Every weekend her mother would drop by with homemade chicken, lamb and cauliflower curries, and they were simply astonishing, spice and herb explosions that were so godd@mn hot they forced me to take a bite, chew, breathe, swallow, take a sip of water, and bite again. I lived for Sireesha's mother's food, and I have never tasted anything resembling that nosh since I graduated and moved out. Save London, I guess. I've visited a few great Indian restaurants in London, and yes, of course that city is world-renowned for great Indian fare, but I've always wondered, why not Albuquerque? We LOVE spicy food, we live for a culinary challenge, how come I always walk away from an Indian meal feeling... underwhelmed? Not anymore. The Avakai Chicken Curry I slurped up (in folds of fresh garlic naan, yum) at lunch the other day was LEGIT, on all levels: exceptionally spicy (per my request), loaded with herbs, clearly just out of the pan, atop delicate Basmati rice -- the real deal. I was very disappointed in this place last night. I went in there as I have several times before and ordered a rather expensive meat dish. When it came, there was no meat in it. The server took some time to come back and when she did, I told her there was no meat in the dish and I hadn't even eaten half of the meal. She told me there was nothing she could do about it and then I should've said something earlier, but this is the first time she came to the table. I was kind of shocked that she wouldn't at least bring a bit of me out to the table or reduce the price because it was the most expensive dish on the menu. Very delicious Indian food!!! Server's were attentive and made. sure our needs were met. Their recommendations were spot on. (You all know I don't give a five star review easily) Husband's Chicken Tikki Marsala was delicious. My Goat / Mutton Marsala was equally scrumptious. Both orders were served with rice. We added 3 orders of Na'an as husband eats both his Mexican and Indian food with tortillas/na'an. The bill for 2 of us was right under $55.00. (What we average for a meal out these days) Our only minor complaints for this restaurant is they serve canned soda drinks for $2.90, don't serve standard ice tea, but serve a sweetened Indian Chai, Indian Coffee and such. As someone who does not drink carbonated drinks, and doesn't drink sugared drinks, my only option was water. This complaint was small enough it did not impact our 5 star rating.
