Our dog was in severe respiratory distress and was refused to be seen because we were not a client…read more They handed my husband a business card for an emergency hospital over 40 minutes away after making my husband think someone was coming out to help him carry in our 100+ lb dog for more than 5 min. Our home is less than 5 min from this NOT animal hospital and my husband rushed back home to pick me up. When he filled me in I called them up and told them I was coming right back to their "animal hospital" because our dog did not have 40 min to live. I ran inside to three people standing at the receptionist desk who continued to refuse service because 1) we were not a client 2) they were not an emergency clinic and 3) we did not have payment of at least $500 for an "emergency" visit. Then after getting "permission" from the business owner (another 5 min wait while they got her on the phone) my husband was allowed to bring our dog into the clinic. They would only allow my husband back (but not into the exam room) and made me stay in the waiting room and fill out paperwork and take payment (another 10 min). During this time my husband said they were still not doing anything to treat our dog. He came flying out front to get me about 5-7 min into the paperwork because he knew our dog had minutes possibly only seconds left. I ran to the back leaving the unfinished paperwork, my phone, and my wallet at the front desk and into the exam room where they would not let my husband go minutes before and started crying and saying goodbye. Our dog died a few minutes later. He was a healthy 9yo AmStaff with no medical history that most likely died from heart failure secondary to respiratory distress/possible aspiration. From onset of symptoms to death was less than 90 min, at least half of that time fighting with this "animal hospital" to just see our dying beloved furkid. If the staff had been more concerned with a suffering animal and less concerned with our client status, receiving payment, or getting permission from the business owner my precious baby boy might still be alive instead of us preparing for his burial. I now know this animal "hospital" is actually not a hospital but a clinic for cats and small dogs for wellness visits and spay/neutering according to their website and FB page but when you are new to an area and your beloved pet is in crisis and you have driven past the sign for "Lehighton Animal Hospital" you do not expect to be turned away in a life and death situation. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of care/concern provided to a stricken animal mom/dad was shocking. It was only after our beloved boy was gone that the staff showed any sympathy and actually ended up not charging us for the minimal care given. IMO I believe it is because they failed to appropriately respond to an emergency situation that resulted in a death that may have been prevented if time had not been wasted on following policies and procedures. I would NOT recommend this clinic even for routine wellness visits as it's clear that even if you are their client if it's an emergency they will turn you away and send you 40+ minutes away to the closest emergency clinic and hopefully your beloved animal has more than 40 minutes to live! If I could I would give this animal "hospital" negative stars. My best recommendation to this clinic is CHANGE THE NAME OF YOUR PRACTICE!! It is clear from reviews both on Yelp and Google that this our situation is NOT unique and the misnomer of HOSPITAL in the clinic name has caused a lot of stress and sadness to several non-clients in recent years.

I get told no they will not accept that way of payment which is something you can do but they are refusing cause the owner doesn't feel comfortable? It is a business your feelings do not matterif it is a service offered you need yo accept it. the only feeling I care about is your feeling for animals. This is obviously lacking. I am trying to pay for a surgery for a dog. Not rob the bank. This is Leighton not the pentagon. This is for a senior patient who needs help and you refuse to help. I…read morecontemplated for a few days about writing this....We normally take our fur babies to COMPANION ANIMAL HOSPITAL ...Wednesday afternoon, when our little old lady Boston Terrier, went into seizures, and possibly a stroke, she couldn't move her legs and was having extreme difficulty breathing...We immediately phoned the COMPANION, where she has been receiving treatment for heart problems and such, so they were aware of her condition, and asked to speak to a doctor or if we could bring her over immediately.... The woman on the phone said she would speak to the doctor...she came back on the line and we were told the doctor would not come to the phone and we should take our dog to an emergency animal hospital....I asked the woman if it this was because they were closed...and the response was...."No, we're booked"...I explained again the circumstances and stated I didn't feel our dog was going to make it....again...she stated there was nothing they could do.....This however is what they post on their WEB PAGE.... Emergency & Urgent Care We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 5 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Emergencies can be things such a poisoning, hit by car, LENGTHY SEIZURES, etc. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency........ Obviously, in our particular case, they must have forgot what they advertise....Remember, THEY WERE STILL OPEN at the time. I'm sure they were busy, and I'm sure the "virus stuff" excuse will have some bearing on their response...but the lack of compassion or care they exhibited, just very much disappointed us. Ultimately, in a panic, we called WILLOW CREEK VETERINARY HOSPITAL, a friend of mine had told me about this place a while ago.....they told us to bring her down IMMEDIATELY FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT...We had never been there before, but they took us without question....ultimately our little girl had to be let go to fly with the Angels.....However, the concern and compassion and care, the doctor and staff at WILLOW CREEK showed us, have made a lasting impression on us....remember we were NOT their patients...but they treated our dog in her final moments like they had her all her life... Obviously I am writing this out of disappointment for how we feel we were abandoned in a time of dire medical need by the folks at COMPANION....I am sure there are those that have had good experiences at COMPANION ...I am not writing to sway anyone's belief....merely to vent my frustration...
