    California Roll and Eel Roll
    Leena S.

I had not been to Mahzu in years, but recently found myself here twice in the last month. Once was for hibachi with a group of 20 and the second time was for sushi with my husband. I'm happy to report that both experiences were wonderful with great service and good food. The hibachi chefs are animated and quite fun to watch. The clear soup, noodles and rice accompanying the hibachi is just delicious and everyone in our party of 20 enjoyed their meal. We also came here on a weeknight for sushi and much to our surprise they offer 20% off all classic rolls Tuesday - Thursday. The sushi was all fresh and we both enjoyed our selection of Spicy Tuna, Christmas in July, Yellowtail, California and Eel Roll.

A grab and go experience for me. We were passing by the area and stopped for a quick lunch, ended up taking it to go to save some time so we didn't experience the whole diner experience. But the poke bowl was just ok and the staff was attentive.

    Hibachi Salmon

Got the steak hibachi dinner and the salmon hibachi dinner. The steak and salmon were both extremely flavorful and were cooked just right. The hibachi dinners each came with a small bowl of soup, a small bowl of salad, 2 shrimps, fried rice, fried noodles, and fried vegetables. The portions of the teppanyaki food items were very large! I went there hungry and could barely finish half of my plate. The "show" part of the hibachi was rather lackluster. They did the onion volcano and the thing where they have you try to catch some vegetable pieces in your mouth, but the onion volcano was very short/small and we didn't see other standard tricks like the egg tossing. Our chef was very nice and friendly though. Service was good throughout the meal- employees and chefs were very engaging and checked in periodically. The wait at the start was a bit long, especially given the hibachi grill section of the restaurant was essentially empty besides one other party finishing the last of their dinner. It was later explained to us that they were waiting to see if other people would show up (the setup inside is multiple seats along a counter/table that stretches around the grill, so different parties could be seated at the same table/grill). It was very quiet when we went, but made sense given that it was Superbowl Sunday and most people were probably otherwise occupied. Overall, a good place for very yummy hibachi/teppanyaki food. Come for the food, not for the show. Also fyi there's an auto-gratuity of 20% for parties of 2 or more and a $7 sharing fee.

The staff here is so nice and welcoming. The place itself is so clean and wide open. The hibachi is a great experience of the culinary expertise and Al a carte menu has a wide range of food choices from all kinds of meats for hibachi to sushi rolls and ramen bowls and much more. The experience is unforgettable and the expertise of the chef are highly commendable. The food taste great and meat are fresh. And Ofcourse they're cooked in front of you. The vegeterian food is Cooked in the kitchen on a different skillet. Which was great to know. Highly recommend this place.

Lunch review. All 4 stars are for the quality of the food. The chicken tempura was the juiciest I'd ever had. Fish portions in the rolls were ample. Lunch specials included miso soup & salad. Service was slow, but friendly. Half the space is for hibachi dining, the other half for regular seating. We were seated in the back, which was dark during the day, and cell service was spotty. Of course, you're not there to be on the phone, and they do have wifi, but it was also spotty. It's ok if you don't mind missing phone calls or texts.

    Chicken Katsu Ramen.
    Renee H.

Starting with the high quality napkins to the engaging and amicable waiter this place is all thumbs up. The clear broth soup full of umami lingers even after the entree is consumed. The Chicken Katzu Ramen is smooth and abundant and the Hibachi Shrimp lightly grilled to the perfect tenderness. Miraculously open on Monday, we lucked out with this opportunity to enjoy lunch here.

Lobster tail cooked in minced garlic. My favorite of all the meats along with the scallops. Less fishy than the scallops.

Gracious server! The music was adorable "Japanese city pop…read more" style. I enjoyed the salmon bento. It came with a salad ginger dressing. I did take half of it home. Absolutely delicious and fresh! My bff got the gyoza and tonkatsu ramen and was thrilled about the flavor. They have a seriously loyal customer base. I was happy to try it tonight! I am very grateful to the hard-working staff that took care of us tonight and prepared such a lovely food and gave such nice service. I would write a song about it on my ukelele about the quirky preciousness of the waitress and decor and music and Japanese knicknacks... but the food was quite lovely. Happy to be in their wonderful care.

Parking was easy to find, the lot is shared with the rest of the small strip mall anchored by a CVS. The young lady who took my order over the phone also greeted me when I entered. She was so nice, helpful and detailed when explaining the menu. The inside of the restaurant appeared clean and welcoming for dining in. They offer chilled and room temperature Chinese flavored waters, Japanese marble sodas, Thai tea, soda and sparkling water. My wife and kids wanted Chicken Teriyaki $10.75 - the lunch portion came with veggies and rice. The portion was small, but they all enjoyed the flavors and said the chicken was fresh. I had ordered the Shoyu Ramen (Chashu pork) Corn, nori, boiled egg, kikurage and scallion at $14.75. The noodles were a big glob and had to be broken up. The broth was spicy, delicious and made up for the noodles. The pork was two thinly sliced medallions that were juicy and flavorful. I made three bowls of soup with the portion, so it was plenty for a second/third meal. I also ordered the Yummy Yummy Roll off the special roll menu $14.75 - Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, salmon, eel sauce, spicy mayo & tobiko. It didn't hold together well and was ok/good. I would try another roll if I return. Their menu is pretty extensive with Japanese offerings of soups, salad, yakitori, sushi/sashimi, gyoza, hibachi meals, bento box meals, udon, ramen, etc. If I have a return trip I would eat in if having ramen, but the take out experience was good. I'll say it again the young lady working there was patient and an absolute pleasure to deal with! Thanks guys!

I…read moregot the chance and I will say that the food perfectly represents the concept of friendship. Brand: 5/5 Nagoya is a Japanese restaurant located in Friendship Plaza in Howell Township. I do like the brush stroke of the logo, which shows well on the entrance sign and the leather-bound menu. Website: 3/5 I do like the first impressions that Nagoya's website gives you, with an image of the sushi and an option to select "Pick Up and Delivery," which leads you to their usage of the app MenuSifu. The gallery of images of the food do provide a glimpse into the establishment's cuisine. While a couple of the menu items had images, most of them did not. It should be noted that Nagoya has unusual time lapses in terms of when they are open or closed, which the Yelp description provides a better format for explaining it than the website does. Wait Time: 5/5 I experienced no delays or disruptions during the wait time. Ambiance: 5/5 This Japanese restaurant has the unique ambiance of having multicolored lights shown upon the glass walls, while the dimmed lights gave the interior a cool vibe. This includes the dark color of the tables and the seats, all of which felt comfortable. I can clearly see how this establishment would be used for celebrations. The well-spaced tables percolated throughout the large space. The music showcased Japanese Christmas songs throughout the establishment. Food: 4/5 I ordered the Alaskan Roll, which consists of salmon, cucumber, and avocado. The vegetables gave the special roll its sharp, distinct taste. Clearly, I can see how Alaska would have a major theme in the roll with the presence of salmon. The rice and the nori sheet did not stay, and the sushi rolls did fall apart, though I did think that the rice and the other ingredients had good texture. Service: 5/5 The staff managed to provide my order without any issues. Worth The Money?: 5/5 The Alaskan Roll perfectly represents the brand of Nagoya, as among its selection of unique sushi rolls. I personally suggest creating a more unique rolls, for I would be curious as to what they would taste like. Indeed, the website provides you with many other selections of Japanese cuisine. You can also expect to find your sushi roll well-tended despite the nori sheet and the wait time it took to make them. Throughout my meal, the ambiance greatly matched the experience. The service matched the food well, since the meal had the sushi roll, the wasabi, and the yellowtail available. Concerning the first impressions of Nagoya, I definitely did not expect the establishment to have the more upbeat ambiance compared to other Japanese restaurants I went to. I will say that it did give me a new experience, despite the website's presentation. As such, the ambiance never once tried my patience while awaiting my order. I can see how the staff managed to keep the establishment cared for. I will say that the Alaskan Roll and the experience overall managed to match the price and make it worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars With an establishment like Nagoya, I see plenty of hope for improvement and it will continue to represent Friendship Plaza pleasantly. I would definitely consider Nagoya my second choice when searching for Japanese restaurants in the Howell Township area. Recommend To... Anyone wandering around the large Friendship Plaza if they go to the Shoprite there if they are looking to try Japanese cuisine.

Then, one of the sushi chefs must have been sick or something because he was coughing and SNEEZING fully onto the food he was working on without covering his mouth or turning away or anything.
