Excellent night out in Marblehead. We have heard great things about the relatively new Mai Tai Lounge and decided to try it despite it being 45 minutes from our house. It was worth the drive! All six of us enjoyed every aspect of the night as the food, drinks and service were all outstanding. Let's start with the drinks. The waiterealized that we were going to try a variety of the Mai Tai's. He asked me specific questions about the first Mai Tai and once I told him what I really liked about it, he said "I will get you a Mai Tai that is just as great" and he was right. Fun, tasty drinks that were served cold and refreshing. The Asian pear infused gin was outstanding. We went heavy on the appetizers (Small Plates) as we had the Lobster Rangoon (we ended up ordering a 2nd order because they were so good), Thai Style Spare Ribs, Mai's Mango Scallop, Calamari and Spring Rolls. They were all excellent as they all had distinct flavors that were perfect for each item. We ended up splitting the entrees because we had so much food during the "Small Plates". We were happy that we decided to split the entrees because they were generous portions. We had the Sea Bass, Filet Mignon, Mai Tai Lounge Steak and a couple of bowls of Fried Rice and Noodles. My husband and I decided to try the Mai Tai Lounge about a month ago. The restaurant serves a variety of higher-end Asian and American food. There was everything from garlic noodles to shrimp scampi to fillet mignon. Not too much for a vegetarian unfortunately, which is why I am rating it a 4 (plus it is a little too expensive). I put together a vegetarian meal by combining sides and appetizers, while my husband enjoyed his shrimp scampi. The menu does have a few pasta dishes that they specify they can make vegetarian. But nothing much with an Asian bent. An Asian eggplant or tofu dish would be appreciated. The restaurant's atmosphere has a great feel to it, and it was busy the night we tried it. The cocktails were good, the food was fresh, and the server was both friendly and seasoned, making sure we were comped a dessert when something went slightly awry. I would recommend going to Mai Tai Lounge for an elegant and satisfying dinner at a place with a cosmopolitan and energetic vibe. read more

Mai Tai Lounge has been one of the best dining experiences of my life. This is saying something as I've enjoyed food from some of the most well-known restaurants in the world. The ingredients are of excellent quality and the recipes are simply superb. The dishes present a feast for the eyes, body, and soul. The staff is very knowledgeable and works hard to truly take care of their customers. The owners are polite, incredibly generous, and take time to know their diners. They are always there, refining and fine-tuning, paying close attention to detail. The place is very clean and offers a welcoming ambience. I couldn't ask for a better experience. This restaurant requires you to suspend your beliefs of what a Chinese Restaurant supposed to be both in the ambience, food choices and pricing. No one is going to say that this place is cheap. In fact it's the only reason why I knocked it down a star was the pricing. In all other respects, it checks all the boxes. Food quality and presentation was beyond my expectations. Our server Henry was spot on with his suggestions and timing of the dishes served. Again, the food flavors were both complex and subtle at the same time. Bring some company with you. There are so many food option choices that you'll need enough people to get a good sample of the menu. And don't get me started on the drink selection. I went to Boston to visit my family over the weekend and was recommended to check out Mai Tai Lounge in Marblehead. We made a reservation for dinner, and we were promptly situated after being greeted warmly by the host. I was impressed by the atmosphere; the restaurant has a nice open bar area with beautiful lights, catchy melodies and modern decoration. Our bartender was Kevin, who brought us to unforgettable experiences. We started the night with the signature Mai Tai and the Lobster Rangoon and Grilled Octopus. The rangoon is crispy and filled with rich cream cheese and fresh lobster, I enjoy the sauce drizzle on top of the rangoon as well. The combination of grilled tender octopus and salad with sweet and sour dressing is just beautiful. As Kevin's recommendations, we ordered the Seared Duck Breast in red curry sauce and grilled lamb chop over garlic noodle. I am a fan of curry and this was the first time I tried the duck version and I am amazed with the tenderness of the duck breast blend in the vegetables and curry sauce. Needless to say about the lamb chops, the decoration was a plus on top of the flavors. On the second round of drink, my BF was curious to try out the Pho Cocktails which we believed the name came from the famous Vietnamese Pho. The presentation is just a big WOW, Kevin is unquestionably an artist for not only making great drinks but also for his art of decoration, the Pho cocktail is a fruity mix with a hint of cinnamon. I decided to treat myself the special drink from the house, In Chambers which is known as one drink per guest only without knowing that I going to watch a mini performance. The rare Japanese Whiskey is poured over the perfectly sphere shaped rock, then get smoked inside the chamber to create the woody smokey flavor. I enjoy the show too much that I forgot other guests are also shifting attention to my drink :D It is one of the best spots we visit during our Boston trip and it is such a pleasure getting to know Kevin the mixologist. WAY MORE THAN JUST THE NAME... You might think with the name "Mai Tai Lounge" that you would find a good bar that serves nice drinks. Yes, you'll find that at "Mai Tai Lounge" - AND so much more! This is not your typical Asian/Chinese restaurant. I think the cuisine is simply the best Asian food on the North Shore, and amazing. Chef Ramsay would be proud of the presentation. Unique offerings, not just "standard Chinese fare." Think "Lobster Rangoon," not just the ever present crab Rangoon. Chicken Satay tender and juicy with grill marks that would make BBQers proud - and an incredible peanut sauce to boot. Think Asian Filet Mignon prepared to the finest Boston steak house standards. Asian Salmon that is simply delightful. Lobster Pad Thai? Scrumptious! We have now enjoyed over a dozen dinners at Mai Tai and continue to be impressed with the food, and the excellent personal service - from the top notch wait staff to Kevin, the manager par excellence. The Mai Tais were ok, not great. We tried 2 different kinds. Not enough rum and flavor wasn't quite right. The food was ok, not even close to great. We shared lobster Rangoon, Peking duck rolls & chicken satay, then the lobster Pad Thai (lobster was over cooked). The one positive is the service. Friendly and timely. Manager even came over to check on us. This was a one and done for us. I guess if you live in Marblehead and want to meet friends for a drink and watch sports it's a decent spot. We actually visited the restaurant's website before dining ( which does not, at any point, claim to be a Thai food restaurant) and also have enough deductive reasoning skills to know that "tai" in the context of "Mai tai" referred more to their extensive bar menu of...you guessed it, Mai Tais. I love Thai food and unfortunately, this restaurant was a complete disappointment. I went for Valentines day and as most restaurants do on this day there was a fixed menu which is understandable due to the high demand; however you cannot call yourself a Thai Restaurant and there is no Thai food on your menu. If I wanted to go to an American restaurant I would've simply made a reservation for American cuisine. When asked to speak to the manager she stated that this is not their typical menu and if I come on another days I will find all most of the Thai foods I asked for/expected to find. She then stated that the restaurant was Thai fusion and American...this is no excuse. When speaking to my waitress and I ask her if she could point me to one authentic entree on the menu that was Thai and guess what?? She could not answer. A typical Thai restaurant has popular dishes such as pad thai, crab rangoon, spring rolls etc. The menu provided doesn't have at least one of the dishes I mentioned. I went for my 30th birthday with my husband. It was on a Tuesday around 6pm so it was very quiet in there. I got the Moscow Mule and hubby got a beer and cucumber cocktail. The cocktails were good, but a little strong as we got a little buzzed off just half of it. I was disappointed because I really wanted shellfish, such as clams and oysters, but they didn't have it that day. So I couldn't try the seafood tower, clams casino or razor clams. However, we still got to try an off-menu clam dish which was really good. The rest of food was delicious! The spicy seafood salad was my favorite, it was surprisingly really spicy that my lips were burning. We also tried the Duck eggrolls, Grilled octopus, Lobster Rangoon, Mango scallops, and roasted Brussels sprouts. I got a complementary Martini for my birthday and felt bad that I couldn't finish it as it was too strong for me. Overall, I would come again and hope there would be oysters and clams next time! Outstanding dining and service experience! Came here for an early Sunday dinner and we were completely impressed by everything we ate. However, the standout main dish was most definitely the perfectly cooked and fresh steamed Black Sea bass - served simply and full of flavor. For small plates, the pork belly bao was the winner for sure. This was not your typical gelatinous pork belly, but rather a lean, tender slice of pork that was crispy on one side and nestled in a soft bao bun with spicy jalapeños and other veggies. Service was friendly and attentive with helpful ordering suggestions along the way. The presentation of the food was artful and thoughtful. While we didn't order anything too fancy for drinks (just a mai tai that was fresh and excellent), we watched some serious cocktails being prepared at the bar, including some drink with a edible "smoke" bubble on top, which made for some good theater. Wow , what a pleasure to dine here . First I loved the decor , very sharp and comfortable. Upon sitting down a waiter promptly came over and greeted us with a big smile and welcome . The menu had so many new options for food and drinks . We picked out Mai Tai's and there were many to pick form on the menu. I got the "on the clock Mai tai " and it was delicious and was topped off with a fresh orchid . We ordered some ribs , duck, rice, lettuce wraps , lobster Rangoon and chicken satay . Everything was delicious , the sauces were amazing and we loved it all . When we finished the waiter brought over two desserts , a sticky rice with mango and a delicious pineapple orange ice cream on the house . The chef came out and said hello at our table as well. Went on a Friday night with a small group. My friend called to make a reservation for 5 people at 7pm. We got there and they said they had put the reservation down for 2pm. Not sure how that happened but they were able to squeeze us in. As a vegetarian Asian restaurants are usually a great option but they have NO vegetarian mains or appetizers. They have noodles and rice with just vegetables as a side, and they also said they have veggie spring rolls when I asked. The noodles were good with a nice spice. My friends got the lobster rangoon and said they couldn't taste or see the lobster. The drinks were very expensive and the music was aggressive and loud. read more

I had chicken in lettuce leaves--hot but edible--and chicken satay--usually that dish is not hot but the peanut sauce was 10-alarm. I got two apps for takeout Saturday and they were both amazing! Lobster Rangoon was crispy but not greasy - just perfect. And there were four huge pieces. And the lemongrass beef was delicious and presented over greens and this amazing slaw. I was back a few nights later and enjoyed a Mai Tai, which was served over crushed ice in a custom logo'd mason jar - CUTE!
