I had come here when they initially opened over two years ago and didn't recall any of their meals being memorable. I mostly came because I had a gift certificate for my birthday. Coming on a Saturday around 1 PM, there were plenty of seats to pick from. Eating by myself, I ordered their 435 Paradise Road, Steamed juicy buns with pork, Spicy Tuna Tartare, and Grilled Shrimp with Cold Noodle Salad. I loved the presentation of the drink since it had the dehydrated lime and ginger slices served over the top with a sprig of cilantro. The presentation across the board was phenomenal especially for the tuna tartar that had the spicy mayo and eel sauce drizzled across. The bits of tempura kept the texture interesting along with the bed of shredded daikon. Pork buns were deliciously juicy and paired with the soy sauce/vinegar mixture which enhances the flavors even more. The cold noodles were my least favorite dish as I ended up adding some of the bun sauce to make it more flavorful. Shrimps were plump and had a thin crispy layer on them. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. My waiter was incredibly attentive cleaning up my table as I cleared the plates. Ambience is beautiful and relaxing. I appreciated how the menu specified whether dishes were Japanese or Shanghai style. I will now be getting my gift certificates for my friends the next time I go back! read more

The food was really good, if basic, and I really enjoyed my cocktail immensely too. I don't recall cost so that probably means it was average/reasonable. I don't remember service either, which, as someone with a hospitality background, tells me it was not stellar nor subpar. Memorable things are entirely so because they are memorable, and I can't really say that for this place in particular. BUT, by the same token, the food and drink was definitely solid, and it was my first (and so far only) time to have a back-waiter bot, literally, so that's definitely memorable! Haha! I'd go again, and more than once, too. Friends really love it. I feel a bit bad not giving five stars as there is absolutely nothing wrong with the place, so it's at least a solid four. Nothing is totally standout but also every part of the experience is either quite good or at least acceptable. To be fair, I give big credit for the originality which I don't see here, BUT also to be fair I give big credit to places that produce good quality which I DO see here (at least considering food taste; the ambience and service is "fine" as in nothing special and nothing bad). She ordered a salad while I had soup dumplings as an appetizer (they're the only place I've been able to find soup dumplings in the area.). Her salad arrived and as she was eating it she noticed a dead fly, so we said something to the bar tender. His reply was super alarming. He said - yes, we have lots of flies here. Needless to say, we didn't wait for our main courses to arrive. We paid our bill and went to another restaurant for dinner. Because we were dissatisfied with both the service and food, we decided to not leave a tip. The waitress followed us to the car asking us for a tip. Got a big sushi platter ordered from here and one thing we asked for was salmon sashimi. The sashimi was interesting but not in a good way. Salmon sashimi is supposed to be soft and melt in your mouth. But instead, they gave me bad,thick sliced salmon that smelled very fishy and had a bit of tougher texture. I was disappointed and I hope it was a one time thing and that other people did not get served bad sashimi. People could get sick from this. The wasabi was strange too. Both my father and I thought the wasabi did not taste like any wasabi we've tried from other sushi restaurants. Wasabi mostly burns in the back of your nose but this wasabi did not do that and it also had more of a red pepper taste ? It tasted like they put something of their own to it. My family decided to try this new place after getting their menu in the mail. Since it was Christmas Eve and really cold we decided on delivery. They advertise that they deliver to Swampscott and Marblehead. So I placed the order online and it said they didn't deliver to my address, which last I checked was in Marblehead. No special explanation. No notice that they weren't delivering during the holidays. Nothing. So since we wanted to still try Chi we decided to do pick up. The food was waiting for me when I arrived. Two members of my family did say their food was good, but my Pad Thai was the most bland Pad Thai I have ever had. So between the no explanation non delivery to at town they say they deliver to and the bland food they have earned only one star from me. Of course enter through the doors, you enter a beautiful space with high ceilings, a bar with dining room that is dimly lit with lighting making for a charming atmosphere for the dining room. Sat down at the bar, the bar tender introduced himself and handed a menu within arriving after a couple of minutes. I started with the 435 Paradise Road, a delicate Bulleit Bourbon cocktail with candied ginger on the ice. Eat the ginger and take a sip. It was a delightfully unique, drink and it was fantaztic. For dinner, opted for the Scorpion Maki, just something small (I wasn't terribly hungry and didn't want a large meal). The Maki was savory, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The manifest presentation was a pleasant. The staff do great work with presentation for their food and drink. I'd like to come back and try more. read more

Four of us stopped in Saturday night and were immediately greeted by the host and the manager. They were in a soft-opening phase and after welcoming us, told us that the fan in the kitchen had stopped working and the kitchen was currently closed (technician on his way). They offered us a $10 gift card to Gourmet Garden across the street and also said that the sushi bar is open. We opted to stay and have sushi. The manager did say that it's possible the kitchen will reopen within the hour. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. The service was professional and attentive. The sushi chef sent over a fantastic complimentary salad--the Fusion Salmon Salad (lightly torched salmon served with seafood and seaweed salad and spicy teriyaki miso dressing). Salmon is the one fish I don't like and this salad was fantastic. I'd definitely order it again. It was generous in size, especially for the four of us to share. Among the four of us, we got several different rolls. They were all very good and at a lower price point than some other sushi options in Swampscott. What impressed me as soon as we walked in is the decor. Beautifully decorated, cool light fixtures and a nice bar with a few TVs. We weren't that far from the bar, and I couldn't hear the TV (that's a good thing). I only give four stars because the kitchen was closed and we didn't try anything on the menu beyond sushi.
