As someone who normally does not wear makeup, it was difficult to find examples of hair styles that suited my preferences. I wanted to wear glasses, and have my hair mostly down, with bangs. You would not believe the lack of brides-in-glasses examples they have online! #thestruggleisreal Nevertheless, as fate would have it, I did find Joey and we scheduled a trial run on the day of our engagement shoot. It went so well! Not only was Joey patient and kind, but she delivered a look that I loved so much, I wanted the same style for the day of my wedding. My makeup felt light and looked very natural - essentially I "looked like myself," which is exactly what I was hoping for. Joey not only went above and beyond by coming to my home to get ready ridiculously early in the morning, but she came afterwards to do touch-ups! I had a long gap in between my ceremony and the reception, and it was so nice of her to come pretty me up again. She also gave me great tips on how to remove my makeup at the end of the day. This review is for Joey. Writing this after two weeks to ensure I don't let emotions get in the way…read morebecause I had strong, sad emotions on the day of. I had Joey as my artist. It was for my city hall wedding. Summary below. Detailed review followed. Tl:dr: South Asians - find somebody else. The eye makeup was great but that was about it. The complexion matching and evening out Skin tone wasn't great. I have a pretty nice skin with no acne or scars - with one caveat. I'm south Asian so I have dark circles and slightly darkened skin around my lips. And Joey had neither the right products or the experience to even those out. We removed and reapplied the full base three times and still didn't get the results. The hair were rushed and hence didn't have the nice smooth, flowy bun which was the brief. Joey tried but I don't think this is their strength. Also, we decided to plan this in a few weeks so I didn't have time to do a trial. Definitely got burned. Joey is a nice person but I definitely wouldn't have chosen them if I'd done a trial. Pros: 1. Both Fiona and Joey were good to talk to and coordinate. Joey came on time and was prompt with communication. 2. One star for the eye shadow application which was great. Lashes took a while to get right but great when they did! Cons: 1. Complextion: My biggest brief to them was about evening out my skin tone around my lips and covering up my dark circles. And after three application and a cry session later - still didnt not get it right. She didn't have the right products to color correct or match the tone. Results: great eyelids with dark circles underneath and darkness around lips and on chin. 2. Hair: I'd asked for a simple, loose bun with smooth hair. We'd even aligned on pictures. But because we'd spent so much time on the face, she didn't have time to smoothen and straighten. Only ended up curling into a tight bun full of hair spray and wax to get over that we hadn't straightened the hair. 3. The base makeup didn't stay well beyond 5 hours (maybe because of the rushing at the end) and it became patchy after 5-6 hours

We actually forgot a spot during my session but she recalled later and told me to come back and get it done again. Uhhhh-mazing, right? Who does that? And another client who had come in before me was asking to do a spray tan right after a regular tan and Bianca told her it wasn't a good idea because of the lotion and all and I just appreciate great customer service like B's. She could've made extra money there and then but she had the customer's interest at heart. Oh, and I got so many compliments on my make-up, you don't even know. We liked the overall look; it was exactly what we wanted. She arrived at 5:30am since we wanted to be ready by 8, and was super friendly and energetic, despite the early start. Crystal did a fantastic job on my wedding makeup! I did a makeup trial for our engagement photo session a few months before the wedding, and Crystal created a natural look that accentuated my best features. Crystal was able to replicate the same look for the wedding. I received many compliments on my makeup in the engagement photos and on my wedding day. Thank you, Crystal! In addition to being a top-notch makeup artist, Crystal was a pleasure to work with -- she was responsive to emails and flexible with scheduling (about a week before the wedding, I realized that it would be better if she could start at 9 am on our wedding day instead of the previously agreed upon 10:30 am, and she was able to accommodate the change). Also, Crystal's good taste in music may not seem particularly relevant in this situation, but the music she streamed during the trial and wedding makeup sessions helped create a cheerful and celebratory mood, which helped me relax. I was contemplating changing the shadow but the morning of confirmed with Janet I wanted the same look as the trial but with a satin pink lipstick instead of gloss. She went rogue on my wedding day and did a completely different look. I asked her to fix it which put us an hour behind schedule. I had an outfit change later to an Indian lehenga and Janet, without asking, changed my make up to be darker. This is not what I wanted for my wedding day. We were already behind so I didn't say anything. It felt racist that because I am Indian she assumed I wanted a darker/heavier makeup look with my Indian dress when all my inspo was light/fresh to a soft glam look. So this is a warning, if you don't want to be surprised on your wedding day do not book Raven or her team!

Truly a makeup expert…read more Makeup is an art. When you have an artist that understands that each face is a fresh canvas to display your art, Janet is one of the best around. Every time I work with a model, my pictures come out better because I used Janet. She's even done my makeup before! I had a black eye one time and had to film a series. She was able to hide the black eye and we were still able to use the footage. As a matter of fact you probably wouldn't even be able to tell that I had makeup on. Whether it's for photography or film, Janet is incredibly experienced in nearly every situation that I've thrown at her. She even did my wife's makeup for our wedding! I didn't really want to do a makeup trial because I was only doing a simple City Hall Wedding. I was so pleased/relieved that Lily did not pressure me to do a trial and just told me to email her the hair & makeup styles that I liked. I was really impressed with how quickly Lily responded to my emails (I had quite a few questions and even had to change my appointment time). On the day of my wedding, my mom and I went to her studio to get my makeup done. Lily's studio has a bathroom & an area to change, just in case you need to change into your dress and head directly to your wedding (which I thought I would have to do, but Lily finished my makeup/hair earlier than expected). My mom had no idea what type of makeup style she wanted, so she just let Lily decide. My mom was very happy with the result. I knew exactly what hair & makeup style I wanted and emailed a few examples to Lily and she perfected it! I was also very worried that my lipstick would transfer/dry out during the wedding, but Lily told me not to worry and packed me some lipstick and gloss to go (I actually didn't really need to reapply because it stayed on very well).
