The shower door was installed less than four months ago, and the paint has already peeled off. I read other reviews where customer service stated that it is made of aluminum. But the door still rusting.

    Rust at track
    Jasmine R.

My contractor sourced the shower glass door from Maika'i Cabinet & Stone Building Supply. I noticed some paint peeling and what appears to be rust when I cleaned the track with a toothbrush yesterday. What a poor quality ! I just got this door less than three months ago. They told me this is stainless steel glass door ! But you see the quality how's terrible it!

This was supposed to be screwed in. They just glued it and threw away the screws that came with the hardware kit. They did this twice.

Maika'i installed damaged/ defective floor tiles in both my bathrooms and tried to say the scratches were part of the "design" of the tiles. One bathroom had 18 scratches and the other had 14. The scratches are between 3-5 inches in length and are very noticeable on the polished surface. First they tried to say it wasn't noticeable then they said it was part of the design. They will not replace it or refund me enough so I can hire another contractor to replace it. The work supervisor Jun sent me pictures of another customers shower walls that had the same scratched tiles with red arrows pointing out the scratches and said it was "not noticeable unless you looked at it at an angle." This means they are installing defective/ damaged material in other customers homes too. I saved many years to afford this remodel and I am devastated by their poor work and materials. They also did a bad job of grout on the shower floors and bathroom floors and when I asked why the pipes they installed for my tub to walk in shower conversion were off center they said they always do it that way. If they had told me they planned to install the pipes off center before they did it I would have hired a different company. Communication is very poor with this company. None of the workers on site speak English and their "supervisor" is rarely there so the workers are left on their own and they have poor judgement and little common sense. The owner Q never answers e mails or text messages when you have concerns and the supervisor Jun tries to charge you extra to fix problems they caused that should have just been done right the first time. They were supposed to install shower doors I bought from Home Depot but on their first attempt the doors were askew and not aligning parallel to the shower walls and they only glued the door jams on instead of following the instruction manual and using the provided wall anchors and screws that came with the kit. Then they threw away the box. I sent them a video from Home Depot showing them how to do it. The supervisor Jun assured me that he and the workers had watched the video and would do it correctly with screws the next day. The next day I called Jun and he said he was there when they put the screws in. I told him that the door jams peeled off the walls because once again they only used glue and no screws. I had to hire a different contractor to put in the doors even though in our signed contract Maika'i was supposed to provide the labor to install the doors and I paid them to do it. The owner Q said that it wasn't necessary to follow the instruction manual for installing the doors because his office worker who used to work at Home Depot said it wasn't necessary. I would guess that this worker has never installed a Delta Contemporary sliding shower door in their life. They put so much grout on the shower floor it obscured the floor tiles and you couldn't pry out the shower drain if you had a clog that needed to be snaked. Then they chipped the tile when the chiseled off the excess grout off the drain cap. Other red flags to watch out for: they want most of the money upfront or halfway through with only 5% due at completion of work. This gives them little incentive to finish in a timely manner or do a good job the way a 50% at completion would. They wanted me to buy flooring from their store for them to install but it only had a 10 year warranty. I told them my brother's flooring from Bougainville had a lifetime warranty for residential use and Jun said they could make theirs a lifetime warranty because they worked closely with the manufacturer in China. I needed popcorn ceiling that had asbestos in it removed. Although the contract I signed with them said if the ceiling had asbestos it would have to be professionally abated, Jun told me they could remove it even though it had asbestos and "we do it all the time." I told him his workers didn't have protection from breathing it in and I didn't want them getting mesothelioma. I also didn't want me or my family to get mesothelioma from their contaminating the whole house and the abatement company said it is illegal to be dumping that stuff in regular trash. I could go on but this is getting pretty long. My advice to you would be to know they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau but you can still file a complaint against them with the BBB and the BBB will work to mediate for you, you can file a complaint with the Hawaii state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, but most importantly do not hire this company! Save yourself the stress and sleepless nights. They are cheaper than most other companies but there is a reason for that. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you get even less than you paid for...

We found Maikai through our real estate agent (whom I found through yelp!). We quickly contacted and met up with them to get an estimate for our total 3-bedroom condo renovation. Their quote was not only cheaper than the other companies but also they were much easier to communicate and work with. They are very flexible with requests, customizations, and allowing us to find some of our own materials to integrate it into their work. David and Q were the point men on the project and made it very clear what was happening and what to expect. They gutted and rebuilt the entire 1200 sq ft condo in less than a month! This included plumbing, electricity, flooring, reconfiguring the kitchen, and a/c. They scraped the popcorn ceiling and had to work with our difficult cement walls and ceiling. They also came back and did our jalousie windows which made a huge difference in comfort. They have a lot of workers on their team including some with amazing skills like their tile guy. Just look at my bathrooms. We were so in love with the final products and he managed to make it happen after looking at our Pinterest photos and vague descriptions. We are thrilled with their work and recommend them to anyone looking to renovate. We are now working with them to get our new house completely built from the ground up. We are super excited! Btw they just opened a new show room in Aiea (near Home Depot). It's quite beautiful and has a lot of wonderful options that make deciding details much easier. It's worth stopping by to take a look.

quartz: fine lines calacatta Kitchen still under const. but countertops look good!

Maika'i is a great company to have our countertops done. They were true to their word , meaning when they say Ill call you , they call. Timing was everything for me on this job. I needed countertops done yesterday for a listing. I was even willing to pay a premium to expedite things. No need. I paid and he scheduled and the countertops were done the next day. Granted this wont happen in every situation but it happened in my and WOW!! The have an outstanding price point very competitive and the quality of the work was awesome. Scott was my main point of contact and I appreciate his work and getting things done. Thank you to all Maika'i Cabinet and Stone. went with, " fine lines calacatta white " quartz. really nice for our kitchen

So happy with my bathroom renovation! The quality of work is top notch! Scott and team completed the project in record time and I am so happy the results. Scott is so helpful and listens to your ideas. Great company to work with! Try them on your next remodel!

Not easy to look for a good contractor. This contractor is very responsive and flexible with our needs. My wife and I are very satisfied with the quality outcome and their professional works with a timely manner. We found very good elegant, valuable and modern cabinets and stones with them. We can count on them to renovate the interior of our condo.

My wife and I recently hired Maika'i to renovate our townhome. Our overall experience was very positive, we received estimates from 8 contractors and while they were not the cheapest they were competitive with other quotes we received (we also received the "we don't want your job but if your dumb enough to pay us this we will do it") We worked with May who was always available to answer any questions we had along the way, we had some of our own materials and used some of theirs as well. The project was completed in a timely manner with very few hiccups (of course small problems came up but it was never an issue). With any project always check for quality . Overall quality was excellent there were a few things here and there, but Makai'i and their workers always took care of it right away. As other had mentioned their can be a language barrier but honestly it was never an issue between utilizing May and google translate communication was never an issue (and we lived in the house during renovations). The two main workers were amazing and any subcontractors that came were equally as professional. I would use them again and would recommend any one considering renovations to call for an estimate. Mahalo May and all the Makai'i workers.

All I can say is that Scott and his crew were absolutely phenomenal. He originally gave me a quote which was a decent price but included way more extras than all the other quotes, so I was willing to pay it. Scott made sure I had requested other quotes before making a final decision, and once I called to tell him that I had received the other quotes, he let me know that he spoke with his boss while I was getting other quotes, and before I could tell him the quotes were, he updated his which ended up being significantly better priced than all other quotes and included everything from the original quote. On to the job, they came right on time, and knocked out the demo in just a few hours. The job ended up taking an extra half day than planned but I can easily blame the company that had done work in here before, making Scott and his crew do a lot of extra stuff, which again, was awesome. Overall, floors look amazing, price was incredible, and the entire process was extremely easy.

Replaced the fluorescent lighting, elegant dimmable recessed lighting in the kitchen

We shopped around for flooring and right before getting the keys to our new home, my husband came across Maika'i flooring! The pricing was unbelievable. Almost too good to be true. I can vouch for this company and recommend their services. Scott, Rudy, & Brian were super cool to work with. Accommodating, efficient and their work is 5 star value. We had originally hired them to do our flooring. After talking with Scott my husband was able to hire their painters and electrician and plumber as well. Did laminate wood flooring, recessed lighting, and best of all my favorite part of the renovation was the interior painting.

    Kitchen counters.

We're very happy with our kitchen counter installation. The quartz was exactly the style we were looking for. Pricing for material and labor was very good--even better the material was in stock and install completed in a week--in our experience that's very rare these days.

I had a complete remodel of kitchen cabinets, countertop and flooring which extended into bathroom/laundry room. Worked with JJ and her team. JJ was there for me each morning explaining work to be done that day. She checked in at the end of each day making sure I had no complaints then preparing me for next day. Each team worked efficiently and were very experienced in their particular specialty. We particularly liked Yellow who did our flooring and did cabinets. He was the bomb. Each worker was very hard working and very accommodating to our questions or needs. Price was incredibly hard to beat. Highly recommend this company!! Thank you JJ and company.

All inclusive package for kitchen remodel. You can choose your countertop's, flooring, sink, cabinets, and hardware. You supply your own personal touches, fixtures, lighting etc... I worked with Scott Kuwahara and he was great during the entire process. And the two workers doing the installation were awesome. I can't say enough nice things about them. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The only time I saw them take a break was for lunch. They made sure everything was cleaned up after they finished each day. They literally finished the renovation in less than two weeks. The only holdup was waiting for the appliances to arrive, which finally happened this morning after waiting for over a month. The guys arrived just as the appliances did. They installed the microwave and even leveled the stove after the delivery guys installed it as they didn't make it even with the countertops. Another thing they didn't have to do but they wanted the kitchen to be perfect for me. I can assure you if I have another renovation project they will be the first ones I call.

    New floors and paint!

FIVE STAR rating to Jeff, Keith and the crew at Hawaii Home Remodel!…read more I contacted HHR at the end of December to receive an estimate. Instantly, I heard back from Keith to schedule a home visit. In the first week of January, Keith came by to do a look through. He was very kind and professional. Keith emailed my estimate within several days. Our bathroom remodel was scheduled to take 14 days, but it was completed within 9 days, which was good for our family considering we only have one bathroom. From initial contact throughout the project Jeff, HHR Supervisor, kept open communication with me every day. He kept me afloat on what they found, what needed to be done, what my options were. Tall Builders did renovation work in our condo in Waikiki and did a great job from start to finish…read more Working in a high-rise comes with a lot of constraints association approvals, limited work hours, freight elevator scheduling, protecting the hallways and they managed all of it professionally so we never got complaints from the building or neighbors. Tall Builders was responsive to calls and texts, gave us realistic timelines, and flagged issues early instead of after the fact. The quality of the finish work is excellent, pricing was fair and matched the estimate, and the unit was left clean at the end of every day. The best endorsement I can give is that we brought them back to do our second unit in the same building that decision was easy. The second-unit line is the strongest part of a review like this, since it's proof rather than just praise. Five years ago, my wife and I relocated from a large two-story house in Newtown Estates in Aiea,…read morewhich was our home for 46 years. We raised three children who are now adults and owning their own houses and raising their own families. Since we were then in our late 70s, like many retirees in our same situation, we struggled to keep up with the continued care and maintenance of a large property and decided to down-size to a smaller, one-story, house in Mililani Mauka where two of our grown children already live. Unfortunately, moving into a 20-year-old house does not come without its share of needed improvements and upgrades. However, it was the right fit for us with an existing photo-voltaic system, central air conditioning and a yard and garden of manageable size. Of immediate electrical needs were installation of additional electrical wall sockets and external security lights. Amongst the many electrical companies, and through word-of-mouth, we chose Royal Hawaiian Builders. Bronson Biven did the electrical work effectively and efficiently, so much so that we'd refer his work/company to anyone who were in need of the work that his company does. Several years later, like many other homeowners who were experiencing sharp increases in our monthly electric bill (with ours increasing from $26 to over $200). After three consecutive months at this exceedingly high rate, we contacted Bronson Biven again from Royal Hawaiian Builders for help. He did a full assessment, including researching the age and company that installed the photo-voltaic system. After a thorough evaluation of our 25-panel system, it was determined too old to set up a capability to monitor individual panel-performance using an iPhone app. Lastly, Bronson determined that our panels were in need of cleaning, which he performed as well, all in one day and at a very reasonable price. Within two months, our electric bill went back to what it was. High quality work, a fair price, and a high degree of professionalism are ingredients for a successful company.
