Being a native Cuban but raised in the US, I absolutely love the vast selection of food here . There were a few reviewers who found the waitstaff rude - here's my take on that . There's an old Cuban saying that says ..." I'm not yelling , I'm Cuban !" So please understand that what might appear as rude , might simply be cultural. This place is incredible. A 24 hour Cuban restaurant and bakery? It almost seems too good to be true but it's not! Everything we got here was delicious, the staff was so helpful and it was all really reasonably priced. Lots of dulce de leche items which I love. Food is good but employees not following COVID-19 safety and health procedures whoever is in the shake station and drive-true without mask. Safety is responsibility of everybody. This place is open and there is many people inside business owners don't have control about the 6 feet distance and health safety control. Stopped in here for lunch one day after a recommendation from a close friend and man was I pleased. I felt like I was back in a Miami in the Latin food Capitol of the US.. I found Maikel's to be super clean and with a very helpful staff. Now if you don't speak Spanish don't get frustrated... be patient and work through placing your order in Spanglish and your taste buds will thank you. The best thing about my last relationship with my ex was being introduced to Maikel's Kitchen. I left her for this establishment. You feel like there's a party occurring in your mouth with all that flava all over your taste buds. It's my favorite Latino restaurant in town. Everyone is following Covid's safety guidelines and wearing masks. I love the assembly line method. I'm pretty sure they go by the pound of the food there slabbing on your styrofoam. If you don't speak Spanish, stay away from this place. I ordered a media Nocho, and it was horrible. The absolute worst one I've ever had since living in Tampa for 30 years. This place should take lessons off of Arco Iris and West Tampa sandwich shop on how to treat customers read more

I've been here numerous times . What kept me coming was the endless options of rices and meats . How could I go wrong . Today in particular I decided to go with the black rice and beans with fried yuca accompanied by a lamb shank . As soon as I bit into the lamb shank i could tell by the taste is was out for to long or old . At that moment I started to think , what happens to all the food at the end of the day ? Does it get thrown out ? Reused ? I ask to swap out the meat and the cashier said no . As long as your buying a meat/rice selection that's in high demand you won't run into any problems. read more

This review was for a visit on 4/14/2021. My father and I had a good experience here in Maikel's kitchen in Tampa. This was our first experience with Cuban cuisine. You cannot beat the portions they give you. SO. MUCH. RICE AND MEAT. The side order of black beans was pretty good too. They serve you cafeteria style, so you can look at what you are getting. I can understand some spanish but I cannot speak it, but I didn't have any trouble pointing to what I wanted. The prices are up to date per current photos at the time of this visit, so if you're trying to feed your family, this would be a good spot. They also have cuban pastries and stuff so if you like that kind of thing, go for it! I would go back here again if I am in the area! read more

The food here is pretty okay at best, if you know anything about Cuban food you know this is not top notch in freshness or quality. The service is atrocious, long waits inside and through the drive through. Only to pull up to a shut window where after a 10 min wait it's an open and shut to give payment and someone deadpan stares and gives you your meal after another 10 min. The food is just amazing. Wildly flavorful and fresh. It's cafeteria style and it does get hectic in there. You order your food at the front of the line not by the cash register. If you love yellow rice filled with pork chunks this is the place for you. I get the pork rice every single time and it's as traditional as I can find in Florida excluding Miami of course. The roast beef in sauce the oxtail the pigs feet the barbecue chicken are all made to perfection and I get those every time.A large container of food filled and popping to the brim is only a few dollars. I travel extensively and enjoy Cuban food. That said I usually order from Uber and unfortunately weather here in Tampa or in FT. Myers they get the order wrong. I called the FT. Myers location and they apologized and informed me it's a language thing. read more

Id never heard of this restaurant but it is right in front of our hotel and my husband LOVES Cuban sandwiches, so of course we had to try. The idea of a drive-thru Cuban sandwich also intrigued him. The food was amazing. Sandwiches were rather large with good portions of meat. We ordered melon de agua (watermelon juice) on a whim and It was easily our favorite part of the meal! It tastes just like biting into a watermelon - so refreshing! We will be going back every day that we are in Tampa just to get a drink! All staff spoke Spanish, which was another pleasant surprise for us as a half Puerto Rican family. Wish I had caught the staffs names so I could give them a personalized shout out, but they were all fantastic. 10/10 experience read more

First time trying Maikel's kitchen and definitely my last one! What a horrible customer service , the women serving the food are rude , I asked for one combo and then decided to get another one and the señora said : " you are making me walk all the way to the rice section again to get you another combo?? You should have told me you were getting two combos !! " . I was speechless , but I killed her with kindness and I replied " well now I feel really bad for making you walk and work so hard" anyways , the food is sooo tasteless here and cold very cold , so please save your time and go to la Teresita restaurant ! . read more

They advertise natural juices and they are not. It's actually a bottled syrup they use. My stomach is sensitive to added sugars in syrups and so seeing this I assumed it was natural. I was pissed leaving this place. read more

She then showed me where to look for smoothies, they had a lot of unique choices that looked delicious. The smoothie I got included banana, pineapple, avocado, and mango. After I cashed out for my large smoothie, I wave goodbye to the wonderful owner. When I left the building, I decided to take a sip, I stopped looked at the drink and said Damn! This is good! I almost walked back in to tell her how good it was, I will definitely be back soon! :)

The prep station was clean and the menu was easy to read even though I already knew what I wanted. I did notice that they're releasing new food items like chicken wraps and from the picture they looks delicious so I'll have to come back and try those once they release. Now the girl up front was super sweet and full of energy when I was ordering. I loved that and she also helped make the bowls as well and I didn't have to wait long till they were ready. At the same time, though, there's really cute decorations but it's few and far between- a lot of the store is still pretty bare. But it looks like they host some workout classes there as well which might be why, and is super cool. The teas were fantastic- just the right amount of fruity pucker and boy do they give you a pick-me-up if you need a little energy boost to get you through the day, no joke! And the shakes- if you at all enjoy ice cream milkshakes (and I mean, who doesn't??) these are a must try. Amazing. The workers were just so sweet, the genuinely kind type of people. They said that they also make healthy pizzas, churros, and waffles, and I'm definitely interested in coming back to try some of those. Highly rec!!

A quien pueda interesar mi humilde opinión: El peor lugar de comida cubana en toda Tampa, no solo la calidad de la comida también por el trato de sus empleadas, en especial la cajera de la cafetería, sin ética profesional ni ella ni los dueños, dos amigas trabajaron allí por una semana y lo tuvieron que dejar por la forma grosera y excesiva con la que esa cajera trata a sus compañeras de trabajo. El supuesto dueño "Maikel" y su hermana la que esta al frente de ese negocio son unos incompetentes que ni siquiera exigen respeto para sus trabajadores. En fin que puedes esperar de un lugar donde el dueño no tiene palabra ni credibilidad porque nada de lo que dice lo cumple, la comida no es buena, el servicio a los clientes tampoco y mucho menos puedes trabajar ahí.
