This place is incredible. A 24 hour Cuban restaurant and bakery? It almost seems too good to be true but it's not! Everything we got here was delicious, the staff was so helpful and it was all really reasonably priced. Lots of dulce de leche items which I love. Stopped in here for lunch one day after a recommendation from a close friend and man was I pleased. I felt like I was back in a Miami in the Latin food Capitol of the US.. I found Maikel's to be super clean and with a very helpful staff. Now if you don't speak Spanish don't get frustrated... be patient and work through placing your order in Spanglish and your taste buds will thank you. The best thing about my last relationship with my ex was being introduced to Maikel's Kitchen. I left her for this establishment. You feel like there's a party occurring in your mouth with all that flava all over your taste buds. It's my favorite Latino restaurant in town. Everyone is following Covid's safety guidelines and wearing masks. I love the assembly line method. I'm pretty sure they go by the pound of the food there slabbing on your styrofoam. You cannot beat the portions they give you. SO. MUCH. RICE AND MEAT. The side order of black beans was pretty good too. They serve you cafeteria style, so you can look at what you are getting. I can understand some spanish but I cannot speak it, but I didn't have any trouble pointing to what I wanted. The prices are up to date per current photos at the time of this visit, so if you're trying to feed your family, this would be a good spot. Id never heard of this restaurant but it is right in front of our hotel and my husband LOVES Cuban sandwiches, so of course we had to try. The idea of a drive-thru Cuban sandwich also intrigued him. The food was amazing. Sandwiches were rather large with good portions of meat. We ordered melon de agua (watermelon juice) on a whim and It was easily our favorite part of the meal! It tastes just like biting into a watermelon - so refreshing! We will be going back every day that we are in Tampa just to get a drink! All staff spoke Spanish, which was another pleasant surprise for us as a half Puerto Rican family. I was just not overly impressed by this food establishment. Today's world has a lot of multicultural individuals. So I did not expect to visit a Latin place and find that no one could take my order in English. They did not have one bilingual individual working. Since I wanted to give an opinion that was fair I visited twice. First on Feb 18th. My first encounter ordering was far more difficult than it should be. There was a gentleman who could understand my simple order. Did not order far off the menu understanding the difficulty that I was having. I ordered the fried pork--which I would have expected to have some crispy edges. The plantains were sweet and cooked appropriately. The rice and beans lacked flavor and were oversalted. My second, visit I elected to have the Cuban sandwich. Which I was looked at displeasing when I asked to omit the mustard. The sandwich which stated fried was hot pressed. Shredded pork some moist and some dried, ham, few scattered pickles and mayo. I also ordered the Strawberry shake thinking that since strawberries were in season this would be great.
