My boyfriend and I took the kids to Main Event twice recently. The first time we were turned away at the door because a large automobile corporation has rented the place out for their employees' Christmas party. Can't hate on Main Event for that--although I am a little envious of the employees at the automobile corporation. I only mention the first time so that you can understand the excitement and anticipation that was built up for my three young kids about going to the closest thing we have to an amusement park around here. We arrived hungry and decided to sit in the dining area immediately when we arrived. After waiting for about 15 minutes I started looking around and saw the walk up counter. I assumed I was supposed to go order there. I went up to the walk up counter and gave my order. I was told I had to sit back down and wait for a server. I asked, "how long will that be? We've already been here about 15 minutes". Please picture that at about this point, my son with ADHD and his two sisters are starving and starting to get real bored, real fast. We waited another 10 minutes before being able to get the attention of ANY employees. I finally flagged a young lady over, asked if we could get service. She said, "I'll get someone right over." When we saw her another 10 minutes later, we let her know we still haven't had any service. (We let another random employee walking by know we were looking for a server as well). So after about 30 minutes we finally had a nice young man come up to the table, apologize, take our order and let us know he was just getting on the clock, he'd take care of us and he was sorry there was any issue. Our food came out, it was delicious. (Seriously, we should have ordered more Thai wings they were so good.) Our drinks were refilled. Our bellies were full and then we sat. And sat. And sat. And waited. And waited. And waited for the check. At some point someone who looked like he might be a manager came over and asked how we were doing. I explained that we weren't really happy with the service, we had waited over 30 minutes, been told I could not order at the counter, asked 2 different people for a server, etc. His response was, (and I'm not kidding) "Yeah, Main Event has really weird rules about where you can order." That was it. No "Sorry we suck at service." or "Oh wow! Let me comp your drink." or "Sorry to hear this, here's a $5 play coupon for your trouble." or any sort of acknowledgement that they had completely failed in the service department. Will we come back? Of course. Will we plan to eat there again? Only because the wings were delicious and the pizza's cheese strung across the table. read more

Hey! What a cool place to stumble upon! Getting out of dinner, we saw this huge building next door, and looking it up I saw all kinds of fun stuff. So our group decided to go check it out (and I was particularly hoping they had a DDR machine in there). And it was awesome!! Games, bowling, bars, simple food, more games, mini-golf, and a climbing wall! Prices seemed pretty reasonable, though we mostly stuck to arcade stuff and some drinks. The place was BUSY on a Saturday night, it already being after 10pm, so it really looked like a fun spot to be. Shame that I live about an hour out, I'd LOVE to have something like this a lot closer to me. Oh, and the 4 stars instead of 5? Well, they had that DDR machine, but some of the foot pads weren't working properly. I suppose we can't have it all, sometimes ;-) read more

OK did the mini golf, it was worth every penny, but that was because it was free .... I wouldn't pay to play here .... back at the rock gym, Little Man went through some of the expert walls, ($9.20 for an hour including tax) little disappointed as they didn't have the correct size shoe for him, but since there were a few birthday parties going on so we actually got a few extra minutes. Welp, basically it's a huge building with pretty much everything you can imagine. I was surprised at how large the rock climbing area happened to be. It had bouldering and looooots of top rope stuff as well. I did the mini golf with some friends and it ended up being pretty entertaining. It's lit with black lights so it has this cosmic glowy feel to it. Didn't get a chance to check out anything else so I'll have to put it on my list to check out though I'm not sure on pricing given that I went during a $5 per event special (each activity is an 'event' and they give you a wristband) No problem with parking or anything as the lot was large. read more

Absolutely great New years eve party our family had an amazing time, Not only was the staff at it's best but the whole event was being run like a well oiled machine by management, Our server was fantastic not only did Elizabeth make our experience feel like we were out on date night but provided excellent service to our children seated at the next table. I had a very stressful party at the main event. I had about 20 kids and 22 adults invited and I ordered 3 onion ring buckets and was given 3 single portion onion rings. Do you think 22 adults can eat from 3 single portions? After complaining the manager came by and said he is going to void the 3 single portions and charge me for 2 buckets (He got me one order of bucket) and tried to explain to me that I got more onion rings over all. Are you kidding me, most of my guest did not get what I ordered. Ideally you should have not charged for the onion rings order, I spent $650 on the party and your manager is telling me that I got more onion rings over all. I think he was poor in math, I had ordered 3 order not 2. Later on when the arcade game cards were distributed to the kids all the arcade game cards were never charged with money, all were blank, every single one. I had to keep running around to catch hold of a manager to charge the cards as and when kids brought to my notice about the blunder. I will never use main event for a birthday party and also suggest everyone I know not to have a party at main event. read more

This review is for the rock climbing area. For the price, you can't beat Main Event. $7 and your own gear gets you a day pass. However, the gym is geared more towards little kids and you often have to battle for ropes and deal with the sweat they leave all over the rocks. The organization of the ratings in the gym is a little less than perfect. The routes are ordered by difficulty on the wall, and there are a decent number of beginner climbs (5.8-5.9), which is what I climb. The only problem is that they are all on 3 or 4 ropes and most of them with large-ish overhangs. The center area is pretty straight up, but only have 5.11 on them, despite pretty spare walls and room for other routes. It seems like if they scattered the ratings around the gym, the climbers within a specific ability level would get more variety in their experience. Finally, the routes are a little lame. There are rarely any good rests and the balance is often weird so I end up being really inefficient with my climbs. I know I'm not a great climber, but I would prefer routes that people with weak arms can actually do. read more

For the first time I celebrated New Year's Eve without getting drunk somewhere and in a place like this. Not bad, I enjoy it plus I'm getting too old to be "getting drunk." I enjoy drinking at home. Anyways, I purchased the NYE tickets which was a pretty good deal. $30 per adult and $25 per child with unlimited 2 hour games and some bowling. Besides being there on NYE, I will definitely be going here again. They have a cool bowling alley, a good amount of pool tables across from there as well as a full service bar nearby. Further in the building, there are games, Laser tag, a mini quick bite restaurant, miniature golf and another bar. It's a mini version of D&B with a bigger bowling alley. Great with family or a good date place. Play pool and have some drinks. We will be coming here again for sure. read more

I can't say much for the restaurant, as I don't think I'd really every eat a bowling alley. They have a nice I'll be it expensive full bar. Its a playground for adults really. This is one of the coolest bowling alleys/fun centers I have ever been to. It rivals or surpasses the best in Southern California. I do have a few gripes. A lot of the arcade games are really old/broken. The employees are very slow about helping you reset the bowling lanes and so on. Also, they really need to re-felt their pool tables. They're looking pretty used up. If they were nicer I'd be there much more often! read more

Not a place to hang unless you don't mind dealing with screaming children running around, or you're in your early twenties and have your daddy's credit card. some of the bartenders are straight up rude as well. Main Event is a great place to go to shoot pool, play shuffleboard, and drink beer in a smoke-free environment. I usually go there on Monday nights to play Hold Em' and drink beer... the staff is always friendly. The bartenders know me by name, which may not be a good thing after all... They have really good deals if you get there early. It's like $12 and you can do golf, rock climbing. laser tag. Drop the kids off and they are busy for hours. Our kids last two birthday parties have been here. They have good birthday group rates. The bowling is fun also, and they have a bar with some pool tables. It really is a fun place to hang out. It's not just for kids either. The adults stayed for the birthday parties, and we had a good time in the bar. Monday Nights you pay 10 Dollars for unlimited use of the facilities. I am 24, and went with several friends who are a bit older and we had a blast. We bowled a few rounds and enjoyed 2 dollar drafts. The best part of the night was playing a 20 minute round of laser tag with people of all ages. I was actually surprised that the arena was well built and not ghetto like you might find in other arcade type places. I would have won the entire thing if not for the really ghetto kid who put his vest on the floor and never got shot! We finished the night off with more cheap drinks and free pool and shuffleboard. The place is crawling with 15-18 year olds but they mind their own business. I had a great time with my friends and it was a refreshing change of pace from going to a typical bar or karaoke type spot. Very disappointed. Took my two kids to play mini golf, paid almost $40 for the four of us only to stand around waiting in line for people to finish playing. There was a massive amount of people so we felt rushed to finish every hole. Several groups just walked out, we ended up leaving early as well. The management in here must have changed, the service is definitely not the same. While standing in line we were practically run over by an employee running through the line instead of going around. There were 5 employees behind the bar. We waited at the bar at least 5 minutes to be served, at least acknowledged. We were the only two people at the bar besides the employees who were gathered together talking! There was no toilet paper in the men's bathroom-checked every stall for a shred of paper. We were not spoken to in a friendly way by any employee we asked for help. We were actually made to feel stupid by one employee who had given a poor explanation for our question in the first place. This place is A-OK. We went on a Monday night (all you can play, except the video games, for $10 + bowling shoe rental). You are limited to one hour on the bowling. Then you have to go back on the wait list. Problem we had, there was a wait list for the laser tag too, which was fine. It's just they kept paging us too soon and I'd have to go back to the other side and ask to be paged at a later time. This kept happening. The putt putt was kinda cool, it was glow in the dark. We just ended up spending way more than we planned (beers, and the kids wanted to play the games which were not worth the price). On the plus side, there was beer and the kids had fun! I came to this Main Event for a dinner meetup and wasn't impressed with the service. I ordered a pizza and our server forgot my order. Not only did we follow up multiple times, but her shift ended and she peaced out and gave me the bill before I even got my food. I paid for the food because she said it would be out in a bit, but never got the pizza. Luckily the manager refunded the money the pizza, but wasn't able to refund my tip. I really wanted to hate this place. Crowds of children are not my idea of fun, so I wasn't sure what to expect when we came here for a friend's birthday. The food was terrible, but I'll admit to being a bit of a food snob. Greasy, fried and what you expect from food at a place like this, I guess. Our friends were really into laser tag and that's all we did. I have to say, I've only played laser tag one other time and this place blew it away. The course is fun, and I found myself losing track of time as I snuck around trying to shoot the other team. I did happen upon the rock climbing room and really, really, really wished I had more time so I coud try it out. The space is ENORMOUS! Tons of space and different levels of climbs, it looked like a lot of fun. The price didn't seem that bad either considering you got rental shoes. It is a good place for all around family fun. The costs for food and drink may be more than you prefer, but you are paying for the nice convenience of it all in one place. The times I have been here, the staff has always been good and the garlic fries are probably some of my best guilty pleasure food when bowling. Games are fun with the family and the prizes are really not worth the amount of tickets you need to win, but that's where the money is made you could say. Came bowling here on a Wednesday night. I think the prices are pretty reasonable ($30/lane/hr) with $3.50 for shoes. They're easy bowling shoes with velcro and weren't too used looking. There were plenty of balls and a good amount of seating space. Billiards seemed like it would have been fun too. My gripe is really with the service. For the hour we were here our 'server' came over to us once and only after 25 minutes of already being there. We gave up and instead just started walking over to the bar to order drinks. The bartenders there were cool and pretty fast, so they clearly weren't the issue here... For the one round of drinks we did manage to order through the 'server' she never came back to give us our receipt, even after our hour on the lane was already up. We had to track down another employee to find her. Another thing that bothered me was that the menus at the tables were sticky and disgusting, they probably hadn't been wiped down in weeks...gross. Is it really that hard?! So the cleanliness is suspect and the service sucks but the bowling was a lot of fun and we had a great time! This place is fun every once in a while. I would like to give it a higher rating, but there are some minor issues that keep this place from earning a better score. 1. The dart boards need to be repaired or replaced. The darts are mostly broken and half of the time the board doesn't register the throw. 2. Bowling here can be fun, but don't play a competitive game. The problem is that they make you pay by the hour, and you have to know how many hours you want to play up front. That all seems fine and good until you are in the middle of a game and the timer is running out. I was here with my brother-in-law and this happened to us. It said we had 5 minutes left and we were going to take longer than 5 minutes to finish. I offered to pay more to finish the game and the answer was no. They had already rented our lane to the next hourly customer. We left in the middle of the 9th frame and I was winning...didn't count. It seems to me there should be an override to allow the 2 extra minutes we needed to complete our game. For free, for a charge, whatever. Terrible experience. I know you don't go to Main Event for a spectacular dining experience but if your going to serve food the least you can do is try to simulate hospitality. We probably waited an hour for all the food to come out. Everything came out haphazardly: appetizer before food, not one order reached the table in the way it was ordered. I genuinely wonder if our server actually wrote down what we said or if he just played order roulette when he got to the computer. Regardless it's a Friday night so maybe the guy was overwhelmed, we did have a large party, and honestly the dining experience isn't really what brought me here today..... Jesse the manager on duty was absolutely the worst. He was so unprofessional and unapologetic. How does a 10 yr old's Birthday Pool Party get rained out in July, in Texas? No plan B there. So, last minute, we resorted to the Monday night deal. WOW!! $10 each!! You can't beat that. I so wish we had skipped the pool idea and went straight for the Main Event. This was my first time at Main Event, but we will definitely be back soon. Sure, lots of kids, duh, it's a play place for all ages! We brought 10 of them, plus 6 adult kids! We ate, loved the large sampler appetizer plate, we played, loved all the games, we bowled, the kids played lazer tag, we all golfed, the kids climbed. We even enjoyed a few drinks from the bar. Each time we ordered, the staff made a point to let us know if there was a special, or a way to save a little. Now, that's outstanding service. The entire establishment was extremely clean. I don't know how they do it! I was very impressed! And to top that, the Manager, Jimmy, was actually out on the floor, meeting customers and answering questions! He patiently answered all our questions, despite the fact he was being pulled in 40 different directions. That guy has his work cut out for him. Great job!! Jimmy and his Crew really saved the day!! I had not been to Main Event in 6 years. I was sadly reminded why. We walked in and realized we were not going to pay these prices, so we opted to do glow in the dark miniature golf ONLY. After standing in a long line to pay, I was then told at the counter that I could pay in the back at the miniature golf desk since we weren't buying anything else. I got back to that desk and the person who was working behind the cash register said a price higher than the sign when we walked in. She had no reasoning to why the price said $6 up front and now she was charging me $8 per person. Trust me, I looked and there was no peak or off peak price listed at the entrance like they do for bowling. I didn't want to argue about it due to the little ones. Once inside, it was just as it looked in 2008. They did add these spinner options on holes which only bottlenecked the flow of traffic even more. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

When I first heard about Main event in Austin I really got my hopes up and thought it would be so fun and worth the money. Unfortunately I got my hopes up too high. I went with my husband and some friends. When we got there it was 3 hour wait for bowling due to it being the weekend. While we waited the first thing we did was laser tag and I don't even know how the lady who runs the laser tag is still working there; she was the most rudest person to us, telling us not to touch the equipment 5 minutes after she let us in the room. If she didn't want anyone to touch anything she should have told us before she let us in. She didn't even tell us where to go or where to stand. After laser tag it was about 3 hours from when we got there so we went to follow up on the bowling and come to find out it was ready for us but no one ever texted us as we were told. While we were bowling we never got served or asked if we wanted anything to eat. No one ever came to us despite searching for a waiter. 10 minutes left into our game someone came and asked us if we wanted to order something; definitely too late for that. This could be such an amazing experience for customers unfortunately it is very unorganized. EVO entertainment is the way to go if you want better service for your money that you're paying. read more

This place is ridiculous. On a vacation and it was raining so we decided to stop in. We paid for 4 full passes for the day. Go to the bar to order a drink. I had a paper copy (leagal) of my driver's license that just got me through the tsa, but they wouldn't serve me. I am a 48 year old man with my 20 year old son and they wouldn't serve me a drink. Ruined our entire day. The management is ridiculous and unreasonable. I refused to even stay. Do not go here! On top of that it was dirty and half of the things didn't work. Here is my feedback about the Rock climbing center and I am a member: 1. There is no fixed time when the gym opens. I need to call everyday and check. 2. I need to call every day to reserve time for that day. 3. The employees cant give me a direct number to the gym. Upon asking they told me to talk to the manager of the place. Really? You work there everyday and dont know the direct number? The employees are really friendly, but they have no process in place which makes it really painful for customers. read more

Our nine year old girl had a fabulous birthday party at Main Event. I was really impressed by the value for the money. Three activities, game play, drinks, pizza, decorations, balloons, and a party chaperone we're all included for a very reasonable price. Jasmine, our chaperone, was excellent and very attentive. Great place! Bowling, food, games, pool and drinks! This is also a great spot for B'day's. There is lazer tag, rock climbing! I have been here for many birthday parties. The staff is friendly and helpful. My husband proposed to me at this Main event 3 years ago. The staff were awesome at getting everything together for the special night. They even offered to Overnight a CD that was made to the main office to get it all ready for his proposal on the bowling screen. It made for a very special nite. We go here often for bowling with friends and family. I'd def recommend it!! read more

There's nothing wrong with this place in theory. It offers a little bit of everything, including bowling, pool tables, miniature golf, laser tag, rock climbing, food, adult beverages, and those arcade games that you play for "tickets" which you then trade in for prizes. This review is not all inclusive of everything here; maybe the rock climbing is great, and bowling is bowling you can't really screw that up. What you can screw up, is having many of your arcade games be broken, and yet still have them on and essentially ripping people off, mostly kids for that matter. It's unacceptable really. The very first game I played debited money from my play card but didn't activate the game. I finally found somebody to tell and they gave me a refund but interestingly enough they didn't care to test the broken game or turn it off so it wouldn't rip anyone else off. Maybe it's because the games are pretty much a rip off anyways so nobody blinks twice when a game that lasts 5 seconds when working normally just doesn't work at alI. I found 2 other games that were broken in the short time I was here; basically a third of the games I tried were broken but taking money. One just kept adding credits but wouldn't start no matter what you did. The last one I tried was utterly over the top: a wheel of fortune game where you try to press the button when a rotating light is on the "big spin" light. I played it several times and it worked just fine until I actually stopped the light on the "big spin", which was then supposed to spin another wheel which offered bonus ticket prizes. The wheel began to spin and kept spinning, and spinning. Then I noticed the little rubber pointer which is supposed to slow the wheel down and eventually point to whichever prize it stopped on was bent 90 degrees to the side. Yep, another broken game, and this time it cost me the big bonus tickets I was supposed to get for being skillful or lucky. I'm thinking the poor maintenance is just par for the course here. The place is not hurting for business so they probably don't give a rip. It was extremely crowded on Saturday afternoon. My family and I had to just leave in frustration because our experience was so poor. Maybe I can sell these game cards online because even though they were a gift it's just not worth the hassle to use them. read more

HORRIBLE. This place is run down. POOL TABLES - they have 12. All 12 are in the worst shape that I have ever seen a table in. Surfaces covered in holes - not just one or two, but everywhere, on every table. All cues have to be replaced. By far the worst equipment that I have seen anywhere. The employee's response - "Yea, they don't give us the best equipment" ARCADE - Some machines don't work at all. Others look like they work, but then don't give prizes. I saw at least 5 BIRTHDAY PARTIES (4 & 5 year olds) - Completely disorganized. They rounded up the kids and fed them pizza FIRST. The kids see all the flashing lights and games and you are telling them "no, wait, eat first"... Yea, right. Then they take them to the dark miniature golf course, which the kids couldn't care less about. They want to go play arcade games. But no, that has to wait till later. And when the kids do get to go running around, it is after eating pizza, so not exactly a good combo. I have been to multiple places like this in various Cities/States and this is by far the worst. This place is super fun! I'm from California and this place was a big welcoming party for those who don't know what to do around here. The staff is super friendly, sweet, funny and patient... Although I was very sad when my group and I was having a hard time breaking down the split check. The girl who was ringing us up kept rolling her eyes, huffing, slamming the register in frustration and just being straight up rude. Thankfully a young gentleman came and helped us instead. Mini-Golf is run down, black light course is poorly lit and the course is just hard to play if you're wanting a more competitive outing. Well today sadly did not go well here. We came for bowling, lunch and some arcade time with a card my husband got here last weekend. The bowling lane we got stopped working 4 times the 3rd time it took 15-20 mins to get somebody to help us. The lane next to us had the same problem and they just left because they saw how much trouble we had. Its also strange that you can order everything at the little tablets but only half the menu can be ordered at the actual food area so you wait in line to be sent back to your seat to order. My husband had a company party the weekend before and everybody got game cards. He was told he could take the card and use it another time. There was nothing on the card today he spoke to three people and nobody could or would help us. The girl at the prize area kept swipping it like we were idiots even though we explained to her twice what was going on. She shrugged and said it expired. We apparently had less then 7 days to use the card but he was just told yea bring it back. The games also suck and take credits without letting the kids play. When we got my kids their prizes the girl clearly remembered me and just mumbled at me the whole time and was pretty blah and rude. Could not tell if she is just a nornal annoying teen or what. This is usually the place we go when we can't think of anything else to do and we've overplayed the 'Dinner & a Movie' card. But this place has things to do for a decent Saturday night out. Not a bad spot for a second or third date. Shows you're fun. Get her to play some video games, pool, bowling. Maybe even liquored up. Maybe. They have a full bar which I always take advantage of. Service is good if you look over 25 or a regular, else it takes forever to get a drink. That's why I go ahead and order the next 2 rounds. I don't see may kids there, which is good. Bowled here now several weeks in a league. Worst lanes in Austin. Pins don't reset well sometimes falling after reset, balls get stuck, resets total pin rack after one role and this happened four or five times a game. Wouldn't even bowl there recreationally. I quit the league because it became so frustrating. Horrible experience. read more
