There are several arcade bars you could pop into in the ATX and surrounding areas. But I have to say the food at Pixel Palace really sets this place apart. It's SO good. The fries, the pretzels, even the tortilla chips in their chips and salsa side are exceptional. The bartender here was so nice. She stayed on top of our orders and kept our drinks full. Get yourself a cocktail as they have developed some fun stuff for their menu. The palace is smaller than say a Dave and Busters or Austins, but the vibes are fantastic. It's dark like a grimy vintage arcade would be, but it's clean and not sticky everywhere. Some of the machines I wanted to play were out of order which was obviously a bummer, but there were still a ton of options for fun including Pokemon pinball. We visited with our family and found the place very cool. They have vintage video games, pinball machines, and crane and grab machines. The food was good and the service was also good. Our Granddaughter loved it. Compared to other choices, the night was fairly inexpensive. They also keep kids in check. There weren't a ton of kids running around. Super fun retro "barcade" in round rock! All the classics, including my favorite Galaga. We had a large party of 20, service was a little slow but friendly. The food is typical bar food but they had a variety of wing options that included mild, spicy and ranch spicy. Local beers on draft which was cool too. We've been here about six times. Sadly some of the games are showing their age, just like me. It would be better if they had more working games but I realize that might be impossible in today's age, far removed from 1985. The food is great and is truly nostalgic. I never thought we'd pay for bagel bites for our grandchildren at a bar but here we are. The bar menu is also great, with the Pixel Punch my fav. As well as the corn dog. The only complaint I have is that the clientele can get a bit rough after 6pm. I keep a close eye on my granddaughter but it is what it is. It is not entirely for kids as it is a bar. But before 7 it is pretty fun to watch them pay guitar hero. The kids get kicked out at 8, and maybe someday we will stay past that time. Overall the work and effort to make this into a retro bar gets its five stars. Eclectic people and a great bar with pub food and 1980s games is a great combo. Just watch your kids. I'm not an arcade person, but a clean arcade with decent food gets five stars in my opinion! After church a few weeks ago my husband took me "somewhere he'd been wanting to check out." He likes to surprise me, so I had no time to research ahead of time. He asked what I wanted for lunch - arcade food, or brunch food from next door. I thought bruch food sounded safer, so we ate at that other restaurant, then went to the arcade. When I got inside and looked at the menu, I realized I would have been satisfied by their food as well. Since we were in "treat ourselves" mode, I ordered a brownie sundae and kraft mac and cheese here at the arcade. They serve kraft mac here a la carte for the nostalgia factor, which is really clever! They also apparently serve sugary cereal, which I don't eat anymore, but I love how they commit to the nostalgic theme! The sundae was pretty good, but the brownie would not have been amazing without ice cream. I think restaurant kraft mac is better than the box stuff, and I used to have a habit of ordering kids' meals to get it. It was exactly as expected, but I think I'm over my kraft mac cravings (or maybe I was full from brunch.) He ordered a hot dog as something little to follow up on our brunch. Their menu called it a "Black Angus Dog." Our server was new, and was quite confused by the order. We realized you should never order a "Black Angus Dog" in a noisy arcade, because it might sound like something much worse! It was funny how she rolled with it and tried to act like what she heard was normal. As far as noise, it wasn't obnoxiously loud, but there was the general hum of activity and 80s - 00s music videos playing on a big screen on one wall. He hurried off to look around while I waited for food at the bar, then I realized it was ok to leave my stuff at the bar and explore and play games while we waited for our food. I tried Pac Man a few times and kinda got the hang of it. He enjoyed playing games from his childhood and looking at their display of 80s memorabilia. 5 stars for the games! The arcade games are pretty awesome with a lot of vintage games to choose from and play. They also have a pretty cool soundtrack playing along with music videos. The games are affordable, .25 each game so $10 goes a really long way! 2 stars for the food! Both times I've visited I've regretted ordering food. I tried their chicken wings (lemon pepper and spicy ranch) both of them lacked flavor although their ranch dipping sauce was pretty good. We also ordered their arcade pizza, half pepperoni and combination and the crust was warm but the toppings were barely lukewarm. They had cooked it barely enough for the cheese to melt. SO MUCH FUN!!! This is definitely a new favorite! I can tell by how crowded it is, that it's a new favorite for a lot of people in the area. Based on how busy it can get, I'd definitely recommend going early on a random day of the week for the best service and game selection. Honestly, when my wife and I walked in, we had 2 burgers, both were $17, almost with the fries, and they were frozen patties. This is a new bar and arcade opening this month, and while I didn't eat or drink this trip and can't comment on that part (except the drinks menu looks pricey), I got to check out the arcade part. Hilariously I planned to stay for less than an hour and somehow stayed 5 hours, so I guess that's a good sign. The location seems a bit out of the way but easy to get to behind the Circle K on the corner of the 45 toll road and A.W. Grimes. It's new construction but has a purposely grunge 80s aesthetic with plenty of faux neon and retro decor. The center is a bar with a lighted countertop that has a collection of arcade tokens of years gone by embedded under plastic which makes for interesting viewing to see the names you recognize. And above the bar are plenty of TVs. To the side of the bar are some long tables and seating, but most of the rest of the space is taken up by dozens and dozens of arcade machines, all of which seem to have been from the previous century. There are lots of classics and plenty I've never seen before, so there's something for everyone. And most appear to be 25¢, which is a great deal compared to most modern arcades. There are also a few pinball machines and skee ball lanes, but the majority is certainly the video game cabinets. Since these are vintage machines more than a dozen weren't operating at all, and most have some wear and tear and there were some faulty parts on a few that messed up a game or two in progress, but there are dozens and dozens more available to play so that shouldn't be too big a problem. An employee was working on a few while I was there so I'm sure those will be functioning soon and others will go down from time to time as you'd expect from any arcade. Other interesting parts included The Den, which is a corner with a couch for playing vintage console games on an old TV, and my favorite was the tiny museum that was just a couple lighted display cases of 1980s pop culture like New Coke, Back to the Future shoes, classic toys, and everything in between, each of which is sure to spark some memory or laugh. There are plenty of drawbacks like the very loud music, the divey feel, the expensive drinks, and the unreliable games, so don't expect anything too fancy, but it's a fun place to check out for yourself. read more

I really loved this place. We rarely have a night out but when my mom came into town for Christmas we went to check this place out. We've been following the story on tiktok so I was pumped. We knew kids were allowed till 8 pm but we didn't want to be the only ones who show up with small kids, and we knew they wouldnt probably have kid games but at least we knew we could bring them if we really wanted to and maybe take turns going to play a game or 2. We sat at the bar and we had a great conversation with someone who turned out to be a manager. Our bartender was super knowledgeable and made some crazy delicious drinks, including my margarita made with Lalo tequila. I know mexican restaurants that don't carry Lalo. . . so color me impressed - and thirsty bc that was balanced and delicious. The fried pickles we ordered em spicy. a little on the salty side but I've had worse... All in all, they had some games I havent played since my shakey's san angelo days like out run, and paperboy... My husband and I discovered this place by accident, originally wanting to go to Cidercade in South Austin after having dinner in Cedar Park but not willing to make the 30-min drive, and found Pixel Palace through Google Maps instead. At the bar, the cocktail names are all references to retro arcade games. (Be mindful of the ingredients list, since most lean a bit sweeter than expected.) They also offer comfort junk food snacks from childhood like hot pockets, bagel bites, pop tarts, slush puppies, etc. As a Filipino, I was surprised and proud to see they had LUMPIA on the appetizer menu! As far as games go, they have a good variety of options for everyone. Many are free, and others only require 1-2 tokens to play. You've definitely get your bang for your buck here. So I used to love this place. Malort, arcades, chill, amazing first date idea. Loved it. However when I come in an hour and a half before close and ask for the special you're touting(Girl Scout cookie flight), and your bartender(Mikayla from what I heard of her name) verbatim tells me "Don't do this to me" and tells me I need to "tip accordingly"(which I've done, 25-30% each time) after asking the community to come help out because you missed a few days because of the freeze, that's enough to get me to want to not come back. However what will get me to not come back is telling your friends and the rest of the bar that you want to kill youself instead of making the shots and then getting annoyed that all of a sudden I don't want the shots that were such a pain. I can get over the broken nba jam, I can get over the crowds, I get if it's 20 till closing, but don't ask for support if you don't want the business. Downtown round rock is 6 minutes down the street and im happy to give them my business instead. Edit: The owner Zane reached out extremely quickly and took my concerns and experience very seriously and was super kind, so raising the score a bit off of that alone. I came here opening week with my family and a friend and we really enjoyed our visit here. It was really busy and the staff did a great job serving drinks and food despite how full the place was. They have a variety of old school arcade games, pinball machines, and my 5 year old's favorite - skee ball. They also have a great selection of cocktails, craft beers, and even had some great non alcoholic beer. For food we all ordered cheese burgers and they were pretty tasty. My family and I loved Pixel Palace! The games are cheaper than anywhere else and they have a great selection of retro games. It brought back memories being able to play games that I used to play as a child. All that said, this is definitely more geared to millennials and gen X. Kids aren't allowed after 8 or 9pm as this is a bar. (My favorite part! No fighting kids over skee ball!) Food and drinks were great! We went there during the soft opening this past Thursday and it was just amazing. They had everything fully stocked and I felt like this wasn't at last moment. We were looking for this to open up so excitedly for such a long time. They have ton of games and they were all mostly free for now during the soft opening. They have a very decent beer menu, more limited food and cocktail menu and I think they do have Mead as well as non-alcoholic options. We got the pretzels that were really delicious with the beer cheese and the hot mustard. The service was really great and everybody was friendly. It was such a supportive crowd. I brought the kiddos and my daughter got a stuffed animal from the claw machine. People were cheering her on and even helping her out. It was just a really, really great time.
