There's a small parking garage underneath the library. (The garage closes when the library closes... so no dawdling!) The front desk staff was friendly and helped me get my new library card set-up. She helped to reset my account, gave me a bookmark which also noted the library hours, walked me through the different resources available, and was willing to answer any questions. You can checkout up to 75 items! The library space was new and modern. There was a community event being hosted in the meeting room when I visited. There are so many services and events that the public library offers beyond books - I dare you to check it out. As everyone's favorite aardvark once said, "Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card!"

I love the integration of the Spanish language in all the titles of the different areas, and that there is a dedicated space to eat and hang out where you can talk louder etc. The building gets a lot of natural light and there is plenty of parking. You can't go wrong visiting this library. Def proud to be a PG county library card holder!

We arrived about 20 minutes before opening, which I would highly recommend, because the security line got long fast. We were able to go inside before many got in and had beautiful views without crowding. The inside is absolutely beautiful. Several displays explain the paintings and architecture which was really interesting to read about. We were also able to see the original rough draft of the Declaration of Independence. It will only be on display for three months so this was really neat we were here for that. Definitely take your time and look around instead of just walking through. There is so much detail everywhere you look.

I reserved free timed entry tickets on their website and there was a decent line waiting to get in. Security is heavy here. Very thorough like an airport. The architecture is breathtaking. The staff is also very helpful. My daughter and I looked around a bit and checked out some of the exhibits. We got a timed entry sticker for the main reading room, however we were informed we couldn't go in the room with our backpacks. We could have opted for the unsecured bag check or go back down to security to rent a locker. So we skipped it. My daughter was excited to check out The Source which is their new young readers room. There were advertisements and directional stickers for it everywhere. When we got there, it was closed and the security guard said it didn't open until 1pm. Then they opened it at 11am and said we could come in. My daughter was a little disappointed because while marketed for 8-15 year olds, it appeared to be for much younger visitors. I went through the process of getting myself a LOC reader identification card so I could book a reading room and work there for a couple hours. I filled out the online form, went to get my picture taken, got my card, had the information desk tell me where to go, only for security to tell me I couldn't get a reading room while I had a backpack either. I guess I'm just supposed to carry my laptop out in the open? Anyway, my daughter and I decided to bail and head to Starbucks so I could get some work done. It wasn't worth the hoops to jump through. Upon trying to exit, the same security guard asked to search my backpack prior to leaving. I'm not sure if they do that to everyone, but it all seemed a little extreme to me for a library. Overall, don't skip this place for the exhibits and experience, but don't plan on bringing any bags with you or working here.

From the outside, the building looks a bit dated... but that's the vibe of the entire community, haha. The inside is nice! It has everything you'd want -- meeting rooms, silence that you could hear a pen drop, COVID-19 take-home test kits, chairs for reading, and of course books on books on books! I haven't checked one out yet (I have my own backlog as is), but they have quite the selection! It's convenient only being 5 minutes from my house. I can't really compare it to others, but it has everything I need!

Since I had time to spare, I thought I would update my library account and look for a book. Dude at the front desk was nice. He updating my account easily so that was quick and cool. I walked around, kicking myself that I didn't bring my phone charger and lo! There was free charging station! Clutch!!!! Two Stars! Next, I thought I would look for the book I needed. An Eric Foner book. Not the most popular read but, lo and behold 'twas on the shelf!!!! Kill!! Three stars. So I continued to kill time reading about Historic Greenbelt, there was a display for that. I went to one of the self-checkout machines, I saw two, checked my book out and went to find the restroom. Four Stars with the self-checkout. On my way to the restroom I saw this box for donating eye glasses. I loved that for obvious reasons so add another star to my review and that's 5 but, with the men's restroom out of order on election day 2018, I deducted a star. So, I had a good time at the Greenbelt Library. I got more done than I needed and more than I expected. Good stuff, good stuff.
