Stopped in for a quick lunch here with some friends and happened to find a new favorite local(ish) spot! Super cute decor and establishment through and through, feels homey and comfortable from the moment you step inside. Also love the local artwork for sale on display! And the food was absolutely delicious! Not hard to do a ham and cheese sandwich, but one of the best I've ever had, the veggies tasted exceptionally fresh and flavorful and everything at our table was cooked to perfection and arrived in a timely manner. Honestly one of the fastest services I've had at a cafe or diner and the quality of food was immaculate. Not much else to say about Main Street Cafe aside from job well done! Lovely local restaurant in the cute town of Altamont. This visit we had lunch and everything was delicious. You could tell from the taste that everything is homemade especially the fries and Mac salad. The fries are hand cut everyday and taste soooo much better than frozen fries just dumped in a fryer. The Mac salad tasted like my mom was in the kitchen making it. I would definitely come back here again. read more

New cafe (opened in last few months) so I had to try it. Breakfast is served until 11:30 and then they have lunch until 3 pm. I believe they have take out dinners but don't post things on a regular on Facebook. The place is roomy and with plenty of tables. We arrived for lunch and as soon as we sat a waitess promptly took our drink orders. It was quite busy but efficient. Near the end of our meal a popular bunch of people came in along with a news cast. I was excited for the cafe. I'm also glad I got there before everyone else knows about this place. lol ..... I guess they were there (channel 1 spectrum) to do news about Guilderland's upcoming restaurant week. Now back to the food, after that little commercial break; I ordered the turkey sandwich with goat cheese and apples; it was yummy. The shoestring fries it came with were also delish. Breakfast is needed the next time I go back and forgot to ask if they have any daily specials. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it because I'm a foodie and love brunch food. Walking in was like walking home. It's such a cute place with just enough tables to stay busy but not be overwhelmed by so many conversations. I ordered Bavarian French toast (I knowwww) with scrambled eggs and bacon. My fiancé ordered the Benny Flight which is 3 eggs Benedict with your choice. He went with the Irish option. He also got an order of home fries with onions and peppers. Everything was phenomenal. Ohhhh and we ordered a Rueben to go because I wanted something for later and that was amazing even though because it wasn't fresh it was a little soggy. That was my fault not the restaurant. The service was fantastic and we never wanted for a thing. I can't wait to go back and try more breakfast/brunch foods. read more

We discovered this restaurant pretty much by accident when we were purchasing flowers at an Agway around the corner. This cafe has great breakfast offerings - which they serve open to close on weekends but only until about noon mid week. Emily our waitress was super friendly and the food was terrific. Belgian waffle was cooked to perfection. The avocado toast was very tasty. The hamburger was wonderful as were the French fries and home fries. Service was prompt and attentive. We had a few days off this week and decided to try Main St Cafe and Bakery on Main St in Altamont. I'd read a great review on 518 Foodies written by Jackie. The husband and I went Tuesday for breakfast. I love Eggs Benedict and always try it wherever I go. It was delicious! English muffin toasted just right, eggs poached perfectly, hollandaise sauce spot on with flavor and the ratio of sauce was on point, one of the best Eggs Benedict I've had anywhere. The husband said his eggs, bacon and rye toast were all very good and we both LOVED the home fries. They were seasoned and crispy. You know sometimes you get home fries and some are just soft potato bites and you search out the crispy ones, well each bite was crispy tastiness! We liked it so much we went back Wednesday but got there too late for breakfast (lunch starts at 11:30). At first we were disappointed but it gave us a chance to try lunch. We each got a wrap; turkey, bacon, avocado, ranch and the avocado BLT and we shared. Both were really fat and tasty and the fries were skinny, which I love, and super yummy. The place doesn't have a huge sign out front so not easy to find, but it's at 198 Main St. Altamont. I met the owner Jennifer who was very nice and her daughter was our server both days. This is my absolute favorite Cafe in Altamont now!! The food raises the bar, it was fantastic! We were very delighted with our meals! They must have a chef on board, cause the dishes were made with PERFECTION! The homemade corn beef hash was perfectly made! The eggs were made picture perfect, the chicken and waffle was not only culinary calendar picture but backed it up in taste and texture. The Chef and crew don't just do their best, they put their heart and soul into EVERY DISH THAT LEAVES THE KITCHEN! This place is a hidden gem ! I am so glad to have found this place! Can't wait to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in Altamont or near by it's WORTH THE TRIP! read more

Based on 5-star reviews and an appealing menu, four of us decided to try this restaurant. At noon it was nearly full so we expected a bit of a wait. And wait we did! Our waitress brought menus, and half an hour later, our hot drinks in paper cups. About 12:30 she took our order, and the food arrived at 2:00. The soup and the fresh cut french fries were terrific; everything else, not so much. Burgers were ordered medium but arrived overcooked. My Reuben sandwich featured corned beef in tough dry shreds that were hard to chew. We paid the check and left at 3:00. Everybody can have a bad day, so maybe this restaurant deserves its five star reviews. But with stunningly slow service and food that was not worth the wait, it certainly was not our experience. read more

We ate brunch here and even though we live in town and had heard the excitement of a new restaurant? We are surprised at how amazing the food was! Just perfect to our expectations! Good wholesome food with a huge bunch of flavor if you ask me. My BLT sandwich was on fresh bread, veggies were crisp and everything was presented lovely. I had ordered macaroni salad with it and it came in a small soup bowl. Half way through lunch a staff member told me so was sorry the chef forgot the tuna in my salad and gave me another bowl. So sweet, and both salads were so fresh. My partner had biscuits and gravy which was a generous helping and delicious as well. The staff were very helpful, being our first time there. They were attentive but not pushy. The restaurant was fresh and bright. Not large, it filled up quickly but didn't feel crowed. Kid friendly playing and food. Drool worthy pastry and baked items were in a case up front. Since our dine in brunch we have ordered breakfast here online maybe 4 or so times. Every time has been so delicious. We went there because we were visiting from out of state, staying at an AirBNB and needed breakfast. One review that I saw stated that it was their best breakfast ever. Now, I enjoy breakfast and have had some poor ones at various restaurants, but couldn't look back and identify a 'best breakfast ever.' Now I can! I had 2 over easy eggs, corned beef hash, potatoes and toast. My wife and I split a Very Berry Belgian waffle. The eggs and toast were just eggs and toast. The potatoes were very well seasoned, freshly cut, and fried to perfection. The corned beef hash was fresh and the best I've had. That alone was a reason to return. The half waffle with fresh berries and syrup was outstanding. The batter had a great flavor. Two important exceptions were that due to physical building space, plastic ware is used and the prices are higher than a typical breakfast. For our circumstance, neither of these were a negative. We are on vacation and wanted an experience more than a cheap meal. The atmosphere is small town Cheers like. Very friendly and casual. I highly recommend Main Street Cafe. You won't regret it!
