It appears that there are only 2 people running this place. Upon on entering, the place was half full which is a good sign...but all the empty tables except 1 were dirty. This is a seat yourself place, which is no problem. They saw me enter and sit down. So after 10 minutes, the lady finally came over with a menu and took my drink order. When she returned, I gave her my food order because I could tell she was very inexperienced. I ordered the catfish basket. Catfish, coleslaw, fresh cut fries and a hush puppy. Two large catfish filets ... cooked perfectly and delicious! The coleslaw was very good but the large cut pieces of cabbage made it difficult to get on a fork to eat. Fresh cut fries were good and what I would expect. The hush puppy was ok and maybe a couple of smaller ones instead of one large one would be better. The restaurant feels and looks super clean....other than all the dirty tables. I'd probably return when I'm back in the area. read more

Motel Staff told us that we would like it, and they were so right. Easy access, plenty of parking, and very clean. We were worried at first as it was almost empty, but filled up quickly. Our waitress was great, friendly & constantly checked on us. The menu is simple (recent change?) Not sure as an older couple was there when we came in, but left without eating (not happy with menu). The menu had Seafood, Flatbread, and Chili. We went with Shrimp Platter & Catfish Po'boy. The platter came with fries, coleslaw, and a hushpuppy. Everything was seriously good, and had a unique flavor that separated it from your average cafe. The Shrimp were huge, and flavored just right, the hushpup had a little kick, and the slaw was as real as it gets. The Catfish Po was huge, and it really was amazing. I was impressed with the bread as it was perfect. I have had them in the French Quarter and this one rivaled any that I had. So nice to stumble upon a jewel when traveling. Main Street Cafe qualifies and will delight your palate. Nothing too fancy-pantsy, just good well prepared American Style dishes. By far the best food in Monahans. If you are looking for authentic homemade food this is the place for you. Everything that is on the menu tastes great but my personal favorite is the Cod plate. Nice and crunchy on the outside but good and flaky on the inside, coleslaw peppery and creamy, fries are perfectly made. Highly recommend! read more

Out here in West Texas finding fresh home cooked food is rare and THE MAIN STREET CAFE IS THE PLACE. I have met folks from all over who once they've been - they're back. Nothing compares unless your in Midland to the East or near Big Bend. Consistent - clean - only open 11:30-2:00 and 5:30-8:00. M-T. Fri only lunch. Sat and Sun they are open. Straight up ridiculously good!!!! Stopped in on a whim and it was a great decision!!! It's like a mini cafeteria pick your entree and two sides and a roll for a set price...add a side or desert for extra. It's clean, the people are friendly and the food was fantastic. I had beef tips and rice and hubby had catfish. We had stewed green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas as sides. They were like home cooking!! (There is a great choice of entrees and sides) The tea was great nice clear ice and clean glassware. We saved the best of last..PEACH COBBLER..so light and delicious!!! Give them a try!! Oh my gosh, this place was amazing. Stopped here on a cross country road trip. Style was from scratch southern comfort food. I had the country fried steak and gravy with macncheese and mashed potatoes and i finished it all not a scrap left! My husband had the country fried chicken with black eyed peas and mashed potatoes again all was devoured!
