I went in to get a massage during their $50 Friday in December deals, as it's the most stressful month of the year at my job. I got there right on time and had a gent greet me and take me back to the room, he asked what I was in for, and then directed me to the table. Honestly I wasn't really a fan. This seemed more like it was about breathing and acupressure than it was an actual massage. It also wasn't a full hour, more like 45 minutes in total. I was getting dressed about 5 minutes to the hour. He was also hitting a point in my neck that had me going home with an actual migraine. I didn't know that could happen, even being covered in peppermint essential oil. Very nice man, but I don't think I'd go back again. read more

I booked my appointment 4 days before I needed it. My masseuse got a back injury so they called me and offered to reschedule for later that same day. I had Bridgette, she was super nice and made me feel comfortable. She talked to me during the massage and put me at ease. She was perfect and made sure every little thing was ok. 100% recommend Geoff Beck! I had a shoulder injury around 5 years ago and had pain, compromised mobility and reduced strength. It was also really affecting my neck and the positions that I could sleep in were limited. I had seen doctors and a chiropractor with no resolution - the best they could offer was periodic injections to reduce the pain. I thought I would just have to live with the 'damage' forever. Geoff has an amazing philosophy and he is incredibly knowledgeable and intuitive. He honed in on the source of the problem and fully addressed it. It took a few sessions, but my shoulder is 100% functional now - fully mobile and no more pain. I can put my arm in any position and my neck problems have disappeared. I really did not think this was possible - I'm so grateful to Geoff! I wrote a pretty harsh review a week ago about essnetially the customer service I received from this place. The next day the owner did call to apologize and offer to do the services on another day so I agreed to try them out. I was definitely nervous because 1. my review and 2. the services were greatly discounted to make up for the mishap. I wasn't sure if we were just going to get mediocre to poor massages or if they would actually take it seriously.. Well, we would be back. The massages were absolutely wonderful. I visited Main Street Massage Therapy for the first time, and it was truly wonderful. The massage studio is on the second floor of a building on Main Street. They provide EXCELLENT directions with photos on their website. I also really appreciate that I was able to book easily online without calling. I would only suggest providing information on the website if you have a disability on how to get to the second floor. The shop was very cute. It didn't have some of the "glam" of other spas that I have been too, however I felt that it was a little refreshing. It felt like a local business and a had a great "mom and pop" vibe (thanks Jenny K. for that appropriate description of it). It was very clean. I had a massage with Nisha. She was amazing! I felt that she really cared about making it a great experience and improving my pain. One of the things that I really LOVED was the specific massage components/techniques. She incorporated more stretches than previous massage therapists. I have been to PT for my neck pain previously, and the PT did specific exercises/massages for my neck pain at the end of the session that I loved. I never had massage therapists do those same exercises. Nisha did. I felt that the price was reasonable for AA, especially with the Yelp Coupon. It was lower than peer establishments. read more

My boyfriend and I came in for a couples massage a few months ago. My boyfriend loved his massage but I was not so pleased with my massage. The man who gave me my massage was not so understanding that I am sensitive in certain areas of my body. He was annoyed that I made his job a little more difficult.. sorry dude. Near the end of the workout I noticed that he started using one hand to give me my massage so I opened my eyes and saw him texting while massaging me with one hand.. are you kidding me?! It's a little hard to find but there is a small door in between the restaurants that leads to the second floor studios. The female therapist was new but clearly has excellent experience doing massage. She focused on areas that I asked her to. Checked in on pressure and made sure I got what I needed. What a truly relaxing and wonderful experience!! I decided to treat myself on my birthday, so I got one of their September specials- $65 for an hour body massage plus a pedi scrub. The massage place is located on the second floor of the Prickly Pear Restaurant building, so it was a tad small, but hey, when you are in the moment being rubbed by the amazing masseuse Nisha, size doesn't matter. Nisha was great, just the right amount of talkative, was aware of my needs and addressed them, and overall an amazing massage (I mean, this is my first table massage, but I think it can't get much better than this. They were timely with our appointments. The massage did help target some trouble areas I was having. Con: For me personally, it was not exactly the "spa" type experience someone might be looking for when getting services such as these. Someone else described it as having a "mom and pop" vibe in the reviews, and they are correct. It's an older type of area in an upstairs part of a building, but this might be what some people enjoy. I can't wait for massages to be safe again to come back to this place. Special mention to Geoff, Nisha, and Mary for taking care of me over the past 5 years I've been coming here. 1) 90 Minute Massage: I get these once every 6-8 months since my body has the tendency to develop pretty bad back knots, calf tightness, and pain in the plantar fascia due to my anatomically flat feet. My knots are always eased from the source and kept away for a good amount of time. I would usually go for the Massage Monday 60-minute special, but if you need a lot of work done, 90 minutes are ideal so that you don't need to keep coming back or getting more chiropractor appointments in. Nisha is my go-to since she uses tools to reach deeper into the muscles and stretch them to ease all the deep tension. 2) Sports massage: As a former dancer at Michigan, my achilles, arches, calves, and hips are always tight because well, we push our joints to a range of motion they shouldn't be doing. Geoff works wonders on my feet! 3) Couple's Massage: My boyfriend and I went for our birthday couple's massage and it was fantastic. You get two flutes of champagne, some delicious truffles, and a 60-minute individualized massage. 4) Raindrop therapy: I decided to try this when I was facing a lot of stress and anxiety issues. It uses essential oils to simulate the feeling of raindrops and then a massage. This is a more relaxing massage compared to one where you can expect to get your knots and deep tissues fixed. 5) Reflexology: Geoff is also fantastic at finding energy blockages in the body through the feet and using it as a holistic healing method. Coming from a promiscuous massage client, who bounces between several massage businesses in Washtenaw county, I've realized only after years of living here that this is the BEST deal in the area. This place doesn't even need the reviews, it's that awesome of a staple in the Ann Arbor community. I seriously think that Main Street Massage is a higher power's gift to graduate students because, yes for real, $40 Mondays! I've seen Kirt and Nisha here and they're both AMAZING. Kirt has the grippiest hands, the perfect size and strength at taking on the mountain ridges for knots that line my back. And Nisha, she's given me the most beautiful massages I've ever received. Seriously, the smell of the room from the oils, the feel of my neck after she stretches it ways I never thought possible, simply awesome. I've never had any other treatments offered here--facials, other beauty packages. I'm actually curious as to where they would perform these, given the small sizes of the massage rooms. I'm not a big massage studio bouncer. I tend to find one or two favorites and stick to them. However, my fatal massage flaw is that I tend to ignore pain and restrictions in muscles and range of motion (and yes, I try to stretch to help!) until it gets almost unbearable. For this reason, I now have about 3-4 regular massage places that I trust and end up rotating between. Though Balance Massage Therapy is currently my economical go-to choice, Main Street has become a more regular place to go to, particularly if I know I'll be needing some muscle-help on a day when I don't have a car (since it's easily in walking or busing distance). I've had several therapists, and found them very professional and thorough. They're good at tuning in to areas when I know that I tend to carry tension and more long term pain. This doesn't mean they are afraid of those areas, though. I like my massages with pretty firm pressure, and so I appreciate how communicative my therapists here have been in terms of getting the right levels of pressure -- sometimes I'd rather than more intense pressure and be able to just breath through it if that means really getting a knot to release. I really really love the online scheduling. It may seem like a little thing, but because my schedule get so wacky sometimes, I find myself with only very specific times I could squeeze something in. Being able to look at their openings via their online booking and then compare it to my iCal is really a bonus. Also, the pricing here is very reasonable, and they occasionally have specials or coupons that you can find in some of the local coupon/saver mailers. read more

She was amazing-- very professional &knowledgeable, yet down-to-earth. and was really tuned in to the issues I was having, offering me suggestions on what to do to lessen these problems in the future. Since it was my first massage I was a little apprehensive - I didn't know the protocol. Turns out I had nothing to worry about! The whole process couldn't have been simpler or easier, and Erin left me feeling so much more relaxed and ten times taller. What a great place for a massage! I've been here a number of times, both for 1hr massages at regular pricing or monthly discount specials, both my fiancé and I enjoy coming here for our massages. I can say for those of you holding off on a massage, "don't" because its one of the best relaxing things you can do for yourself. The staff here are great and you will always leave feeling great and refreshed, almost like a new 'man/woman'. Remember the average person takes cake of their car more than their own health! I regularly visit massage therapists (3 times per week on average) And i am NEVER Required to leave a credit card number to hold my appointment (i do not have a credit or debit card, that is not real money its just 1's and 0's on a computer somewhere.) This place requires you to leave a credit card to hold your appointment. I cannot review the massage therapy sadly because of their stupid requirement. The lady offered for me to drive 20 miles to put down a CASH deposit, but i am not willing to bend over backwards to get a massage. There are PLENTY of qualified and GREAT massage therapists in the area. No need to force my money down someone who doesn't want its throat. I highly recommend people not bother with this place. Let their crappy business practices drive them out of business. read more

I've been seeing Bridgette semi-regularly for about a year and I'm always so impressed by her work. I've got typical desk worker issues with my neck, chest, and shoulders -- Bridgette knows exactly what muscles need the most work to get me feeling and moving better. She's also so friendly! Other reviews say the ambiance as less than ideal. I see where they are coming from -- it's not a fancy spa. But I find it perfectly comfortable, probably even more so for being less pretentious. I made an appointment at Main Street Massage once when I was staying in Ann Arbor over a break after midterms and desperately needed a massage. This place had really positive reviews, so I decided to check it out. Overall, my experience was not that great. I was expecting an experience similar to the other spas I have been to-- that is, a relaxing one. When I got there, I sat on a cramped bench surrounded by other customers' shoes (they ask you to remove them if there's bad weather, but it was sunny on this day). When Geoff was ready for me, I went into a small room that felt kind of like a doctor's office. The lights were bright, which was off-putting. The music that was playing also wasn't very soothing. As for the massage itself-- it wasn't what I was looking for. Maybe I didn't properly communicate what I wanted, but nevertheless, it felt more like an examination than a relaxing massage. I appreciated that he was trying to relieve my knotted muscles, but his method of getting rid of tension involved a lot of forceful pushing on my body, pulling and bending of my legs...basically, a lot of PAINFUL motions. I'm all for a massage with more pressure, but this wasn't a massage, it was just pushing on my back and bending my limbs. It felt more like physical therapy than anything else, so if you're looking for a massage that is more medical then this should be fine for you. Just wasn't what I was looking for in terms of relaxation! The fact that his breath smelled bad didn't help at all. Overall, I'm glad that this place isn't as expensive as other spas, because my massage wasn't what I was hoping for. Again, if you want more of a physical therapy-type massage, this is probably a good place for you...but if you want relaxing, not strenuous, I'd look elsewhere! read more

I was having some tension headaches and found this place from the great reviews on Yelp. The online booking tool is handy and the prices are unbeatable. The location is convenient but I did have a bit of trouble finding the place. The studio is directly above the Prickly Pear and there is a stairwell to the right of the restaurant. I had a massage with Erin and it was excellent. She asked questions and tailored the massage to my situation. Not everyone can do skilled deep tissue massage and this was very good. I love this charming little place! Leigh is absolutely amazing. She's the only masseuse that I've been to that can really work out the knots in my neck and shoulders. She is very friendly and made me feel instantly at ease. She's super knowledgeable and even suggested some helpful stretches I can do at my home or office.
