This shop doesn't have that corporate sanitation feel. everything is in its proper place but with a more eclectic atmosphere. It doesn't seem to fit in with the surroundings and what your used too when you think of a music store in or near taunton, by that i mean, its almost too good for the area. All and all, the 15 minutes I spent inside was very enjoyable. and i recommend this place based on that criteria.

I walked in to buy some strings while their open mic was going on a year ago and tried it myself... I've been coming every week since. It's allowed me to live out my rock star fantasy in front of the most supportive and loving crowd ever. I've met so many friends here, it's more than just an open mic and a music store, it's a community and a family. I've played drums, bass, and guitar here with so many different local musicians in so many genres, it has helped me to grow and develop my skills for each instrument. It has, without exaggeration, changed my life. If open mics aren't your thing and you just want a place to buy an instrument, it's great for that too. Unlike bigger chains like Guitar Center where they just want your money and kick you out, you can have a long conversation with the people working here to make sure you're purchasing the instrument right for you. If you want lessons or you have a kid you'd like to get into music, this is the place for that, too. Often you'll see the Rick's Music World students play at the open mics and I used to think "A student? Eh, this won't be too good" and they always blow me away. Whether you're looking for a music community to change your life or you just want to buy a guitar, Rick's is the place to go.

I had the pleasure of a thorough and empathetic call with either the owner or somebody I'd trust to run the place. ~~~ T took time out of his day to discuss my need as a customer for a very niche need, and I'm sure he takes care of people like me all day with the same aplomb and kindness. I asked about harp pins, and after talking enough, he knew I meant friction pegs but for harps. (No, I didn't know this would also explain it!) While I'm not sure of how practical it is to get teensy harp pins (3 mm size?) or use friction pegs (too large?), T invited me to visit so we could look together. ~~~ He was willing to look through catalogs and online searches with me to find the piece I'd need. How can you beat this kind of interest? The people here are like when you have a home project and need to know *how* to do it and *what* tools you need. Do you want a big name store where nobody knows anything and you're on your own? Of course you don't. You want a place where the employees live and breathe their work. Look at other reviews--Union Music proves it. ~~~ I'm definitely stopping in to see T, even if it's a month or two from now. Thank you for treating me so kindly, T, and Union Music.
