Came in for an exam, since it had been a while since my last eye exam. I first saw Michael, the optician and the pre-testing part of the exam was fast and painless. I was then seen by Dr. Zelaya and it was probably the best eye exam I had in a while. She was very thorough and detailed in every part of the exam. Great, really likeable doc. Has evening hours Thursdays and is open Saturdays, great for the 9-5 crowd. Parking is free for two hours in the TJ's structure or the public Culver lots. This place is awesome. I have been on the hunt for new frames for 4 months and visited well-rated shops from Santa Monica to Silverlake with no luck. Other places were either too expensive or not quite modern enough or too modern or didn't take my insurance. I'm so glad I finally found these guys. I knew I found the right shop for me when a very nice man on his way out for the night introduced himself, said who would be helping me and said that almost every pair can be ordered a size up or down and in a variety of colors. WHAT?! I can't tell you how many times I asked other shops if glasses came in other colors to be told a flat-out no. Plus, they will order up to 3 pairs for you to decide between at no cost and no obligation to you, and they take my VSP insurance. Michael who helped me and the Dr. herself were so kind, patient and helpful. I ordered 3 pairs to decide between and can't wait to get my new glasses! read more

Stay away from this business. If I could leave zero stars I would. Wish I never went to them. They told me they accepted my insurance so I brought a pair of very expensive sunglasses to be made into eye glass. As they were popping out my lens they broke my frames. They did not warn me this could happen w/ these glasses. They then had the nerve to tell me they could order me another pair but I'd have to buy them. I spoke to the optometrist who assured me ( I even asked for it in writing but she said I wouldn't need it, I had her word) they would match whatever my insurance didn't pay. After they told me they took my insurance they realized they don't take it and they informed me and I would only get reimbursed $40 from my insurance company for the glasses they broke in the first place. When I asked if they would still match the difference of course the reneged on the promise. I can not urge you enough to stay away from this business. Look at all the bad reviews. read more

Dr.Heidi Fahringer is one of thee best, I must say. As soon as I walked in i felt like there was a good thing coming. It was too busy and the people were very nice. When it came to getting my prescription of glasses, they had just what I needed and at the price I could afford. I do recommend people to come here Dr. Heidi Fahringer is one of thee best. Shes was very professional and while I was there I noticed she had all the new upgraded equipment which is a plus. I came in to see if they might have a screw to repair my sunglasses. The man took them into the back and came back with the glasses good as new! While we were waiting my husband asked if he could buy a new case from them. The woman gave him a hard leather case for free! They also didn't let us pay for the glasses repair! I'd been with Dr. Zelaya for a few years since moving to California but have recently switched Optometrists. While Dr. Zelaya seemed great and I have no real problems with her, I'm not too impressed with their office staff at Main Street Optometry. Every time I go for my eye exam, the office staff seems annoyed to have to do any work. I try to make it a point to be friendly to everyone I interact with, excusing their behavior as them simply having a bad day. But it was consistent the last few times I visited. Not to mention, some messages of mine seem to have disappeared from their answering machine and email inbox- that or they literally just never responded to me. Quite disappointing, to be honest; I expect the opposite when visiting a doctor's office. Since my last visit, I have switched to Dr. Donna Cooper in Santa Monica and talk about opposite end of the spectrum - WOW! The contrast in level of care is more than obvious. Even when I called Main Street to have my records faxed to my new eye doctor, the woman I spoke with gave me minimal help and didn't have the best attitude. Now that I have a new eye doctor, it's so refreshing to call the doctor's office and not just have all of my needs met, but done with a pleasant disposition by doctor and staff. I've read that there have been some changes in staff since my last eye exam at Main Street Optometry and I can only hope they got rid of the people I last encountered while there. If I were looking for an Optometrist, I'd honestly check out a different Optometry office than this one. The parking at Main Street Optometry is a hassle and my experiences with them have not made the trip there worth the trouble. I'd rather have the health of my eyes in the hands of a doctor (and her staff) that actually puts forth the effort to make sure I'm taken care of AND pleased. read more

Amy and Matt are simply fantastic! Stopped by to get the lens in my mom's reading glasses refitted. Amy took them in the back and returned a few minutes later. She had fixed the lens, cleaned the glasses, adjusted the nose bridge and smoothed out a slight warp in the frame. All this for free! Amazing folks! Dr. Heidi is an excellent doctor. She is incredibly helpful, kind, and she really takes her time with you. I have never felt rushed, nor have I waited an unreasonable amount of time for an appointment. If I ever have to wait a few minutes, I appreciate it because I know that she is giving someone else the same thorough attention she always gives me. The vision problem I have has frustrated other doctors in the past, but Dr. Heidi has been nothing but understanding and helpful about it - always taking her time, and sometimes even doing follow up evaluations to make sure that I'm getting the right prescription. I went to Dr. Fahringer to get some driving glasses several years I told her that I needed to see long distances better and to be able to read road signs from far away. If I am in a car, everyone can read the freeway exit signs twice as fast as me. Her office was very nice and she was an exceptionally warm and caring doctor. However, the lenses she gave me did not change my distance vision at all. I went back to her and she said that they will do one correction for free. However, the second lenses did not correct my distance vision either. Looking at road signs, with or without glasses was exactly the same. I couldn't afford to start over. And because the glasses came with clip on sunglasses I used them as sunglasses while driving. I have insurance now and want to get some driving glasses, but will not go back to her, no matter how nice she was. read more

Dr. Fahringer gets an A+ and the men who work the front desk seem great. (Both men of color, I might add.) The white woman w glasses and long-ish highlighted hair who mans the front desk is super rude. I went in for an eyeglass repair after sitting on my glasses by mistake -- she shamed me for almost breaking them (like I wanted to do that?!?!) then attempted to bend them back into shape without putting them in the machine. I told her, if I'd wanted that done I'd have fixed them myself at home and to please be more careful. She was super snotty. Did the work, but never once had a kind word or gesture toward me, or any other clients or her colleagues. She literally emanates an angry and rude feeling every time I'm in there. You can do better, Main St. Optometry. Get rid of her. read more

I first found Dr. Heidi about 4 years ago and was happy to have an optomotrist who was both personable and professional. My visits, usually on her busy Saturdays, have been timely with only a couple of short waits beyond the appointment time. I truly feel that I am being helped by someone who cares about making sure I am served to best meet my wishes -- no hard sell of things I don't want. I have been very happy with the service ever since my first visit. More recently I brought my daughter, age 12. Dr. Heidi noticed that the glasses my daughter was wearing were not sitting right and had them adjusted (for free) so that my daughter could wear them more comfortably. Later, when my daughter accidentally stepped on her new pair of glasses, Dr. Heidi took care of us on essentially no notice and got my duaghter's glasses back into good shape (again for no charge). My daughter enjoys the time she visits with the Dr. Heidi, who truly talks to her and listens to her. read more

I recently went to Dr. Fahringer for the first time. I brought up the problems I have with my right eye, which I have always assumed were caused by the truckload of floaters in there. My vision in that eye has been funky for a long time, and I have been bringing it up at every eye exam I have for years and years and years...no other doctor has ever found a specific reason. Dr. Fahringer suggested that maybe the Cadillac-sized cataract in my right eye had something to do with it, explained how cataract surgery works, and referred me to a surgeon. I don't know why nobody else ever found it (it has definitely been there for at least five years, probably longer) but I am very happy that I found a doctor who could. I would certainly give he a hearty, enthusiastic recommendation to anyone who like using their eyes for seeing and looking at things and stuff like that. read more

Terrible! Although the doctor is pretty comprehensive in her eye inspections I've had some really bad experiences. Once when I went there to get some trail lenses the doctor herself put the lenses in my eyes and injured me in the process. I had blurred vision for one whole day. I tried calling the doctor but the doctor refused to come on the phone and kept sending me messages through her assistant saying it was just the new lenses. The next day I got up with a swollen and watering eye. I tried calling her again to ask her if I could come and see her and she won't give me an appointment before 2 pm that day. You injure my eye, don't come on the phone to talk to me about it and then refuse to see until very late the next day. To make it worse I get a call later that the appointment at 2 pm was no longer available and I will get an even later appointment! Jeez! I just went to the nearest Kaiser emergency care and got my eye fixed. While I was at Kaiser I finally get a call from the doctor inquiring about my eye. I told me her I am at Kaiser emergency and all she said was, "Well I hope you feel better soon". Secondly, I had ordered a different set of trial lenses when I went to see the doctor the day she injured my eye. This was like 2-3 months ago and I still haven't heard back from her. Finally I called myself today and the assistant told me that they tried calling me 3 times and left me voice messages. I DIDN'T get a single message till date. Is it even possible for 3 message to just disappear in thin air?! To top it all the assistant acted as if it was all my fault. All in all, a terrible experience and I would NOT go here if I were you! read more

I have been coming here for my annual eye exam for years and I moved to a different neighborhood but still made a point to go here because I used to like them. However, my recent visit was appalling with the front desk ordering more expensive options for the same 3 months supply of daily contacts (ie ordering 3 individual boxes instead of one 90 days box) and I only discovered this when they called to say the individual boxes were back ordered and recommended buying one 90 days box which comes out cheaper. When I asked why this wasn't ordered this way at the beginning when it means more cost savings for the customer because I wouldn't have known had it not been back ordered, the receptionist couldn't answer and said will look into it and call me back but she never did. When I went to pick up the contacts, I had asked about trial contacts which was ordered for me and I received a call about it a few weeks before at which point I've told them I'll pick it up later when my order comes in as I was out of town. When I went to pick up my order they did not know what I was talking about by trials and I explained what the person before had said and they just said we don't have trials for you. I've had positive experience with all the doctors (had experienced all three over my time) here but the front desk has gotten very disorganized and is overcharging customers and hasn't even really shown remorse about it. Needless to say, I won't be going back here anymore. read more

Dr. Heidi is a wonderful, gentle woman. She talks very smoothly and softly, and she is gentle. She takes her time as if she has all day to tend to your eyeball needs. I have to say, coming to America, I was having a hard time finding some eye doctors, but I finally found one lady place I like! She is excellent. Receptionsins are doing a great job as well. Only some problem I had was with the parking. I found a place in the lot but I did have to pay. Overall very happy with this. read more
