UPDATE: Dr. Mahdavi called me and apologized. I went back and I had a contact fitting session even though the YouTube video I found did help. She ended up giving me different contacts that she thought would work better for my dry eyes. My initial experience was not great, but I honestly think it's a great office and everyone was very apologetic. I would go back and will continue going back. They were recommended to me by a coworker and I had a horrible experience all around. At first they had trouble verifying my insurance. I called my insurance company and they were able to give me my information right away and had to give it to them. I went in for an eye exam and contact exam. I was sent home with contacts that do not fit and I expressed that twice before leaving once to the doctor and once to the front desk worker but was ignored. Then they told me they were too busy to actually teach me to take them out or go over my options of what I needed and what was covered by my insurance. The worker literally told me to watch a YouTube video and come back tomorrow. I wouldn't recommend this place purely due to their customer service. read more

Been coming to Modo since I was young enough to still pass for ID checks when buying alcohol but old enough to afford some high end stunna shades. The staff here are so friendly and experienced in finding the right frames for your face shape. Shout out to the homie Armin - idk what my "above the neck" style would've been if I hadn't discovered Modo back in 2016. That's right, 7 years strong with my favorite optometry and continuing that relationship annually to use up my FSA end of year or request them to order specialty glasses I discovered during designer shopping when I travel. Absolutely adore that they refresh to the latest trends and only source the chicest frames. Oh! And when some folks (cough family members) are too busy to remember my bday every year, somehow Modo never misses to wish me a happy birthday right on time :) read more

9/9/22 TLDR: They really don't care about you, and wont help in a pinch. I was recently out of town for four days to attend a wedding in northern California, and realized upon arrival to the hotel that I'd forgotten to bring extra daily contacts or spare glasses. Concerned about the prospect of wearing the same one-day contacts for four days I called Modo (where I normally go), thinking that they've had patients in this situation before and could offer advice. I first left a voicemail 30 minutes before they opened at 10am, at around 12pm I still had not received a call back and called and left another voicemail. Two hours and still no call I texted them asking if they were even open because I've left two voicemails and received no callback. I finally received a callback from the desk at around 3pm, five hours, two voicemails and a text message later. I explained the situation to the staff member who looked up my information and advised that because my contact prescription had elapsed in June (3 months prior) they were unable to help, that the doctor under no circumstances would extend the prescription until I had another office visit. The best they could do is send my eyeglasses prescription so I could have another pair of glasses made, which the staff member said could "be a souvenir from my trip". No other alternatives given, no other help offered, just to go get another pair of glasses made for the three days left that I was out of town. The reasonable thing to do would have been to book a new contact appointment for the coming week and offer to extend my prescription (which hasn't changed in 10 years) for the three days so I could get just a few contacts for the weekend. Or at a minimum offer some advice on how to get through the next few days with just the one pair of dailies. But no, they really did nothing to help. Thanks for nothing Modo - you can cross me off your patient list. read more

Modo Optometry - Customer Service... - Optometrists Near Me - Marina Del Rey, California

TLDR: Lazy office staff or doctors (or both) won't review notes before you arrive which results in an enormous waste of your time and possibly loss of income if you have had to take time off work. When scheduling I specifically requested a basic eye exam that was covered by my insurance plan. I described some OTHER symptoms that I wanted to address which may change the appointment type, and they told me they'd speak with the doctor and let me know immediately if that changed the type of visit and cost money out of pocket. Obviously, that didn't happen or I wouldn't have spent 45 minutes waiting (because of course they were running late on top of it all) just to be told they would, in fact, need to do an office visit that would be $150 out of pocket. Their reasoning was that the doctor yesterday when I scheduled didn't want to speak for the doctor today. I wasn't even informed there was a different doctor? An incredible lazy waste of my time. read more

Avoid this place it is a nightmare They should leave the business for someone who knows the business. I went to get the new lenses, I already had a frame. They charged me $700 for it yet I never got any receipt, invoice or any paper for what exact I was getting charges were, even though I had insurance. After a week I went to pickup the glasses. I tried it on it made me dizzy with blurry vision. I told them the problem. They said that I can't bend my chain while I'm reading and I need to keep reading material it certain angles in order to read properly and ....stupid Shit like this. I told them I've been using glasses all my life I never heard this stuff. You should be comfortable with your glasses no matter what angle the reading material is. I asked to be refunded, I hope I'll be refunded I will report them to the credit bureau and insurance company anyway. I was getting glasses to facilitate my reading and long distant, if I'm getting dizzy, I rather not to have those glasses. I strongly not recommend this place. Save your money, save your time, and save stressful situations for something else. Stay away from this place. read more

I came in with a broken Ray Ban frame and Alexander was able to replace the broken earpiece with one from another frame I had. Only took him a couple of minutes, but he was generous with his time and very friendly. They have a nice selection of frames and when it comes time for something new, I'm definitely going back. read more

Went in for my annual exam. Very friendly and attentive staff. The doctor was knowledgeable and did a nice job explaining the test results. I was especially impressed with their frame selection. I'm a Mykita fan and Modo is one of the few shops around that stock this brand. Although they didn't have the exact style I wanted, they were kind enough to order a couple of frames that I liked so I could try them on. I was really impressed with how accommodating they were as I imagine that can be quite an expense for a purchase that is not guaranteed. Modo is located in an outdoor shopping center so plenty of parking. The staff and customers wore masks and hand sanitizer was available. Overall, great experience and I'll be back. read more

One of the best optometrist places I've been!! The staff was super helpful, the selection of glasses were beautiful and the doctors took extra care. Alexander and Merrilee were super helpful and courteous. Alexander was even able to fix a para glasses that were bent out of shape to the extreme. I was so grateful!! He's got a great selection of glasses and also has in-house optometry and contact lens fitting. This was a best Optometry experience I ever had. The lady doctor all right, Chris I cannot remember her name but she was so so caring so so loving she really really is into the eyeball. She pick me out the best person to help me select the Best glasses for me because I always never pick out nice blessed but most of the time the offices do not have a large variety. They had a large selection so the gentleman had me try on several and we both came to the conclusion that I'm going to get these new tom Ford funcky red glasses and when I tell you they look nice on me and I can wear them even when I leave and still be happy. They totally missed i have glaucoma. Went to Modo in Marina del Rey in 2023 for a comprehensive eye exam. I was encouraged to choose retinal imaging rather than the old fashioned eye dilation. I was diagnosed with dry eye with a possible eye infection but was given an overall clean bill of health. I was told my left eye was stronger than my right and that it even had gotten better between my follow up appointments in 2023 -- no one thought to wonder how and investigate further. Dr. Ueda recommended more tests following my 2024 exam because my eye pressure was somewhat high. She never caught that anything was wrong from the exam or the retinal imaging she performed in 2023 and 2024. . This was a major miss both last year and this which has left me with a blind spot in my left eye. I have since seen 3 opthamologists all of whom discovered the glaucoma on the first visit even though my eye pressure was low (below 20). To be fair i went to the opthamologists after i independently discovered that there was something funky with my left eye (i tested reading through each eye separately and the left was definitely distorted). In any event, Dr Ueda is great at refraction and i actually sent a friend to double check his prescription. it's a great shop if you want frames or don't have an issue and retinal imaging is properly interpreted, but for me it gave my glaucoma a year to get worse before someone else diagnosed it.This doesn't happen overnight. Staff is very helpful and kind.-- none of which matters if a very serious condition is overlooked. If you're over 50 i'd suggest going to an opthamologist rather than an optometrist for your eye exams. If your parents or relatives had glaucoma go to an opthamologist no matter what your age is. Also what helped me discover it was covering each eye and reading through the other. definitely unmasked an issue in my left eye. It's not as obvious when i look into the distance. May be the opposite for someone else. Yearly eye exams are recommended to catch glaucoma, etc early. Although i did my job and showed up, Modo did not do their job in diagnosing and treating my glaucoma. The year's delay has cost me some serious vision. I'm stunned by what i actually can't see that i could have seen a year ago read more

I cannot express how much I recommend using Modo for your eye's needs. They have the newest frames and hard to get styles while also having more budget friendly options. I have been coming to Modo for about 10 years now and have developed a friendship with the staff there. Armin is always patient with me as I try to find the right frames and let's me know when they have unique ones in that would fit my face (I have a large head/face). No matter where I live I end up coming back and make sure I get my frames and I exams there. Driving out from Pasadena, Glendale, DTLA.....I was tempted to fly down from San Francisco a few years back. Which would have been convenient since they are right next to LAX. I really wanted to like this place but both times I went in here I left unhappy. My doctor was amazing, super thorough and explained many things to me, took her time etc. When I got to the counter the people working seemed to be flustered and confused. They didn't know what I needed or was there for so I explained it to them. I told them that I only wear glasses at night for a few hours a night to read or watch a movie, I never drive in them or wear them outside of the house. I was already buying the most expensive frames and they kept trying to sell me on other things asking me repeatedly and pressuring me after I already explained what I did/didn't need. I left feeling like they were trying to make money off of me instead of feeling like I just left a doctors appointment. I come back a week later to get my glasses and the guy who gave them to me was super rude and told me because I didn't get an add on to my lenses that there was no warranty....even after I spent 500$ on just frames. Overall a bad experience and both times it felt like I was at some sort of mall counter where the people needed to make a commission. Won't be back. read more

Would highly recommend Modo Optometry for both eye exams as well as eyewear shopping. I initially visited for an eye exam when my insurance changed. The staff was great. They were friendly, helpful, and I was seen right away. They're not pushy here and you can tell that they truly care about their customers' happiness. Everyone working there was also extremely knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions. I was trying to decide between a few different contact lens brands and I was very happy with their recommendation. In addition to their expertise, I cannot say enough good things about their customer service. I had a complicated situation with returning my unused contact lenses after I got lasik and using the credit for sunglasses. Long story short: I couldn't make up my mind and they ended up ordering a specific pair for me that they didn't carry in store. They were so gracious during the entire process and I could really tell that they knew their stuff when it came to determining what was flattering for my face shape. I felt I could really trust the staff here during all of my interactions with them, no matter the complicity. They were also very quick to respond through email and text. Last fall cousin Pete called with an emergency. So I get my keister down to Miami to help him out. Turns out cousin Pete hasn't slept in days, has this shifty Panamanian bookie that needs to move his office to Hoboken and Pete asks me to drive the nervous bastard. This bookie is hitting the sauce the whole way, little do I know this guy has a an inner ear problem on top of his peg leg so I am stopping every 30 minutes so he can puke, and around Virginia my shades fall off on the shoulder of the road in a puddle of his scotch puke and he steps on em. Long story short I go for vacation in LA and need some high end shades, so I hear about this Modo place, supposed to be the best shop on the westside....and it is. I pick up a pair of Ditas, never had shades so great, and the folks there work magic. They treat you like somebody if you catch my drift. A+ experience. read more

I am not a patient here however, I definitely will be the next time I need new glasses! I called Modo Optometry because I wanted some advice on if I would be able to swap my glasses into a new frame (the exact same one) I kindly asked them if it was possible to do at home, which YouTube sure said it was, but I was still hesitant so that's why I was asking them for their professional advice. Alexander, the person I spoke to over the phone, quickly told me it was best I shouldn't be trying to do that at home and to just bring my glasses in and they would help me out. I went in a few days later and sure enough, Alexander was there and he changed my lenses for me right away. His friendly demeanor was so comforting and I felt so welcome.
